Comments: 15, on the topic: Announcement: MEIKE 85mm 1:1.4 Auto Focus Lens FF STM

  • Ivan_Io

Judging by the diameter, his lordship will be uncompromising. But judging by the price, other effects are possible.

    • B. R. P.

The most common diameter. Other effects are more likely from the name of the “company”.

    • Andy From Far Away

Dimensions and weight are comparable to Sigma 50mm 1:1.4 DG (ART). The number of lenses and groups are also identical - both have 13 lenses in 8 groups. But the optical design of the device is still different, after all, Sigma’s MDF is 40 cm, while this one is meter.

  • i is glorious

The cheapest “mirrorless” lens with aperture 1,4 and autofocus.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Of course not, there are cheaper options for crop

      • i is glorious

Of course I forgot the word “full frame”

  • Andy From Far Away

The information is no longer new, but may still be interesting for someone.
Regarding the compatibility of this lens with Canon RF, in German forums, and not only in German, forum members assumed that this lens would be the first from a third-party manufacturer that would work with this system. The reason for these assumptions were hints from Meike that the lens would be compatible with the RF mount (here it should be added that Meike, in turn, did not specify the scope of compatibility).
But it was not there. This is what Canon Deutschland representatives responded to a request from Photografix-Magazin:

“We carefully study every request from the manufacturer. In this case, Canon did not grant Meike permission to manufacture and sell RF mount lenses.”

    • Arkady Shapoval

      First? What about Yongnuo 35mm 1: 2 DF DSM R и Yongnuo 85mm 1: 1.8 DF DSM R, released back in 2021

      • Andy From Far Away

They are not available for sale in Europe with this mount. You can buy on AliExpress with the risk of being detained at customs. Apparently, the Chinese have little interest in patent law (who would have thought..)
But what we have is the Viltrox AF 85 mm F/1.8 RF. At the request of the editors of the same Photografix-Magazin about whether Viltrox has a license, Canon never responded.

        • Arkady Shapoval

Does that somehow change the fact that they were the first? Or maybe Meike is not China?

          • Andy From Far Away

This confirms what I wrote above about the expectations of German forum members. Hope for an official third party lens for RF. Because what’s the point of ordering something in China if it’s confiscated at customs and sent in addition to a fine? And the point here is not that Meike is China... they are sold in Europe and all over the world under Sony. But they are not available in countries that comply with RF patent law. That's all I wanted and said.

            • Arkady Shapoval

Come on, for example, my friends come to Belgium with Chinese lenses without any problems at all. You're causing panic in vain

              • Andy From Far Away

What kind of panic? I’m not saying that you can’t order anything from China. You can easily order lenses and anything else directly from China. As long as the product does not infringe a patent or is otherwise prohibited in the EU. (for example, inflated concentrations of toxic substances or something else, something that is prohibited here, but not for them)
Therefore, your friends, like everyone else, can order certain glasses, which are cheaper in China. For example, those listed above with a Sony or even EF mount. But not RF. You can, of course, try and buy the latter in China, but then it may turn out that you pay for the lens twice (once to the Chinese and once to customs) and be left with nothing. That's all.

              • Arkady Shapoval

Why then do they also calmly come under RF? Common panic – not particularly justified and overblown

              • Andy From Far Away

I just said how things stand from the point of view of the EU law on the import of goods and possible risks. Possible seizure by customs and the lack of any service or guarantee for such things in the EU are very real things. Everyone decides the rest for themselves.
Moreover, if I am from Germany and click on your AliExpress links for the above listed glasses (RF), I only see the inscription “the product is not available in your region.” There are no problems with all other lenses - I can buy them.
Where is the panic here? General information and nothing more.
Yes, and initially we were talking only about official third-party manufacturers, it seems.
