Nikon D4

Nikon D4

I worked with the Nikon D4 camera for a month and took over 10.000 shots with it. The D4 was mainly used to create lens reviews, several times I took it to the difficult combat conditions of real shooting. In the following reviews you can find many sample photos from Nikon D4 (RAW + JPEG):

  1. Tamron SP 70-200mm F / 2.8 Di VC USD G2 A025
  2. Sigma 12-24mm 1: 4 DG A
  3. Tele-Takumar 1: 6.3 / 300 Asahi Opt. Co.,
  4. SMC TAKUMAR 1: 1.8 / 55 ASAHI OPT. CO., JAPAN.
  5. SMC PENTAX 1: 1.4 / 50 ASAHI OPT. CO., JAPAN
  6. Nippon Kogaku Japan NIKKOR-UD Auto 1: 3.5 f = 20mm
  7. Nikon ED AF Micro Nikkor 200mm 1: 4D
  8. real shooting in difficult conditions paired with Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1: 1.8G SWM Aspherical

Nikon D4 left only positive impressions. This is a great tool in the hands of a photographer.

Nikon D4 is already completed line of professional top digital SLR cameras from Nikon:

  • D1 -> D1h -> D2h -> D2hs -> D3 -> D3s -> D4 -> D4s -> D5 -> D6, this line is conditionally referred to as reportage. Subsequently replaced by Nikon z9
  • D1x -> D2x -> D2xs -> D3x, this line is conditionally referred to as a studio line. Subsequently replaced/abolished Nikon D800 (justification of this concept here)

From a certain time, approximately after the announcement of Nikon D3 / D3s, I have been watching Nikon cameras reach a certain plateau of their capabilities, after which the rapid development in the quality of the created image and various functionality has slowed down greatly. This topic I develop here.

If each subsequent series of chambers D1/D1h -> D2h/D2hs -> D3/D3s (and D1x -> D2x/D2xs -> D3x) had enormous differences among themselves, then the differences between D3s and D4 are not so cardinal. First of all, I want to note that when moving from Nikon D3s The Nikon D4 did not see a significant increase in image quality, especially when working at high ISO values. And separately I want to note that Nikon D4 uses a modified focus module from Nikon D3s. In real shooting conditions focus modules Nikon D3 / D3s and Nikon D4 / D4s behave very similarly. And the camera sensor and focus module are one of the most important components of any digital SLR camera.

The Nikon D4 sensor is just great, in the future, with some reservations, it was used by Nikon D4s and Nikon Df. Even by modern standards, at the heart of the Nikon D4 is a very productive full frame matrix Nikon NC81366W at 16 MP. By the way, the difference between 16 MP for Nikon D4/D4s/Df and 12 MP for Nikon D3/D3s/D700/D300s/D300/D90/D5000 is not felt well (reasons described here).

Nikon D4 can be safely searched for in the secondary market and used for its intended purpose. The camera was introduced in early 2012 and is now of considerable age. If we discard some minor flaws, or far-fetched tales from the Internet, then the Nikon D4 has no significant problems and can work like clockwork for a very long time. Many of my colleagues still use Nikon D4/D4s. True, the mirrorless segment makes many think about the relevance of mirrored 'ones'.

I completely agree with the phrase “True, the mirrorless segment makes many people think about the relevance of mirrored 'ones'”, I took it straight off the tongue👍🏻

    • Basil

Yes, quite expected phrase. Because there is always a category of people, for some reason, advocating a single organized transition of everyone to a new generation of technology.

      • Linar

At one time (before the appearance of the Z series), I directly dreamed of Nikon's singles. Then I just fell in love with these devices, I liked the dimensions (double handle), reliability and rate of fire, and tenacious, fast autofocus, the points of which almost completely covered the entire area of \u6b\u6bthe matrix. Then I could just dream about them, their prices were exorbitant for me. Time passed, since some time I realized that I could afford a device of this level in terms of finances, but that’s not the task ... Nikon’s mirrorless segment appears. My eyes then fell on the Z100. My preferences have shifted in the direction of mirrorless. Judge for yourself why I now need a huge brick, which in many respects is inferior to the light and compact, multitasking Z9, this is 8% obvious. Yes, the Z12 has appeared, but its capabilities are already redundant for me, with its 6k video. XNUMX frames of rate of fire is enough for the eyes, I just keep quiet about autofocus with eye detection. After all, he (zXNUMX) is cheaper.

