Mysterious Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro

Below the video there is a small analysis of what is happening.

Mysterious Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro

The mysterious Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro. UPDATE: there used to be a YouTube video embedded here, but something went wrong not this way... The video itself is still here... One more note (without even starting to watch the video) here.

Overview note

Vadim (author this video) kindly has provided all original RAW ('.RAF') and JPEG files from his video review 'Review of the legendary Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro!'. A total of 66 RAW files and 88 JPEG files. Vadim used Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro with advanced kit lens Nikon 18-105mm 1: 3.5-5.6G ED Nikkor VR AF-S SWM DX IF Aspherical... The files were rotated by the Capture One converter (by the way, Capture One does not 'understand' the sensor structure and only considers the S-pixels of the Super CCD SR II sensor).

From 66-RAW files:

  • only 6 (six) removed from D-RANGE 400% (W2): numbers 4131, 4098, 4099, 4111, 4112, 4113
  • One shot from the D-RANGE 100% STD, number 4097.
  • All others are removed from FILM SIM F2

To put it very roughly, the D-RANGE (dynamic range) '100% STD' (STANDART) disables the R-pixels on the Super CCD SR II sensor, and the image itself becomes similar in dynamic range to the usual 6 megapixel CCD sensors, standing in many cameras of those years. We are not interested in this mode at all. The D-RANGE 400% (W2), on the other hand, can give out the full potential of the dynamic range and in the review it is presented with only six images.

F2 Film Simulation is much more complicated.... It uses R pixels and even writes their data to the original RAW file, but they are used as little as possible. There is no exact information on what level of D-RANGE (dynamic range) 'F2' uses, but EXIF pictures taken with 'F2' says D-RANGE is 'STANDART' / 'STANDARD' (note that this is definitely not 'WIDE' / 'WIDE'). Unfortunately, in F1a, F1b, F1c, F2 modes, the camera does not indicate the specific D-RANGE in percentage with which the shooting was made. In the field responsible for the D-RANGE there is just a dash (view). Data is searched only by third-party EXIF viewers:

DSCF4096.RAF

EXIF snapshot DSCF4096.RAF from Vadim, captured in F2 mode, reviewed with excellent service Jeffrey's Image Metadata Viewer

At the same time, the modes F1a, F1b, F1c use D-RANGE WIDE, however, it is not known how much power. It is believed to be 400% (W2).

EXIF of my image, viewed with the excellent Jeffrey's Image Metadata Viewer

EXIF my picture as an example of the Dynamic Range difference, viewed with an excellent service Jeffrey's Image Metadata Viewer

Judge the maximum dynamic range Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro, relying on the F2 film simulation mode in no way... The best way to do this is to use the manual simulation mode 'D-RANGE 400% (W2)'. The fact that the 'F2' mode knocks out lights has long been said (and more than once). As confirmation, I will refer to the well-known Ken rockwell, which is also upset by the strange behavior of the 'F2' mode.

I would like to point out that it is best to watch / rotate RAW ('.RAF') files with Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro native utility Fujifilm Hyper-Utility HS-V3. Capture One Converter does not provide at least 12 megapixel images (does not include sensor polygonal structure to increase the resolution). Besides Capture One does not see or understand R-pixels at all, because of which RAW files practically do not "stretch" in any way, which kills the whole essence of the Super CCD SR II sensor, which is located in the heart Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro... Use Capture One Converter to work with RAW ('.RAF') file with Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro is gross mistake (video on this topic here).

Continuation of delusions from the second roller here.

Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro Is a very specific camera, and it is not always easy to understand its operation. Actually, this is why it is interesting, and therefore continues to attract the attention of many users.

A lot of different information on Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro can find in my review on Radozhiv and Photozene... Pictures with a nice lens Sigma 135mm 1: 1.8 DG A can take a look in this video.

Thanks to Vadim for his work. You can visit him Instagram, VK, Telegram и Youtube.

