Helios with ultrasonic motor and image stabilizer

For the provided lens many thanks master Yura.

HELIOS-44-2 2/58 with ultrasonic motor and image stabilizer

HELIOS-44-2 2/58 with ultrasonic motor and image stabilizer

This overview shows lens adaptation HELIOS-44-2 2/58 for Nikon cameras.

Optics took from the lens HELIOS-44-2 2/58 with serial number 7726944 manufactured by the Jupiter Optical and Mechanical Plant, Valdai. Body and autofocus taken from the lens Nikon 18-55mm 1: 3.5-5.6G VR AF-S DX Nikkor SWM Aspherical... A quiet compact type ultrasonic motor, the stabilizer in the lens does not work, but the built-in stabilizer can work on Nikon Z5, Z6, Z7 cameras with the appropriate Nikon FTZ adapter. In the end, this is exactly what happens HELIOS-44-2 2/58 with ultrasonic motor and image stabilizer.

After rework Nikon 18-55 / 3.5-5.6G VR the zoom ring rotates but nothing moves mechanically. The VR stabilizer has been removed from the lens. The focus ring performs its function as usual. MDF is approximately 70 cm, focusing at infinity is maintained.

I already had an autofocus on the review MC HELIOS-44M-4 58mm 1: 2based on Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm 1: 1.8, MKII versionbut it lacked a built-in focus motor. With the new autofocus HELIOS-44-2 2/58 I can easily use the lens on a super cool camera Nikon D40 and please yourself with nice pictures. Seriously though, it's great that there are masters who adapt old lenses for autofocus.

  10. weight is 236 grams

Examples on Nikon D850 (Full Frame)

On the full frame, an excessive vignette appears from the fact that the objective lenses are deep in the frame of an unnatural body. This vignette often adds flavor to the final photos. Link per RAW file with Nikon D850.

Examples on Nikon D40 (APS-C, DX)

The frame of the body creates a kind of built-in hood, but the lens is still very afraid of backlight.

  • Vladimir

    Interesting refinement

  • Pokemon

Looking forward to reviewing the D850 soon? :)

  • vvs

Is the background lsd / swirling?

    • Trueash

As you can see from the photo, the curl is even stronger. This is due to the fact that the SWM rotates the focusing mechanism much faster than the hands of the photographer, respectively, it creates a more intense swirling of light waves ...
      [PURGOMET MODE = OFF]: D

      • xandrex

This is due to the fact that the master is not quite a master and he configured the lenses incorrectly, which caused a coma that resulted in a twisting effect

  • Yura

Oo. I have long been htіv autofocus helios. I here: on tobi.

Now, let's go to the ministry for mass production =)

  • Vlad

I wonder if it is possible to implement aperture setting with a zoom ring? It's not used anyway

    • Yuriy Buchara

Theoretically, a hassle is possible so that the block of diaphragms rotates at once with all the linzoblock

  • Vladislav

Yura is on social networks, can you please tell me?

  • A.N. Onim

Theorists broadcast that old optics do not allow modern small-pixel matrices, while practitioners successfully take pictures with it.

    • ry

We drag it and she does not allow. just look closely at the footage on the 850th

  • Eugene

The cost of the work of the master + Nikon AF-S 18-55 for disassembly + Helios 44-2 2/58 itself. Isn't it easier to just buy the Nikon AF-S 50 1.8 G? It's a pretty good lens. There is a new one just over 6000 gr. A BU can be bought up to 3500.

    • Roman

Easier. Like buying a new car, it's easier than restoring a rarity. But you never know, someone wants an autofocus Helios with its image character?

      • koba

I want and will definitely buy it as soon as the countries open ... I have been thinking about it for a long time. After all, it was with helios that I started photography ...

        • Jury

so the mail works from Ukraine, you can buy now. Complete with TOU / FIVE STAR MC 1: 2.8 f = 24mm NI from Arkady's last review :)

          • koba

Are you kidding? How much will it all cost in dollars? That is, the lens itself and the shipment? By the way, I have a Nikon D3s, it doesn't have a stabilizer, but I don't need it. As far as I understand, together with autofocus, the lens will focus to infinity without problems. I am asking because next month I will have money for my next lens, because just the other day I bought a Nikon 80-200 / 2.8 (III) for myself.

