About the development of new LZOS lenses presented at the Innoprom-2022 exhibition. Note by Rodion Eshmakov

Material according to these lenses especially for Radozhiva prepared Rodion Eshmakov.

In early July, the Lytkarinsky plant showed two new lenses at the Innoprom-2022 exhibition in Yekaterinburg - MC Rubinar 2/100 M and Tair-45 Bokeh Master 95/2.3. In this note, I want to tell the story of my interaction with LZOS, which remained behind the scenes of this event, but is directly related to these lenses.

On the eve of the new year 2021, LZOS showed the updated Rubinar mirror-lens lenses, and, thanks to the initiative of Arkady, already in January 2021, I was received at the factory, had a tour, including around the production premises, and was transferred to Rubinar 300 / 4.5 for a review and even arranged a meeting with designers to discuss promising projects for the production of photo optics.

I remember exactly that on that day my main achievement was literally preventing the resumption of production of the obsolete Industar-61 LZ MS in every sense, which sounds ridiculous, but then it was by no means illusory. At the same time, I first learned about the development of a portrait 100/2 lens - as you might guess, the same MC Rubinar 2/100 M.

During subsequent visits, I not only received the following "Rubinar» for a review, but also agreed to undergo an internship at the enterprise, since the chemical processes of glassmaking are my specialty.

And at the end of April, I was invited to a photo exhibition in Moscow, where, in addition to representatives of the LZOS already familiar to me, I encountered their doppelgangers from KMZ, who, to put it mildly, showed themselves both incompetent and not loyal, with the exception of Artyom Timirev, the designer of the mechanics of KMZ lenses, who was present. Impressed by what he saw was written note about the "homeland of elephants".

Russia is the birthplace of elephants. And "lenses for professionals" (C).

Russia is the birthplace of elephants. And "lenses for professionals" (C).

In the summer, during my internship, I had a lot of time for closer cooperation with LZOS JSC, during which I was engaged not only in the “chemical” task - the study of the production process of a special fluorophosphate crown OK-4, which has parameters very close to those of fluorite .

Firstly, during practice, I conducted tests and just shot for my pleasure on the lens Rubinar 500 / 5.6which left a very positive impression on me. His review is on Radozhiv. By the way, I managed to visit Arkady and old Soviet version of the lens.

Secondly, during the practice I managed to take part in the development of Rubinar 2/100. First, I got acquainted with its old prototype, the impressions of the use of which I outlined in article on Radozhiv. I can’t say that I really liked the idea of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbcolliding an old simple planar lens with modern autofocus Yong Nuo 100/2but there was no going back by that time. Unfortunately, in this lens it was impossible to realize any of my favorite "vignetting control", or anything else special. But I tried to write the terms of reference based on the experience with the prototype in order to level out the main drawbacks of the prototype and improve the strengths. It will be possible to find out how my wishes were taken into account when the lens falls into my hands.

But the most pleasant “discoveries” for me were obtained by accident. For example, in the LZOS Museum, I managed to find out that a pair of obscure 37 / 1.0 lenses - this is the work of this particular enterprise, and it is remembered there even now. And once in one of the premises of the plant, I recognized in one of the details among the heaps of rubbish something that is impossible to forget - a titanium lens shank Tair-62T 95 / 2.5, which I once had to cut for five hours with an engraver's carbide circle. It is difficult to say who was more surprised then - me (my find) or the employees of the plant accompanying me (my awareness).

Prototypes of MC Rubinar 2/100 M and Tair-45 Bokeh Master - MC Rubinar 2/100 and Tair-62T.

Although the peculiarities of using the Tair-62T lens “for its intended purpose” do not impress me very much, the photographs that were taken on it leave few people indifferent. And I was finally able to offer to do what I wanted for a long time - to make a tractor out of a tank. That is, to make a lens for peaceful purposes out of the military Tair-62T. It was thanks to the review of this lens that I wrote earlier that the proposal was immediately accepted, despite the designers twisting their fingers at the temple.

There was more room in the task of compiling the terms of reference for the Tair-62T conversion, since no design developments had been made before. During the development of the civilian version, the lens was upgraded in order to improve the image quality at the edge of the 36x24 frame by simply changing the position of the lenses. Also increased by almost a third of the step aperture lens - from F / 2.5 to F / 2.3. The remaining nuances will become clear after receiving a copy in hand for testing.

