In this review, NEWYI 25mm 1:1.8 will be referred to as NEWYI 25/1.8 for convenience.
It's important: NEWYI 25/1.8 is available in two body colors: black and silver. This review shows the black version.
It's important: the lens from this review is very similar to 25mm F1.8 HD VIII (CCTV, APS-C, Sony E, Fujian)As well as Risespray 25mm 1:1.8As well as FUJIAN 25/1.8. Most likely, the lenses use the same optical design, and the main difference is the different number of aperture blades and the application of the corresponding markings.
It's important: NEWYI 25/1.8 exists in several modifications. For example, there are sub-versions with 7 aperture blades, with 8 aperture blades and with 9 aperture blades. Also, sub-versions may differ in inscriptions on the body or near the front lens. NEWYI 25/1.8 also exists in a bayonet version (for example, for the Sony E-mount bayonet), and in a version for C-MOUNT thread.
In short
NEWYI 25/1.8 is a modern high-aperture lens with manual focus. One of the cheapest similar fixed lenses for cameras with an APS-C sensor and a maximum aperture of F/1.8. The lens from the review was purchased on Aliexpress.com for only 25 dollars (here).
25 mm is a very convenient focal length, which allows you to use NEWYI 25/1.8 as a standard (stock) lens for a huge number of different photographic tasks.
NEWYI 25/1.8 is interesting due to its very low price and maximum relative aperture of 1:1.8. It has some optical shortcomings, but overall it fully justifies its cost.

Many amateur photographers want a fast fix, especially in addition to their full-time / 'whale' lens. Aperture F / 1.8 two or more steps wider aperture of F/4, which is used in the 'dark' kit lenses at 25 mm focal length. In numerical terms, this means that the NEWYI 25/1.8 is approximately 5 times brighterthan, for example, regular Sony 18-55mm f / 3.5-5.6 OSS or Sony 16-50mm f / 3.5-5.6 PZ OSSwhich use a maximum relative aperture of only 25: 1 and 4: 1 at 4.5 mm of focal length. The calculation of the difference in the relative aperture (count the aperture) is performed elementarily: (4 * 4) / (1.8 * 1.8) = 4.94, which is rounded to the value '5'.
It's important: F/1.8 aperture is 'real' here, with light transmission around T/2.
Assembly
The lens arrived for review completely new, in a sealed box. The box contains the lens itself with front and rear caps and a RISESPRAY C-NEX adapter. Additionally, there was a set of several gifts-additions.
Overall, the lens is well assembled, although it is noticeable that it is a bit rough. NEWYI 25/1.8 has metal mount for bayonet, and the lens case itself is completely made of metal.
The front lens cap is plastic, attached to latches.
The weight of the lens is slightly more than 100 grams. In the hands, the lens feels like a pleasant thing. The diameter of the light filters is only 37 mm.
The diaphragm consists of 9 petals and forms a hole in the shape of a regular octagon. The diaphragm can only be controlled manually using a special ring. Aperture ring rotates smoothly no clicks and fixed values, you can set any intermediate value in the range F / 1.8-F / 16, which is very useful when shooting video. The aperture control ring rotates very smoothly and pleasantly.
Aperture marks between F/2 and F/8 do not match exposure with reference lens. At the F / 8 value, in fact, there is a real value close to F / 4.
Focusing
The focus ring is metal, ribbed, comfortable. The ring spins on 90 degrees. Focusing is not smooth enough, with an unpleasant rough character.
During focusing, the trunk of the lens runs forward but does not spin. During focusing, the entire lens block moves.
There is a scale on the ring with the focusing distance, but only in meters. The minimum focusing distance is 25 centimeters, and the maximum magnification factor is approximately 1:10.
NEWYI 25/1.8 has a noticeable 'Focus Breathing' effect (changes in the angle of view during focusing). When focusing towards the MDF, the angle of view decreases.
Hard stop (hard infinity mechanical stop) for fast and accurate focusing under any operating temperature conditions, the lens does not have. With adapter C-mount -> Sony E/NEX (included) there is a small flight of infinity at the extreme position of the focus ring.
Image quality
At closed apertures, NEWYI 25/1.8 easily copes with 20 megapixels of APS-C sensor Sony a3500. In the center of the frame, NEWYI 25/1.8 is sharp already at F/1.8.
Sharpness
- F / 1.8 lens has quite tolerable resolution in the center of the frame
- with aperture down to f/2.8 resolution becomes excellent
- there is a slight drop in sharpness towards the edges and corners of the frame, but even in the far corners of the frame at f / 1.8 the lens holds up well
- on covered diaphragms, corners and edges are in perfect order
- palpable coma
Distortion
- there is a small barrel-shaped distortion
- distortion is unified, easy to edit in the editor
Vignetting
- weak vignetting at f/1.8 (which is odd considering it's a CCTV lens originally designed for use with smaller sensors)
- vignetting decreases with focus towards MDF. Most noticeable when focusing on infinity
- vignetting almost completely disappears at F / 2.8
- vignetting easily fixable in the editor
Aberration
- there is a noticeable amount of chromatic aberration
- there is a noticeable frigging (the color of contrasting elements in the out-of-focus area is purple or green)
Rest
- With closed apertures it is easy to achieve the effect of a rayed star
- A large amount can be obtained from bright light sources glare and a significant drop in contrast
Important: At the time of this review, there was no NEWYI 25/1.8 profile for popular RAW converters. You can create the profile yourself or wait for its release.
