  • Alexander

And what is the difference with the z6 besides the memory card slots? Explain?

    • @ Lex

I only see the burst speed and sync speed. Otherwise, almost the same

    • Arkady Shapoval

12 fps, 10-Bit 4k for an external device, a better display, a card (though one) but faster, the price tag is much higher.
Well, of course, in 2 years some of the functions from older cameras have crawled into the younger ones.

      • Anton

I hope the z6 will drop in price, I'll take another second) if not for the continuous shooting of 4,5 frames, although in z6 5,5 with a flash it did not go far

    • Michael

They also write that the matrix is not BSI.

      • koba

That's right, the usual matrix is in it ...

      • Andrey + Ch.

Yes, there is an ordinary matrix. Looks like they took from d750.

        • Arkady Shapoval

Pixels with d750 do not converge, most likely just a new 24 megapixel, but without bsi

      • copenhagen72

Matrix is not BSI ?! Nikon decided to shoot himself in the knee? Fullframe with impotence in terms of shooting in the dark ... but who needs it in 2020?

        • copenhagen72

If it's not clear what I'm talking about, here's a lowlight video comparison, Sony A7M3 vs Nikon D750
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H39OPGUANWo

          • Visitor

You would also compare with Mark 2, hospadi.

    • Ivan

      No top display.

  • Yuriy75

As for the entry level, it's cool, you could have a polycarbonate case and without a stub on the matrix, with one memory card, but for $ 600

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Sony A7 will be released

  • Dezmond2

    DHMI Type C

  • Oleg

Their whales are credited with some 24-105 / 7,1, with the second 24-50 / 6,3 over the long end. Already put super-fast 18-55 / 3.5-5.6 it will be cheaper

    • Pokemon

Yes, marketers and ambassadors rubbed hard on new mounts. Type will be new "better" (with) high-aperture lenses. Just forgot to add how much lighter / darker they will be.

      • Roman

Nikon's new mount is generally sad. Apart from the manual 58 / 0.95 and the ultra-compact 24-50, there is nothing fundamentally interesting. Well, yes, it's stupid to cut the support of all the old non-motorized glasses ... Someone is digging something for themselves at an accelerated pace.

        • Ivan

          Nikon follows Olympus.

        • Visitor

Classic glasses, standard format, excellent travel zoom, good fixes, what else do you want?))

    • Pokemon

Nikon has a rich fleet of old screwdriver lenses.
Sony once offered an interesting adapter for lovers of old glasses - Sony LA-EA4. Why did Nikon spit on the owners of screwdriver lenses and didn't offer them anything?

      • Alexey

“Stop raping the corpse of the old button accordion”, for the same reason the Kwanon changed the bayonet mount from FD to EF. "The giraffe is big, he knows better"

      • Vitaly

This is why I switched to a Canon mirrorless camera in the D7100.
For my screwdrivers will not use new mirrorless cameras.

        • Vlad

Well, they won't go to kenon either.

    • Vlad

Yes (it would be better to have made a 40 / 2.8 class pancake like a canon than this misunderstanding

      • Oleg

It will also be sold separately for $ 400, I'm not surprised why their phones are eating up their market. It would be better if you put the adapter for mirror lenses for free

        • Pokemon

Phones are eating away at the market for initial DSLRs and soap dishes (which, in my opinion, are already completely gone), with which people often went on vacation also thanks to articles like this:
          https://hi-tech.mail.ru/review/camera_vs_phone/?frommail=1
An ordinary person will look, think - danunafig, go and buy 108MP Samsung or Xiaomi and ... will most likely be satisfied.

      • Jury

        40 / 2.0 - already available and inexpensive!

  • Ivan

What's the point of cutting the flash sync speed down to 1 / 200s?
What's this? Culling shutters from more expensive sockets? Or a fundamentally new shutter?
Just don't say that this is the entry level. For example, the Nikon D50's flash sync speed was 1 / 500s, and 50ka was certainly the entry level.