"Tair-45 Bokeh Master" at the exhibition "Innoprom-2022".

A separate story was with the preservation of the name of the lens - no one at the factory wanted "accidental" coincidences with the name of the "prototype". Fortunately, they managed to keep the beautiful name "Tair" - only the number was changed to the lens, modestly and not a bit ambiguously naming it in honor of the 45th department of LZOS, which deals with the calculation of optical instruments.

Proposal to release in addition to Tair-45 an updated film LZOS Tair-41 for some reason they rejected it - but such a slogan was ruined ... The inscription "Bokeh Master" on Tair-45 hurts my eyes, but, on the other hand, such names are quite popular with other manufacturers - these are Mitakon's "Speedmaster", "Freewalker", and more decent "Noctilux" from Leica.

Thus, an ordinary event - the announcement of some other manual lenses from the Russian Federation - became quite significant for me: after all, for the first time I managed to bring something from my alterations, my idea, to real production. It is also important that one of the new lenses was literally "pulled out of the bomb" - and the Tair-62T was turned into a peaceful "bokeh master". Of course, this does not “demilitarize” the entire LZOS, as many would like to do now, but it creates a certain precedent. And although the circumstances around are not very successful, I will continue to work with LZOS - and I will embody my other ideas in the serial “glass and metal”.

  • B. R. P.

Very interesting, Rodion, a really exciting story! Thank you and good luck.

  • Sergei

One fact is confusing. The original Tair-62T (judging by the review of Rodion) has too yellow glass. As far as I understand, no one has changed the brand of optical glass on Tair-45 (only the distance between the last optical components has changed).
I'm afraid that the novelty has inherited this yellowness.

  • Sergei

And I wonder why the aperture scale of the Tair-45 starts at 4 (and the passport aperture is 2,3). The impression that it is more than 4 does not open.

  • Andrei

Get to know a spivpratsi with a factory that manufactures products of a military brand that is cool.
    “Єtopolitіkіnaspossorіlі” - said the Russians.
Vpevneniy, that the share of lzos will be like that itself, like and zomz.

    • Call

Fool, writing in an invented language, you wrote your name in Russian. Above was "Andriy". =D
Well, clowns around kshn. This site is about photos, I don’t have the mind to talk on the topic - it’s better to be silent

      • Andrei

Garne Russian im'ya Call. Did they call you that to make you laugh? So the site is about photos, not about jokes.

      • Seladir

        >in a made-up language

Did they know Russian language in mines? Seriously though, the “righteous hatred of the race” can follow the ship with their own xenophobia and the utterly fascist “Russian world”.

    • Victor

      Get over yourself already, Andriy.

      • Andrei

Oooh, Vityunya. How are you there, do you straighten your back while sitting on the bottle? Marvel, otherwise there will be scoliosis, and we need you alive and well.

        • Victor

Yevgen Vaganych has been waiting for you with your dumb jokes, there you will be in demand. There is no.

          • Andrei

Have you bought the site from Arcadia and believe to whom de buti? If not, then shut up the pelka and sit down.

        • Victor

          You are defective.

Keep on joking, not realizing that people are not laughing at your jokes, but at you.

  • mr.swar

Andriy. From the text of the article there is a clear picture that Rodion is a student of the remaining course of the highest initial mortgage and having undergone an internship as a cim liter at LZOS. A student can be allowed to practice at a closed enterprise, or only for hromada products. I admit that, by adding to the new to the new LZOS spivrobitnik, it helped Rodion to take the fate of the Rubinar 2/100 retailer. Definitely vin having passed the practice for recommendations or having made contacts at LZOS, on the example of spivrobitnik in the museum. So just spend on practice at LZOS, it's unrealistic. That which you wrote, from one side you propied yourself, from the other side you can be not a foreign and not a vizdnoy person, as if to spare.

    • Andrei

The student "prevented" the release of industrial-61.
Well, obviously. So make students shy, if they get into practice, cool.

      • Arkady Shapoval

Well, I will say that Rodion really made a rustle there. He even Bogdankova convicted of “copying” Nikkorov.

        • Andrei

Have the Russians lied again? Yaka nepodіvanka.

          • JAJAJA

not too lazy to change the layout for the sake of i? or thiam is a special clave that has i?)))

  • Dmitry Kostin

And when will the Tair-45 go on sale and for what mounts will it be produced?

