The old 18-140 3.5-5.6 will obviously be better.
This one is darker and the bayonet is plastic.
Apparently they do not want to raise the price tag.

    • wj

I wouldn't say a better one. I compared the old 18-140 directly with the whale 16-50 on the Z50 at an 18mm focal length and the whale turned out to be noticeably sharper, even in the center, but especially at the edges of the frame. Well, the difference between 5.6 and 6.3 is too small to be taken seriously.

      • B. R. P.

Compare 3x zoom with 8x zoom, great move.

        • wj

Why not? Yes, 8x magnification is more demanding on the optics, well, the lens is bigger and more expensive! 16-50 is generally tiny in comparison, I'm generally at a loss as to how Nikon managed to make it so good optically.

  • wj

Really a plastic mount will be made for him (judging by its color in the photo)? It would be sad. Of course, plastic is ok in light cheap lenses, but 18-140 under the F-mount, for example, weighed about 500 g, and this will be more. Or does Nikon still manage to seriously lose weight and the price of the lens?

    • Arkady Shapoval

The 18-135 and 18-105 have plastic mounts and have never had any particular problems with them. (on 18-105 I shot 40 thousand frames)

      • wj

I have 5 lenses with plastic mounts used in the household and nothing happened to them. True, they were all up to 400 g in weight. So I'm worried. A mirrored 18-140 with a metal bayonet was produced.

      • Alex

My 18-105 petals broke off. One still lost its former owner, and the second is already me. Moreover, I don't even know when it happened, I just noticed once that most of the petal is missing.

        • Victor

Probably the consequences of not being too careful. I had a d90 for three years, then I gave it to my wife, until now with her, nothing broke off from 18-105.

        • Vlad

It will be fun if this piece of petal falls into the mirror lift mechanism or between the shutter curtains.

  • Novel

To paraphrase the classics: “what lenses are you missing yet”?

    • copenhagen72

Well, probably normal zoom f2.8 for crops is not enough. Everyone except Sonya.
Sony has a Tamron 17-70 2.8 that covers most of the tasks, an analogue of the most popular full-frame 24-110 f4.
      Canon has a fig
      Nikon has a fig
      Fuji has 16-80 F4 or 16-55 f2.8 without stabilization.
APS-C cameras are leftovers from the lord's full-frame table. Aperture 4-5.6-6.3 on crops it is very dark, clean on vacation on the beach to take pictures.

      • B. R. P.

        "Canon has a fig
        Nikon has a fig "

Are you talking about mirrorless cameras?

        “Fuji has 16-80 F4 or 16-55 f2.8 without stabilization.
APS-C cameras are leftovers from the lord's full-frame table. "

Fuji doesn't have a full frame yet.

        • copenhagen72

          Naturally, about the UPC.
"Fuji doesn't have a full frame yet."
Fuji does not have a lot of things, there is still no normal (Canon / Sony level) autofocus and normal matrix stabilization on APS-C either.

        • Jury

"Fuji doesn't have a full frame yet." Why does Fuji need a full frame if Fuji has a digital medium format :)

          • B. R. P.

            Oh yeah!

  • Dmitriy

They don't write about plastic, I didn't find it. It remains to be hoped for anodizing

  • Oleg

Well, here's the staff arrived in time, otherwise there are no lenses crying, a bit dark though.

    • Victor

6.3 on long is a ridiculous third of a stop from 5.6, not much darker than most five-or more-fold staffs.

    • copenhagen72

Remember that the Sony E 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS is 10 years old plus or minus this year.

  • Dm

I want to take one for Z fc.