    • Arkady Shapoval

      1. The D50 always has an electronic first curtain
      2. The Z5 supports FP mode, you can use any shutter speed, at least 1/8000, you just need a flash that supports this mode
      3. With a mechanical shutter, shutter speeds cannot be set below 1/320 for two curtains or 1/500 for one curtain. The minimum shutter speed is always indicated without the FP mode, That is, the shutter speed with which any flash will work

      • Alexey

Maybe you need an X-Sync summary plate, you can place it somewhere in a more suitable place.

        • Arkady Shapoval

She is wrong, a lot of wrong data

          • Alexey

I took it from an article by a Frenchman, he writes quite literate things. but I did not check these data specifically.

      • KalekseyG

And what about 1/4000 at d40, d50, d70. And without FP.

        • Arkady Shapoval

You are very much confusing something. They don't have the ability to shoot at these shutter speeds with their native flash units. Elementary with an external flash beyond 1/500 the camera will not allow setting a faster shutter speed.

          • Alexey

can I be sneering? )) the camera (which is kenon or nikon) will easily allow you to set any shutter speed, unless it, the camera, sees an external flash.

            • Arkady Shapoval

Yes, of course, I already wrote that some Chinese flashes can work with any camera in FP mode, the main thing, as you already noted, is that the camera does not know that the flash is working, and the flash has the ability to force it to work in high-speed mode.

              • Alexey

By the way, when they ask me what the sync speed is on which camera, I offer the owner a simple test - in M mode, set 1 \ 1000 and then turn on / install the flash. if the camera sees a flash, it will change the shutter speed itself, just to the limit for the usual, not HSS mode. the same goes for the built-in flash.

      • Sergei

Is there more delay when shooting with a fully mechanical shutter than with a shutter with a first electronic curtain?

        • Arkady Shapoval

Optional, depends on the implementation method

  • Andrew Ch.

So Nikon got his own 'first-timer'. )

  • Oleg

Nowhere do they specify the following question: will the Z mirrorless hot shoe support all DSLR peripherals? For example, if I have some kind of conditional Godox AD200 with a Godox XPro-N synchronizer, will all the functionality of these gadgets be available? Including TTL and HSS?

    • Arkady Shapoval

The original peripherals are supported, and what will happen to third-party manufacturers needs to be tested. But most likely everything will work as expected.

    • Svitlophoto

      I have a z5 and a godox periphery: xt2, tt600 and v860. Everything works. I'm filming a reportage.

  • Alexander

I will take the Z5, but only when the price is reduced to adequate.

  • varezhkin

I hope the viewfinder will not be cut ...

  • @paderinfoto

But I was waiting for this device. In my opinion (of a wedding photographer), all unnecessary and increasing the price were cut off, leaving the important - sensible autofocus, stub on the matrix, inexpensive cards. Video? Yes, I don't need more than 1080p. BSI want? Come on! I still shoot with two D700 cameras and do not break off in terms of ISO, ancient possibilities are great, there would be hands and eyes in place. I don’t know how bad a low-resolution display will be, I don’t think it will ruin the work. I ordered myself through the pre-order program and now on the 27th, if the store does not lie, I will have this camera in my hands, I hope, on August 28 and 29 I will try it out at weddings!

    • Michael

And how is he at weddings? How much better is the noise than the d700? And the colors? At the very 2 d700, but there is a limit of 1600 ISO, and then, if you shoot half-length portraits, for growth ISO 800-1000 without a strong loss of detail.