  • Dmitriy

    Old but not useless

    • Lukas

🤣... the old horse does not spoil the furrow! I like the d4 better than the z6...have both cameras

  • Igor

Arkady, is there a comparison between this monster and z6 ll? Or just z9?

    • Arkady Shapoval

Different lines, different periods, different class (bzk and zk). It is possible to speak only about some separately taken possibilities. If you want a new camera, then in general the BZK is more interesting

  • Avvakumov

After D3x, I switched to D4 + D800s. It is difficult to combine reportage and artistic photography in the camera. In terms of colors, D4 and D3x lose to D800s (but not D800). For reporting, the D4 is simply bombastic, the gain of other cameras in the reporting line in front of it is no longer so significant.
But just don't like that the second card is XQD. It only has advantages on video, but the price is exorbitant. The toad presses to buy, so I shoot with one card.
I don't even plan to switch to the BZK. Not everything is so smooth in the report

  • Vladimir

Finally !!! I'm already tired of waiting. The main thing is that d4 appears in the reviews, but there is no full-fledged essay! Thank you very much, Arkady!

  • Kravchenko Volodymyr

Arkady, you are handsome, even after I quit professional photography, you continue to do this, that's what it means - a person has found himself. I come in occasionally to look at new clothes, I like your objectivity and brevity, I learned a lot from you, I continue to photograph my subject and family. I read 80% of your articles for 2015, I understood all the technical, practical and theoretical part thanks to you) I always advised all my acquaintances to photographers. Thank you for continuing to post :)

  • Dmitriy

    I shoot on D4 and Z6II

Essentially, the UPC merges only in continuous shooting. High ISO performance and AF accuracy in the dark at Z are very impressive, even after D4. In general, Z is strong precisely in automation - auto BB, autofocus, auto ISO, etc. - the percentage of errors is very small, so much so that sometimes it’s even uninteresting to shoot :)

D4 is more pleasant in the hand, and I like the picture from F-lenses more - for example, from 105 1.4, which simply has no analogues on the UPC (not through FTZ).

Z I take on trips light, but in general I prefer D4.

    • Nicholas

“I like the picture from F-lenses more ... through FTZ is not right”
      - interesting. Can you elaborate on these two points?

    • Lukas

One hundred% agree …d4 for the pleasure of the process, it’s straight ..z6 for me only when I take the dimensions for scrap with me ! In d4, the picture is nicer, nevertheless .. I like to finish imperfect things on my own) with d4 it's easy

  • Pawel

Here are some surprising phrases like the Z-series is strong with autofocus, auto ISO, auto BB. I shot in RAW on many Nikons, to be honest: I didn’t experience any problems with automation anywhere. There are always blurs, somewhere the focus was focused in the wrong place, but I don’t remember that problematic automation. Nikon has been marking time since 1999 in this direction, I hope that the Z-series will make a breakthrough in photography in the future, but so far it is not visible. I don’t beg new achievements at all, and when the boom of cheap mirrorless cameras starts, as it once happened with a mirror, I will definitely buy

  • Mihailo

It is welcome to speak to your side. Having shown my friend already from 12 years and all the stats, they have already been described as well, having reread them 2_3 times. d1 in leather carcass I’m working on my own, I’m able to do it for a while. Working at once with a full frame ”without dropping Nikon d300, this model is capable of large pixels creating an image and a short streak - 700/1, which is necessary when the skin is frozen. -inzhenerіv tse contribution to the history of the creation of photographs that inspire us in the new world of today.

  • Zheka

A very boring, uninteresting picture from him, as if they were filmed on an iPhone. Or the author failed to reveal the potential of this camera in his review. As for the purchase, it’s better to buy a new camera, take two or three thousand shots, and until the warranty runs out, sell it if something new comes out. These same cameras age, lose even more value, and if something breaks in them, they cannot be repaired.

    • Victor

      >> it's better to buy a new camera, take two or three thousand shots, and until the warranty is over, sell it if something new comes out

Having lost at least 30 percent in price))) Excellent business plan)))

Just having bought an old camera, you can sell it without losing anything. If of course there is a desire, sell))

      • Zheka

You may have discounted by 30%, but in fact, it is discounted somewhere around 100-200 € and they fly away well - one owner, one hand, low mileage, guarantee. But this d4 is already a brick, if you buy it for 100 euros, and with the expectation that this money is a net minus. I saw, they sold d4 in the summer, the mileage was about 60 thousand frames, they wanted 1000 €, so no one bought) )

        • Victor

I doubt. And this applies not only to the initial models, on which they drop just 30% no less, but also to a completely near-top level.