  • in

It was immediately clear that the head should also be connected to c5, f2 never liked

  • Sergei

    Structure, of course yes :-)

Interestingly, rawspeed pulls a result from this file with a resolution lower than the proprietary utility, but there is about the same amount of details. Maybe you shouldn't have chased permission.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Well, the S5 pro is clearly not a camera for the sake of "resolution" and detail. It's more about color and DD.

  • Andrei

    ACR sees 6,2 megapixels.

    • Arkady Shapoval

ACR is not LR, although it is believed that LR is on the ACR engine

      • Andrei

        I have ACR in Photoshop.

      • Novel

LightRoom powered by Adobe Camera Raw. More precisely, both are on the same engine, but for ACR you just tweak the sliders for the parameters, and LightRoom also has library functions and presets.

        • Arkady Shapoval

Yes, I'm just talking about that. But LR gives 12 MP, and ACR (as a Photoshop plugin) gives 6. Often it doesn't matter. Still, the presence of R-pixels and the shape of the pixels add detail. In general, we can assume that the S5 pro gives "honest" not 6, but 8 MP. Previously, there was a study on this topic, if you do not take into account artifacts (a ladder, for example), then they came to the conclusion that the S5 Pro has a resolution of 8 to 10 MP, when comparing similar 8-10 MP cameras of the past. Having played a lot with jipegs, I came to the conclusion that there is still more data with 12 megapixels and the pictures look a little better, especially if you then downsize them to 6 megapixels (I usually pressed up to 8 megapixels). Of course, the difference is small, more psychological, but it is there.

          • Ivan

"But LR gives 12MP, and ACR (as a Photoshop plugin) gives 6."
You are wrong. The Photoshop plugin can also subtract 12MP. You just need to change the default setting.
            ACR-S5-Pro

            • Victor

Thank you. A useful point, the setting is in such an obvious place that it was difficult to imagine its presence there)) Personally, it seemed to me somewhat strange that LR sees 12MP, but ACR does not. Now everything is in place.

Another point. I took several raves from pro5, opened it twice - once in 12MP mode, the other in 6MP mode, followed by upscale up to 12 with “preserving details”.

Honestly. In a blind test, I would not have caught the difference where which picture is.

              • Arkady Shapoval

Many will not distinguish between shots from d200 and c5 pro. I shot a lot on c5 and 6 and 12 MP. On large samples, it is felt, albeit weakly, that 12 is better (though I'm talking about a chamber jeep). I myself am also unlikely to correctly determine from paired photos.

            • Arkady Shapoval

Thank you, the question is settled. Live century - teach how to convert a photo

            • Neustrdm

I tried to turn on 12MP in ACR, and lo and behold, I pulled the DSC4131 out of more than 3 stops in overexposure. Check it out. (size from 12mp had to be reduced to fit in 2mb)

            • Neustrdm

And this is how it was

              • Arkady Shapoval

Now you need 4 stops to confirm the legend

              • Andrii

                Quite fit.

              • Neustrdm

Arkady, there was no overexposure by 4 stops, the picture would have become too dark, but there is a margin of safety. Such zrada about the soak will be canceled.

              • Victor

                "Quite fit"

Nothing good. The picture shows that it is better not to overexpose even on the heel with its “rubber” lights.

              • Neustrdm

In principle, we managed to stretch everything, there is no clipping anywhere in the photo, even where it seems. The problem with overexposure in the hedge is different - in the highlights, the blue is taken away to a purple hue, therefore, all the sky and white areas of the house were purple. I had to twist the hue to the maximum, turning purple into blue: this is how the right clouds turned out. And then, the slider was not enough. But in general, I agree with the comment above: it is better not to overexpose, even on a heap.

              • Andrii

Compared to what happened and how the author of the video processed, your result is very good.
It is clear that it is better not to overexpose, but if it were overexposure even by 2 stops, then the result would be much better.

              • Arkady Shapoval

                > Arkady, there was no overexposure by 4 stops, the picture would have become too dark, but there is a margin of safety. Such zrada about the soak will be canceled.

