Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro on steroids

Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro on steroids

Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro on steroids

У legendary camera Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro there is a significant drawback - a rather thick AA filter, which is why one can come across the opinion that Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro requires exceptionally 'sharp' lenses to create detailed shots. This problem has one simple, but not very cheap solution - replace the AA filter with an AA filter from Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro... True, for this you will have to sacrifice the Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro camera. The last time I asked the masters the cost of such a replacement / repair, and it was about $ 100.

In fact, Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro и Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro use the same sensor, and therefore the color rendition does not change from such a replacement.

curious how much the exposure will go with such a replacement.

  • Vasya

Arkady, I apologize for the offtopic, but if possible, I would like to know what you are filming yourself now? Has the issue of photographic equipment been resolved after the complete sale of all your cameras in September 2015? What happened to Nikon 180 2.8? Have you found a replacement?

  • Oleg

And one more offtopic. Arkady, judging by the z7, has experience in using modern cameras, but there is no review on them. Do you currently have a main camera?

    • Arkady Shapoval

Nikon D40 is the best camera of all time. For work I often shoot with a7m3, a7rm2, 6d, 5dmark 2, d700, I rent something, something of my own. For reviews, I have a3500. I tried a lot, I don’t want to do camera reviews, it’s a very exhausting business, for the same a7m3 I didn’t even make an impression. But he pledged to make impressions on the Panasonic S1R. Pieces of metal, professional burnout, no interest in new products from the word at all

      • Dmitry Kostin

"There is no interest in new products from the word at all"
        It is a pity.
If I lived in Kiev or in Ukraine, I would gladly pay for the rent of Fuji X-T4 (from 16-80 / 4 or 16-55 / 2.8) for you to see a full view of this camera here on Radozhiv.

        • Arkady Shapoval

in my opinion, so much money was poured into advertising x-t4 that everyone should feel sick of this camera (of course, this does not apply to its real capabilities)

          • Victor

            +1

IMHO, of course (already said) - Radozhiva is valuable precisely because in one place a lot of information on OLD and / or BUDGET cameras and lenses is collected.

And there are already enough reviews of the XT4, a camera with a bunch of possibilities, but without a highlight, and hardly accessible to the average amateur.

          • Dmitry Kostin

Arkady, that's why I am interested in your honest and impartial opinion.
            This is understandable about advertising.
It is also clear that there are enough reviews of Cameras X, Y, Z.
Do you have plans for further filling the site with camera reviews (including modern ones)?
IMHO, Radozhiva should not turn into a museum.

            • Victor

“If I lived in Kiev or Ukraine, I would gladly pay”

I think there is nothing stopping me from doing this for a photographer from Izhevsk Rodion, for that matter, who will write just as honestly and impartially, right? This is if you really need another review on the x-t4.
Or an option - to rent a camera yourself and decide for yourself whether you need one or not (I have not yet met at least one person in the comments to the articles who would also long for a review on x-t4).

But yes, it will still be more useful to provide a free opportunity to use it for Rodion, and he is interested and useful to you.

              • Victor

                The requisites are publicly available.

              • Dmitry Kostin

You and I agreed to ignore each other's posts.
Well, ok, I will answer this question:
“I think there is nothing stopping us from doing this for a photographer from Izhevsk, Rodion, for that matter, who will write just as honestly and impartially, right? This is if we really need another review on x-t4. "
I don't need a “regular” review. I really respect Rodion's professionalism, but I would still like to see reviews of Canon EOS R, Fuji X-T4 authored by Arkady on Radozhiv's website.
“Or an option - to rent a camera yourself and decide for yourself whether you need one or not”
There is no problem with that. For myself, I decided that I would take the X-T4 or, if there is an X-H2. That is why I sold X100T.

              • Victor

I have not agreed with you, Dmitry, about anything, you have a bad memory.

I think there is more than one way to send money to Arkady. Write to him personally. If you want to do something, you need to do it, and not talk about it.