Let's take d850, the official price is 210k, I go to Avito - 165k, the camera is six months old (guarantee of course), mileage is 2500))) Consider it new, immediately -45k, 20% light.

But having bought a used d4 for 1000 euros, you can sell it for the same 1000 euros, even if for 800, the losses will still be much less)))

          • Zheka

D4 has a chance not to be sold at all, d3x with 3 lenses was sold, zoom sigma, 50 / 1.8, 24 width old nikkor, they also wanted 1000 for some reason, left for 300 and a person sold it for a year and a half (!) Years. There is no magic in these cameras, except for c5, c3pro, but there are dying batteries, for example, peeling rubber bands, especially on nikons. I resold it myself and bought a bunch of all kinds of equipment, there was also d2, d3, d4 (they gave it for a while).

            • Victor

              So so ... Let's estimate ... 300 euros is 26k rubles for a minute.
24 width, let it be 5k (I didn’t even see the eared ones cheaper), 50 1.8 even a dash, well, let it be at a minimum - 3k, what kind of zoom sigma xs, well, let it be 3k too, as the cheapest - you want to say that a person barely sold the spirit for 15k rubles?)) By the price for which the first nickels scatter like pies?))) Something is wrong in this story)

              • Zheka

                Well well,

            • Avvakumov

I sold my D3x for 1100, without glasses, with one battery, in 2 weeks. Batteries live for a long time, I still have the D50 lying around, it is more than 15 years old, the battery is quite working. Yes, and repacking the battery is elementary, 3 cans (for D4) for 170 UAH. Rubber bands are of course expensive, from 50 bucks per set

    • Trueash

Boring pictures are made by boring photographers.
      https://youtu.be/vIoNFi8_AjA

      • Artem

It’s unpleasant to watch when a good photographer gets in the way of a camera)
The video has pictures with an excellent design and unpleasant quality. But this is all for an amateur, of course.
It is not the photographer and not the camera that shoots, but they are together)

    • Avvakumov

Everything is refurbished. 200 bucks to replace the shutter, another 50 rubber bands (if you ran a lot) and the device is like new

  • koba

For most users, such cameras were not available when they cost $5000, and when they can be bought for $1000-1200, then you can try. By the way, D3s already cost about $800 or even less…

    • Arkady Shapoval

But light mirrorless mirrors captivate with their lightness

  • Michael

Bought in 2018 through a flea market in Japan. Works like a clock. 2022 The machine is perfect. Mirrorless??? Well, if only there was money. As an option, only Z9. After the units, the rest of the small fry is not even discussed. And in general ... I shot only with Nikon: D200 ... D700 ... D4 - ideally with an increase in classiness. Everyone is happy.

  • Michael

How are the flowers? Will it be better than d700? I watched the wedding completely filmed on d4. So there, or in a jeep, the photographer shot everything, the colors were strongly yellowed and some kind of withered, or processed strangely. Let's say the d750 is definitely worse for me in color. Has anyone compared?

    • Avvakumov

The wedding of Saprg should be filmed as the fifth! D4 camera for paparazzi and sports reporting. Potential for speed and shooting in poor lighting conditions.
D750 does not shine with flowers either. Actually, the D700 is already draining the crop today. Nikon's good colors start with the D800e

      • Alexey

About the d700 - I’m shooting 99% of commerce on it now and everyone is happy.
the statement that he merges the crop is very doubtful - it is true only about video and autofocus.
The d700 has a wonderful color, good work in complex light and color (fucking lights on event sites and LED lights), excellent reliability and predictability of the result.
At its minimum price (now in February 2022), a d700 in excellent condition will cost 40-50k - and you can meet 100k in a camera / light staffer / flash-sync kit. By modern standards, this is very budgetary and you can shoot 9/10 content on photo topics.
If possible (I would like to avoid just sracha) what kind of crop were you talking about and what exactly are you comparing with?

    • Dmitry Kostin

How to screw it will be.
You can put a color profile similar to 5Dmk2. NEFs “blush” and the picture becomes a little different. The AF module in the D4 is still great. I'm looking at Z6mk2 or at R5, but almost all the optics will have to be handed over to Avito. Sorry. While it shoots and pleases, I will not sell.
Chinese batteries are also good - I bought several different ones. Feels just as good as the original ones.

  • Avvakumov

    And alive!

