Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro frame buffer update

A quick note on buffer and continuous burst shooting on Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro.

I really like the camera Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro Is an old legendary camera with 12MP Super CCD SR II (6R MP + 6S MP) and Nikon F mount (the same Nikon Nikkor lenses fit as Nikon D200, on the basis of which Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro).

When working with Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro I was most annoyed by the serious brakes during burst shooting with D-Range 130-400% (when both types of subpixels are working on the sensor). Continuous shooting in RAW or JPEG or RAW + JPEG after 8-9 shutter releases always ends with the same - every subsequent shot Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro I did it every 2-3 seconds. Two to three seconds for one sync is a whole agonizing eternity during real photography. Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro I've always used with the fastest memory cards, so the problem was not with them. I have always believed that such brakes are just limitations of the processor, which does not have time to quickly process the received data, for example, as was the case with Nikon D100 and RAW / NEF compressed (40 seconds per frame!). But I was wrong. The limitations are partly related to the way the preview is implemented.

If you turn off the preview of images using the 'SETUP -> DISPLAY -> IMAGE DISPLAY -> OFF' function, then the camera is approximately Writes data 2 times faster, and a continuous series of frames with the maximum quality JPEG L FINE D-Range 130-400% (at ISO 100-1000) is about 20 shots (with a fast memory card), and subsequent frames are taken at approximately 1 fps. In real-life shooting conditions, this removes the terrible camera slowdown and allows you to use its maximum speed of 1.5 fps almost all the time. Disabling this function also adds one RAW or JPEG or RAW + JPEG image to the buffer (the buffer increases from 8 to 9 RAW, or from 7 to 8 JPEG, or from 7 to 8 RAW + JPEG). Now I understand how some photographers take 1-2 million shots at a rather slow Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro... Live and learn.

on the photo there is glass like mine, how lovely))

Does disabling preview on anything else give such an effect, or is it a unique feature of this device only?

    • Arkady Shapoval

Such a tangible effect is only in this case.

  • Dmitriy

I have been using this method for a long time on D1. There, when shooting in raw, previewing one photo takes about 8 seconds.

    Why enable preview at all?
Is it really interesting to watch every shot?
I turned it off on my devices (D800 and S5Pro). When I shoot, I looked at the histograms of a couple of frames by pressing the corresponding button. But I don’t understand to watch all the frames being photographed immediately after the descent.
But thanks for the info. And so we collect it bit by bit.

and yak chew hits at the tail?) suddenly by?)

I'm interested to see how the photo is exposed.
It so happens that you shoot, take a quick look without enlarging the photo, and take the next frame with an exposure compensation of -0,3EV.
To look at all frames in sharpness on the shooting itself (guided by the camera display) is an almost useless waste of time.
It is better to use a lens that is tested and does not smear beforehand.