              • Dmitry Kostin

Uv Victor, my business is to propose, and Arkady's business to think.
He knows my profile in VK, we were written off.
                *
And let me mirror the phrase you are familiar with: “don’t tell me what I have to do and I won’t send you in a familiar direction.” OK? :)

            • Victor

Well, that's nice. Then it is all the more incomprehensible why this original cutesy “sorry…” was. If a person considers himself a man, he must act, and not do what is happening)) Moreover, there is a personal contact, and not one.

And yes, I do not allow mirroring, come up with something of your own.

In general, I propose on this positive note to close the topic of discussion of the impossibility of transferring cash to Arkady. The question, I think, has exhausted itself.

              • Dmitry Kostin

“In general, I propose on this positive note to close the topic of discussion of the impossibility of transferring cash to Arkady. The question, I think, has exhausted itself. "
Victor, the question is how much to translate, where to translate and, most importantly, what exactly, to translate.
"If a person considers himself a man, he must act, and not do what is happening))"
And yes, read it again with your eyes (eyes), Arkady did not answer yes or no.
“And yes, I don’t allow mirroring, come up with something of your own.”
                I do not care.
                *

              • Victor

Dmitry, if you read with your eyes what Arkady wrote, correlate this with the number of reviews on Fujifilm technique (not with Nikon F mount, but with Fuji X) on Radozhiv, then you will make a simple and logical conclusion. But if it doesn't work out, I'll direct you: if Arkady was * interested * in this review, he would have found funds to rent equipment on his own.

                >> I don't care

                Great, suddenly me too :)

              • Dmitry Kostin

"If you read with your eyes what Arkady wrote, correlate it with the number of reviews on Fujifilm technique (not with Nikon F mount, but with Fuji X) on Radozhiv, then you will make a simple and logical conclusion .."
Which you, of course, thought out, maybe Arkady once wrote that it is not possible to contact Fuji's representatives or that they did not answer (ignored) the request. It was like that, if I don't confuse it with another brand. Let Arkady correct it.
Nevertheless, my offer to pay rent for X-T4 (as an option for X-T3) is still valid, I do not give up my words.
I hope Radozhiva does not turn into a museum with stuffy erudites in the comments, it will be very sad.

              • Victor

I have repeatedly expressed my thoughts, but I'm not afraid to repeat myself - Radozhiva, starting with a simple blog about photography, currently occupies a unique niche, representing a collection of useful information about a technique that no one is writing about now (and even early reviews during the day with fire), and all in one place. People's cameras. People's optics. For example, I would hardly have paid attention to Chinese optics, if not for the local review of ttartisan, but it turned out to be quite good.

Reviews of the same хт3, хт4, хн1, etc. and etc. - go out into the street, spit - so you will certainly get into one of them. And tomorrow will come out xt5. And the day after tomorrow хт6. Another faceless box, but only with XXX autofocus points and 24k 100500 FPS video. But with the same picture.

I really hope that Arkady will not cave in under the frankly ingratiating (I would call it another word, but I will resist) Pokemon in the comments and will remain an original author of reviews. If burnout occurs, it's certainly sad, but Rodion seems to support
started the course, and there, you see, other authors will catch up.

              • Dmitry Kostin

I propose to mentally think about what will happen in 5-7 years.
All "legendary" lenses will leave the market, alas due to natural reasons of wear / separation of lenses / mildew or mold / failed motors.
There will be fewer cameras released in the XNUMXs and earlier.
Cameras based on CCD matrices will become completely museum-like (there will be single copies with matrices that do not look like a sieve in the attachment, I note this is an S5Pro matrix), and so on and so forth. UPCs will win everyone, and in 10 years they will look at some d700 as if they were Helios. We will not watch, but the younger generation. Another option, generally radical, is possible - the phones will pick up the entire low-end cameras, along with the middle too. And there will be top-end cameras for several thousand dollars. This is already noticeable now, and Arkady also spoke on this topic. What was relevant in 2013-2014 is of little relevance now and will be completely irrelevant in 7 years. And 2014, it would seem, was recently.
Therefore, there is no escape from the reviews of the new cameras.
At least due to the fact that you can attach Helios or something else from the flea market to the new cameras. Especially if someone finally comes up with an adapter with a screwdriver for Nikon F.