            • Jury

I was not joking, about 15 dollars a small parcel, but for the lens itself or two lenses - see the contacts in the reviews and write to the sellers

              • koba

Are you saying that a parcel from Ukraine in China costs only 15 dollars? And how much does the lens itself cost in dollars, modified by the method described in the article?

              • Arkady Shapoval

After all, it is indicated that $ 150. And the parcel really costs around $ 15.

              • koba

That is, it turns out for all this $ 165? I start saving money ...

    • Pokemon

They are different in the nature of bokeh and picture detail. On Helios mostly flowers, berries, portraits are taken. Street and landscapes are somehow not very good. Helios is not quite suitable for night shooting. But 50 / 1.8G is just better for this. These are slightly different lenses for their intended purpose.

  • Alex

Something is a little expensive for such work. There is no aperture, no vr. It's easy to do, you put the lens unit from the helios into the lens helicoid. You can use a variety of donors. Budget option)

    • Arkady Shapoval

If you undertook to do your options at human prices, and also did not refuse to everyone - maybe I would not even make this post. After all, many people asked and are asking about AF-Geliki, at first I sent users to you on fb, but then they wrote to me that they were unhappy with the price, timing and unwillingness to take on the job.
And here AF-S Helios at a quite adequate price, and even the master is ready to make them, and in different cases, and from 18-55 and from 50 / 1.8, and even with shipping across the CIS. At the same time, Helios is the most interesting just in the open. Well, if you want to show a class, then it would be great to make a similar solution with VR built into the lens itself :)

      • Alex

Arkady, I live in Italy and not Ukraine. As I said, it takes up to 5 days for a normally made lens with aperture and correctly adjusted. Now calculate how much an average worker earns in Ukraine and in Italy. In Italy, let's say the usual salary per hour will be 10-15 euros, a simple worker. For 5 days, 8 hours a day, this is, excuse me, at least 400 euros plus the lenses themselves donors and shipping. So what do you think how much should the lens itself cost? Well, 150 euros for work, how in this post, this is already a big bust, even at Italian prices. Insert the lens unit into an empty lens And ask only for such money for work, and in Ukraine?))) Yes, I told you that I am not going to make lenses for sale, since this it's just my hobby and I often do it as a gift, you are not the only one with such a lens. I gave you a lens as a gift for your work, and not with the intention of making an advertisement on it. Sometimes, of course, I do it to order, but for those who really appreciate it and understands.Video for modification would but also on the Internet, for those who want to try their hand. But of course I have neither the desire nor the time to teach everyone and tell everything. I myself do not have the 44th helios, although I have something to make of, there is no time .... And you offer to study this gift for sale. I’ll rather just make a long video on such modifications, believe me the benefits will be many times greater))) I don’t like lenses with a built-in motor, they often break, not reliable. Moreover, all my cameras with a screwdriver motor for focusing, well and I’m unlikely to buy a D40 or something similar. For work D700, D4s. For the soul of pro5 pro3 Nikon F5, Well, D70 is rare ...

        • Yura

The price is for ready optics, not for a robot

        • Yura

The first price is in dollars and not in euros *

          • Alex

Make lenses with aperture for this price and everyone will be happy, there is a demand.

            • Novel

I assure you the products of your design bureau, even for 300 euros, we will not see in life, it's not for you to talk about the price, it's funny

              • Nikich

the feeling of self-importance just played, it turns out that someone else is doing the alterations, and even cheaper. And what, comrade and the real thing was selling geliki for 1100 euros?

