“China's Samyang AF 85 / 1.4 RF is the first autofocus lens from a third party manufacturer for Canon RF”.
    Not Korean?

    • UstasFritZZZ

By the way, yes, I was confused too. Kind of like Samyangi has always been Korean

It is very sad to realize that the era of DSLRs with their chic optical viewfinders and the clap of a mirror so dear to the soul of every photographer is passing away ...

    • Hansrunda.

I think the DSLRs will not go away completely, there will be something like Lake rangefinders now

      • Molchanov Yuri

The mirrors will not completely go away for one simple reason - there are many people with farsightedness in the world.
I'm 51 and had to wear glasses (+1, but still). As much as I tried to catch focus on the Sony Alpha 7 II in manual mode, nothing worked. And with glasses, well, it's wildly uncomfortable. With my Canon 5D III, this problem does not exist in principle. I understand that 96% of Japanese people with glasses are people with myopia, especially children http://www.livedoor.com/?utm_source=news&utm_medium=rd
Apparently this circumstance prevents one from thinking about the rest of the world. But no image correction in the electronic viewfinder will help here, because of the peculiarity of the “+” problem.

        • Seladir

          Focus picking?

    • Molchanov Yuri

I agree. Sorry for the mirrors.

    1) There were even several 108MP phones from Samsung and Xiaomi (Mi Note 10 / 10Pro, Mi10 / Mi10Pro, Mi10T Pro and after NG, Mi11 will be released to Chinese NG)
    8) "mirror crop is almost extinct"
In general, both buyers and manufacturers seem to have cooled to Crop. The only one who tries to release something on the crop is Fuji. True BZK.
    10) "Nikon D2020 and Canon EOS-6D X Mark III, announced in early 1, are likely to be the last of their kind due to the invasion of mirrorless cameras."
After studying the comments on foto_ru to the branches on the new Canon R5 / R6 and drawing attention to the abundance of Units on Avito, I concluded that the owners of the old Units, Pyatakov, EOS R / Rp are almost massively leaving for new items. The reason is AF, DD and other buns that budget R / Rp could not give.

To the disastrous clauses 11/12/18, I would add Fuji's interest in migration to China.
The X-T4 is made in China, unlike its predecessor.

I have one new thing this year - the purchase of film cameras and shooting with film SLRs, after 17 years.
And the second - participation in the photo competition JNTO and National Geographic - "A country where everything is different."
I may not be included in the number of winners, but on the Old Arbat 15/43 for a month my photo hung next to the photo of the winners.

  • Victor

The most powerful news is at number 18 :-)

  • Natalia

It's nice to know that the photo is developing and will continue to develop

  • Oleg

Well, in general, with the coming of all

  • Oleg

The Canon EOS 850D (North American name - Rebel EOS T8i) is Canon's EOS family of DSLRs, continuing the EOS Digital line of amateur models. Introduced on February 12, 2020, replacing the EOS 800D [1]. It turns out not one cropped SLR camera was presented in 2020 infa from Wikipedia

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Fixed
She really is on the list of announcements :)

  • Seladir

From cropped DSLRs, you can also add 90D - a pretty cool device on a new matrix, which Canon is unlikely to reuse (crop from R? ..)

    • Seladir

Oh-oh, that's what I confused with the chronology. And it seems like it was recently.

    • Victor

There is a small hope that Canon will not continue to go crazy and still will not reuse this sensor in other crop carcasses.

The density of megapixels is prohibitive both for a one and a half crop and for a full frame, no one else uses this.

      • Seladir

What negative aspects make you hope that this sensor will not be used?
I must say right away that I am very little concerned with the fate of individual pixels. And evaluating the picture as a whole according to DPReview tests, I see that this matrix gives more information at low ISO than 24MP competitors from Sony and Fuji, and at high ISO we get approximate parity, although Canon used to traditionally lag a little in this regard.

        • Pokemon

          1) "than 24MP competitors from Sony and Fuji"
          26MP back-illuminated competitor from Fuji.
The 24MP matrix will be removed completely next year.
          2) "and at high ISO we get approximate parity"
Above ISO400, the new Canon sensor begins to have problems that already make themselves felt at ISO800 and beyond.
At 3200, the result is mostly non-working.
This is not from tests, but from the reviews of the owners. Most people noticed that the camera with the new sensor began to make noise earlier.