      • @paderinfoto

Mikhail, the store nevertheless deceived me - more precisely, something slows down. Only tonight I received a message that the goods are ready to receive, tomorrow I will pick up food!))
As for the iso on the D700, in my opinion, things are a little better) In a restaurant report, for example, when the hearth is ignited or for the dynamics of the flight of a bouquet - iso 2000-2500 is quite suitable, if you do not fly with the exposure and pull into LR carefully. 3200 is already the edge. Portraits in difficult conditions for optics such as 85 / 1.8G and 135 / 2.0 DC - up to iso 1250, no more risking. Yes, usually it is not required, for more difficult situations I carry a constant light with me)
The most terribly curious about iso, I'll unsubscribe here, I'll try to hang examples. And it is very interesting how the auto-BB works there, what is the "stringiness" of the source code. Often I want to shoot some banquet things without flashes, so that the BB was adequate, not like in the 700, where it works rather “clumsy” in difficult lighting. I heard a lot of good things about the BB in the D810, but I never wanted 36MP for my tasks, and I still don't want to.
I'm waiting in general! I promise to share my feelings!)

  • @paderinfoto

As I promised, I am sharing my impressions. I do not pretend to be a review, I am too lazy to write. I liked the camera. I expected a little worse, I was pleasantly surprised!
    1. Autofocus in simple, medium, difficult and dark conditions is much more effective than in D700, D800-810, D750, 5Dmk3. I have nothing more to compare with, it makes no sense to compare with crops. In the pitch darkness, SLRs seem to be better, more precisely, their illumination is better. In real life, the Z5's hit rate is noticeably higher than in DSLRs. How much - more prolonged practice will show.
    2. ISO - I have not tested it at weddings yet. Feels like the real numbers are three times better than those of the D700.
    3. White balance gives more real hues than all of the above.
    4. Picture and colors. Here I was surprised - nice even colors, no hooliganism, everything is somehow noble and beautiful, incl. in portraits. I do not exhibit them - these are very home shots.
    5. Convenience - I haven't enjoyed shooting for a long time, the reason for that is EVI, a small screen and a new autofocus. Buttons - I clumsily press the exposure (I want to reassign), I scour for a long time in search of ISO. Everything else is in place.
    6. Feelings in the hands - the camera looks like a strong and protected one. BUT ... You can scratch with a frown, very thinly painted. I do not plan to take rubber skins, since childhood I have been against remotes in plastic bags.
    7. No screwdriver is pain! Economically, everything is clear, Nikon wants to sell new lenses. But damn, our friends from China, make a screwdriver adapter, be people! Really, well, let's all fold?)
    8. The battery does not eat up so quickly in the photo. Of course, DSLRs are far from being non-volatile.
    9. Z5 heats up a little even when taking photos, more than DSLRs, probably it should be.
The camera is really good, the picture is great. By the way, Adobe has not yet released support for the Z5 raves. So far, I’m getting out of the situation like this: I upload the raves into Capture NX-D, from there I export to TIFF 16 bits, and then I twist it in my favorite editor.
So, on the very first day, I quickly ran through the garden, twisted the pictures in LR a little, and I'll try to stick a link. I processed it to my taste, but you can not criticize the processing. Portraits, if anyone wants, will be later. https://photos.app.goo.gl/PuuVFrMoiuKxAtFv7

    • Michael

Thank you, we will wait for portraits)

    • Pokemon

"Feels like the real numbers are three times better than the D700."
If we look at it in full RAW resolution and with no noise reduction in the camera?
The D700 started having noise problems after ISO 2000. At 2500 they are already noticeable.

      • @paderinfoto

So far I haven’t poked around in the noises in detail. To test autofocus in the twilight, I took shots at ISO 8000. In terms of noise, the result looks something like that of the D700 ISO 1600, even prettier. In terms of detail, the Z5 is doing well at 8000.

    • @paderinfoto

In the examples, I completely left Exif, you can download and watch the numbers. Optics: Tokina 100 / 2.8 macro, Nikon 35 / 1.8G, Tokina 16-28 / 2.8. On a hundred square meters, manual focus with picking is convenient for a large macro, on an average macro autofocus would be more pleasant.