Yes, I mean that there is a legend that the camera pulls 4 stops of overexposure. Some adherents call it “c5 about 4 stops of overexposure”.

              • Neustrdm

Send me, pliz, a file with 4 stops of overexposure, I will check how it stretches.

        • Andrei

          ACR also has it.

          • Victor

            There are presets, no libraries.

In addition, batch mode is implemented much more conveniently in Lightroom. Actually, acr is sharpened for individual processing most of all.

  • Michael

ACR D-Range also does not really understand, you see only his native taxis, like Sigma

  • Zheka

And none of you twisted sigma sd quattro x? The pictures seem to be interesting, but the reviews are very contradictory.

    • Dima

Pictures from any sigma are, in principle, interesting) But yes, you need to get used to it.

    • Dima

And then it will be like the author of the video, the camera is shit and everyone is lying)))

    • Dmitry Kostin

      I had a Sigma SD-1 Merrill.
Sold a month ago with lenses.
      1) Bayonet is dead. Sigma goes to joint with Panasonic.
      2) Basic ISO100. You can raise it somewhere up to 200. Further, it is not desirable, the color “rides”.
      3) There is nothing trite on sale. We order batteries or battery pens from ebay or through an official dealer, waiting for several months and making an advance payment of 100%.
      4) Clean the matrix? Only one official service in Moscow. For other malfunctions there, i.e. to online trade.
      5) You cannot come to the store and select several lenses and set up at the docking station. Because lenses are not commercially available and there are no docking stations either.
On the other hand, offers for sale often appear at the flea market.
      6) Of the main features - the ZHOR of batteries. All cameras on Foveon are very fond of them. One battery may not be enough for 300 shots.
      7) Frankly weak AF module. There are few points, and as soon as it starts to darken, the extreme points become inoperative. Despite the native mount and lenses, the AF is pensive, the lenses may require adjustment (I remind you about 1 service in Moscow time).
      8) Narrow DD. Approximately at the level of the 3rd Pyatak at ISO100.
      9) It is highly advisable to use only the native developer Sigma Photo Pro.
      10) Large weight of Ravs and a small frame buffer. Frames are flipped equally slowly you bought a flash drive 266x or 1066x. My camera did not like high-speed flash drives - for some reason it warmed up more (the camera body itself) and warmed up flash drives (pulled out and sometimes burned my fingers), and it so happened that the camera steamed up frames, partially recorded them. At the same time, the same flash drive worked fine on other cameras.

      • Dmitry Kostin

But it was a pity to sell it, because the picture with fixed Art lenses is really with per-pixel sharpness. Moire is quite common. It is necessary to get used to the camera, its exposure meter, and to work with it. All Sigmas on Foveon are more suited to leisurely landscape photography. Street is not filmed. Night photos from Sigma are also rare.
By default, the contrast is quite high, so if you have to photograph something in contrasting lighting conditions, reduce the contrast by 1-2 divisions to the left, set the exposure compensation to -0,3EV or -0,6EV. We forget about AutoBB and select the BB for the weather / lighting.
It is advisable to shoot without raising the ISO above 100.

        • Dmitry Kostin

Another such moment - on the SD Quattro H crop / 1.3, like the Canon 1D.
And lenses for it will have to look for those designed for FF, while on the rest of the Sigmas you can screw both crop lenses and under FF: 17-50 / 2.8 or 18-35 / 1.8 (!) Or 50-100 / 1.8 (! ) if you find it.

          • Zheka

Thank you for your answer, Dmitry! And at night, as I understand it, there will be noises from her in dark areas?

            • Dmitry Kostin

With this camera, as with any old crop, it makes no sense to shoot with ISO800 and higher.
I try not to raise the ISO above 400 on my Protroyki / Peripherals.
Because for shooting in the dark there is D4.

              • Novel

It makes no sense to shoot with any camera at ISO800 and higher. Well, there are very few scenes that work well at low ISO. There is a tripod for sunrises and sunsets. In really low light conditions, things will look bad at any ISO. And if these are some kind of street lamps, there one spectrum of these red lamps will give an extremely disgusting picture.

