Cameras Nikon D5200, D5300, D5500, D5600 и D3500 do not know how to measure exposure with lenses that do not have microprocessor contacts. When using manual lenses (with manual focus and without CPU contacts), these cameras can only operate in the 'M' mode. When taking a photo, the options excerpts, aperture and ISO must be selected manually by trial and error.
However, if you set the 'Manual Video Adjust' option to 'On' in the menu, the current settings will be displayed in Live View. exposure... Having chosen the desired aperture value on the lens and the desired ISO value in the camera menu, all that remains is to select the shutter speed. In this case Live View will show the current exposure... Then you can release the shutter.
For some cameras, you will need to additionally press the 'OK' button in Live View mode to preview exposure at the set values excerpts, aperture and ISO. With some cameras it will be possible to display a live histogram as well.
With models Nikon D90, D7500, D3100, D3200, D3300, D3400, D5000, D5100 (which have Live View, but no aperture rheostat) this focus does not work.
More information on working with Nikon cameras and lenses without CPU contacts (mostly manual optics) can be found in the 'Working with older Nikon lenses '' and 'Old optics on Nikon'.

how easy it is to shoot with kenon. the exposure meter works even on an empty mount.
Yes, only with confirmation of focusing trouble))
It's very “simple” to shoot something faster than flowers, yes))
I have no problem focusing on manual glasses on kenon. about the same as on any UPC I shoot.
It remains only to inform what or:
1. There is a chip
2. Crutch in the form of uncomfortable ml
3. Nothing is faster than flowers.
three options
1.Chip EMF, programmable, I have a table of focus offsets in millimeters, so I don't need to adjust for a long time.
2. some of my cameras have been redesigned, they have a microcontroller that emulates a lens. essentially the same chip, but with my program. With the help of the ML module I added, I can change its parameters more flexibly than in the case of the EMF chip.
3. In LV mode with ML support, you can shoot in the same way as on the UPC, how exactly to do this I wrote repeatedly in many places.
Well, here it is.
On Nikon, the chip also adds the ability to measure exp (on any cameras, not only on older ones), and a focus trap.
And what's the difference?)
1. in that it is a kenon, it is much more convenient. wrote more than once what exactly.
2. the ability to adjust focus very accurately. more accurate than using the focus correction built into some cameras.
besides, it is extremely difficult to shoot in LV with Nikons.
Everything is a little more complicated. If the camera is a little higher in class, then Nikon additionally opens
1.Automatic iris control on manual AI, AIS, and PRE-Ai converted lenses. That is, on the same Helios-81N, you always focus on the open one, while the shutter is released, the diaphragm is automatically closed to the set value. And so with all the old optics
2.Correct EXIF (older cameras program manuals, any)
3.confirmation of focusing (works on all Nikon CCDs, including these unpretentious ones)
on older nikons, yes, it is possible to prescribe non cpu lense parameters, however, you cannot put arbitrary optics on nikons, and almost any optics can be used on kenon. besides, on (many) cameras it is impossible to put old nikkors on (many) cameras without cutting the skirts, which, you must admit, cannot but annoy. whereas on kenon I put them without problems. paradox, adynak))
at the same time, you will not install native canon fd / fl on canon, which, too, should be annoying. Again, it's not that simple
there are not so many of them. I am satisfied that I can put almost all good old glass. which I do)) in addition, kenon is more convenient ergonomics, excellent color in JPEG (not all cameras, of course), and also the fact that with the help of ML I can do almost anything with the camera. I write the necessary modules myself.
>> canon more comfortable ergonomics
Further it was possible not to continue))))
I have several kenon cameras including one. there is simply nothing more convenient. among other things, kenon is easier to repair. and overall reliability is higher.
Personally, I really like the ergonomics of the Nikons, and the Canon's - annoying.
Reliability is possible, but just for the convenience of the canon ... Okay, we will not)) Everything is individual, everyone has different anatomy, for whom the canon is quite comfortable, probably.
I shot many different canons and nikons, the canon is much more logical in terms of control. Well, about the fact that getting the desired color and bb on canon is many times faster (especially on faces) and without dancing with a tambourine, I am already silent)
So urban color legends arrived)) And then the newcomers read such stories, but they get brown faces by default, and landscapes filled with jaundice (where it is out of place never), and they think that it should be so))
Any camera must be able to cook and the canon is never an exception here.
Yes, we already understood that your kenon is the best, stop praising him
“On (many) cameras you can't put old Nikkor skirts without having drunk the skirts, which, you must admit, cannot but annoy.”
What kind of old lenses did you want to attach to Nikon's F mount - it was the same from 1958 until the new Z mount. And you don't need a SAW. Just use your brain when trying to connect different eras. Although the word "perepil" may explain ...
