It's important: Please note that Yongnuo 35mm 1: 2 lenses, in versions for Nikon and Canon cameras, look very different from each other. Usually third-party lenses such as tokina, Tamron, Sigma, Carl Zeiss etc., have a very similar case design for versions for different systems. Version YONGNUO 35mm 1: 2 (YN35mm F2N) for Nikon cameras copies the design of the case Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1: 1.8G SWM AsphericalVersion Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (YN35mm F2) for Canon EOS cameras copies the design of the case Canon Lens EF 50mm 1: 1.8 II.

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (YN35mm F2)

In short

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 is a fast fixed lens from the Chinese manufacturer Yongnuo Digital. On full-frame cameras, 35mm focal length is transitional from wide-angle to standard. This focal length is very popular on both full and cropped cameras. On a full frame 35mm is a moderate wide-angle lens and on a 35mm crop it is a standard lens.

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 copied case design Canon Lens EF 50mm 1: 1.8 II and optical properties Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2.

In general, the lens is not bad.

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 can serve as a replacement old Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2 or not really cheap Canon Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 IS USM.

First of all, users of budget crop cameras benefited from the appearance of the Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 Canon APS-C, for which there was no available standard fast prime lens. Canon Lens EF-S 24mm 1: 2.8 STM and Canon Macro Lens EF-S 35mm 1: 2.8 IS STM are too expensive, and with aperture they don’t have much.

On Canon cameras with a sensor APS-C EGF Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1:2 will be 56mm, which is the normal (i.e. standard) focal length for stock prime lenses.

History

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (Model YN35mm F2) was introduced April 21 2015 years. In a sense, Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 is a copy Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2which was introduced back in October 1990 of the year. Most likely the 25-year period indicates that the output of Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 was associated with the expiration of the patent on Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2.

Almost a year and a half after the announcement of the Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (YN35mm F2 for Canon EOS cameras) the version for Nikon was released - Yongnuo 35mm 1: 2 (model YN35mm F2N) that was submitted 1 September 2016 years.

Let me remind you that the first lens from Yongnuo Digital was a fifty dollars for Canon EOS camerasYongnuo Lens EF 50mm 1: 1.8 (YN50mm F1.8) submitted on December 27, 2014.

Yongnuo Digital lenses copy the optical layouts of old lenses Canon EOS Usually, the version for Canon comes out first, and after a while - for Nikon (but not always). For other popular systems (Pentax, Sony, Sigma, Micro 4/3), Yongnuo does not produce lenses.

In November 2023, based on the optical design, Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1:2 (model YN35mm F2) was released version of the lens for Canon R mirrorless cameras.

Alternatives and price comparisons

Below I have prepared a list with all similar lenses (fixes in the range of 30-40 mm) with support for auto focus for Canon SLR cameras and indicated the difference in cost between them and the hero from this review:

  1. approximately at 2 times cheaper Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (170 USD vs 80 USD per second lenses)
  2. approximately at 6.5 times cheaper Canon Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 IS USM (550 USD vs 85 USD for new lenses)
  3. approximately at 14.1 times cheaper Canon LENS EF 35mm 1: 1.4L USM (1200 USD vs 85 USD for new lenses)
  4. approximately at 20 times cheaper Canon LENS EF 35mm 1: 1.4L II USM (1700 USD vs 85 USD for new lenses)
  5. approximately at 4.1 times cheaper Canon Macro Lens EF-S 35mm 1: 2.8 IS STM (350 USD vs 85 USD for new lenses)
  6. approximately at 2.11 times cheaper Canon Lens EF 40mm 1: 2.8 STM (180 USD vs 85 USD for new lenses)
  7. approximately at 7 times cheaper Tamron 35mm F / 1.8 SP DI USD VC (600 USD vs 85 USD for new lenses)
  8. approximately at 10.5 times cheaper Sigma 35mm 1: 1.4 DG HSM | A (900 USD vs 85 USD for new lenses)
  9. approximately at 6 times cheaper Sigma 30mm 1: 1.4 DC HSM | A (500 USD vs 85 USD for new lenses)
  10. approximately at 2.5 times cheaper Sigma 30mm 1: 1.4 EX DC (200 USD vs 80 USD per second lenses)
  11. approximately at 2.5 times cheaper Sigma af 30mm f / 1.4 EX DC HSM (200 USD vs 80 USD per second lenses)
  12. many times cheaper Sigma 40mm 1: 1.4 DG HSM | A
  13. approximately at 3 times cheaper Tokina MACRO 35 F2.8DX AT-X PRO (230 USD vs 80 USD per second lenses)
  14. many times cheaper Yongnuo Lens 35mm 1: 1.4

As a result, the new Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 is cheaper than even the cheapest version from Canon in a used state. I indicated prices based on average current value in online stores. Unfortunately, the second-hand Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 only sells a little cheaper than the new one, because for the 'used' option I indicated a price equal to $ 80 (I sold this lens for about so much after creating its review).

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 Yongnuo Lens Made In China (YN35mm F2, for Canon EOS) copied / upgraded the optical scheme of the original Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2, and the design of the case took Yongnuo Lens EF 50mm 1: 1.8which, in turn, is a copy of the original Canon Lens EF 50mm 1: 1.8 II. As a result, the lens from this review is a mixture Canon 50 / 1.8 II с Canon 35 / 2.

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (YN35mm F2)

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (YN35mm F2)

Assembly

In a small box, together with the Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2, there is a coupon with the date of manufacture, instructions in Chinese and English, and the lens itself with front and back covers. The box is made in the colors typical of Nikon Nikkor golden boxes.

The Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 is the only lens from Yongnuo Digital with a country of origin. On the rim of the case there is a not at all hidden inscription 'Yongnuo Lens Made In China', which, most likely, is a copy-reference to the original inscription 'Canon Lens Made In Japan' Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2. On all other lenses from Yongnuo Digital there is no information about the country of the manufacturer.

Please note that the Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 is not equipped with a lens hood, and there is no mention of the lens hood in the lens manual. Most likely, with the lens it will be possible to use any universal hood, which is installed in the thread of the front filter.

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 made of plastics, which made the lens very light, while the Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 uses a metal mount. Unfortunately, the focus ring and the retractable front of the frame (trunk) have a small backlash. Over time, the inscriptions, made in white paint, begin to climb around.

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 is one of the lightest autofocus lenses, weighing only 155 grams. The diameter of the front filter has a very popular size and is 52 mm. While working with a polarizing filter, I was a little worried if the trunk of the lens would fall off from the forces of rotation of the polarizer.

Focus ring Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 rubberized (for Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2 plastic). Unfortunately, the Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 does not have useful focus distance marks, DOF scales, or tags for working in the infrared spectrum. There is only one single red dot for connecting the lens to the camera.

I note that Yongnuo 35mm 1: 2 (for Nikon cameras) is better manufactured than the Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (for Canon cameras). Unlike the version for Canon cameras, it has virtually internal focusing, a window with a focusing distance, a depth of field scale, a more thoughtful focusing ring and can use a bayonet-type hood.

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (YN35mm F2)

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (YN35mm F2)

Focusing

For focusing Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 uses micro motor and is an analog of Canon MM (Micro Motor). Auto Focus will work with any Canon EOS SLR camera.

Auto focus quite noisy. Focus speed average (closer to low), slightly lower than the original lens Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2.

I worked with a lens on a Canon Digital Rebel camera (aka Canon EOS 300D Digital, aka Canon EOS Kiss Digital) with very simple 7-point focusing system) Focusing low, lens tends to make focus mistakes sometimes. Accuracy and tenacity practically does not depend on the use of a cross-shaped focus point or linear.

The lens has an AF \ MF focus mode switch. Be sure to switch it to the MF position during manual focus. If this is not done, then the auto focus mechanism may be damaged. In AF mode, the focus ring is not locked, but continues to rotate due to the power of the micro motor, while it cannot be touched.

In manual focus mode, the focus ring rotates approximately 70 degrees. Rubber focus ring.

Lens does not have internal focus, during focusing, the frame of the body ('trunk') moves forward about half a centimeter, while the front lens does not rotate. It is possible to use various filters without any problems.

The minimum focusing distance is only 25 cm, while you can get the maximum magnification for macro photography of 1: 4.3, which is not bad for such a lens.

Other features:

  1. Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 does not have a hard stop (hard infinity mechanical stop) that allows you to accurately and quickly focus the lens to infinity under any external temperature conditions. For accurate aiming at infinity, you cannot just bring the focus ring to its extreme position.
  2. Focus shift (shift-focus) is missing.
  3. Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 has a small 'Focus Breathing' effect (changing the viewing angle during focusing). During focusing towards the MDF, the viewing angle decreases.
  4. Unknown compatibility with teleconverters. A
  5. The direction of the 'AF-MF' switch and the direction of the focus ring are the same as the original Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2.
  6. Focusing is performed by simultaneously moving the entire lens block (all lenses) relative to the focal plane.

Important: Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 - a lens from a third-party manufacturer. It may happen that it will not work correctly with some Canon cameras. Known Issues:

  1. on Canon EOS DIGITAL cameras 450D (aka Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XSi, aka Canon EOS Kiss X2 is one of the first cameras with Live View) and Canon 600D this lens does not focus correctly, either focuses very, very long, or focuses inaccurately in Live View mode.
  2. the lens sometimes continues to focus (drives the lens all the way, i.e., to the MDF or to infinity) after the focus activation button has been depressed (usually by half-pressing the shutter button). This happens if the lens is not focused accurately enough (the lens somehow continues to focus when the focus button has already been released). Not everyone will notice this feature and it does not particularly interfere with comfortable work with the lens.
  3. perhaps with other cameras there may be other unpleasant features.
Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (YN35mm F2)

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (YN35mm F2)

Image quality

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 uses an aperture with 7 rounded blades. The formed hole is much rounder than that of the 5 blade Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2. With such a diaphragm you can get 14 ray stars from bright light sources.

On F / 2.0, in the center of the frame, the sharpness is acceptable, but it drops significantly to the corners and edges of the frame, even on cropped cameras. At F / 2.8, there is a noticeable increase in sharpness over the entire field of the frame. The best sharpness is achieved at F / 8-F / 10. The frame angles on full-format cameras remain quite weak even at F / 8-F / 10.

Vignetting and distortion are moderate and do not cause any particular complaints. On cropped Canon APS-C cameras, vignetting doesn't bother even at F / 2.0.

At the edges and corners of the image, a strong increase in chromatic aberration was noticed. In the center of the frame chromatic aberration normal.

In general, the quality of the image does not surprise anything special and is comparable to a rather old original Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2.