              • Zheka

                Romich, what are you?

        • Andrei

before buying you did not know that everything is so tight with the service?

      • Dima

Taking all this into account, it is better to take something from the Dp series with the second camera, if you want to play with the sigma matrix. Yes, there will be one fix, but at times less than any troubles. Well, the size is weight, you can always take the camera with you. The minus DSLRs had a real carriage. One weirdo on the photo, by the way, remade the bayonet under the canon glass, he already strongly wanted to put his boot drips on the sigma. Whether he was satisfied or not, he caught a lot of hemorrhoids. And risk)

        • Dmitry Kostin

“One freak on the photo, by the way, was remaking the bayonet under the canon glass, he already really wanted to put his shoe drips on sigma. Whether he was satisfied or not, he caught a lot of hemorrhoids. And risk) "
Yes, I've even seen screenshots like these transformations.
I heard that the EF and SA mounts have some common features (I won't say anything, because I'm not an expert).
"The minus DSLRs had a real carriage."
Well, not that the carriage. This is partly due to the fact that the service is only 1 to Moscow, partly due to the fact that this official dealer was not eager to constantly keep a full range of cameras and lenses for this mount. You want to buy something, and you have money, but nothing is available. Well, the matrix itself is very specific, working in a narrow ISO range. In my opinion, if you buy something on the SA mount now, it's just for the sake of playing around and throwing it off soon. It seems to me that many people do just that.

          • Dmitry Kostin

I sold my Sigma after I realized that the Fuji Protroika and Prostroyka I bought, as well as two Canon Units, completely absorbed my free time and Sigma lay without work for about a year.

        • Andrei

I made it easier: I rearranged the mounts from broken sigma lenses to working lenses from under the kenon. The autofocus and stub in the lenses worked fine after that. They have the same working distance.

  • Dima

In general, the author of the video did not understand the scammer and crap it quickly.

    • Jury

He really achieved his goal - a lot of people learned about him and his channel :)

      • Dima

the main thing is hype, positive or negative is no longer important)

  • Denis

Today he will “mock” the camera on the stream.

    • Dmitry Kostin

What did he do before that?

  • Vadim

Hello connoisseurs, tell me how to run this vaunted converter on vin10?

    • Dmitry Kostin

      I worked without problems on 8.1 x64 and at 10 x64 now.
I have an archive with this rav-converter (they threw it to me on the photo_ru).
When I changed Windows, I simply unpacked the archive with this program, launched it and everything works without problems.

      • Vadim

Can you share your archive? I downloaded the image, tried all the compatibility modes - the installation does not start in any

        • Dmitry Kostin

Okay, I'll try to put the disk on Yandex and upload a link here.
I hope Arkady will not mind (well, like warez and all that).

          • Vadim

If possible, you can send me a personal message in any convenient way - I swear not to use it for commercial purposes and delete it today

            • Dmitry Kostin

              I can't post a link here.
              I'll take off Arkady now.
As proof, here's a screenshot that my build is working:

              • Dmitry Kostin

I will post the link with a screenshot (I know this is a perversion, but the link itself does not allow posting)

              • Arkady Shapoval

                Link https://disk.yandex.ru/d/V2qovNidUj_4RQ

              • Dmitry Kostin

There is one important point - when Hyper-Utility V3 starts, you need to configure it as in this screenshot.
Not everyone thinks about it, and the program itself will never tell you about it.
But of course the camera manufacturer, etc., etc., will be to blame
Since the program is as old as a dinosaur, then it also had settings that make it work faster at the expense of quality. At that time, there were complaints about its performance, so from some version it came with the default settings “for speed”, and not for “quality”.
                Few people know about this.

              • Dmitry Kostin

And such a moment - in the screenshot above, in the lower right corner there is a fad Noise Reduction.
The camera has two noise reduction modes - STD, ORG.
STD - Standard (Noise Reduction), default.
ORG - a more sparing noise reduction, about which on page 116 of the instructions it is written as
“This mode is less effective than STD and is suitable for capturing the night sky.
There is no OFF item in the menu.

