SMC PENTAX 1: 1.4 / 50 ASAHI OPT. CO., JAPAN. increase.

In short

SMC PENTAX 1: 1.4 / 50 ASAHI OPT. CO., JAPAN is a good manual high-aperture fifty-kopeck piece. There is a whole family of such lenses, in which there are approximately 8-9 basic models. I already had an older version on my review SMC TAKUMAR 1: 1.4/50 ASAHI OPT. CO., JAPAN., on the basis of which the lens from this review was made.

This SMC PENTAX 1: 1.4 / 50 ASAHI OPT. CO., JAPAN is the first Pentax class 50 / 1.4 lens to receive the Pentax K mount. Prior to that, all ASAHI OPT lenses. CO., JAPAN class 50 / 1.4 used the common M42x1 / 45.5 landing thread.

All lenses of this family (except for the first and the last) use the same optical scheme of 7 elements in 6 groups (classic planar scheme [Planar]). The first was'Planar killer'and used an advanced scheme for those times 8/6 (difference between 7/6 and 8/6), and last - super-modern circuit 15/9!.

Personally, I am a great connoisseur and fan of old Pentax optics (aka ASAHI OPT. CO.), After working with which pleasant emotions always remain. This SMC PENTAX 1: 1.4 / 50 ASAHI OPT. CO., JAPAN belongs to one of the first lines of lenses with Pentax K mount. Usually this line is called so - 'Pentax K'(by analogy with Pentax' M ',' A ',' F ',' FA ',' DFA '). Also, this is the first lens in the '50 /1.4 'family to use the name'PENTAX', before this modification all solutions from the '50 /1.4' line had the name 'TAKUMAR'.

In parallel with the line of the best solutions of the 50 / 1.4 class, the line of Pentax / Takumar lenses of the class 50 / 1.7, 50 / 1.8, 50/2, 55 / 1.8 and 55/2 developed.

It's important: This lens does not suffer from lens coating degradation. For example older versions like Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR 1: 1.4 / 50 ASAHI OPT. CO., JAPANsuffered from severe degradation of enlightenment.

I recently bought such a lens in Japan for $75, it’s in almost new condition, despite its age. No matter how much I hoped, the rear element still turned out to contain thorium and phonite (radioactive). A lot has been written on this subject, but it is also contradictory. By the way, all of Arkady’s comments about the degradation (yellowness) of the rear lens on many Pentax Takumars are related precisely to the effects of radiation. It is treated with ultraviolet light, several days in active sun or a lamp. The radiation level increases when the dosimeter directly touches the rear lens, but from the side, in front and 5 cm behind there is almost a natural background. Experts say that there is no particular danger if you do not constantly put glass under the pillow)) You cannot damage the glass, thorium is not in the coating, but in the glass itself.
I'm waiting for an adapter for Sony and will try it.

    • B. R. P.

Indeed, a lot has been written about radioactivity. This is clearly demonstrated by the number of paranoids in this topic.

      • Alex

How many paranoids are there in this topic, I wonder? And did anyone say that this is deadly? A level several times higher than the background is a reason for at least caution. Tales about the dose during an airplane flight and dental x-rays can be omitted immediately. People use such lenses, I will use them, but store them accordingly, and don’t wear them in pants, and don’t put them under the pillow... that’s all.

        • B. R. P.

          Congratulations, you are in tsa.

          • Alex

Yes, thank you) But I don’t speak bird language, sorry

  • Alex

I really liked the ancient Pentax ones. The build quality is fantastic, you want to hold it in your hands and turn everything) I liked the picture, even when open.