The main differencesI'm between Canon Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 and Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2

It's no secret that Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (YN35mm F2) was copied с Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2. But there are slight differences between the lenses:

  1. Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 in production since 2015 and is a newer lens. Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2 available since 1990 and is an older lens. Lens Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2 they’re no longer releasing and it’s getting harder to buy it new.
  2. All Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 lenses are available in China. All lenses Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2 produced in Japan.
  3. Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 weighs 55 grams less than Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2.
  4. Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 uses the device aperture with 7 rounded petals, while Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2 uses only 5 straight petals, which negatively affects the circles of confusion.
  5. The new Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 costs about 2 times cheaper than used Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2.
  6. Some modern Canon cameras can automatically correct some lens distortions. Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2. With Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2, some image enhancement functions will not be available, since this lens is not in the memory of modern cameras.
  7. Lenses have a different body design. First of all, different placement of the focus ring. Many other little things are also different.
  8. У Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2 there is a window with a focus distance scale, as well as a depth of field scale and a label for working in the infrared spectrum. Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 does not have all these useful things.
  9. Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2 focuses faster.
  10. In optical performance, the lenses are close to each other.
  11. Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 has a lot more features and problems with some specific cameras (for example, focus problems in Live View, etc.)
Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (YN35mm F2)

The sizes of the lenses Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (YN35mm F2) and Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-55mm 1: 3.5-5.6 II

My experience

I spent a couple of months with Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 and shot about ten thousand frames on it. I did not find any special problems with the lens, I got used to some features within a few hours.

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 has one indisputable advantage - good price / quality ratio. I would highly recommend the Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 in addition to any regular dark zoom lens.

Yongnuo has introduced two excellent solutions to the world of camera enthusiasts taking pictures with Canon cameras: Yongnuo Lens EF 50mm 1: 1.8 and Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2. These focal lengths are very popular with prime lenses. Often "fifty" and "thirty-five" are recommended as the first high-aperture fixes for amateur photographers who want to join the world of high-aperture optics.

I was delighted with Yongnuo 35mm 1: 2 (model YN35mm F2N for Nikon cameras). The Canon version is a little worse, but still of great interest to amateur photographers.

Yongnuo Lens EF 35mm 1: 2 (YN35mm F2) on a Canon Digital Rebel camera (aka Canon EOS 300D Digital, aka Kiss Digital)

Results

Value for money Yongnuo EF 35mm 1: 2 is at a good level. There are certain drawbacks to the lens, but overall it’s attractive lens for amateur and novice enthusiasts. At some points, the Yongnuo EF 35mm 1: 2 is even better than the original old man Canon lens EF 35mm 1: 2.

Advantages

  1. very low cost (about 100 dollars)
  2. metal mount, rubberized focus ring, light weight
  3. small MDF, good magnification factor for macro photography
  4. seven-petal diaphragm with rounded petals
  5. no focus shift
  6. confident sharpness at F / 2.0 in the center of the frame
  7. good contrast (most likely due to normal / good enlightenment), neutral color rendering
  8. fairly round blur discs on F / 2-F / 2.8 apertures
  9. moderate distortion
  10. moderate chromatic aberration in the center of the frame
  11. low vignetting on Canon APS-C cameras (crop)
  12. normal lateral light resistance

Disadvantages

  1. low focus speed
  2. frequent focusing errors and poor focus tenacity (most likely only with some cameras)
  3. serious focus problems in live view with some cameras
  4. noise from the focus motor
  5. lack of internal focus
  6. rotation of the focus ring during auto focus
  7. lack of constant manual focus control
  8. small stroke of the focus ring, lack of a scale of focusing distances and other useful marks
  9. the survivability of this lens and the variation in quality are unknown (the version for Nikon was optically better)
  10. slight backlash of the focus ring and the trunk of the lens
  11. lack of a hood in the delivery set (maybe not all sets are delivered without a hood), a non-bayonet type hood
  12. small effect of 'Focus Breathing' (changes in viewing angle during focusing)
  13. non circular blur discs on f / 3.5-f / 22 apertures
  14. tangible vignetting on full-format cameras and open apertures
  15. noticeable drop in sharpness at the edges and corners of the frame on full-size cameras
  16. strong chromatic aberration at the corners and edges of the frame
  17. uncertain backlighting due to specific glare
  18. there may be incompatibility with some cameras and / or teleconverters (for example, the lens will not work correctly with Dual Pixel technology, compatibility with the adapter is unknown Canon mount adapter EF - EOS M)
  19. lack of data about the lens in modern cameras, which makes it difficult to automatically correct some types of distortion (distortion, vignetting etc.)

Please ask all questions regarding the lens in the comments, I will definitely try to answer. Comments do not require any registration or any personal data.

  • NE

    Thank you

  • Alexey

It turns out Yongnuovsky 40mm and 100mm for Nikon brought. People, we fly! )))

  • Matthew

    Harsh as diarrhea!

  • Photobooster

This is something with something ...
From some pictures, when viewing bokeh, it just muddies ...

  • Peter Sh.

Because I am not troubled by bokeh, I bought myself one for Nikon. They promised that the ship from China would bring it to me by the end of the month. Only. Just deadly speed in the 21st century. Horror.

  • 123

Comrades, and if you choose from the fixes to your first ff (I haven't decided yet - used 5D_mk2 or used 1Ds_mk3), what would you choose - a yaga from the review, Canon EF 40mm 1: 2.8 STM, or eat a doshirak and then go broke on new Canon EF 35mm 1: 2 IS USM?
The camera and glass will be for the soul, not for work.
Is the new 35/2 worth stub SUCH an overpayment?
And if you compare the new Canon 40 / 2.8 with the new 35/2 from Canon, will there be a difference in the picture?
I plan to use on covered diaphragms (street, landscape both in the afternoon and in the evening).