Nikon Z5 - Preview - Better or Worse than Nikon Z6 and Nikon Z7?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo-7J3HmdwQ

  • Paul

Hello gentlemen / comrades professionals. Some thoughts out loud. Recently, I often come across articles about the crisis of the photo market, about the gradual and inevitable displacement of cameras by smartphones. I am one of those amateur photographers - I shoot with my smartphone. However, contrary to the opinion expressed in the above-mentioned articles, my dream is not about buying a new fancy camera phone, but about a full-fledged camera with interchangeable optics. Now the Nikon Z5 seems to me to be the perfect option for my amateur taste. However, I am extremely confused by the price. And not only this camera, this manufacturer. What is often called "amateur entry-level" has a horse (as for me) prices. I just can't bring myself to stop being surprised by this. I am at a loss as to how much an “amateur” should earn in order to part with $ 1500 for a hobby without hesitation and regret, for something that he will not earn a dime with in the future? "Amateur" European? .. In any case, the technical capabilities of my smartphone are exhausted, and I want to change the toy to a full-fledged mirrorless camera. QUESTION: as an amateur, will I lose a lot if I buy Nikon Z5 instead of Nikon Z50? Will I chew my elbows after such a decision? Does it make sense to wait for the Nikon Z30 and Z70? I understand that FF is technically more promising and preferable. But it seems to me that for Nikon Z5 I will never buy a quality telephoto lens, for example. The prices for FF optics also cannot be called “amateur”. Share your opinions, if not difficult. Thank you.

“I am at a loss in guessing how much an“ amateur ”should earn in order to part with $ 1500 for a hobby without hesitation and regret, for something that he will not earn a dime with in the future? .. Or, probably, the“ amateur ”of the post-Soviet space is a the eyes of a European "lover"? .. "
Pay attention to the owners of the iPhone 11Pro / 12Pro. People are ready to buy the same thing every year or two for quite decent money.
Someone recently complained on Radozhiv that Fuji X-T4 is expensive, well, compare it with an iPhone or, alternatively, with the prices of RTX 3080 / RTX 3090. The point is the rise in prices for electronics and the constantly “nullified” third world currency.
“QUESTION: as an amateur, will I lose a lot if I buy Nikon Z5 instead of Nikon Z50? "
You have not written what exactly you will shoot and why you need a full frame.
“The prices for FF optics also cannot be called“ amateur ”. "
Amateur prices for FF only on the secondary market. This is especially true for Nikon F mount lenses, especially D series lenses.
If you need a budgetary FF - we go and buy a new or used D610, D750 and used Nikkor 28-105 / 3.5-4.5 D for a penny, then everything else to taste and needs.
According to reviews, the matrix in the Z5 is similar in RAW to the d750. It seems like the Z5 comes without backlighting.
As an option, there are inexpensive Canon Rp and through the native adapter you can use the native EF glass of the 24-105 / 4L type, again from the secondary or redistribution.

      • Paul

Thank you for keeping the conversation going)) Above, I said that now I only look at mirrorless cameras. They are more suitable for what I like. For example, “supermacro” (focus bracketing) and time-lapses, which quickly destroy the mechanics of a DSLR. The second important point is lightness and compactness. I reviewed a lot of cameras before settling on Nikon. And still I don't see any ideal (for myself) cameras. For example, in the Z50 I do not like the lack of focus bracketing and matrix stabilization, and in the Z5 - the lack of a built-in flash, reduced video capabilities and high prices (for the camera and optics for it). So I asked: shouldn't I wait for the Z30 and Z70? .. I think I would be happy to buy the Z50 in a complete kit, with two “terribly dark” lenses for all occasions, for many years to come (it would still be space compared to my budget smartphone). And that would be much cheaper than the Z5 with one humble whale. But doubts gnaw that later I will regret that I did not save up funds and did not take the same FF. As an alternative to the Z50, I considered the more advanced Fujifilm X-S10 crop, but the price is such that it is better to take the Z5 for almost the same money. In general, I am stumped. Now on Radozhiv I'm looking for inspiration and enlightenment: to understand if I need FF.