    • Rodion Eshmakov

The mount for both lenses will be M42, when exactly it goes on sale - it is not yet clear, pre-production samples have now been made to identify shortcomings. I'll get my hands on them soon. I also know that prices are expected to be significantly more adequate than KMZshnyh.

      • Dmitry Kostin

        Thank you!
I wanted to ask, do you plan to take Selena 1,9 / 58 for a test?

        • Rodion

Selena is KMZ. Have I not sufficiently characterized the attitude of KMZ to the photo community yet?

          • Dmitry Kostin

Enough, but there is some subjectivity (IMHO).
Those. as I understand it, the test of Selena 1,9 / 58 in Radozhiv can not be expected from you.

            • Rodion

There are practically no independent reviews of KMZ lenses on the Web, even paid videos are essentially non-existent. Although I met one, with their novelty, which is not even on sale yet - there were only 500 views.
I offered KMZ representatives my help in writing reviews on their lenses for Radozhiva a year ago at the exhibition in person, and Arkady and I wrote to them even by mail before even more than once. Nothing but silence was received in response. At the exhibition, they, responsible representatives, also deigned to express disdain for the proposal. This is the policy of the enterprise - you can compare their approach and the approach of LZOS.
On the other hand, if one of the readers of Radozhiva gives me the same Selena for review, I will be happy to test the lens and write an article.

              • Dmitry Kostin

OK. Thanks for the extended answer.
If I buy, I will give it to you for testing.

              • Dmitry Kostin

Apparently they are already normal and they do business in this way.
Perhaps this is due to a fat state customer.
If it were not for him, then the enterprise would probably no longer exist, but the capitalists, as usual, would be to blame, the collapse of the USSR, etc.

              • Arkady Shapoval

                Yes, creepy reviewers Yes
Boycott KMZ personally from me. I wrote about it in the comments and on the photoroom

  • Yegen

It was interesting to read, thanks. It is sad that there are so few comments under such labor. I look forward to reviews on these lenses.

  • JAJAJA

some nonsense was released. couldn't make 100 1.8? who needs f2 now. they are full. in short, China steers, and ours, like AvtoVAZ, are slowly stamping themselves with junk.

  • Dmitry

In my opinion, Arkady, who lost his home due to the Russian invasion, and who miraculously managed to save his family and take them abroad, it’s time to decide whether his website, and we, Ukrainian readers, need content from a terrorist country, reviews Soviet and post-Soviet optics from “good Russians”? In the end, the optics in the world has already advanced so much that even the Chinese have learned to make lenses with modern optical designs, with excellent enlightenment and optical quality acceptable for the mass market.

It is clear that most readers are happy, they are people of low income and respectable age, they use technology 10+ years ago, they consider Soviet optics as the only option available to their pocket. But Arkady, this is the road to nowhere. All over the world, photographic equipment is not a fetish, people change and update their equipment quite often, easily switch to bzk and other systems, and certainly do not fanate from LZOS optics dating back to the 1940s.

The site turns into a kind of photography cemetery, where people cherish old helios and jupiters on their ancient canons and nikons. Fuel is added to the fire by some reviewers and commentators from a neighboring state, from which it simply breathes hopeless poverty and in the comments slips longing for the scoop, curses towards the capitalists and the high cost of photographic equipment for the working people of all countries, as well as Russian chauvinism.

Isn't it time, taking into account so many civilian casualties from the war, to mentally break this connection and start reviewing exclusively modern systems, and not even look at what they made on lzos / heroos?

    • mr.swar

      Dmitry.
According to the first paragraph - you think like an American in the late 50s-mid 60s. How is it to buy photographic equipment from Japan? What kind of nonsense? Come on, ours, native, made on the mainland.
Photo equipment, electronics and automobiles have conquered the American market by 20-30% in 80-90 years.
The Chinese have not yet learned how to make lenses for a solid five, so let's say they do it for a four. Koreans have learned how to make optics for five with a minus.
Consumer optics hasn't moved forward much, something else has moved forward.