  • Vladimir Pitersky

For a long time, the D4 served me faithfully.
The camera is versatile and reliable.
Now I'm shooting on the D5-progress is clear.
As for mirrorless cameras, I’m not sure how they will not fail in difficult conditions (frost, humidity, dust).

    • Ivan

I would like to understand how the presence of a mirror unit in the camera provides additional protection from frost, humidity and dust?

      • Avvakumov

UPC, eat much more current. In the cold, when the batteries lose 50-60% of their capacity, this is already critical
The UPC matrix, located very close to the mount, is not covered by a mirror and will catch more dust when changing optics

        • Ivan

          "Iron" arguments!

        • Joe

You use very vague concepts like “they consume a lot more current” without referring to specific measurement results, or you refer to the loss of battery capacity “in the cold”, by which a resident of Krasnodar can mean -5 ° C, and a resident of Anadyr -50 ° C (and battery performance at -5 ° C and -50 ° C will be very different), and in addition, you also do not take into account some technical nuances, the simplest example is that for Canon EOS R, when the camera is turned off, the sensor is completely closed by the shutter, which prevents dust from entering when changing lenses, unlike SLR cameras, where “protection” from a mirror is very conditional. At the same time, dust protection is largely determined not by the presence or absence of a mirror (even among different SLR cameras, dust appears on the sensor at different intervals under the same operating conditions), but by the presence of an automatic sensor cleaning system, the quality of the housing, the number and type of sealing elements that prevent ingress of dust through the gaps of the housing structure.
Therefore, your arguments do not look convincing enough.

          • Victor

Frankly, when you say that “only a mirror protects against dust,” you are wrong, because the shutter at the central control valve is closed when not in working condition.
As for batteries, if you think about why this happens - UPCs live less in the cold - everything becomes obvious. But for this, one must at least approximately understand what happens to a lithium element at low temperatures.

            • Joe

              > the shutter at the CZK is closed in the non-working state
              I agree.
At the same time, dust on the sensor still quickly appears on SLR cameras if there is no automatic sensor cleaning system, and this dust is not observed on both SLR and mirrorless cameras when there is an automatic sensor cleaning system.
In general, the role of the mirror in protecting against dust is so doubtful that its presence is hardly worth taking into account at all.

              > As for batteries, if you think about why this happens - UPCs live less in the cold - everything becomes obvious. But for this, one must at least approximately understand what happens to a lithium element at low temperatures.

For early generations of digital SLR cameras, such as the Canon EOS 5D, the specifications indicated that battery life would decrease significantly as temperatures dropped: at 20°C approx. 800 shots, at 0°C approx. 400 frames.
For later models of both DSLR and mirrorless cameras, there is no longer such a significant change in battery life, for example, Canon EOS 5D mk4: approx. 900 shots at 23°C, approx. 850 at 0°C; Canon EOS R: Approx. 370 shots at 23°C, approx. 350 shots at 0°C.
In all cases, lithium-ion batteries are used, only for the 5D the battery life is halved for a temperature drop of 20 degrees, and for later cameras, the battery life is reduced by about 6% for a temperature drop of 23 degrees.
And if you can explain this significant difference in resource change with decreasing temperature between different generations of batteries and cameras, I will read your comment with great interest, because an approximate understanding was not enough for me.

              • Avvakumov

Regarding the shutter on the BZK. This inconvenient need to turn off the camera when changing optics is far from always remembered.

Regarding batteries. There is no trust in the statements of the camera manufacturer. He will always turn the arrows to the manufacturers of cans.
And the calculation method is unknown. It's one thing to take the camera out of the heat and shoot in 30-40 minutes. Another, after 2-4 hours of freezing, start shooting.
I have been using lithium batteries of different manufacturers and different technologies for a long time. Not only in cameras, but also in flashlights, tools, electric vehicles. I don't see much variation in hardiness. For everyone, the estimate “loss of 10% of capacity, for every 10 degrees below +20” is suitable. Miracles do not happen. At -50, maybe D4 and will shoot only if the battery is kept in a warm pocket. Lithium batteries do not like frost. At -30 it is already worth choosing NK batteries or alkaline batteries. That's what battery grips are for.

              • Human

There is an assumption that this depends on the thermal conductivity of the material from which the camera is made and on the presence of plastic and air gaps in the battery compartment. To whom the cold reaches faster, he will remove less.