        • Pokemon

“Above, I said that now I only look at mirrorless cameras. "
          And Canon Rp - bzk.
“Now on Radozhiv I'm looking for inspiration and enlightenment: to understand if I need FF.”
I won't tell you about time-lapse, unfortunately I never shot it. On Radozhiv there is a little information on the issue of interest to you.
Time-lapse (and, in general, 4K video) for youtube is often filmed on Sony a6500 / a6600, a7s III, Panasonic GH5 / GH5s, Fuji X-T3 / 4, Panasonic s1 / s5. Video is rarely written on Nikon cameras, it has historically happened, although the z6 / z7 seem to be quite good.

Please note that the crop is currently being developed little. Canon closes the EOS M line, popular in Asia, within a year everything will be removed from the production. Canon and Nikon have no decent lenses for the new lens mounts. The only ones who have are Fuji.
It seems to me that if FF and bzk are needed, it is better to look at Canon now. According to the video, there were dissatisfied that the EOS R / Rp video is being written
crop. If the camera is taken under the video, then it is better to immediately look at Sony or Fuji. There are a lot of adapters for their mounts.

Dark whales with both z5 and z50 do not deserve attention. You will not get any super difference with a smartphone. If you want something to "wow", and inexpensively - you need to take a light fix like 35 / 1.8 or 50 / 1.8. This is where the difference will be noticeable. The main difference between crop and ff is not noise, not depth of field, but sharpness. A lens that is sharp on FF will be soapy on a crop. And glasses, sharp on the crop, are few, and they are expensive and heavy.
The Z50 will be inferior to the z5 in noise, stability and sharpness, but surpass in speed, compactness and price. Both cameras are great for the money, but for amateur use I would take the z50

          • Gregor

            @Vlad
_ "Dark whales with z5 and z50 do not deserve attention." _

Did you use the kit with the z5 / 50 or do you generally dislike zooms?

            • Vlad

Probably, I did not quite correctly put it. The z5 and z50 whales can produce sharp, detailed images. They have fast and quiet AF, good stabilization, cheap wide angle. But a low aperture will allow you to shoot only in good lighting, otherwise you will raise the shutter speed / ISO to indecent values. We do not take the flash into account - if it is, then there is also a decent glass. Picture. Yes, it is sharp, but, subjectively, it looks flat. Like a smartphone. There is no volume, the image is kind of "dirty". Plastic bayonet mount. I did not shoot with these lenses, but I saw pictures, + I have a similar one 18-55 afp. Fast, sharp, but uninteresting. 16-50 is interesting for its compactness and focus. 24-50 is not interesting for anything. Instead of using a camera with these people, whales, it is better to buy a compact inch or aps-c - at least there will be good light optics immediately

              • Victor

“16-50 is interesting for its compactness and focus. 24-50 is not interesting for anything "

I beg your pardon, but it's very strange that by noting the “compactness” property of 16-50, you cheated 24-50. After all, this is one of the most compact standard zooms on full-frame cameras, it is even more compact than the aforementioned SLR 18-55 (!)

              • Vlad

The 24-50 is compact relative to full-frame lenses, but the body itself is a rather large and weighty brick. Small size / weight is out of the question here. If you want compactness - take a crop

            • Vlad

But in general, the z50 doublekit is much more interesting and versatile than the z5 kit

          • Specialist

Vlad: "A lens that is sharp on FF will be soapy on the crop." - I never noticed. That 50-ki 1,8, that FF-zooms (eg 70-300VR) are the same in sharpness and at crop.

            • Victor

“I never noticed. That the 50s are 1,8, that the FF zooms (eg 70-300VR) are the same in sharpness and on the crop ”

You are such a specialist, it turns out :-)

          • Trueash

            >> The lens, sharp on FF, will be soapy on the crop - Why all of a sudden? If all other conditions are equal (pixel density, for example), then the cropped image will be even sharper, because less sharp edges are cut off.

            • Victor

But the pixel density, as a rule, does not match - these are races, and the pictures are most often looked at in one size (for example, on the same 24 ″ monitor) - these are two.

