I purchased the 28-75 G2 a few days ago. I suffered for a long time between Sigma 28-70 and Tamron, in the end Tamron won :). Costs about $825 and Tamron provides a 6 year warranty. The first copy scared me a little because of the very tight fit on the NEX Sony A7II mount. The original Sony 28-70 lens fit perfectly easily, but I didn’t even dare to press this one the first time. I ended up returning it and am expecting a replacement in a couple of days. On specialized forums I was assured that this is the moisture barrier gasket that works and will soon become “easier.” As an experienced technician, I am tormented by daily doubts - there is no gasket on the metal mount and there cannot be. There is a clear engagement of metal with metal and the puncture in the fit feels great, it’s even scary to force it every time. I don't want to gouge the mount of the new camera.
In general, I’m waiting for a replacement; I’ll share my experiences later. It's a pity that autumn has faded away...
I've been using glass for about 2 months completely with A7II (24MP)
I agree that it fits tightly on the carcass, even with caution. But the glass is from the category - set and forget. Definitely not for those who like to change optics frequently. Having eaten a mountain of lenses on Nikon and realizing that it was in the hands, and not in the lenses, I deliberately bought only one 28-75 station wagon from Sony and that’s it, I’m not going to shoot it.
The glass is very sharp at 2.8, the aperture is good, the size is noticeably smaller than the competitor from Sigma 24-70. The photo quality is excellent, color rendition, contrast, everything is excellent. HA is difficult to catch, they exist, but Tamron definitely did a good job on this issue.
The main disadvantage for me personally is the incomprehensible idea with the lack of buttons to turn off the stub and autofocus. Everything is proposed to be done via USB type C, but after 2 months of use I have not addressed this issue. Just buttons would definitely be better. Perhaps the guys from Tamron decided to embed all the settings into USB, and not like Sigma through a separate docking station. In order not to overload, and not to have 3 information points on the lens, we decided to remove MA/AF and stub and leave only USB.
Tamron G2 28-75 for Sony does not have a stabilizer. Autofocus is turned on and off from the camera. So, even USB may be superfluous. Although in my opinion, having a manual AF/MF switch on the lens is a good practice.

A couple more words about the glass - IMHO this is purely reportage glass, for all shooting situations, don’t expect any wow-bokeh from it (although who needs that anymore), the design is technically correct, sharp, distortion is minimal.
According to the stated aperture F2.8, I came across somewhere that the open hole there is really F2.9. Maybe the front thread is only 67mm; for comparison, the Sigma Art 24-70 has an 82mm front filter.
There is no way to compare with the previous version, but the G2 is said to have nice upgrades over its predecessor. In any case, as I said, I’m not going to remove it from the carcass.