  • Neustrdm

In compatibility mode for windows vista

    • Dmitry Kostin

It works for me without any compatibility mode, i.e. as it is. There were no departures from the program. It works stably.

      • Arkady Shapoval

the same, although I have an assembly that does not work at 10k

  • Arkady Shapoval

From Vadim it came out continuation here

  • Denis

Another video came out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4EagScZYOk... Apparently, his kukukha went))). So, it is not funny and ridiculous already. For what he posted it is not clear ... And subscribers praise him in the comments.

    • Dmitry Kostin

I haven't watched the second video, but the third ... well, this is Santa Barbara.
I don't want to waste my time on this at all. To whom he wants to prove what I xs.
Let him do the same with the rest of the “color” cameras - such as Sigma on Foveon, Canon Units (if something is left in his head, he will not do it), Kodak DCS SLR.
Maybe the prices for them at flea markets will go down.
The dude haipanul and even Arkady Shapoval noticed him, and this is a confession for him.
Yes, and God is with him.

      • Dima

The dude did not understand the scammer and screwed it up. Arkady put everything on the shelves. How to grill bypass such blokherov side.

    • cybernetics

Well, in fact, this is a YouTuber who used to teach how to clean the matrix with a mop at a 30-second exposure.
What else can I add ...

      • Dima

And he also said that Nikon froze better. Although having used a lot of this and that different models, I am definitely for the canon. By the way, Nikonists are more like sectarians than shoemakers.

        • Dmitry Kostin

In the first video, he did not quite correctly compare the D3200 (it seems), the Z5 with Healing.
This is incorrect in terms of the difference in camera generations and technologies.
You might as well compare the D3X and the Z6 II.
As for Propyatka, in terms of iron it is almost Nikon D200.
And the exposure metering works really well for the Hearth, definitely better than, for example, the Sigma SD-1 Merrill or Protroyka.
In some situations, it is even more accurate than the D750.

          • in

Yeah, he was philosophizing about the color on profile f2 ... Eh ... Internet corrupts

          • Dima

He proceeded from the fact that Fuj was compared with more or less modern cameras like the d800. But now this does not make sense at all, since he simply did not understand the camera.

            • Dmitry Kostin

"Fuj was compared with more or less modern cameras like d800"
All the same, these are very different cameras, and I saw comparisons with the D800 only from sellers with Avito.

  • Not a bot

Stop raping your grandfather, what is the range ???? This camera is a hundred years old ... what 400% ... 4000% look for 10000%)))) God, we're sucking CCD in 2021 ... pixel combinations ... COLOR))) color))) TSVEEETT. which is different for everyone, on burned-out monitors ...
Arkady, admit - this is just a religious question, there is no chickpea any science. FOR: Kenon (cross out write Nikon) - Yellow.

    • in

You are probably not in the subject as well as 99 percent of the schoolboys :)

  • - *

I haven't laughed for a long time with the critical burning of any "experts"
that the poor rossians will not do just not to praise the old ff kenon

    • in

I laughed when he opened Rav in c1 and said something about color. Woe Blocher ... I laughed a second time on his Instagram ..

      • Dima

I decided to look at some of his vidos and realized that they could just laugh with beer with nuts) A normal person will not take his opinion seriously.
C1 is an excellent program, I worked a lot for a stoker with her. But it is more for KMK people and yes, it requires perseverance and direct hands. This is certainly not the video's pro-author)

  • Victor

I watched the third video, laughed))

Of course, I screwed up in something, got carried away (in particular, I laughed at the dd and the color, which the camera had really good ones), but on the whole I conveyed the essence correctly)))

  • Bidenko

I also recently took a 5d kenon one for nostalgia (despite the fact that I had experience of using Kodak DCS Pro SLR / n and Fuji s5 for about 6 years, and 1ds), in general, one night was enough to decide to sell it, alas

    • Novel

Interesting. Have you also filmed still lifes with icons and cats in the basement?