    • Peter Sh.

The Canon EF 35mm 1: 2 IS USM is definitely better than all of them.
Although I consider the best lens of all 35mm, in terms of price / quality, of course Samyang 35mm f / 1.4. But it is manual and not calibrated to infinity. Moreover, with such aperture it is difficult to focus with your hands. But it's worth it.

    • B. R. P.

      Rusks + water = Canon 35 1.4)

    • Alexey

For the second dime - 40mm, because its matrix simply won't let you get sharpness at fifty dollars up to f / 4.0, and 40mm is quite good on it.
About 1Ds_mk3 I will not say.

  • B. R. P.

Special thanks for the full-frame sample photos.

  • TSerg (Sergiy)

If you have come, you can buy it. If only a little bit more information about new ones in the fancywork. Infected, marveled at the photo from yours, I will look around, see it, do it kindly, without buying the whole "miracle" of Chinese optics. It was honored - the price and the ability to shrink against a light, but also a metal bayonet.
All the reshta is not per gram, it does not affect the contrast, the decrease in the sharpness of the trocha further to the center, the filthy transfer of green and blue, vinєtuvannya. About the "dark active," what about those who did not get announced. First of all, it’s just as flimsy, like Canon 50 / 1.8 II.
More beautifully, however, it’s more or less the same as the old manual.
    Crazy for looking around, Arkadiy!

    • anonym

      Dark? What are you carrying!

    • anonym

Bullshit, not comment. Subjectively, that's all.

      • Oleksandr

Dear “ANOnim”, there is no need to engage in provocations here. Who allowed you to call someone else's opinion nonsense? Why are you “anonymous”: are you afraid of someone or have you already disgraced yourself somewhere ??

      • TSerg (Sergiy)

Announcements, announcements - one field of acidity.
Velmi neshanovaniy anonim, you are looming when you write such comments and zaadzhuyuchi site. About ”Active dark. It can be seen from the svitlins of Arcadia (marvel at those who were left behind, wiping their eyes in front of them). The slope behind such a light power is not so bright and not so contrasting. And win yes tini on the level of manual Takumara 35 / 3,5.
Buying a store is the prerogative of the cob, who wants to try it, but it’s the same, and it’s quiet, what you want is good, but for a few pennies. So do not boo now. According to Wantsi cap).
Chinese optics Yongnuo Lens at once on the Korean Korea’s Samyang rivals 1970s rock.
Once again, I seem to say that it is more old than manual, less the “miracle” of the Chinese optician. Distort about the "active" of a well-known brand by the end of the term of the patent - that's all, on the whole, the Chinese "maystri" is built. But it will be necessary to know how to optically cook. And these formulas are inaccessible to them.

        • Arkady Shapoval

Holy enlightenment, what have I just read?

          • TSerg (Sergiy)

Not evil, Arkadiyu, the day of your food.

  • Alexander

What can I say, for the price and a hat .... :)
Better to dig up and take a budget Nikkor 50mm-1.8G, although it is more expensive, but a picture of heaven and earth .... you can even use it

  • Alexander

Also, on Canon, the same fifty-kopeck piece of native used / y is better to take for the same money ....

    • Dmitriy

And under what circumstances will 50 mm turn into 35?

      • Alexey

Probably when installing it on a medium format. This is elementary, Watson))

  • maribor

    It's my pleasure

  • zengarden

The Chinese continue to delight. For its price, a pretty good lens.
And the manual ones are also surprisingly good.
Again, this is aimed at a certain niche - people who are on a budget but want a lens with the right focal length. Therefore, you cannot compare it with expensive native models.

  • Ivan

And for some reason it seems to me that for a home for a family and for myself a favorite lens for the eyes. Here the main emergence of an alternative to company objects for a penny and getting an acceptable result. You can’t imagine a better whale in the Crop. And the pros will simply bypass him.

    • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

I bought Yaga 35 for Nikon and ... put it down. She does not allow 24 megapixels on the crop. You look at the pictures and wonder if it's out of focus or soap. Here, too, in the examples, this is noticeable - by the blur you can see that the object is in the depth of field, but at the same time it is blurred. And the autofocus is "lazy" - it often almost tightens. I have to refocus just in case. This is a lens for 12-14MP crop or full frame. Most likely even for the second - for the amateur FF. There the price of lenses is much higher than cropped lenses. And on a used crop the lens is comparable to the price of this Yagi, while surpassing it.

      • Ivan

Thank you for this valuable remark. Well, the new 24MP and higher, it is clear that they are selective for the old and not very optics. It is interesting that this one does not channel - well, so it is copied from the model calculated under the Tsar City. Well, 10ku mp covers and to hell with it. On my old 6-10 megapixels will go. THX.

      • Valentine

My YN35 on the open worked correctly with 24MP, that is, optically, it definitely permits 24MP. Where did this opinion come from, that it was optics (and not other reasons) that did not allow 24 megapixels, it is not clear. Misses in focus happened, but I can’t say that there were a lot of them (the native Nikkor 35mm 1.8G also makes the same mistake about the same). Therefore, the lens for Nikon is quite working. But you need to understand that YN is not a native lens, and therefore the camera can work with it a little differently than with a native lens (correcting distortion, vignetting, aberrations, determining exposure by channels and even choosing a value for white balance). As a result, the output picture may be inferior to the original lenses. But I repeat once again, there are no good reasons to indicate that the lens does not allow 24 megapixels, or that this model has some frank flaws that make it inoperative, no. For Nikon, the YN35 and YN50 lenses are quite working.

        • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

From the comparison of Yagi with the original lens. And he wrote about it - the object is blurred, but at the same time it got into the depth of field - how to count? About misses - if for each press the native lens refocuses, even if the object was already in focus. Sometimes Yaga refuses to do this - you have to focus on another object, then again on the desired one. If he was really good, he would not be lying on the shelf now.

      • Peter Sh.

Honestly, I still can’t understand what the lens means does not allow the matrix?
Can I show you something? In pictures.

        • Arkady Shapoval

Most likely, this is trivial - at F / 2.0, the lens does not sharpen every pixel of 24 megapixel crop.

          • Valentine

Yes, yes, it seems to me, it is in this spirit, only you usually hear different expressions - soapy, muddy, not sharp, not clear, does not resolve the matrix, etc. In fact, it turns out that we are talking either about a decrease in the characteristics of the lens on the open one, which is present in everyone to one degree or another, or shooting problems that have nothing to do with the lens.

        • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

The 9th photo in the examples in this thread. A bee in the DOF but it feels like it's out of focus. And the rest of the pictures. Is this considered normal granularity? Even resize did not help.

          • Valentine

The bee is in focus, and even the hairs on the body are clearly visible. For open aperture and close range, the image is decent. It's not, after all, a macro lens. You needlessly cling to this photo, for this lens it is very good. Whoever lacks sharpness will do it with post-processing, but in terms of sharpness, I would be quite satisfied with this frame as it is.

        • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

More or less sharp photos with an aperture of 5. But why then need a fix when a regular zoom can do the same?

          • Alexey

They are already being drained, the entire secondary housing is dammed up. Everyone has one legend - “I bought it, lay down, sell it”.

            • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

No. Ordered for Nikon, and sent for Canon. And vice versa.

              • Alexey

                :)

      • Andrei

I took yong 10 50 for Nikon for 1,8 frames, normally he allowed the matrix on my D7200, I was satisfied and the oil bokeh is cool
I can’t say anything about the 35-ke, but Arkady wrote that Paul Nikon has an oversharp, however, at d90

      • BB

Don't confuse detail with sharpness. At open aperture it is not sharp, so it seems to you that it “does not allow”. Covering the aperture up to 2,5-2,8 "suddenly gives" a resolution of 24 megapixels at crop (D7100)

      • Artem

Everything is very simple, open yongnuo has a soft effect. That is, it is not a matter of resolving how many megapixels there are, but that it is stupidly soft on the open. if you cover up to 2.5, it will be sharp and at 24 mgp

  • Dmitriy

Already waiting for a review at 300d. It seems that there is no sense in such a review, but reading about old women is still nice.

    • Arkady Shapoval

I was pleasantly surprised by the picture from this old camera.

  • Paul

And what is the hidden meaning of doing a review on almost 2 identical lenses only for different systems? Think on the version for kenon put another lens unit?

    • Arkady Shapoval

      There are many reasons:
      1. Different implementation of automatic focus. If everything is more or less on Nikon, then Canon is not so much fun.
      2. Different design of the case and its reliability. If Nikon is okay, then the version for Canon hangs the trunk, while the hood is screwed into the thread of the front filter. those. in the trunk, which makes the lever even larger and the stability of the lens even less.
      3. In this review, you can compare Yongnuo for Canon with the original Canon 35/2 and the price with other similar lenses for Canon

In general, the versions for Canon and Nikon are quite different, to be limited to one review.

    • photo shooter

Because everyone has their own theme and everyone is interested to hear about their own. Even for this reason.

      • Paul

what's your topic ?! these are the same eggs only in profile

        • Alexey

I felt both of these eggs. Eggs from Nikon abruptly a bit))

          • Paul

And here I see the same picture in comparison with my Nikon egg. So the glasses are the same.

            • Arkady Shapoval

I can point out this: all the old fifty fifty 50, for example: Canon 1.8 / 50, 1.8 / 50 II, Nikon 1.8 50 AF MKI-MKIII use the same optical double-gauss scheme, the drawings of the schemes, if not the same, then the first look are indistinguishable, in fact, like the picture from them. At the same time, no one forbids reviewing both lens data.
It so happened that some versions of Yongnuo lenses for Nikon and Canon have tangible or fundamental differences, therefore they deserve a separate review.

              • Paul

No, I don't mind if there is time and desire) It just seems to me that these lenses have the same lens unit. And comparing the rest of the tinsel is not so interesting. Well, or it could be limited to a short overview of something like - focusing is not as clear as on Nikon, the trunk is dangling. There are many such reviews for 1 paragraph here. And here is a detailed large review, with examples of photos, and even from different cameras.
I'd like to see your review of old Canon lenses with FD and FDn mounts, compare the FD SSC and FDn series, they have a lot of good lenses, I know that you only have 2 reviews and these 2 are the cheapest of them.

              • Arkady Shapoval

There is a huge variety of optics, they write to me that they want to see reviews of this, and this, and that. And the time in days is only 24 hours, and besides reviews there are other things.

    • Alexey

The key word is practically. In fact, these are two completely different glasses from different weight categories.

  • Peter Sh.

