Comments: 24, on the topic: Announcement: Nikon Zf

  • Dmitry Kostin

Much cheaper than DF at the start, for which they asked $2750 for a bodysuit and $3000 for a kit with fifty dollars.
    It's just like the Z6, isn't it?

    • Dmitry Kostin

The price is interesting, but I can’t understand – what’s the catch?

      • Arkady Shapoval

DF had a top sensor from D4/D4s with cut off video, which is why it made noise less than four. And here is a “regular” 24MP BSI, but according to the idea there should have been a top-end stacked CMOS from Z9

    • Arkady Shapoval

I would say that the Df is a mixture of D4 and D600.
And Zf is a mixture of Z5 and Z6 II. That's why the price tag is lower.

  • Tserg

A 24MP sensor is moreover becoming the norm on many mirrorless cameras.
And from retro design, this is also for those who deserve such a style. The excessive number of rotators does not always lead to handiness))

    • Arkady Shapoval

stretches from the first A7 since 2013 (already 10 years)

  • Ivan_Io

The stabilizer was pumped, the speed was slightly increased (wrong with the shutter turned off). Well, the design, in my opinion, is so retrograde, I wouldn’t take it, it looks clumsy from the front.

    • Arkady Shapoval

and there are no retro optics, only 2 SE lenses for ZF

      • AnKo

Through the FTZ adapter, retro optics have been available since 1959;)

        • Arkady Shapoval

          a fortiori

    • Andrew

Due to the lack of uncompressed RAV, the frames per second were increased, it would have been better to leave the first one.

  • Vladyslav

All this is cool, of course, but I can hardly imagine it as a main camera, the grip is 100% uncomfortable, and it’s practically non-existent. So, a nice toy for the soul and only with compact optics, well, this is logical and let this be an option. But it would be better to update your Z5, Z6 and Z7 first.

    • Dmitry Kostin

The problem with the grip can be partly solved as soon as the L-plates (and cages) come out, which sometimes have a good additional grip.

      • Vladyslav

Yes, of course, I'm sure they won't keep you waiting for long, but they increase both the size and weight, and spoil the whole retro design, which is the main feature of this camera. Well, that's it

In terms of electronics and functionality, the camera is a significant step forward compared to the Z6II, but in design and execution it is actually a Zfc with a full-frame sensor.
Personally, the camera is of little interest to me, its ergonomics are too bad, especially with large lenses, and there are fewer controls than the same Z6II. But it allows you to peek at the functions that will appear in the Z6II a little later.
It’s good that high res mode has finally appeared, but it’s bad that the pictures will have to be stitched together on a computer and you won’t be able to do it without a tripod. Olympus and Panasonic have already shown that this is possible both when shooting handheld and directly in the camera.
It’s also nice that the branded additional handle has an Arca-Swiss mount - if I’m not mistaken, this is a first for Nikon. I would like to hope that such a mount will later appear on the feet of “large” lenses. It is high time.

    • Arkady Shapoval

And what is a significant step forward in electronics?

      • AnKo

zf has a newer and stronger processor (the same as in the z8/z9) to replace the dual one on the z6II/Z7II. The focus is on the speed and accuracy of autofocus.
        zf – higher ISO values
zf – I may significantly change the stabilization system of 8 stops from the equalized one with 5 stops on z6/z7
zf – has a special function (pixel shift - Pixel Shift), which improves the clarity of the output photo. In general, a single camera in a line of Nikon cameras has this function. I suspect that this function may soon appear on the z8/z9 but not on the z6/z7 due to a defective processor tension.
        zf – May 3D sweetening (3D Tracking). z6II/Z7II don't bother anyone.
zf – has a significantly sensitive autovoice system -10 to +19 EV in comparison with -4.5 to +19 EV on the z6II/Z7II, which allows zf to focus in much darker minds.

zf has more clear parameters for video.

I'll turn the rotating screen up. This gives the photographer more flexibility during the shooting process. The same goes for electronics.

You are not on a farm, stop using Surzhik here!!

  • Ivan_Io

What about the display, did they really make it rotary... then that’s a “+” for that.

  • Igor

I looked at the reviews. I’ll probably keep the Fujifilm X100V as a retro camera, but as the main one I’m thinking of changing the system and taking the Sony Alpha ILCE-7M4.

  • Bohdan

In terms of video, it’s already good, 10 bit per memory card is cool, another 60p per card, writing from any sensor, you could easily buy it for video

  • Pavlo

    I have a new dream!

  • Dmitriy

I have. I'm happy. I took 18-140, 40 se, 85 1.8, ftz for it, and the kit included 28 se.

  • sandro

I tried the Zfc version yesterday. The feel of the plastic is not a retro camera in the Nikon FM2 design, but something similar to younger plastic non-autofocus cameras like the Nikon FE10 or Minolta X-300.

I wonder if this one has a better design for 700 grams of carcass weight?