          • Pokemon

The 90d and m6 mk2 have another problem - their price relative to the EOS Rp, 6D mk2 and the gray EOS R. The understanding photographers have a common desire to save money by taking the 80d, and the understanding that there are almost no optics capable of resolving this matrix.

            • Sergei

              I bought an SV 205 astrocamera with a small pixel - 1,4 × 1,4 microns.

The camera has many shortcomings, but interesting data on the picture from one

lens on matrices with different pixel sizes.

Sigma 105mm / 2.8 lens with set aperture of 8.0.

A lens with a small pixel matrix gives a much better picture.
              https://evtifeev.com/76018-obzor-teleskopa-meade-etx125-observer.html#comments

              • Alexey

The left picture shows 7 times fewer megapixels.

              • Victor

It is absolutely natural that the picture is better, if only because the viewing angle on this camera came out several times smaller (the matrix is 10 times smaller in area !!! decrease in quality.

            • Maksim

Oh, pokemosha. There are such optics

        • Victor

If you don't care about the fate of the individual pixels (which make up the picture), then how do you think of using those 34MP? The number of pixels is, IMHO, absolutely unreasonable for a crop (ff with the same pixel density would be under 90MP, until no manufacturer thought of this)

          Just look at these cards.
          https://www.flickr.com/photos/140490956@N02/50576224273/
          https://www.flickr.com/photos/140490956@N02/50241167266/

On the first - generally ideal lighting conditions, almost a top-end crop lens, minimal ISO.

And what do we have? There is a uniform unpleasant noise in the image even in light areas, the foliage is mushy, the branch on the left, in the shade above the water is generally smeared to the point of mixing with the wall.

On the second is the "usual", which is nevertheless considered quite good, fresh whale version for the 90d - I don’t undertake to comment on what is happening in this frame at all, evaluate it yourself.

I also think there is no need to explain what can be observed in these pictures on ISO, different from the basic one.

You see, if you bet on 34 megapixels, then at least so that after of them at least (!!) on the basic ISO you get an excellent picture. There is no such thing here, for obvious reasons.

In my opinion, a reasonable balance on the verge of good and evil for a crop is 24 megapixels, ideally about 20. 34 is pure marketing.

          • Seladir

By the fate of individual pixels, I mean this kind of comparison, where photos from 24MP and 34MP matrices will lead to small crops and will be viewed at 100% scale. Like, look, but there is more noise. The fact that in this case there will be degradation at the level of individual pixels does not mean that an increase in their number will not cover it. That is, moving away from individual pixels, I am interested in the fate of 100%, 20% of the frame, and so on - how they will look.

According to the first photo, it is very similar to jpg artifacts (the file size is small for this resolution) and the consequences of pulling shadows. The image was processed in Photoshop. Personally, I find it difficult to draw any conclusions in such conditions. Paired comparisons would be more revealing.

            • Victor

Their increase just does not cover the degradation. I compared prints from 24MP Nikon and 34MP Canon sensors (bringing it to 24MP size) - the image from Nikon looks cleaner, while retaining the fine structure.

Of course, the frames presented are not the only ones, I have not seen a single frame from new sensors where the picture would correspond to the resolution (unlike, for example, the same fifty megapixel FF 5Ds), which only means that an increase in megapixel does not lead to an increase in quality images, but only to an increase in the size of the equal and, as a consequence, an increase in the load on the PC as a whole. Senseless.

By the way, exactly the same story with m6-2. Yes, you can compare all this yourself, examples of images are available in full resolution, there are not so few owners.

Actually, this is why no other manufacturer wants to increase the resolution above 24-26mp for crop and 20 mp for m4 / 3.

      • Pokemon

The new crop sensor is still in:
        Canon EOS 90D
        Canon EOS M6 MarkII

  • Seladir

It is surprising how easily mobile manufacturers increase the number of megapixels so that this does not affect the cost of smartphones at all, including budget ones, and that in the field of cameras it is necessary to suffer the transition from ~ 24 to something over 40 in the field of cameras. not otherwise.

    • Rodion Eshmakov

And in smartphones, is the native resolution always so high?

      • Seladir

Not always, but in most cases, you can enable native resolution mode in the settings. At the same time, the default is usually to group pixels by 4 or 9 in the early stages of signal processing.

      • Pokemon

I heard a similar question at the start of the Nokia 808 and 1020 ... they had this mode.