I wondered how my most beggarly lens Nikon AF Nikkor 28-80mm f / 3.3-5.6G matrix Fujifilm S5 Pro resolves. He was very worried, could not even eat.

In short, I had to check:

    • Valentine

Peter, the man who wrote about the fact that the lens from the review does not allow the matrix, was simply mistaken. Neither the original Canon / Nikon lenses, nor their copies from YN, suffer from this problem. The main problem, as I understand it, in a person is that the frame is, in his opinion, not sharp enough in the open, in some cases, apparently, quite blurry. Well, you certainly understand that there are a lot of reasons for this and the question is not only in the lens.

  • Peter Sh.

Question, as they say, to experts. How does this ancient cheap lens resolve the matrix?

    100% crop:

    • Onotole

Not a connoisseur, but try to guess:

Aperture in the region of 7-8 + large-pixel camera.
If so, then the miracle did not happen.

And yet, the G-lens can never be “ancient”.

      • Peter Sh.

The diaphragm is fully open (you can see exif there). 12MP on crop is not large, but quite a medium pixel.

You mean Yaga from the review will be worse?

        • Alexey

It was better to ask this question in the subject on this lens.
I, too, am not an expert, but I will answer. A cheap lens does not mean bad, and this is exactly the case. On a closed diaphragm it gives an excellent result, both in contrast and resolution, up to a diagonal of 15 mm, on an open aperture it is satisfactory (see the MTF graph).
And yes, G is not an ancient lens, but it can be done using the “ancient” ones. For example, the resolution of the PHOTO 64 film from the Svema plant, according to GOST 92 lin / mm (meaning pairs of lines, naturally), is a little less than 30 Mpix. film, are quite capable of resolving most matrices.
So, a miracle did not happen, he did what he was capable of.
Finally, a fly in the ointment, 100% crop in your photo, the resolution didn’t seem to me particularly outstanding (you can see, for example, how the hair on the neck is blurry and weakly contrasted).

          • Peter Sh.

The question was not about a miracle, but about the resolution of the matrix lens. I took this lens because it is the weakest of all. This is to the fact that Yungnuo from the review they say does not resolve the matrix, even with examples from the review. So I wondered what it is, “matrix lens resolution”?

In my case, only part of the picture is in focus, and this is 100% crop.

            • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

I will wait when he comes to you and you compare it with your zoom. My lost 18-55. Then what is this fix for?

              • Peter Sh.

                I quite admit it.

I checked a dozen other lenses on the doll. Both fixes and zooms. All with AF, different generations and eras. There was a 50mm macro from Sigma.

The face of the doll is about 5 cm, even small misses of AF are clearly visible. Specifically on the 5S pro, Tamron DI SP 70-300mm F / 4-5.6 VC had the best autofocus and the most juicy picture.
Surprisingly, on open diaphragms it was as sharp as the fixes. Again, in these ideal light conditions.

All fast fixes smeared mercilessly (with respect to the tiny face, of course). Nikon 50mm f / 1.8G turned out to be the best, both in terms of AF accuracy and sharpness and contrast.

                Something like that.

              • Valentine

And how was the comparison carried out: at first they set 35 mm on the zoom, clicked the frame, then put on the fix and also clicked? Without a tripod, without test targets, in auto mode, without alignment of the exposure metering parameters?

              • Valentine

This was a question for Vitaly. Peter, I’m 50 1,8G from aperture on an open (in a more or less comparable budget) I also like more than others both in focusing and in picture quality.

              • Peter Sh.

Valentine, compared it that way, with a tripod and in the manual mode of the camera and flashes, turning off all the guns.

            • Alexey

That is, simply those who claim that the matrix does not allow the matrix decided to troll? Well, then it was too thin. Sorry for not understanding, and tried to explain in earnest. Good luck to you.

              • Peter Sh.

In fact, this issue is much more serious than it might seem at first glance.

People unshakably believe that the sharpness, contrast and resolution of the matrix are the most important characteristics of the lens. There may also be color rendition and drawing, but this is supposedly already pampering. And sacredly honors spherical horses in a vacuum from DXOmark, Photozone, Lenstip, etc.

In fact, everything is much more complicated. Even with minor changes in light conditions, even when changing lamp types, all these characteristics begin to change dramatically. What was sharp and juicy in the studio turns out to be very mediocre on the street or in a room with ordinary light. And vice versa.

              • Alexey

The question of the resolution of the lens, matrix, system as a whole, is not simple, and at first glance.

    • Alexey

To begin with, this is a very good budget lens (one of the ten best in old Ken). At one time, he also avoided any whale, but this glass was pleasantly surprised by the quality, given its cost at the time of purchase from hand (about $ 15).

Any of the Yongnu fixes will be easier than the fix. Also get lightness, compactness and a large depth of field.

Versions for Nikon suited me, even there was no desire to compare pixel by pixel. For Canon lenses, questions about the appropriateness of buying arose even taking them in hand, but they also have a right to exist. Especially among thrifty amateurs.