          • Paul

“The dark whales with both the z5 and the z50 do not deserve attention. You won't get any super difference with a smartphone. ”
Statements like these have stopped me (for now) from buying a camera. It's hard to believe, but I haven't compared it in detail (pixel by pixel), so I tend to trust the opinion of experienced photographers.
“If you want something to“ wow ”(talking about the technical difference with a smartphone), and inexpensively - you need to take a light fix like 35 / 1.8 or 50 / 1.8. This is where the difference will be felt. "
Let's say I have little or no interest in portrait photography. Suppose I am shooting a landscape, and artistic blurring of the background is not unnecessary, but contraindicated. Did I understand correctly that the landscape image obtained, for example, at 35mm / f5.6 dark whale zoom will remain at the technical level of a smartphone; Will the same landscape shot with the same 35mm / f5.6 but with a light fix, be technically much better?
I ask seriously, without mockery. The physical principle of this "magic" is incomprehensible to me. And I'm still thinking, which is very, very protracted ...))
Yesterday I saw a noticeable drop in the price of z50 in large markets. Long term question: has anyone tested this camera with 35mm, 50mm FF light fixes? I could not find information, confused by talk about “mismatched pixel density”.
Another question. Can you please tell me how true are the statements about the depth of the dynamic range with an abundance of soft FF halftones that cannot be repeated by the crop camera? Where can you physically “touch” (visually see) it using comparative examples? Thank.

            • Paul

              "Wrong."
Then the statements (met many times) that the picture from the dark whale zoom does not fundamentally differ from the picture of the smartphone, either erroneously or falsely. All clear. It seems to be talking about tastes ...

              • Trueash

The “wow factor” is largely determined by micro-contrast, that is, simply put, the ability to reproduce the gradation of shadows - where a conventional cheap lens will draw sharp black and white lines.

            • Paul

I found answers to both of my questions on dpreview.com. The FF lens works great on crop. The images from the Z5 and Z50 are almost impossible to distinguish with the naked eye, which, frankly, surprised me a lot. But I still like the Z5 better now - because of the additional features that give more comfort and creative freedom. Whether these "snacks" are worth a double or triple overpayment, I have not yet decided for myself ...))

              • twm

It is not so important whether it is a crop or a full frame - in the matter of quality, the optics first decides. Portrait, landscape, street - any genre: the quality of the art picture is determined by the very micro-contrast that Trueash mentioned (in other words, the richness of tonal transitions), plus the resolution of the optics.

Yes, “fast” glass can help in low light conditions. And it also allows you to more effectively “cut off” the subject from the background by controlling the depth of field. And as a rule, “fast” glass is of higher quality. But this does not mean that dark decisions are inherently bad.
Yes, fast autofocus often helps on the street. And all the more important in sports.

Yes, a full frame can provide a greater dynamic range - compared to a crop of the same generation: a condition for this is a lower pixel density per unit area. This is useful in two cases: 1) good optics will reveal this DD - see tonality / micro-contrast again; 2) you can raise the ISO - and the drop in DD will not be as catastrophic as on a “multipixel” matrix (see Sony A7S vs regular A7).
Yes, a full frame gives a wider angle of view relative to the crop.
Yes, “multipixel” sensors are often better at revealing the landscape. And not really needed in a portrait.

Check out the advantages of lenses.
Analyze the pros / cons Crop vs FF.
                Decide what's important to you.
                Profit (?).

PS whales of Nikon's Z-series are scolded on YouTube and forums. I myself did not take these glasses off. The best whales I've encountered were at Fuji and (suddenly) Pentax

              • twm

                > fast autofocus
                tenacious, confident *
                Self-fix.

                > “Fast” glass
Here I'm definitely talking about aperture.

            • Michael

For a landscape, the difference between crop-ff will be only in detail. All “wah effects” refer to the shallow depth of field of the light fix. Plus, the fix often has better resolution than the zoom, and the fixed fixed to 5.6 will give a sharper picture.