              • Victor

Everything is quite elementary - when the temperature drops, the battery loses its ability to deliver the required current for a long time. At the same time, while maintaining the possibility (not completely, of course) of short-term current transfer. The CZK in standby mode consumes much less energy than the UPC, which is forced to constantly drive the sensor, display and other processors in working condition, while the CZK spends energy only to maintain ...

              • Victor

... the work of the exposure metering module and so on, little things. As a result, despite the fact that at the moment the shutter is released, the CZK spends more energy than the UPC, but this consumption occurs within a fairly short period of time, and the battery simply does not have time to “give up”.

              • Victor

2Avakumov: probably yes, at extremely low temperatures it is worth resorting to using either another type of chemistry, or having a supply of batteries, warming up periodically in a warm place. However, they are cooled (with the chamber already cooled down) rather quickly.

          • Ivan

Avvakumov confuses the concepts of "reliability" and "power consumption". And his reasoning about the greater current consumption is generally meaningless. The current consumption is almost the same. The operating time of a camera with a large current consumption in the UPC is slightly higher, but not the current strength. And the batteries in the ZK and in the UPC do not fundamentally differ and behave the same in cold weather. Again, this has nothing to do with the reliability of the camera.

      • Vladimir Pitersky

Ivan, what are you shooting with?

        • Ivan

Why this question? Protection of cameras from external influences is provided in other ways, and not by the presence or absence of a mirror.

  • Andrew

I'm already "under 60". I am a amateur photographer. Over the years, I have shot many Nikons (accidentally fell into this religion in my youth) Now - D4, D600, 1 V2. Each one has advantages and disadvantages. The D4 has only drawbacks - weight, dimensions and attracting the attention of others. Of the benefits - fantastic ease of use. Completely predictable result. What you want is what you get. If it didn’t work out, it’s the fault of crooked hands and flawed brains, and not the fault of the camera. Great clean picture. How much health is enough, so much and I will carry this brick.

  • Vladimir Pitersky

Ivan, you didn’t answer the question, so you didn’t shoot on D4.
This device survives at -50 and +50, in a downpour and sandy wind, when falling. Batteries are MEGA-eternal .. if you are not a machine gunner. D4 is heavy, so this is also a plus - you can warm up an impudent cameraman if the view is blocked. Mirrorless alternative?

    • Joe

Please tell us about your experience of shooting at -50°C, where and for how long you were at this temperature, how many shots you managed to take on a single battery charge and in what shooting mode, with what lenses the camera was used in such conditions.
I hope that you will also show the photos taken at -50 ° C.

    • Ivan

Vladimir, I repaired them and I know them from the inside. I worked for Nikon. If you are comparing a professional reportage camera D4, then you need to compare it with a BZK classmate. There is currently only one such camera - Z9. Here is a link from the site, go to the items "Strong", "Reliable" (https://www.nikon.ru/ru_RU/product/digital-cameras/mirrorless/professional/z-9).

Find at least one argument that it lacks protection from frost, humidity and dust.

    • Ivan

      From the D4 spec:

    • Ivan

      From the Z9 spec:

  • Vladimir Pitersky

Ivan a friend is now shooting on Z9 (by the way, there are only a few happy owners in Russia so far), I agree, this is a WORTHY REPLACEMENT! This is really a competitor to the mirror D4,5,6
Joe all the arguments given are rants. You are not the owner of Nikon D4 either. Most likely, you didn’t even hold a “brick” in your hands. A lot affects the battery charge .. even GPS, oddly enough, the module))) or how often you look at the screen. It's easier to put a pocket of a couple of spare Akum and flash drives.
If you want to check in the cold, come to Yamal with a suitcase of lenses and a timer)))
May luck and patience be with you.
In conclusion, and to the topic. Nikon D4 is an excellent camera in capable hands and does an excellent job with many tasks, I think that it will be relevant in the next three years.

    • Ivan

I am not the owner of D4, but of course I held it in my hands. And repaired. And not only Nikon, but many others. And the professional Canon dismantled, which was in an underwater box, and into which sea water flowed. It was not about energy saving, but about how the camera is protected from external influences. And the presence (absence) of a mirror has nothing to do with it. I was all over the Tyumen region, and if we consider Novy Urengoy the southern part of Yamal, then in Yamal. Filmed in cold weather with amateur cameras without consequences. Here is a description of the features of filming in the cold: http://www.foto-video.ru/fv-presentation/a-liskin/40104/

    • Joe

Vova, have you ever held a book about Russian speech etiquette in your hands?
If so, why didn’t they learn to address interlocutors in accordance with the norms generally accepted for more than a hundred years?
I asked you specific questions, whether you used the camera in certain conditions.
Not some “ranting” like yours, but quite understandable questions.
In response - slurred conversations off topic.
If you really had something to tell about the camera and show from the photo, this is one thing.
And to surprise someone in 2022 with pathetic speeches about the fact that you were lucky enough to hold an old Nikon D4 in your hands is not even funny, it's sad.

