The respected Canon has gone with a much more economical and lightweight ideology by releasing the RF 600mm/11 IS STM and 800mm/11 IS STM compact series.
It is clear that Nikon created its newest super telephotos for the pros, and Canon for amateurs.
It would be interesting to compare the final pictures - is the game worth the candle?

The difference between f4 and f11 is 3 stops (2 stops if you count 840mm f5.6 with 800/f11 analog teleconverter enabled). With the same success, you can screw the mirror-meniscus ones, they generally cost a penny.
If we compare a reflex-lens telephoto lens with a classic one, then ZLO will have superiority in low chromatism (by 3 times, if the lens is not apo), but will be inferior in final resolution by 1,5 times.

Here is something else interesting. There is a classic Newton reflector 114/500 with aperture ratio of 4,38, the most affordable options for which cost less than $200. This would be really interesting to compare with.