    • Victor

      Curious. What exactly didn't go?

After the boot with the kodak, the size should definitely not strain, the picture too.

      • Novel

More precisely, that did not come in at NIGHT. I doubt that a photography enthusiast has a photo studio at home with normal light and a bunch of bright objects to draw conclusions in the evening.

        • Dima

Ahaha sounds strange, as if he slept with him))) There are duremars as well as the author of the video)

        • Victor

2 Novel: maybe a person did not sleep all night, thought about the pros and cons, and by the morning he still made a difficult decision :)

I just don’t quite understand how, given the (positive, probably) experience of using 1dc and kodak sr, the first penny might “fail”.

  • in

If c5 was bullshit, there wouldn't be so many battles about it. There is less debate about the color of the watering can than about the color of the c5 pro. C5 is about photography and exclusive. There is nothing of the kind now. Foveon is interesting for resolution but not for color. It is difficult to add color from it

    • Dmitry Kostin

“C5 is about photography and exclusives. "
S3Pro is similar in terms of the matrix and in terms of the result in something better, in something worse.
“Foveon is interesting for its resolution, but not for its color. It is difficult to add color from it ”
A bit strange statement, it is not clear what it is based on.
      https://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2014/04/08/sigma-qa-part-ii-does-foveons-quattro-sensor-really-outresolve-conventional
The Sigma cameras on Foveon had native resolution and interpolation, something like a local upscale (roughly speaking, this was served under a similar sauce as the notorious 12MP at Proyatka and Protroyka).
About the color. It is enough to use Sigma Photo Pro, shoot at ISO up to 200 (inclusive) and set up the camera correctly and everything will be fine.
It is enough to look at the Sigma branches on the photo_ru forum and see pictures of people from these cameras. The very problem of Foveon is a lot of fables around him and a lot of misunderstood people who try to buy it for the sake of curiosity and then quickly dump this system without really understanding the system.
It would seem that Sigma's menus and settings are very simple and straightforward. Many people are scared off by poking around in Sigma Photo Pro (I note that the program itself is convenient, you just need to get used to it and it is definitely more convenient and gives more options for editing and configuring X3M files than Fujik's Hyper Utility). There are also enough other problems - there are few good lenses at flea markets and they will have to wait for months or place an order with a prepayment from Japan through the only dealer - Onlinetrade. At the moment, matrices on Foveon will be of interest only to geeks who are ready to invest in the system. The limitations of Foveon matrices are known: not particularly wide DD (on the SD-1 Merrill and SD Quattro it is about the same as on the 5D Mk3, on the SD Quattro H (APS-H matrix) it is not much wider. Narrow working ISO range (up to 200). Shooting itself on Sigma it resembles the process on older Canon cameras - you need to constantly monitor the exposure in the frame. Overexposed parts of the frame are heavily stretched in the converter. Cameras on Foveon can interestingly display shades of blue, red (shades of pink, violet, purple, etc.). They do not embellish colors like Fading or Healing, but shades of red or blue may look different. And such a moment - cameras on Foveon require more skill of the photographer than Fuji (both new and old scratches or Heals). I did not buy Kodak DSC SLR / n or SLR / c because there are even more pitfalls, and getting the “correct” color is even more difficult than from Foveon. It needs some dances with a tambourine and amateur presets, I honestly have neither the energy nor the time for that.

By the way, today ACR has already learned how to develop good sigma shots) There is even a lens profile, although it was not there before.

        • Dmitry Kostin

Honestly, I myself have not tried to twirl the X3M in ACR, but I saw it from Japanese owners - they tried to twist it in their native Sigma Photo Pro and in ACR and laid out comparisons. The result was different and in the native converter it was still nicer to the eye.
BUT, it was about a year and a half ago, maybe something was improved.
I sold my SD1 and can't test it anymore.