        • Arkady Shapoval

          1. I offered you only one thing - to make a VR lens, and then write in the comments that “no VR”. Just to show the level :)
          2. Yura makes a turnkey lens for $ 150 (corrected) (already with work), and therefore he greatly dumps prices, for the end consumer this is only a plus
          3. Your autofocus Gelik for 1100 euros - I think it's overkill. Even though you later indicated that this is, as it were, a conditional price. However, we understand that your price tags are different.
          4. I just think that your huge sign indicating mail “Oldlensess@yahoo.com” is just an advertisement, gifts are signed on behalf of, not by email :)
          5. For work d700 - do you work as a photographer?
          6. About motors - I think it's just an excuse, since you have a different technical process for creating af optics based on non-motorized solutions. By the way, Yura also does it on the basis of 50 / 1.8 for a screwdriver. And not only Geliki does it.
          7. A lot of users with amateur cameras without a motor, there are a lot of them. You just brushed them off.
          8. You are guided by Italy, but here we are guided by our realities.
          9. Yura makes lenses and is ready to do a lot of them. This is a microscopic market. You are not ready. This is the main reason I published this post.
          10. I consider it inappropriate and not tactful to interfere with the work of another master with such statements.

          • Neo

Tinplate and waste. I have not seen more bad taste and narcissism. I wouldn't have put this on camera for nothing !!! Yuri needs to do this too, and the price tag will rise immediately. All good!

          • Alex

Let me answer you for the last time, since such a discussion with some subtext and reproaches is not interesting to me.
1.In the article it is indicated that the lens with Vr, but on the sales website it was indicated that vr does not work, now it has been fixed. Well, it may seem)) I did lenses with an internal focusing motor, there is no magic there.
2.In the comments above, I read that this is the price for the work plus the lenses themselves, so it seemed too high to me.
            3. The autofocus gel was on ebay with a price of 999 euros, not 1100, since it was simply not available. Now, if you are interested in prices, 9999 euros. This does not mean that I sell them for so much)))
            4. You and I personally fingered a huge sign, I could not have made it at all. Note you Didn't want the inscriptions Arkady Shapoval on it, and the rest suited you.
Also, I DIDN'T ASK TO DO ANY REVIEWS, HAVE FORGOTTEN ????
            5. I do not work as a photographer, let alone a wedding))) But I consider the D700 to be a normal camera, and they themselves used it as a spare.
            6. I already wrote about motors, I did it with motors and a diaphragm on them.
7.I didn’t brush it off, if you read carefully, then it’s my hobby and I’m not doing it for profit, especially for amateurs.
8.I am oriented to Europe. Please answer, how much do you get paid for a wedding in Ukraine? And you think you know how much a photographer earns in Italy ??? Living in Italy would you work at Ukrainian prices?)))) For example, I prefer to give their works, and not sell ...
            9. I wish you good luck to Yura. I have nothing against fasting, do it for health))))
            10. In what work of the master did I get stuck, remind me? I expressed my opinion, in which I think I’ll understand. I didn’t scare Yuri, or not?
Well, I don't pay attention to some offensive comments, it's a matter of education.
I didn't expect such an inadequate attitude from you. They made a review of their own free will, and now they decided to accuse me of something ... Ayayay
            Good luck.
Then there is no desire to discuss something.

            • Arkady Shapoval

              1. This short review is in black and white for VR. You misunderstood something. The olx says the same thing. It seemed 100%.
              2. In the review it is written that the price is for the lens (I have just additionally clarified this information so that there are no unnecessary thoughts). I don't know what you read in the comments, but the review itself says something else.
              3. Not real prices - bad
              4. My main wish for the plate was - this is the correct spelling of the name of the lens, I thought it was no longer polite to ask you to remove your mail.
              5. D700 is a good old camera, I mean that working as a photographer is precisely the work of a photographer, which you do not work
              6. That's right
              7. This is exactly the problem itself. You sort of undertake to do, but at the same time move out, which is a hobby.
              8. That's right
              9. That's right
              10. Here you wrote "Something is expensive for such work. There is no aperture, no vr. It's easy to do, you put the lens unit from the helios into the lens helicoid. You can use a variety of donors. Budget option)".
There were no offensive comments on my part; if there were, please indicate. I don’t understand what does the review on your lens have to do with it? It is just about your statement: "Something is expensive for such work. There is no aperture, no vr. To do it is simple, put the lens unit from the helios into the lens helicoid. You can use a variety of donors. Budget option)".