According to the second paragraph - A little different. The optical fetish rests on materials that you can feel (tactilely), evaluate for weight, quality of exterior finish, etc. How the lens is clamped, the presence of a retaining ring or rolling, this is a flight of engineering thought and limitations in technology, then production follows. To find out how it was done and what technologies were used, it was necessary to disassemble it.
The entire optical engineering thought of the USSR is based on copying and studying the documents of the Third Reich, many people with German roots passed on their knowledge in the 40-50s. Equipment from the Third Reich also played a big role in the development. The Americans did not help in this regard, with the exception of equipment that was supplied under lend-lease. Science and the defense industry of the USSR were tied together for decades, no one ever spoke for consumer products, with the exception of teams that lowered from above - NECESSARY. Among the party workers there were people who wanted to have something of their own from the USSR, so they tried to create, bring novelties from abroad and then copy them. It is difficult to convey this by writing a text, since there was a certain cult to bring samples of new products from a foreign trip that were not on the shelves of the USSR and try to start small-scale production, taking into account the available raw materials, materials, technologies and equipment. What worked, what didn't.
The modern fanaticism of the passion for optics from the USSR is associated with the appearance of some information on the Internet and the desire of a certain layer of people to buy something from the USSR that has metal instead of polymers, etc., and this is clearly not an updated Moskvich 2022.
When the Internet was not even visible on the horizon, but there was Skynet, fanatics bought something from the USSR for the sake of getting it into their own hands, after seeing that it was not of particular interest, they parted with it. Icons, paintings, gold, furs do not belong to this category.
Regarding the renewal of photographic equipment, raw materials are becoming more expensive all over the world, so it will not be necessary to rely on the renewal of photographic equipment in the future, prices will grow rapidly. Reducing the final cost will lead to the fact that the products will be disposable and not repairable.

According to the third paragraph - the site has its own niche and it is our native Ukrainian, and the fact that it provides information in an accessible way. Longing for the scoop, Russian chauvinism and other comments are on the conscience of the site owner, whether to delete or not, he decides.
Many do not know foreign languages, so even in Google search they cannot normally find the necessary sites.
You live in Mexico and know nothing but Spanish. There is information in Spanish, you know that there is optics from the USSR, there is no information in Spanish, so there is no optics from the USSR.

On the fourth paragraph - about lzos / heros, their song is sung, a matter of time (years). Watch a lot of videos about North Korea, I recommend. Tomorrow they will not live like this, but in the next decade such an option is possible. China will help them in everything and everything, they have very strong ties. But while they hold on, let's see what happens in the fall. It is very difficult to break the connection, remember the first two Ukrainian presidents and 10 years, it was very difficult to break the connection, all our production worked for them. But even taking this into account, the business relationship was so strong that even after another 10 years (20 years in total) we could not part. Maybe after another 10 years (total 30 years) something will change, we'll see.

Speaking of new lenses. A review of the not yet released Helios 75mm f / 1,4 for the E mount (FE) caught my eye:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZx3HSVko-8

Can you say a few words about him? The most interesting thing is why the mount is mirrorless. It seemed to me that a six-lens planar with a 75mm focal length by default should have a large rear segment.

    • Rodion

Vidos for 500 views. He also reviewed Russar (Arkady threw the link above). Actually, that's why they abandoned my reviews a little over a year ago.

I have nothing to do with this lens, just like with other KMZ lenses. I don't even know who exactly counted it. Perhaps also Vladimir Bogdankov, but he was not mentioned among the lenses he designed in an interview.
I think that the segment there may be sufficient, but in the M42 they could not fit in the dimensions of the rear lens, for example. But this is the logical version for me. And the most likely version, taking into account the logic of the thugs from KMZ, was stupidly scored and made under the BZK, because it’s easier and it fits into their “line” of lenses (Zenitars 20, 35, 50, 75) under Sony E.
Of course, this lens may turn out to be better than the G-40 (optically, almost anything is better than the G-40), but in general, this “optics for professionals” in reality, taking into account the KMZ pricing policy, is an optic for the most devoted fans of Zenit ”, from the same category as the modern “primoplanes” of the modern “meer”. A fundamentally new experience in comparison with the G-40 can hardly be expected from this product.

      • i is glorious

        Thank you.
I also thought about the 20-35-50-75 line, but the appearance of Tair with the M42 raised a question.

As for the diameter of the last lens - because if you "cut" it, then the swirling effect of the bokeh will increase - you often did this with an additional aperture. And the twists were just what the developers wanted.

        • i is glorious

Well, they are different manufacturers! Sorry, didn't see the elephant. Clearly.

        • Rodion

If you cut the rear lens haphazardly, then there will be a loss of aperture.