              • Victor

Cameras and lenses will go away, of course, and the rest will go away, and we will go away, but (I'm talking about technology now) obviously not in 5-7 years. The world does not end at 28-70 and 17-35 with brittle motors, but mushroom 35-70 (gluing which, by the way, is quite recoverable)

For example. I have in my hands an autofocus 70-210, which is already 34 years old, has not seen any fungus or other problems, strength inside with a margin, what will it be in 5-7 years if it is properly treated? Nothing will happen. Unlike some new technology (I will not point a finger in the direction of a reputable brand).

Next, the cameras. Let's open Avito and see how many of the same ctsd cameras with ridiculous runs at a ridiculous price are there.
What will happen to them in 5 years?
Will electrolytes come in, which are not there?
Batteries? Well, 18500 fresh cans in bulk. Will the bolt jam and there are no spare parts? Well, you can take one more camera of the same (the prices for which are already lower than the cost of replacing the shutter in them), but these cameras have been riveted so much that ...

Scary stories about the matrix, which went to the starry sky? Alas, I don’t remove black squares, honestly I don’t even know what’s there and how with mine. This is not reflected in the picture in any way.

Even today, many people look at d700 as at Helios. What does this matter for those who do not yet look at the d700, as at Helios?

In general, progress does not stand still, it is. There are good cameras with advanced eye AF, 20fps, 8k video and sharp optics with open. In most cases, it costs decent money, for example, the mentioned Fuj x-t4 with a minimum 16-80 will cost as much as 200k rubles today. And this is a crop.

Do amateur photographers need its capabilities, who are still the majority on the site? How many bonuses will they get when using it in comparison with folk sets with Avito / OLH at a price ten times (sic!) Less?)) Finally, will their cards become 10 times better?)))

The questions are rhetorical, of course.

              • Arkady Shapoval

I think there will be a note about s1r today

      • Oleg

In general, yes, all cameras are good at the moment, the difference is: there is 4k, there is no 4k, there is a matrix stub, there is no matrix stub. ISO 3200, in principle, is enough for all tasks, including astrophotography, it is sane on all cameras. DD for all plus or minus stops, in principle, enough. And in general, it is stupid to make a fetish for equipment and manufacturer.

        • Oleg

But it would still be about Sonya
          interested to know your opinion

      • vvs

It's time for you from writers to editors

“There is one simple but not very cheap solution to this problem - replace the AA filter with a Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro AA filter. I was interested in this question on the photo_ru, but I was advised not to do it.
Firstly, Protroykas themselves are rare cameras, which began to rise in price, as did Pro-Pyatki.
Secondly, handicraftsmen work with the replacement of the matrix filter, the services themselves are not associated with this. Volver / Wolver / Alexey (aka) from the photo_ru forum offered me something like this for about 12 thousand rubles.
However, as I understand it, he tried filters not only with S3Pro, but also some others, because reviews are different. But the essence of the reviews is disappointment. Someone's color "went", someone has a lot of moire, someone has dust or some fluff flew between the filter and the matrix.
Despite the belief that the S3Pro and S5Pro have the same matrices, this may not be the case. Take a look at DXOMARK (I know this is corny). These cameras have different DD (on the S5Pro, the DD is wider), as well as the operation of the exposure meter and WB.
The S5Pro reproduces color more accurately and subtly, rarely making mistakes with AutoBB and exposure. The S3Pro feels like an ancient relic of the dinosaur era, based on the Nikon N80 / F80 film film. DD already, AutoBB requires some attention (AF in Protroyka after Propyatka is noticeably weaker).
If someone can throw a link to the pictures from the S5Pro with a fine filter, I will be glad to see.
I have Permeate and two Protroyki (one is ordinary, the other is very rare - Blue Label with doubled memory capacity up to 256MB - “Optional konnte der interne Zwischenspeicher (Puffer) mit zusätzlichen 256 MB verdoppelt werden, um die Bildrate bei Serienbildauhfnahmen zuhen 2 er ] "- https://yablor.ru/blogs/redkaya-kamera-fujifilm-s3-pro-blue/4618863 ).

