Zeiss Batis is Tamron

Many lenses from the line Zeiss Batis, if not all, are built on optical designs that have been calculated by the company Tamron.

All ZEISS Batis lenses

  1. ZEISS Distagon 2.8/18 T* (batis 2.8/18, 2016)
  2. ZEISS Distagon 2/25 T* (batis 2/25, 2015)
  3. ZEISS Distagon 2/40 CF T* (batis 2/40 CF, 2018)
  4. ZEISS Sonar 1.8/85 T* (batis 1.8/85, stabilizer, 2015)
  5. ZEISS APO Sonar 2.8/135 T* (batis 2.8/135, stabilizer, 2017)

Optical lens design ZEISS Distagon 2/40 CF T* (aka Batis 2/40 CF) and a circuit diagram drawing from Tamron's patent. Slight differences may be due to the position of the lenses at different focusing distances.

It has long been known that the names of modern lenses 'Distagon', 'Sonnar', 'Planar', 'Tessar' and others have no practical relation to the original optical designs 'Distaon' and 'Sonnar', etc. and are now just the brands 'Distagon', 'Sonnar' etc. under which certain Zeiss / Carl Zeiss lenses are produced.

Most likely models Batis 2 / 25 и Batis 2.8 / 135 also calculated by Tamron (Tamron has a scheme for a 135 / 2.8 lens with a stabilizer, but it differs from that used by Batis 2.8 / 135).

By the way, Tamron also sells its optical circuits for Nikon, for example, modern lenses Nikon Nikkor Z 17-28mm 1: 2.8  и Nikon Nikkor Z 28-75mm 1: 2.8 based on lenses Tamron 17-28mm F / 2.8 Di III RXD (Model A046) и Tamron 28-75mm F / 2.8 Di III RXD [Model A036]. In the past, Tamron has been seen in the design of many other Nikon F lenses (for example, Nikon ED AF Nikkor 70-300mm 1: 4-5.6D).

It is worth adding that Zeiss has not released announcements of its new products for a very long time. The latest lens announced by the company was Zeiss Otus 1.4/100 (aka Zeiss APO Sonnar 1.4/100 T*) for Nikon F and Canon EF SLR cameras introduced in April 2019 (almost 4 years ago). Most likely, the company has focused its attention on the production of 'expensive' cinema lenses, for example, such as ZEISS Supreme Prime Radiance and Zeiss Supreme Prime.

Yes, photo lenses Zeiss Alpha [2006-2016] were most likely produced by Sony under the control of Zeiss.

    Batis 25/2 and Tamron 24/2
There is a difference, but the relationship of these schemes is obvious.

What is the reason for the difference - of course, I do not know, but you can try to speculate.
      1) The angle of incidence of rays on the matrix depends on the shape of the rear lens.
      2) There is a set of filters of a certain thickness in front of the matrix, and it may differ from manufacturer to manufacturer.
      3) The last lens of Batis is an aspheric, and in the patent, perhaps an ordinary meniscus.

      thank you

The notorious Jun Hirakawa, who left Pentax, has been working at Tamron for 10 years already. Which of course gave the company additional points.
If this is Tamron, then where does the “unsurpassed micro-contrast of Zeiss optics” so beloved by connoisseurs come from? Or does everyone see what he wants to see?

Probably from the glass used, enlightenment, etc.
