It is noteworthy that a version for the Nikon Z mount has not been announced, as has already been the case with other new lenses from Sigma.

    • Dmitry Kostin

Nikon has not opened up the specs for its new Z mount to third-party manufacturers, just as Canon hasn't opened up the specs for its new R mount.
      If I'm wrong, correct me.

      • Arkady Shapoval

So far only for crop series Sigma DC C Contemporary 16/1.4, 30/1.4, 56/1.4. It will most likely not be opened for a full frame soon. Just, for example, look at the cost of this Sigma 50mm 1: 1.2 DG DN A and the original Nikon Nikkor Z 50 / 1.2 S

    • Andy From Far Away

“... as has already happened with other new lenses from Sigma.”

Not with others, but with everyone. From Sigma for Nikon Z there were only DC (crop) versions. There are no full-frame ones at all.

  • i is glorious

Judging by the examples with DPreview, it’s a very good lens. Bokeh does not degrade even at “unpleasant” growth distances: in this regard, it is at the level of the Sony 50/1,2 GM, but the Nikkor S 50/1,2 begins to double in the corners. The cat eye effect is moderate. Sharpness with reserve for any real-life tasks. Purple fringing may be a problem, and there is a lot of CA in the blur zone - perhaps in this regard it will be inferior to other manufacturers. Well, it’s inferior in price.

    Must take

17 elements in 12 groups, boring wedding glass kmk
in the next iteration of fifty dollars, expect 20 elements in 15 groups in the gallery

    • Arkady Shapoval

I suppose that even for a million dollars you will not be able to distinguish 17/12 from 20/15

  • PavS

Interesting review, like all your notes, thank you.
And for what kind of photographic tasks was such a lens created (more precisely, for what kind of photo tasks were similar fifty-kopeck lenses with f/1.2 created)? This is the kind of photographic problem that can only be solved by a lens with f/1.2, while similar FR lenses with f/1.4 (not to mention lenses with f/1.8) cannot cope?
    Thank you.

    • Arkady Shapoval

This is an announcement, not a review. The problems are the same as for 1.4, or 1.6, or 1.8, but they are often solved better with 1.2. There are no fundamental tasks purely under 1.2 for the bzk.
Under the film and film, one could point out the impossibility of ISO maneuver, where every third of the step will be worth its weight in gold and removing it at 1/60s will be a blessing, where with 1.4 you will have to shoot at 1/40s and get, for example, blur.

      • PavS

        Thank you for the clarification.
And of course I made a mistake with the “review”; I meant the announcement)