    • Alexey

      * Any of the Yongnuov fixes will be easier than the zoom lens

      • Ivan

In general, without falling into hysterics regarding the battle of experts, here I will note that for example none of my old zooms from Nikon at 850k it is no longer pulled out to sprinkle creepy ... It's like for a camera in ultra HD 4k, for example, installing Betacam optics and then trying to output on a projector in size imax a. Well, it's funny. It's the same here. I have a g that permits - well, super people are lucky enough to wind up advertising bought for 15 goodbye for 50 at least. To dust for a reason

        • Alexey

It is strange to compare the demands of modern technology and the capabilities of old optics. The advantage of 28-80 is that for ridiculous money you can get a completely commercial picture on film and a full frame of the D700 level (by the way, this is the camera in this review). For a commercial chaos with an undemanding client and homemade shots, you don't need more. 1000 rubles for a full-frame lens with an acceptable picture - is this generally legal? ))
On the D750 and D600, taking it makes little sense. Not to mention top-level cameras. Therefore, it is not clear why this talk about the echoes of the past and the D850? Decided to brag? Well, super people are lucky, what else to say. We will rejoice for such.

          • Ivan

It is strange that no one even understood about the sending in the video))) I do not scratch the photo - not my bread. I collect and restore oldies from olya and nikon. Discussion about the tape - well, it's already dead. Non-demanding clients are also nonsense. I like 850 because the thing to brag about is that the box is not Bugatti tea. There are many different comments here, the main thing is Spock

        • Valery A.

Ivan, did you yourself understand what you wrote at the end of your comment?

          • Ivan

I translate - so as not to spread in idle thought along the tree. With selfish interest to grow together - everything seems to be clear.

        • Alexey

And here two different Alexei write))

          • Alexey

            Maybe three. My posts on 13.10.2017/08/00 17:15, 21:09, XNUMX:XNUMX. :)

        • Valentine

Ivan, since you compared the old optics with the new D850, please drop a link to examples where, in your opinion, you can see how this old optics does not extend the D850.
And so on this lens: these lenses work out 24 megapixels of amateur cameras, for more they are not needed. Well, the budget lens is made for the mass segment of amateurs with budget cameras. If their prices for ali subtract transport costs, taxes, income of sellers, the manufacturer's margin - there is generally a ridiculous amount for all materials and assembly. And this is optics, this is enlightenment, this is the casting and processing of the case, this is electronics and the mechanics of focusing - and all this must be packed into this very low price.
Of course, this lens is simpler and worse than the originals, but it is quite working and cheap, and therefore it sells well. Taking it on the D850 or any other professional cameras (no matter how many megapixels there are, it's not so much the point) - it's just not rational to distribute funds between the carcass and the optics.

          • Ivan

Valentin well, I'm really complacent here to all the comments, in principle, do not turn into frank srach and useless egomerilics. I project for myself in a different way. NEVER IMAGING A CLASSIC FROM A PHOTO or a know-it-all I talk about what I have encountered or what is constantly in intercourse on duty as a hobby). So this is what is at 6 at 40k and at 10 at 40x and 80k, in principle, it does not matter what you have in your hands - 50 1.4 of the late 60s or 85mm f / 1.4G ... you pull everything out of the carcasses. Another one with the same 850 ... Yes, with any probably ff from Sonya Boots and our beloved Nikon. For the FOURTH TIME video is added to the photo. And there is something else. I hope there is no need to paint optical requirements for 4K? For some reason I am sure that most of the audience of the site do not even imagine what ВROADCAST is in the world of professional video filming. And I'm just sure that if everyone's favorite plastic for 15 ye on RED, for example, produced the same image as ARRI, ZEISS and so on, then there would be no questions at all. Well, something like this. And the fact that on the flea markets of the former Union you can find a fig of something interesting for under 20-30-40 evergreens - well, we catch perfectly well! Best regards

Ivan, I just asked you for examples of shooting on the D850 with this lens (I'm interested, I did not hold the D850 in my hands). Well, he pointed out that, in my opinion, this lens is definitely not for the D850. I do not know how your text relates to my simple question, but apparently it touched you greatly.

              • Ivan

Valentine's post did not touch at all))) This object has not been held in his hands since the beginning of the zero years. And I don't plan to. I just conveyed my view of things to you and several opponents. For example, I can post a photo with any of the zooms in metal paired with a 850 - I just started my speech about this) I can adaptal Nikorr look to Komuru without a difference.

              • Alexey

                Please, lay out.

              • Valentine

Ivan, I’d like to see it already.

And here is the highlight of our program, Youngnuo 35mm f / 2 for Nikon.
    Same conditions as before - Fujifilm 5S pro, f / 2 aperture.

It’s worthy after all! 35 steers!

      • Alexey

Yes, Yaga is better than 28-80. Did anyone have doubts? But, for a full frame, I would not take a yaga. And for the crop, the thing is, aside from the problems with autofocus, and the price is good. But here's how to get away from them? ...

        • Denis

          bokeh!

    100% crop:

  • Peter Sh.

I think all questions about the resolution of modern matrices are exhausted.

Well and D610, just a diffused daylight from the window:

    • anonym

It seems that the conversation was about 24 megapixel crop, even the 850 pixel is larger, not to mention the 610 and especially the fuji

      • Peter Sh.

On the 24MP crop, everything will be fine too. In good light.
In poor light, there will be a completely different alignment, this must be understood. And it doesn’t matter how many megapixels.

What is bad light? For example. Fish under the light of night lights, Fuji 5S Pro.
There is some sharpness and contrast. Although the light is rather dim for our eyes. But it is rigid enough so that the lens and camera can draw a picture. If I try to shoot something at home under normal lighting, nothing of the sort will come out of it. Although light is brighter for our eyes, it is too uniform and diffused for the camera and the same lens.

      • Peter Sh.

Conclusion: with enough light, all lenses are good. With insufficient light, you need already high-aperture expensive lenses. The rest will sharply deteriorate the characteristics, it would seem out of the blue, for no apparent reason.