    • Pokemon

Why is it not reflected in the cost of smartphones. It is fully reflected.
Xiaomi has significantly risen in price, in rubles, at least. And all models with 108MP cameras are not cheap.
Samsung has the same thing - do you want 108MP? Pay $$$.
It is better to look at the physical size of the matrix and focus only on it. The number of MPs is now managed by marketers ...

      • Andrei

        Oh, those rubles ...

      • Vlad

The question is that, for example, A7r4 is 3 times more expensive than A7 3, with the same physical matrix size. And in smartphones, the transition from 12-16 to 48-64 mpx occurred without increasing prices, while the physical size of the new matrices is much larger. And the cost of 64 and 108 differs from strength by 15-20%

        • Arkady Shapoval

yes, there are already from 1/2 to 1 / 1.33 inches, as in compacts (this is better than, for example, 1 / 2.5 inches in the cheapest digital compacts). But the old Nokia 1 has not yet reached 1.2 / 808.

          • Pokemon

            Getting close:
            “S20 Ultra and Mi 10 Pro have the same 1 / 1.33” sensors with 0.8µm pitch but with different color filters - the Galaxy uses Nona-Bayer RGGB (3 × 3), while the Mi 10 Pro uses Quad-Bayer RGGB (2 × 2). "

        • Victor

Where are there three times then? A7-3 has an MSRP of $ 2000, a7rIV has $ 3500.

In addition, the photo-video function is not the main function of a smartphone, unlike a camera. And the further increase in the number of megapixels on the 1/2 ″ matrix has practically no effect on the overall picture detail.

          • Vlad

I agree, not 3, but 2 times. But there the sensor size is the same. And in smartphones, the sensor size directly depends on the resolution - the pixel size is the same everywhere, 0.8 microns. And to understand the difference in cost between 64 and 108, you need to look at the difference between s20 + and s20 ultra, for example. Either mi note 10 lite and mi note 10.

            • Victor

Again. Taking photographs is not the main function of a smartphone, unlike a camera. And the increase in the quality of the picture in the camera (if there is any at all) affects the cost of the smartphone not in the same proportion as the cost of the device. This is the norm © :)

      • Seladir

        Well, 108 - let's say it's still not free, but 64 - quite.
I don't mean that this megapixel boost is useful - I am citing this as an illustration of how easy it is to do. And yes, the rapidly growing matrix size in smartphones is real progress, and if we supplement it with some convenient sensor resolution for 4K video without binning and crop (that is, ~ 12MP), then here it is the optimum.

        • Vlad

And that's why the best video is still in iPhones, where "only" 12 mrh. And there is even stabilization in 4k60r!
By the way, at 12, about Max they brought matrix stabilization, or something like that. It will be interesting to see what this will give

          • Pokemon

A matrix stabilizer on cameras is in flagship smartphones from any self-respecting manufacturer in 2021.
“And that's why the best video so far is on iPhones, where“ only ”12 mrh. "
For video shooting, many bloggers recommend: Sony ZV-1, Olympus GH-5s, Fuji X-T4 (enough money for that). If there are not enough of them: GoPro Hero 9 Black or DJI Pocket 2 (it has become very popular among Japanese street bloggers who write 4K on it and immediately upload it to youtube. DJI Pocket 2's progress relative to DJi Osmo Pocket is very serious.
Only amateurs seem to be filming video on the phone now.
The point is to take an iPhone12 Pro Max for a lot of money, when can you buy DJi Pocket2 instead and a good smartphone for delivery? When buying an expensive smartphone, you need to be ready to change the battery in it after 2 years, and after 2-3 more updates will stop coming.

            • Vlad

This refers to the best video among smartphones. As far as I know, ois-stabilization with lens shift in the lens was used before. Of course, a specialized device is better and cheaper, but everyone still needs a smartphone. A bundle of a regular smartphone + camera will cost the same as a flagship smartphone, but at the same time much larger and heavier. Despite the fact that the quality of video from an iPhone is sufficient for any amateur shooting. And in most cases for blogging. They even shoot films on the iPhone, and it turns out well

“A bundle of an ordinary smartphone + a camera will cost the same as a flagship smartphone, but at the same time much larger and heavier. "
Not a fact - both in terms of money and in terms of size and weight (just look at the dimensions of the DJi Pocket2).