The bayonet is the same, but the specifications are different. NON-AI, they are also PRE-AI are not physically installed on some DCC. When trying to attach the lens, it will either jam tightly or tear off the rheostat or the EE lever. Details here https://radojuva.com/2012/06/nikon-ai-s-old-lens-about/
Please be a little more polite and tolerant. Not everything is so simple, even if it seems very strongly that the bayonet is one.
I'm sorry, I was wrong If possible - delete my comment. Thanks for the correctness.
here is just the first thing that fell on the eye - nikkor 50 1.4 SC and nippon kogaku 105 2.5, they cannot be put on modern cameras, because the aperture ring rests against the aperture rheostat lever.
this is true for any Nikon F lenses up to the K or AI series, these are commonly called Non-AI (that is, without AI / AIS) or PRE-AI (preceding AI / AIS)
well, the person above wanted an example, I wrote it))
thanks for the topic ... many Nikonists do not understand how to shoot with manual glasses in LV mode with exposure simulation, the most interesting thing is that in such models as 5200 \ 5300 this is done easily by setting the video mode to manual, but in the advanced 7500 they could not detect such ... there is some that solution?
7500 is not only advanced, but also stripped down.
The exposure meter does not work correctly on every kenon. On dimes, everything is fine, but on 40-ke - complete nonsense when covering the diaphragm is obtained. To be fair, it should be noted that in live view everything is measured correctly.
I didn’t shoot for such an antiquity, but I see no reason why it shouldn’t work correctly. the oldest, on which I tried manual optics - 50D, from ordinary cameras. and so, even on units there are no problems with manuals. most likely someone is doing something wrong.
Arkady, I just thought that you have a lot of readers on the forum with the name Alexey, so I'll rename myself, make a note or something else. now I will be Aleksey68, and you will know exactly who writes about technology and electronics))
Born in 1968?
But you have one icon, you can't confuse it with another Alexei.
yes, '68. but I don't see any icon here. just an empty square under it. however, it doesn't matter at all.
and all the icons see ...
that's what i see
sadness, something needs to be corrected in the hosts
very aptly said. just there you don't need to edit anything. because everything is spelled out as it should)) I have blocked all the rubbish and garbage of the network - several thousand servers.
I personally see you with mail and ip
to Victor. In order not to be accused of PHOTO racism, I will say that among other cameras in my collection there are Nikons. exactly three cameras, which, in my opinion, are among the best in Nikon. they do not make me idiosyncratic. although I won't say that I enjoy shooting with them, but, in general, quite nice cars.
I wonder if you can name them? :) (these are pretty old cameras)
200/300/700? : D
ideologically you almost guessed it))
D2Xs, D300s, D3s (and seven hundred is soooo horror, I would not have seen it for ages)
Come on, a normal camera, maybe it does not shine with reliability and maintainability (again, according to words), but in terms of convenience and the picture, everything is in order with it))
someone to shoot, someone to repair. Priorities
I have no particular complaints about the 3 picture. but on top of that ... I think this is perhaps the most unfortunate camera in Nikon. (among older cameras, we are not talking about any 5xxx and 3xxx soap dishes) XNUMX and was developed and produced with a lot of errors and compromises. however, now there is no point in remembering her - she was removed from support and it is good. older cameras, such as the ones listed above, have no problem to repair and configure. AF tuned in all cameras at all points ideally, and at three hundred (s), I would say, almost the best AF among all cameras. except for completely new missile defense cameras and except for the kenon units. in some cases its AF is more accurate than that of the DXNUMXs, oddly enough.
"In some cases, its AF is more accurate than that of the D3s, oddly enough."
It seemed to me that the D3s AF is always faster and more accurate than the D700.
And the built-in color profile in the D3s is so good (compared to the D700) that you can even shoot directly in camjpg, provided the photo is correctly exposed.
Curiously, the D3s has a thinner AA filter on the matrix. I took pairwise pictures from 35/2D on D700 and D3s - D3s was a little sharper everywhere. Apertures, ISO, shutter speeds were the same.
and where does the seven hundred, if we are talking about three hundred?
And, I beg your pardon, I looked in the wrong direction.
I didn’t have D300s, so I can’t say anything, and I don’t suffer from sofa theories, so I’ll take my word for AF in D300s.
Although in my opinion, D3s has it almost perfect.
I completely agree, I have both of them - D700 and D3s, the latter is several heads higher, not only functionally and mechanically (although his rubber bands come off !!!!), but also in terms of sharpness and quality of the resulting images. Focus also works better.
Arkady, but the question was born. I read this "With some cameras it will be possible to display a live histogram." and I ask - can it draw a histogram using RAW or traditionally, only using JPEG? or don't you know exactly?