        • Alexey

I'll correct it a little. The performance of the system as a whole will deteriorate, the fault of the lens is minimal here. And the reason is “visible” - the intensity of electromagnetic waves of the visible spectrum.

          • Peter Sh.

Just in this case, the lens plays a decisive role.
If I take Sigma or Samyang 35mm 1.4, then the picture quality will be radically better.

        • Ivan

A wonderful commentator - calmly spreads and analyzes using his examples. ATP for pictures - very interesting! And in general, everything is on the case.

          • Peter Sh.

            Thank you!

Sorry, the comment is off-topic, but still answer, please. Does it make sense to switch from Nikon D5600 to Canon 7D or, for example, to Canon 70D?

    • Denis

it's up to you. What does the D5600 not suit?

    • photo shooter

Yes Only then switch to other systems))) And tell us - we will be interested)))))

      2 Anonymous:
      I would not.
The DD for this camera is 14EV, it's like the D500, D7000 and some FF cameras of the past segment.
If you need a good focusing module - splurge on the D500.
If you want no noise at night and focus is better than the current one, then take the D750.
Old 7D now, at the end of 2017 it is not worth taking. Do not get anything in profit. 70D I would not consider either.
IMHO, if you jump from your camera, then immediately on ff otherwise money wasted.
If there are a lot of cropped glasses and you don’t want to switch to ff, then D500.
If you don’t like Nikon’s skinton and categorically want to leave him for a crop from Canon, then take 7DMk2.

      • BB

What for the lover of prof. D500 carcass for "crazy" money?

It makes sense to switch to 70D if you want to shoot a video with good autofocus (there is dual-pixel technology there). But then you have to go broke for good optics.

There are not enough buttons, a motor, exposure metering with manual optics - take 7200/7100, there is not enough high working ISO - the way to FF (D610, D750 ...).

        • Ivan

, there is not enough high working ISO - the path to the FF (D610, D750 ...).
Rather, this is the way to SONY)))

    • Ivan

From Nikon to Boots or from Boots to Nikon? The question is why. At FF, it was still all right - it was sold in any - but even in Sonya. Although it seems to me that according to the level of the question posed, the answer is obvious - to change the system, the camera from an amateur to a provincial, the newest model to an old box ??? - noooooooooooooooooooooooooo

      • Ivan

This is about 7d ... About 70ku, Boot has the same dullness as in his time with the 400-600 series plus or minus - the same CRAZY - 7 years the brains were taken out - what has changed for Fotik - a lazy video was glued - but the progress of the type. Not Boot, he is in Marks and begins with L ek - the rest is a scam - passed - no need)

  • a lion

Excellent glass for me. For such little money, it makes it clear what a fix on a crop is.

  • Marina

I was afraid to take China .. I took a cheap fifty dollars Canon. I do not regret it. I look at this sharpness and really not enough (

I decided to take pictures of New Year's decorations here. Well, it's just beautiful, at the same time training is once again. First I took Samyang 35mm f / 1.4. It turned out that from a distance close to the MDF, and even in the dark, to shoot one torment with it. From the light - one garland, in the OVI nifig is not visible. Focus Confirmation lights up, but is actually past. It's also not easy in lifeview, the depth of field is very thin, and I don't really know how to shoot like this, the position is uncomfortable, everything is shaking while I aim.
Put this Yaga. It turned out much better. Although the light is scanty, it’s harsh, full of contrast details, Yaga focuses without problems. Sometimes immediately, sometimes it was necessary a second time, but this is nonsense and does not take much time. By the way, the same thing happened with the Nikon 50mm f / 1.4G.
If I could control Samyang, the picture would be better.

You can highlight the flashlight to focus, and then, if the light from the flashlight is unnecessary in the frame, turn it off and take a frame.

      • Peter Sh.

Hmm .. And why should I keep a flashlight? Hands are busy)

      • Peter Sh.

I’m all for what. In this particular case, Yaga copes with the task. Samyang is not. The difference in price is five to six times.
And in principle, with any light-sensitive manual it will be the same.

        • Valentine

If samyang was taken because of 1.4 for shooting in dark conditions, then yes - nothing good will happen. But if we compare the optical properties of these lenses, then samyang is definitely a class higher. I'm even ready to agree that 1.4 is not always working. On the other hand, with covert values, contrast and tone separation are quite good. For a scene like this, a tripod and slow shutter speed would have been nice.

          • Oleg

A tripod is good. If you shoot from a tripod at a slow shutter speed, you can additionally figure out the light pattern, highlighting certain places while the camera is shooting.

          • Peter Sh.

This Samyang is just great for filming a night city. According to the picture, I have it the best in the range up to 85mm. In general, with him everything that is further than 3 meters is best for me. If I get into focus.

Yes, these pictures need to be taken with a tripod, no doubt about it. It's just that I had a different task - how and with what lens to shoot handheld in such conditions. Again, training in composition, light, etc.

If interested, here are pictures for comparison. I will not write data, everything can be viewed from the picture link.

          • Peter Sh.

Twice he wrote comments and both times they disappeared. It’s strange.

Yes, a tripod is much more appropriate here, but I had other tasks. It was necessary to find the optimal mode for handheld shooting in such conditions.

Samyang is just a great lens; it’s very suitable for shooting a night city. I compared it in such conditions with my Nikon family, it gives a better picture.