“Despite the fact that the quality of video from an iPhone is sufficient for any amateur shooting. "
For the money they ask for the 12th, he has to sing and dance. However, no: improvements relative to the previous generation are minuscule, and the most painful thing is that the batteries have become LESS in capacity (this is a paradox, by the way - they ask for so much money, well, you can finally put a capacious battery for once, but no, and this was done on purpose).
You can shoot a film on an iPhone if you have a good steadicam and a high-quality microphone, I don't argue that I've seen such films. However, most of them were post-processed.

Apple hides a curious moment the physical size of the matrix of the main camera 12Pro max. Those. there is nothing to boast about - otherwise they would have blown everywhere that “we have the most”.

              • Vlad

The size of the matrix is easy to calculate based on the viewing angle (ether) and the real FR, which is in exif. Or via the pixel size that Apple specifies. In iPhones 7-8-X, it just turns out about 1 / 2.3

            • Vlad

By the way, dji pocket 2 has a 1 / 1.7-inch matrix, as in many inexpensive smarts. The only difference is the built-in steadicam. Better then buy dji osmo mobile 4 for $ 150

              • Pokemon

"Dji pocket 2 matrix 1 / 1.7 inches, as in many inexpensive smarts."
Whose sensor is there, I never found, alas.
1 / 1.7 ″ I still do not remember in what inexpensive smarts it is installed, after all, the physical size is large for inexpensive solutions.
The main thing is to shoot well at twilight without post-processing:

By the way, Canon once put 1 / 1.7 ″ sensors in his soap boxes:
                Canon PowerShot S95, S100, S110, S120.
                *
                1 / 1.7 ″ smartphones with 64MP appeared in a year: Omnivision OV64C, Samsung ISOCELL GW1, Sony IMX686.

                Arkady, you found quickly :-)
Yes, amazing. Something I lagged behind life - for the last 2-3 a lot has changed.
I wonder how these models shoot in reality ...
                Previously, the ultimate dream was 1 / 1.2 ″ Nokia 808 and 1 / 1.5 ″ 1020)
                Later - 1 / 2.3 ″ on android phones.
In iPhones, it is not clear what the main sensor actually is.
In short, we urgently need to take the new 11 Xiaomi with its 108MP :-)

              • Arkady Shapoval

I have in detail here described how to shoot.

Some of the Big Three's competitors will definitely remember this, and over time everyone will come to their senses, I hope. Some cameras will continue to use a mirror or some kind of purely optical viewfinder.

    • Andrei

Put on your glasses ... Mdaaa. Is it hard to remember the difference between “dress” and “don”?

  • Victor

Dressed up Nadezhda approves of your comment, and Grammar Nazi could add a comment about “didn’t try” and commas. But this is not the main thing.

I'm wondering - shouldn't the EVF diopter correction in mirrorless cameras help the problem of both myopic and farsighted people? It is interesting to hear the comments of the author.

    • Alexey

I will answer like a mole rat with minus seven. no, diopter correction is often simply not enough. Besides, no matter how much I tried to look at the EVF of various cameras, I can't, my eyes are watering almost instantly. yes, there are many problems with BZK in people with vision problems. I can hardly shoot on DSLRs, but still I can, but on the BZK I can't. at all.

  • SashOK

In general, the result is this; China, China, CHINA ... and a little Nikon and Kenon.

    • SashOK

And I forgot; Thought this senseless megapixel race was over ...
      I hear contemptuous laughter;)
With the growing popularity of telephony, it resumed at a faster pace and with more marasmic figures of 40, 60, 100 megapixels. Bliiin is some kind of kick-ass.
I still understand when on a full-frame matrix or at least on a crop - 100 megapixels are shoved, BUT PANCAKE on a 5x6 mm smartphone shit ... WHY ???

      • Rodion Eshmakov

Computational photography is another approach in phones that is not available in budget crops. She forgives.

        • Arkady Shapoval

there is no real computational photography in expensive crops either, in general, on cameras with large sensors. The main reason is that they do not do one of the important things, namely software HDR stitching of a stream of images at a high frequency. Physically, they cannot do it, both because of the size of the sensor, and because of the capabilities of the CPU (in terms of load, this is approximately the same as continuous 8K 60p video recording).

          • Rodion Eshmakov

Exactly. And you still can't do it because of heat dissipation problems, for example.

      • Victor

In phones, all these 48, 60, etc. are practically not used, the final photo comes out with the merging of pixels and the corresponding noise reduction, as a result, two birds with one stone are killed - we act on the consumer's brain with a loud figure, at the same time getting quite good quality for a phone.

