Normally, Canon knows how to make money.
It seems that in a couple of years only they and Sony will live well on the market ...

and what, for Sony E / FE there is an analogue?

KMZ under M42 for the zenith will do)

        • Arkady Shapoval

          under the mirror m39

  • Novel

Canon (and almost everyone) got into a paradoxical situation. It is possible to produce EF models converted to RF, but no one will buy them - with the same characteristics, but at higher prices. Therefore, one has to invent something, but with the invention, the limits of improvement are practically reached, and further improvements are possible only by increasing the number of glasses, weight and dimensions.

It turned out well with the widths, because the huge segment disappeared and you can simplify the design of the lenses, getting something like 16 / 2.8 for a full frame. It turned out well with compact telephotos, matrix stabilization and improved ISOs allow, hence these previously impossible 7.1 and even 11.

But with the rest of the park it doesn’t work out very well, you have to squeeze out some features - somewhere they added a stub, somewhere blur control, 70-200 managed to be foldable, but in general, even the pros, having changed the camera, continue to stay on the old park glasses and are not particularly eager to buy new items. And all this against the backdrop of a drop in interest in the budget segment, the smartphone practically covers the whale 18-55 and is always with you.

For beginners, it is better to start acquaintance with photography from 18-135. And then you buy 18-55, and there is no zoom, no sharpness, no bokeh. Replaced with 24/2.8

      • Novel

18-55 is quite a normal zoom, covering both the portrait range and the wide angle (landscape), the latest Canon whales are very sharp and nimble. 24/2.8 lens for street art, rather, it is only a stop lighter, but its main advantage is its compactness. Although the latest 18-55, which starts with 4.0, has become even smaller. There is enough for learning photography, then the pictures get better and because the skills are growing, and not just from switching to new lenses.

        • Oleg

portrait at 5.6 is the most

          • Novel

If this is a work in a studio, then 24-105 covered up to 5.6 - 8 on a full frame, so that the whole image is sharp - quite a solution. Moreover, it should be a decent-sized studio in order to go beyond 85 mm. If this is an open space, then you can choose a background that will be blurred well at 5.6, just put the model accordingly. This is if a person wants to learn photography, and not blur harsh reality into trash with a big hole, spitting on sharpness and light (I’m generally silent about the plot). Look at what used to be called "portrait" by artists. Look at portrait photographs of officials - what's with the aperture?