              • twm

                @Michael
                > will only be in detail
20-24 megapixel modern crops provide a very detailed picture of older “low-pixel” FF cameras, for example. If the glass, of course, is able to "resolve" both matrices. Rather, I would draw Pavel's attention to the fact that finding a cheap "wide angle" for a crop - for a landscape - is still a challenge. Moreover - autofocus (although for a landscape autofocus is not a must-have).

Plus, besides the resolution, fixes still - with respect to whale zooms - give an expressive / noticeable gain in those very tonal transitions.

              • Michael

The number of MPs does not really affect the size of the matrix and the detail at infinity. And the choice is not between the old ff and the new crop, but between З5 and З50.
There is no cheap wide angle neither on the ff nor on the crop, but there are good widths here and there.
Tonal transitions are more about the portrait, the landscape does not need much

              • twm

                @Michael
                > And the choice is not between an older ff and a new crop, but between З5 and З50.

I got a little carried away. The essence of my words is that Pavel should perhaps take a closer look at the lenses first. So, all carcasses of any system from the 12th year provide more than a high-quality final result, a picture.

Another thing is that autofocus in the UPC (e-mount and x-mount rulers) became somewhat nimble and tenacious only for the third iterations of the flagships: a7 III and X-T3 are examples of this. But not every photographer needs it.

              • Paul

                @twm
Nikon's Z-series whales are not only scolded, but also praised on YouTube (they say, all previous whales are Whales). “The lens, not the camera, makes the final picture” (to a greater extent), but the Digital Photography Review of the Z50 says, for example, that this camera is bad for landscapes. Such (similar) conflicting conclusions are very confusing, to be honest.
Thanks for the tip - look at lenses first. I have no optics park. I think this is a great opportunity to avoid unnecessary "body movements" (material and time costs). At first I thought about this step-by-step login: crop camera kit -> light lens (s) for FF -> FF camera. Now I think that it is better to skip the first stage, but you have to be patient - because of the high price. And new rumors about the possible closure of Nikon do not give confidence in the right choice of system ...

              • twm

                @Pavel
                > “Digital Photography Review”

I read their review, and it is funny in this part: neither in the text of the article, nor in the detailed summaries, they do not directly say “z50 is such a choice for a landscape”. And this conclusion of theirs jumps out at the reader only in a short pros / cons.

For example, I can only guess what they mean in that line: probably a fleet of available native glasses - especially wide-angle ones. Probably the availability of glasses sharpened specifically for the DX sensor. But these are just my guesses: I did not see the justification in the article.

Nothing interesting, another “boss, everything is gone” article.
With a certain degree of leverage / engagement, one can always be adjusted to match the other, although in this case it is more of an engagement. Those who are in the subject perfectly understand where the difference will be small, and where the smartphone will merge by 200%, physics cannot be fooled.

            • Vlad

The answer is not entirely relevant, but it compared 18-55 af-p with sigma 30 / 1.4 on d5600. At f4.5 in the center of the frame, there is no difference in sharpness. Well, absolutely. At the same time, the sharpness is maximum, moiré is noticeable on small details. At the edges and corners, the fix is sharper, there are no spherical aberrations. The half-tones are more plastic, the color rendition is more pleasant, but this is already subjective. In general, the difference is not too significant

    • juris

      take Nikon Z50

  • varezhkin

I'd like to see a review of the Z5 here.

  • Vlad

The other day I became the happy owner of z5. I took it complete with an adapter. Satisfied as an elephant) but there are a few confusing points: firstly, there was no instruction in the kit. More precisely, it was, but short, like how to insert a battery, turn it on, shoot. There is no complete manual. And even on the Internet it did not work out, there is only an English version of 850 pages.
Second. I have a sigma 30 / 1.4 Art, for a crop. I thought to use it as a broad one - they write that FF normally covers f2.8. But with sigma, the camera automatically enters dx mode, and the crop mode selection item becomes inactive. I have not figured out how to enable fx mode yet, but there are no instructions (
If anyone has come across, tell me how to solve

    • Paul

Googled the topic of compatibility, accidentally found: the Signa 30mm F1.4 DC HSM Art lens is on the list of compatible with Nikon Z cameras and FTZ adapter. Therefore, you probably have the automatic DX crop mode turned on in the image area settings.