I do not know
How easy it is, just - just, to have minimal knowledge (at least) and to install the expo-pair "by eye". At the same time, realizing that in this case there will be underexposure or overexposure by 1 stop, for example. All this concerns photographers, not owners of cameras for taking pictures of flowers - food - cars. Read books, try, there is more than enough information on the Internet, instead of pressing all the buttons in a row and waiting for a miracle ..
And of course it's better on film :)
Formatted.
And, of course, no cars, food, flowers. Otherwise, do not work!
“How easy it is, just - just, to have minimal knowledge (at least) and to install an expo-pair“ by eye ”. "
And at any time of the day, with any light and lens.
“At the same time, realizing that in this case there will be underexposure or overexposure by 1 stop, for example. "
And even at +/- 2-3 steps ... Just something ...
"Read books, try, there is more than enough information on the Internet"
Mikhail, do you shoot like that all the time? And always put the expo-pair by eye?
Can I see your photos?
No, Dmitry, I don't always shoot like that. I use the “manual” mode with old, non-autofocus optics when shooting portraits, almost always. Also, I use this mode when photographing with mechanical film cameras. I started to learn to photograph in 1981, therefore, I have no problems in determining the exposure pair without an exposure meter. This does not mean that I do not use it at all - in complex scenes. where there is combined lighting, the esponometer helps, of course.
My respect.
I wouldn't risk it (and buy an external light meter), especially at current film prices.
sometimes I go for a walk with novice girls, and sometimes they take pictures with Nikons, although most of them are still with Kenons (ooooooo rarely anyone has a Sony and no one has a Pentax). Since I have a lot of different optics, I give beginners with Nikon something old manual. since exposure metering does not work on such lenses on their toy cameras, I use my kenon as a light meter and tell them the required shutter speed :)
to Victor
"So the city color legends have arrived))"
tell me, did you shoot on 1D ... or 1Ds ...?
I didn’t shoot, but I saw WHAT it turns out for some with 1d-ds. It would be better not to see))
Therefore, I am sure that the camera as a whole is secondary, and all these "canon for portraits, nikan for landscapes" are nothing more than urban legends, yes.
I shot, I have ones. without any problems, the ideal skin tone is obtained immediately in JPEG. Sobssno, one and designed for accurate shooting immediately in JPEG.
In general, as observations show, everyone has their own, "ideal" in his opinion, skinton))
However, if you do not spoil the color of ones by intentionally crooked hands, it is usually decent by default. What not to say about some other canons :-)
formally, there is a test picture with the correct colors, the "Khakamada test" can be found on the net, it was made, oddly enough, by the Pentax specialists.
Alexey, plus.
It is better to shoot yourself, and not judge by someone else's photos.
I got used to Canon was harder than to Fujam (any).
Unusual DPP after Capture NX-D and camera control.
Now I like everything, before there were mistakes and completely unsuccessful pictures.
With Fujami it was somehow easier, despite the Byzantine converter of the Hyper-Utility Software HS-V3.
Now I am glad that I took a chance, bought and that in general I have this experience of working with Units, now in general it does not matter what to shoot. They already trusted me with 5DMk3, 5DSR on the set, in general, I'm already used to it. The main thing is that the technique is pleasing, and if a hobby brings some pretty penny, then it is generally wonderful. Therefore, I don't understand fanboy by any brand in 2021. Of course, it's sad to build up a fleet of lenses, and then sell everything on Avito, but I've seen such examples more than once.
the units of both systems are fine, but the canon is closer to me. although there are sometimes problems with the repair of canon units. it has become difficult to find spare parts for them, unlike Nikon units, but it is still possible. the only thing I don't like about kenon units is no display. it's hard to get used to when shooting DO NOT look at what happens))
Alexey, show, in your opinion, the ideal skin tone from one, if possible. It is interesting to see whether we are talking about the same thing or not. It is interesting to compare with Nikon.
And then I already, you know, have seen enough of a multi-colored trash-skin tone from one collector of Protroeks, Propyatok and Units, who also has a lot of words about pictures, but in fact ... In general, I believe that they can do better :)
Taking this opportunity, I want to thank you for trying to dissuade me from buying a Canon 28-70 (it seems you were :))
I took a chance and turned out to be wrong. What was wrong - I understood in the service (and on my wallet) when they showed me a pile of glass and metal called 28-70 and the other of which consisted of 24-70 / 2.8.
24-70 / 2.8 is noticeably easier to repair and adjust. 28-70 / 2.8 restored (disassembling the lens unit and gluing-re-gluing problem lenses, then an unsuccessful assembly of this all, then again a bulkhead, and then a complete bulkhead in another service). In general, there is experience, albeit negative and very costly.
And at the expense of Units - I saw a lot of positive on flickr, heard positive from you and somehow Arkady even wrote something in passing, decided to take a chance and buy himself. As a result, I am very glad that I took a chance :)