            • Nikich

Alex, well, you really decide, on the one hand, it's easy to do, but on the other hand, 5 days for 8 hours. $ 15 per hour = 600 euros (this is more than $ 700!) And this is only work + donors, so 900 apparently came over. Who in their right mind would buy a Gelik for $ 700? I looked at your videos on YouTube (I found the link somewhere here), it's very funny and interesting, but here you got in in vain with your comments, 150 dollars immediately for working with donors is much more attractive for a Russian person

        • Alexey

I knew Chernomyrdin personally, so let's stop the insults.

      • Alex

In the CIS, lenses have long been made by Sergei Suslov, and at fully adequate prices. Both with and without aperture, and not only Helios. And not only for Nikons, but also for Canon. And to put it mildly, it makes no sense for me to do this. neither time nor desire.

        • Arkady Shapoval

Well, I’m telling you that you don’t take it yourself, but you run into others. Announce the prices from Suslov, please.

          • Alex

I don’t run around, I’m just glad that someone will do it and they will leave me alone))) I somehow offered it to those who wanted it, even there was a video. Instead of payment, just barter, since I understand that not everyone gets European salaries. work, say helios with AF and a diaphragm, instead of paying, just send another same helios and a fifty-kopeck piece of nikon. But many comrades thought it was too high, and the desecration of Nikon's poltos))) Now there is no desire or time to do this. Sergei Suslov is in my group at Facebook, also in VKontakte, a video with his work has also been on YouTube for a very long time. You can ask him about the prices yourself, I'm not a secretary))) Many people already know him, he made such helios in the sea. it's just not interesting to make a lens without aperture, for this reason the autofocus cyclops has not yet come out.

            • Arkady Shapoval

You drive: "Make lenses with aperture for this price and everyone will be happy, there is demand." It turns out here in the comments they write that Suslov is your student, therefore it is beneficial for you to promote his services and apparently discredit others.

    • Novel

There is time, there is a desire, there is a choice, the cakes are already flying, the master is doing everything right.

      • Roman

You can go anywhere, but a dear mmmm person, angrily condemning any initiative, can not go anywhere.

  • Pawel

There are Helios and 18-55, it's a pity the hands from the priests, ideally they would have thrown off the video tutorial, I understand everything in mechanics, I even roughly imagine how to parallel the lenses, but how to adjust everything, the distance between the lenses is certainly beyond my understanding

    • Alexey

The lens unit is not disassembled, and is installed as is, with all the distances between the lenses. well, or the drawings of the required lens are taken and another lens unit body is machined from them, observing all distances and sizes.

  • Kukurund

But I'm sorry for Alex - the man made a smart fit, immediately and repeatedly said that it was for Fan, a hobby and he was not going to earn it, but if you really need it, then 1000 euros, and what to do if he lives in a developed country capitalism, and not in the impoverished CIS - these are not its problems. Everyone snapped up as if they were really inadequate. It's a shame to read such shit, especially on Radozhiv.

    • Neo

A man sits in Italy and begins to tell us how to live and what he will do better for 1000 euros, while he may not do it, because this is a hobby. Here are some of them and explain how to live.

      • Mazay

He already did. And he didn't just put the lens unit into the whale lens housing. Calculation, manufacturing of parts by zd printing, turning, adjustment. And the plaque on the floor of the building - this is already called dob in Russian ... I have nothing to do. The man voiced the price for which he is ready to do, I do not like it, come on, goodbye, and there are enough such non-diaphragm designs to pile up craftsmen. This once again confirms that neither in Russia nor in "V" Ukraine is it really customary to respect craftsmanship, such a people, apparently, that some, that others. They only know how to crap everything and shout that everything should be dreamed up for free. P… .ts, in short.

        • Roman

We are very happy for him. That's just crazy. "I do well, but it's expensive, but it's a hobby, so I don't do it at all, but yours is also expensive, but it's bad, do it cheaper." For this and snapped. A buyer is someone who has money and is willing to buy a product. A seller is someone who has a product and is willing to sell it. Everything else is blah blah. The potential “I could, but I won't” is of no interest to anyone.