  • VladimirPetersky

Joe is what? he? she? .. IT))) if about etiquette. TOPIC D4!!!
Again, did you shoot with this device?
Here the opinion of owners and specialists is discussed.
If IT shoots with Canon and mirrorless cameras, then let IT continue to shoot ...
I have more than 30 years of experience in photography and a well-deserved reputation. And I know what I want from technology. In crooked hands, no camera will save.
The pro does not feel sad and does not laugh, the pro takes and shoots. Techniques of the class of units are mainly possessed by high-class specialists, and for publications on Instagram and an iPhone, it’s enough for the eyes ..
If it's sad, then I can say about the D3 - the camera is excellent!
In the future, I’ll most likely switch to the Z9, while the model has not yet been tested, and I must be sure for which I will pay a lot of money (certainly not for show-offs). Now I’m shooting on the D5 and I see the pros and difference with the D4.

And what was so striking about D5 compared to D4? D3s, for example, pleased me after D3, and D4 after D3s (AF tenacity, color reproduction and BB are even a little better). But not only personal impressions, but also from tests like DXO, and from photo reviews, you intuitively understand that D4 is better. D5 is not intrigued by tests and photos (I am not the owner, but I looked closely) and they ask for almost 2.5 times more money for it

Come on Vladimir, do not boil. This is quite typical when the owner of an entry-level device, in order not to feel inferior, tries to look like an “expert”

Good afternoon. Is it worth buying a D4 for a 50-150 mm 1: 2,8 APO DC HSM lens. My main type of photography is sports. Thank you in advance.

    • Arkady Shapoval

50-150 is a crop lens, and d4 is a full frame.

      • Joyful

Yes. And so, is it possible to combine to get the result?
        Thank you very much.

        • B. R. P.

It is possible, but not necessary. 50-150 for sports slow. If it's not chess.

        • Arkady Shapoval

yes you can, but what's the point?

  • Nicholas

I have Nikon 850 and D4. in the hands of the Z6 held only. I think it belongs to the line. the socket does not leave any confidence in the work. feeling of a disposable Chinese car industry. it's important for me

And how does the Nikon sensor feel, unlike Sony in colors? If they still knew how to make good sensors, why don't they do it themselves?

    • Arkady Shapoval

Not beneficial. D4-D5-D6 balanced in color, but the same modern Sonya, like a7m3, I like more

Good evening! Is it possible to find out the opinion of Arkady and other photographers about the relevance of Nikon D4 at the present time. If we consider Nikon D4 (used version, with low mileage (85t.k), in good external condition) and Nikon D810 (new - according to the seller) - what to prefer in the choice (when switching to FF). In terms of operation - shooting landscapes, nature and people against the backdrop of nature, with the intention of expanding the existing fleet of lenses.
Looking through English-language videos on YouTube - even at the present time there are positive reviews about the D4, about the excellent color reproduction of this camera and, of course, about its reliability. But when visually viewing photos on the public part of the Internet, I prefer photos from the D810 ... There are also interesting ones from the D4, but why only photos on covered apertures, in my subjective opinion.
Of course, much in the photographs viewed depends on the lenses used with a particular camera, but still - what is your opinion? Share your opinion, maybe there are owners of both cameras, or they were previously in use at some time. Thank you!

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Reporting - d4. Everything else is d810.

    • Nick

If you need shooting speed, a reliable battery, difficult conditions (for example, all sorts of events, festivals, stage concerts), then D4 will definitely be better.
If you are not in a hurry, where you need high resolution, large DD (travel, museums, flowers), then d800.
I use D3s in some conditions, I get excellent pictures even at ISO 13000, but there aren’t enough megapixels for cropping photos. I’m thinking of taking the D4, but there is also the D4s, judging by the dxo, the difference between the cameras is very small.
      At the moment, a d3s with a mileage of 250t costs 55-65t and a d4 with a similar mileage costs 65-75t. And a d4s is already 95t.
But since the D810 has 36MP, it will be more demanding on optics.