      • Dima

And what is interesting from sigma, you can get an interesting color just by playing with the bb. I agree that she does not embellish, but simply conveys colors in her own way. Well, I'm not going to talk about the fact that the picture is transparent. Only sigma gives this)

Arkady and all, all readers of the wonderful nationwide blog, hello! Could you please share your knowledge if you are in the know? I have been the owner of S3 Pro for almost half a year. The other day I had a chance to try to work with her in a studio with artificial light - I tried to apply the local synchronizers to my S3 - nothing worked, it didn't burn. Synchronizers are working properly, they worked on other, younger cameras, specifically on Canon - on 5D mark IV, 6D, 600D. Synchronizers are universal, not only for Canon, but they did not fit my Protroyka. I try to search the Internet, ask some of the Troeks' owners, but so far I haven’t been able to find out anything. Maybe someone here knows which devices are suitable? Thanks a lot in advance, Mikhail

      does a regular flash work?

      • Michael

Built-in native chamber works. And I have not yet acquired any SB-flashes attached to the shoe, therefore I don’t know, but I have a need and a goal to get them in the near future.

        • Arkady Shapoval

          make sure the shoe works

        • Aleksey68

need to be checked with a flash.
or, you can wire the PC-sync connector on the front of the camera to the syncronizer. internally, the pins of the hot shoe and this connector are not parallel. in any case, this is how it is in Nikons. so if the hot shoe ignition key is faulty, the key on the connector will be alive.

    • Aleksey68

looked at the service manual for the protroyka. yes, the control of the central contact on the shoe and on the PC-Sync connector is separate, two independent triacs.

      • Michael

Along the way, the shoe itself on my S3 Pro is in order: I checked it by installing a Nikon SB-28 flash on it - everything works.

Many thanks to everyone! I will sort this out!
PS still a burning question for connoisseurs. When developing in native Hyper Utility 3, is it better to save (taking into account the further output for post-processing in Ph or Lr) in Tiff 16 bits or is it 8 bits if you need to preserve the maximum quality without further losses? I came across information that was stored in Tiff 8 bits. And in Hyper Utility 3 itself, is there really such a small correction functionality? Only the most basic - temperature, sharpness (only 3 levels of gradation), illumination (at least there is more here), D-range and Color Tone. Or I haven't found something yet? I confess that finding these tools was not an easy task without that, I shoveled so many things on the net, the comment thread came to the rescue just on Radozhiv, where Arkazhiy explained this to another person. If anyone knows what other secrets in terms of the highest quality development in the native converter - write, I will be glad to have such valuable information for myself. About D-range for all 400, though, of course, I know)
    Thanks in advance, Mikhail

Best of all in TIFF 16 bit, and then other editors. However, JPEG with maximum quality does not always feel worse.

      • Michael

        THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Does it make sense in the camera settings to set the Sharp to Hard when shooting with the S3 Pro (and I would also be curious about the S5)? The question implies only shooting in Raw and further development in Hyper Utility 3. Does it even make sense when shooting in Raw to set any settings in the unit itself, if then you are going to easily click all these parameters to the maximum with the mouse when working in the native utility? Maybe Raw will be written faster when setting the minimum values? It's just that if this is really so, then it is not clear to me why they are also provided in the cell - it could have been done without them, there would be less hassle and costs in terms of production. On the other hand, it is possible that the manufacturer thought over and took into account that not everyone will have this utility and development, accordingly, will be done in unknown ways: here, they say, they decided to insert such Raw settings for safety net (although in the same “antique ”(Like HY3) S7Raw, working with SuperCCD, sharpening is). I'm not saying anything about JPEG, it's clear about it.

    • Arkady Shapoval

It won't be faster. Some of the settings, like w2, are required even for RAW. The rest is for convenience - if the user just wants to quickly convert RAW-> TIFF / JPEG, and also see (although it is loudly said for c3) the result immediately on the display. All modern cameras work the same way.

Does anyone know how to correct autofocus in Fuji? I have one lens that has a little backfocus and on all Nikons with this there is no breakdown. I couldn’t find such a menu item here ((

    • Arkady Shapoval

      There is no such possibility
