Comments: 16, on the topic: Announcement: Nikon Nikkor Z 135mm 1: 1.8 S Plena

  • Rodion

In Russian, SR is a lens made of glass in which the refraction of blue is much greater than the refraction of red, that is, glass with a fairly high total and high partial dispersion. In general, glasses with high partial dispersion are special crowns, for example, among which are the well-known ED glasses, which have a low refractive index and low total dispersion. At the same time, there are heavy lenses (HF), which have high partial and total dispersion - it is often difficult to correct the chromaticity with them if positive lenses are made from HF. Since Nikon doesn't call SR as ED, it's likely that this element is made probably from TF type glass, but maybe with reduced overall dispersion. Another option: they called this heavy phosphate crowns, which do not match ED in terms of overall dispersion, but have a high partial dispersion and a much higher refractive index compared to ED glass.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Considering that some Tamron/Nikon lenses are made using the same optical design (most likely by the same manufacturer), and in their designations the same ED are called ED by some, not by others, or Super ED, etc. ., we can safely say that this is partly for the sake of beautiful multi-colored “lenses” in the scheme to create a halo of a special lens

      • Rodion

Are there any examples where one diagram was actually colored differently?

  • Tserg

16 lenses in the optical design. Isn't it rich? In the good old days, one-hundred-and-thirty-five-five watches were much simpler, lighter, and cheaper. There were at least six lenses and a watch in the range of 400-500g with a metal case. There is no need to talk about the diameter of the front lens (similar to the size of the filter) and the price.
I don’t think that in the post-Soviet space, and also on 2/3 of the land area of our planet, this lens will be popular, regardless of the presence of a powerful name))

    • Arkady Shapoval

and what was fundamentally lighter and from the same class 135/1.8?
Once upon a time we shot with triplet, you can always take Tair-3 with 3 lenses in 3 groups and tell everyone about it :)

    • Rodion

Arkady correctly mentioned Tair - the simplest possible long-focus anastigmata.
Do you want to give him an excellent CA correction? There will be a minimum of 5 lenses. Do you want a field? In the simplest case, 1 more lens will be added, but by today’s quality standards this is not enough, so 2-3 will be added. Do you want 1.8 aperture? I'll have to add more lenses, because Tair's f2.0 is getting worse. Finally, if you want AF, then you need 100% internal focusing, which means that you need a group of lenses, the movement of which will focus the lens without affecting the quality. And these lenses should be light and thin, not thick and heavy. So you will have 16 lenses)))

    • B. R. P.

It’s still not enough 16. About the “good old swimming clock” the hour has long been forgotten. There’s a simple connection – bigger = better (more megapixels, more lenses, more price).

      • Arkady Shapoval

and what's wrong with that? there is an alternative, smaller, lower, worse

    • Andy From Far Away

The beauty is that there is a choice. Here, for example, is an option with one lens for little money.

      • Andy From Far Away

        Adapter

      • Andy From Far Away

By the way, you can even use it as a tilt

      • Rodion

And for those who care about quality, we can release the 135/1.4 periscope!

  • Jea reth

So, okay, there’s a name, there’s aperture ratio. And that’s it, there won’t be any more jokes?

    • Andy From Far Away

Well, how can I say... there is one more minor detail that, considering the price, leaves a small residue... If you hold this lens in front of you in the way it is shown in the first photo above and rotate it 180° around its longitudinal axis, you will see the inscription “Made in Thailand”.

      • Andy From Far Away

And everything would be fine, but on the Canon RF 135mm F1.8 L IS USM in the same place and for a little cheaper, it says “Made in Japan”.