    • Aleksey68

what if you throw it away? I didn’t see if the IR filter was there separately or it was sprayed onto one of the AA filter glasses. if separately, then you can completely remove the AA filter.

      • Dmitry Kostin

Hard to say. I didn’t climb into such a jungle. There are fewer and fewer of these cameras on Avito, then it is probably better not to risk it (this is IMHO), but to buy a sharper lens.

        • Aleksey68

I disassembled both protrusions and penetrations, but not completely - I did not remove the matrix, there was no need. so I don’t know how the filter works there. unlike the kenon, the fuji service manual does not provide such information. and, in general, the service manuals for drilling and cleaning are rather strange - they describe only half of the camera, namely its matrix part, but in no way describe the chamber itself, that is, the mechanical part. why this is, in general, understandable, but annoying all the same :)

          • Dmitry Kostin

If it's not a secret, what do you think are the weak points in the design of these cameras?

          • pchel

They describe how the camera differs from the d200.

    • Dmitry Kostin

And yes, even such a moment - after replacing the filter on Propyatka (for a thinner one), there were complaints that the focus began to smear. Those. there was a back / front problem that didn't exist before.
Because of what so, I suspect.

  • Victor

Expensive (in fact, another one and a half of the cost of a serviceable carcass c5pro), and not very useful, with a sad possible prospect of spoiling even the picture that was.

IMHO, if the manufacturer has laid down exactly this filter, then it is justified.

    • Victor

I saw a lot of great photos from stock holes, where it would never have occurred to me to look for small nuances of sharpness / detail. In general, the cameras are not for detailing (honest MPs are there in the region of 8..9 emnip), which roughly corresponds to the resolution of the film on a narrow screen.

  • Anatoly

I kept the S3 for my soul and leisurely shooting, and the S5 sold everything. There is a modern Fuji for all kinds of events. I do not know why bother with a filter transplant if you can safely shoot on S3.

  • Neustrdm

After reading the title, I already thought that FujiFilm decided to make the anniversary version of the heel on a modern element base. But it turned out that it was necessary to dig out the stewardess again :)

    • Arkady Shapoval

they will never do it, because CMOS is more expensive than money

  • Master

Now it costs $ 30 to replace the filter. The sensors for c3 and c5 are slightly different, non-interchangeable.

    • Dmitry Kostin

"The sensors for c3 and c5 are slightly different, not interchangeable."
      Thank you very much.
In general, I thought so (and the photo_ru suggested a similar thing).

  • Lyudmila

I put a filter from Nikon D200 on my nikon d50. I got up like a native, only put a rubber screen from nikon.

    • Konstantin

Can you tell me where did you get the replacement?

      • Lyudmila

Own manual masturbation. Now it lies like a brick, since after replacement the autofocus of the matrix needs to be adjusted and the problem with reading memory cards has not yet been solved. I sent it in for repairs and bought a new seal.

    • Dmitry Kostin

Try Transcend CF cards in 16GB and 32GB.
I have cards (of different speeds 133x, 266x) of this manufacturer on Pryatka have taken root quite well.

  • Lyudmila

all that remains is to find a CF card that the camera will accept, otherwise it doesn't want to work with the majority. The most interesting thing is to see how it will work with the new filter, since the filter from d50 is much thinner than the native one.

    • Arkady Shapoval

and specifically with which he does not want to work? c5 seems to eat any cards without any problems. As far as I know, only some 64GB and higher have problems

  • Lyudmila

Transcend's 4 GB memory card refused to accept. I gave an error, on 1Gb Silcon power 80x, did not accept it either. The only Qumo on 4Gb she accepted. With the D200 there are no such problems, it swallows all the cards.

    • Arkady Shapoval

It’s very strange how much I didn’t feed c5 with different cards, there was always only positive experience, and it is well known that c5 is not picky about cards.

      • Lyudmila

        Yes, strange ... ((

  • Andrei

    Hello to you, Arkady!
    Thank you for existing.
The D200 is positioned as dust- and water-resistant, but the S5 pro is not. Why? After all, the body is the same.