          • Alexey

I perfectly understand the author. I myself can do a lot from the field of industrial electronics and a little photo, video and film technology, but it costs serious money. if someone can pay - I will do it with pleasure. and I do this to my friends just like a hobby.

            • Roman

But you, probably, if you look at the topic where someone is doing something, then on the rights of a person involved you will talk about technical implementation, and not about pricing. About the complexity of manufacturing - please. About working-non-working diaphragm - as much as necessary. About 3D printing, about the quality of the image, that's just about the price, please, drink in a rag. Is it so hard to understand?

              • Alexey

did not quite understand the meaning of this passage. I supported the author that he can set an arbitrarily high price for what he does USUALLY as a hobby, if someone suddenly wants to get the same development from him for himself. in my case, for example, the cost of any development starts at $ 1000, for a lesser amount I will not waste my time.

      • Arkady Shapoval

Alex taught here, here is his comment "Make lenses with aperture for this price and everyone will be happy, there is a demand."
        And therefore such a reaction.

      • Roman

And it was Alex who came to this thread with a detailed position on the gap why it is cheap and expensive to make lenses at the same time, why he does not make them, and for what amount everyone else should make them (but it is better not to do it, because this is a hobby Alex wants keep it for yourself, but still do not, because it is long and cheap).

    • Denis

so who nevertheless made this lens, Yuri, who gave it to Arkady for review, or Alex made and presented it to Yuri, from whom he got to the review

      • Arkady Shapoval

Yura has nothing to do with Alexander, just like Alexander has nothing to do with Yuri.
Yura sent a lens based on 18-55 for the review that you can see now, he makes them at a low cost.
Alexander gave me This one, he can do them only at great cost.

  • Oleg

The question of price is a question of the market: you are satisfied with the price - you buy, no - you are looking for other offers. It makes no sense to discuss this issue for a long time, unless we are talking about bargaining between the buyer and the seller.

  • Igor

ABOUT! Wonderful product and great pictures.
I need to buy myself one for Nikon. I want the background to swirl. Well, to buy the same for this canon.

    • Trueash

If you are talking about a tip to infinity, then Helios are sawn to Nikon without much crap. They did it for me for a small fee. Another thing is that autofocus will not be ... but it will not be on Canon either.

  • Arkady Shapoval

Comments regarding policy and related topics have been removed.

  • Alesay

In Belarus, such a lens is also made by a master, with an aperture and mdf of 20 cm. And it's all much cheaper. I myself am the happy owner of this miracle. Photos of the lens itself and photos taken by it can be attached to the commentary for anyone interested.

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Send me interesting)

  • Alesay

Photo of the lens itself. As he removes, I'll post it later. In general, I have long wanted Arkadits on your website to write reviews on cat lenses. I have, but since I am ashamed of my ignorance on many lenses, you Arkady did the reviews yourself, but there is still something left for tests))). Now, according to the lens itself, helios 44-3 ms was chosen as a donor. The answer is simple, there are a lot of them in Belarus and it is multi-coated. In the photo where the trunk is extended, this is the macro mode, it shoots in it from 20 cm to 40 or 50. If you need an ordinary MDF, we twist the trunk and the lens focuses like a regular fifty dollars, because the lens is deeply recessed into the body, it copes well with backlight, and also because the ends of the lenses are blackened.

Donars to write probably not the appropriate price, then someone is as lucky. Well, I will indicate the helios I got for about 10-15 dollars. But if you look specifically, you can find it cheaper. whale nikonovsky about $ 30 e. I found then. Well, the work of the master is 30-35 cu. e. Bonus Lifetime Product Warranty)))).

    • Michael

Alesei, could you send the master's contacts by mail m.svetloff@bk.ru
      Thank you in advance

    • Fast

Alexey, throw off my master's contacts too, please raskcnc@gmail.com
It's very interesting to do this on Canon.

  • Alex

Is this all just for the sake of twisted bokeh and autofocus?

  • Anna

Can this lens be screwed on fujifilm X series?

    • Trueash

Well, you can install it - through an adapter, but there is no point in this, because the lens will become manual. It is easier and much cheaper to supply a regular "Helios".

      • Anna

Autofocus does the usual Helios support?