        • SashOK

Well, in general, yes. (artificially) bloated figures especially among the Chinese in the struggle for buyers' wallets.

          • Arkady Shapoval

Take a look at the section, “What's next?“, There I describe my own and other people's experience with telephones. Now (2 years ago) smartphones are mercilessly eating up the market share of amateur cameras. And not because there is 108 MP, but because the quality of the pictures fully satisfies the end user (even if it is an experienced amateur photographer). It has already gotten to the point that many beginners complain that their cameras shoot worse than their phones.

            • Alexey

A simple amateur photographer (especially not a amateur) mobile photography could satisfy almost a decade ago. Photo of 2012 from a vintage Sony Ericsson Ray. If then I took on a trip not this microbe, but, let, D90, then the final photo for presentation on the Internet would not be very different. Yes, and from compacts that were eaten by mobiles, it was not always possible to distinguish a photo from a DSLR.

      • Victor

And on crop and 34 (like 90d) megapixels are already redundant.

      • Arkady Shapoval

There are interesting technologies, Samsung Tetracell (analogue of Sony Quad Bayer) and Nonacell (analogue of Sony Nona Bayer) in which pixels are combined (literally, without marketing gimmicks) and with 108 MP exactly 12 “regular” megapixels come out. And if it’s all good to count, spice it up with built-in HDR, we get pictures that I can no longer distinguish from pictures taken with serious equipment.

        • Rodion

Good matrices, together with a special image processing technique on phones, really give a result sufficient to say that now the image quality is limited by the optics. Yes - all the same problems with large lenses are now visible in small ones.

    • Ivan

A small correction - Nikon is now also in China.

      • Victor

        "Now" since when?
As an educational program - production in China, including Nikon, has been carried out since 2002, and at the end of 2017 this plant was closed.
        Nikon is now Thailand.

        • Ivan

I agree, I was mistaken "slightly". Confused Thailand with Taiwan. China has an eye on Taiwan and will try to appropriate it at an opportunity.

      • SashOK

As Homer exclaims in "The Simpsons" when something didn't work out for him, or he finds out about some kind of garbage - "DOW !!!"
This is me about Nikon in China; (

        • Victor

Yes, in China, Thailand, or else the devil knows what islands - if only not in Russia, as in that joke - “the place is damned here” © :)

  • Oleg

I recently bought a girl a Samsung A-31 for exactly 200 euros on the computer, it was not possible to view the photo, but in the presence of an ultra-wide-angle camera I immediately remember my 10-18 for $ 300, and judging by the photo on the phone, it is quite sane. Nice amateur macro. The ability to programmatically blur the background is not 85 / 1.8, but it challenges the conditional 50 / 1.8 on the crop. There is a zoom function, most likely it is digital and not optical and uses the resource of 48 megapixels of the camera, well, that is, you sprinkle right away in the phone losing megapixels, but for a conventional man in the street, it does not matter whether it is optical or digital, it brings it closer and closer. Add here an instagram in a box with its false sponges and cilia, and it turns out that all these models from the conditional 1100d to, let's say, 800d with their 50 \ 1.8 and 10-18 can just walk in the forest

    • Oleg

It is possible to say about the price where a set of 250d with 10-18 and 50 \ 1.8 will cost you 1000 dollars, and a phone with such capabilities costs 200 euros, and not everyone sees the subtleties and nuances. Plus, all this is in a small case, which is always in your pocket, and carrying a DSLR with you is something else

  • Oleg

As for the 90d discussed here, something revolutionary compared to the 80d that I got at the price of $ 700 is not in it. She has more advanced video capabilities with the ability to shoot 4k plus 32 megapixels, which is clearly a lot. Moreover, there is essentially no optics for the crop that would allow these 32 mega-pixels. Only a 24mm pancake comes to mind and perhaps an old and overpriced 17-55 \ 2.8 and I'm not sure that it will pull these 32 megapixels. The camera was most likely produced as a reportage camera for the Tokyo Olympics, well, you can shoot birds in clear weather. Well, at its price, it competes with RP, which is preferable for a family home

    • Maksim

Is this RP with a poor battery preferable? Here 80D is no different from the 70th. 90 sticks are better than 80 sticks.

      • Pokemon

Well, I bought 1-2 more batteries and closed the problem.
        You can't buy another matrix.