Sample Photos
Sample photos on Sony NEX-6 (16MP Sony Exmor APS-C HD CMOS sensor), specially for this review, prepared Natalia (Instagram). All photos in this review are shown without processing, according to the principles ZEROJPEG.
Original JPEG images can be view / download from this link (Google Drive, 50+ files).
My experience
Small, cheap, great at closed aperture. Super-budget alternative for, for example, Carl Zeiss Sonnar E 1,8 / 24 ZA T * (Sony SEL24F18Z).
Most likely NEWYI 25/1.8 is FUJIAN 25/1.8 with fixed Sony E-mount.
Price
NEWYI 25/1.8 costs around $25. The easiest way buy NEWYI 25/1.8 on Aliexpress.comFor example, here at this link.
Results
NEWYI 25/1.8 has a good ratio price quality. For amateur photographers it should be a good solution as a manual standard lens for every day.
10 main advantages:
- very low price tagonly about 25 dollars)
- maximum aperture F/1.8
- compact sizes
- very convenient focal length for working on cameras with an APS-C sensor (EGF about 35 mm)
- good build quality: the lens body is completely made of metal, including a metal mount
- very compact sizes
- very light weight
- smooth aperture adjustment
- multi-illuminated optics
- quite tolerable sharpness in the center of the frame starting from f / 1.8
10 main disadvantages:
- small step at the aperture ring between apertures F / 4-F / 16
- the focus ring only rotates 90 degrees, a bit “rough”
- no CPU pins to form the correct EXIF
- there is no F / 11 value on the aperture control ring. The distance scale is marked only in meters.
- there is no lens profile for popular RAW converters, the lens is not 'hardwired' into modern cameras
- only 9 aperture blades (for Fujian 35mm F1.6 there are 12 of them)
- there is no lens hood included and no macro rings (they are available Fujian 25mm F/1.8)
- aperture marks F / 4-F / 8 do not match exposure with reference lens
- very poor backlight performance
- drop in sharpness at f / 1.8 at the edges and corners of the image

Material prepared Arkady Shapoval.
It seems that the designers and developers of this product did not bother to blacken the internal surfaces.
And vice versa, they were made in a bronze color scheme, which will increase light diffusion and highlights in the backlight.
If you really want to go crazy, you need to gild all the insides in an “expensive and rich” style and apply a thick amber coating to the lenses.
Looks more like a glitch in the color when photographing, turning black into bronze.
I believe that the professionalism of the authors and owners of this respected site excludes such mistakes.
My God, it's obvious that the photos were taken quickly on a phone against a background that makes the auto BB float. There's a photo of this lens on Ali, it's just black.
Toy lenses are already on the rise... Yeah! The photo industry for the people seems to have died...
A loud statement, considering that for the people, there is a choice of affordable high-quality autofocus solutions, as never before. China, Sigma, Tamron, etc.
What China? Crap? And what are the prices for normal lenses? You're being stupid...
Wiltrox for E 23/1.4 costs about $200. For comparison: EF-s 24/2.8 STM new cost about the same.
What are “normal” lenses for you? What do you mean by “the photo industry for the people”? If you are waiting for a $200 pro-level solution, then there never was one. What is wrong with modern autofocus solutions like TTArtisan, MEIKE, Viltrox in terms of price/quality?
In any case, judging the entire photography industry by one “no-name” is the height of cognitive distortion.
If your pension is no longer enough to cover your hobby, then you are making your complaints in the wrong place
It seems that such germs are collected by Chinese rooster breeders from “Get it yourself” kits purchased from Chinese analogues of many of our stores “Yuniy Technik” or “Everything for technical creativity”))
Arkady, judging by the published photographs, the enhancement coefficient for this lens is clearly higher, from less than 1 to 10.
Thank you for looking at this “masterpiece”!
Looks very similar to this lens:
Neewer 25/1.8.
The filter thread, however, is 46 mm.
It has the same features as NEWYI 25/1.8:
a) A short run beyond infinity.
b) If we consider that aperture 1.8 is true, then at mark 8 the real value is 5, and at mark 16 – 12.5.
But there are as many as 12 aperture blades (!!), an almost perfect circle (!!)
However, the drop in sharpness at the edges is very noticeable.
What can be done to reduce this drop: a) use an aperture in the middle between the 8 and 16 marks, which will actually be 8; b) after focusing in the center of the frame (with a compressed aperture!) turn the focus ring about 1 mm towards infinity.
It cost $2022 in 50, I think.
yes, most likely it is the same lens
and I remember a phrase from a joke - cheap stuff is cheap stuff! ...