      • Vlad

The fact of the matter is that it is impossible to select a crop mode. And there is no auto-framing on / off item. As far as I understood, this is a software limitation, and the only solution is to buy a third-party adapter and use sigma as a completely manual glass

    • Gregor_S

tell me the focus is live?

      • Vlad

I use it with 50 / 1.8g, sigma 30 / 1.4, 70-300 af-p, tried 24-70 / 4 Z. AF is great with z-lenses, but not so good with af-s. AF logic provides for a series of fine adjustments when focusing, and the ultrasonic motor copes with this much worse than the stepping motor, it starts to crack. Subjectively, af-s lenses seem to focus faster than DSLRs, but less confidently. The focus is constantly rebuilding, does not have time to track the subject when changing the focusing distance. I noticed another oddity (from 50 / 1.8): in af-c mode, when focusing by 1 or 9 points, if you shoot in series and transfer to the camera from one object to another, the camera takes 3-4 pictures, and only then refocuses again. As a result, if you shoot dynamics - most of the frames with a strong focus miss. At the same time, if you press the aperture down to 2.8, AF becomes much more confident. Probably, the image becomes sharper and the contrast method works better.
In general, autofocus is quite usable, if you do not shoot sports. I think they will finish with the firmware, it will get even better.

        • Nastya

please tell me, does autofocus work with sigma 24-70? are there any nuances?

Sigma 24-70 is a whole bunch, you need to clarify which one

    Hello.

There is an opportunity to buy a Z5 with an adapter of old lenses for a reasonable price - 90 tyr.

Now I have only 85/1: 1.8G full-frame glass, the rest are DXs, which the D5300 will continue to steer.

As always, the question is: is it worth entering the UPC segment? We'll have to invest heavily in optics. And even if you keep in mind the possibility of using the FX mount, then due to the lack of a screwdriver, the path leads to expensive SWM options. Well, in fact, it's a palliative, you have to take / wait for the native format without crutches.

I understand that the Z5 is smaller than DSLRs. But compactness will not be his strong point for me, because I have already assembled a travel version from the O (c) face OM-D E-M10 mark III + Panasonic 14-140.

Shakespeare's dilemma - to take, or not to take :-)

  • Paul

More precisely, the question is even worth it: "Should I take the D7500, or the Z5?" Top crop (on par with D500) or FF advanced amateur UPC.

    DX has 18-200 VR (I), 16-85 VR.

    On FX - 85/1: 1.8G.

The D7500 will add a screwdriver, with all the old optics in perspective.

    Now I own D5300.

    • Vlad

DSLRs are outdating their own, the UPC has too many advantages: matrix stub, AF in the eyes, normal AF through the screen, electronic shutter / front curtain, and in general, the shutter sound is much quieter. No hassle with aperture control. The ability to install any optics. Compared to the d7500, there are two more cards, an AF joystick, an FF matrix. The d7500 has only a screwdriver and speed of its advantages. At the same time, there are almost no sensible lenses for a DSLR crop and will no longer be. Think about how important a screwdriver is to you. If it is important, it is better to take d610 / d750 - all the same, all the screwdriver glasses are under FF. Buy for the first time 24-85 or 24-120 and you will be happy. If it is not important - feel free to go to the UPC.

In order not to part with your optics - look at the z50. Matrix as in d7500, metal case with dust and moisture protection, prof. management + mirrorless buns. It also shoots 11 frames per second.

      • Victor

        "All screwdriver glasses for FF"

        Not all :-)

        • Arkady Shapoval

yes, FISHY 10.5 for DX type AF + many old from third parties

          • Vlad

I could be wrong, but among the old glasses from third-party manufacturers there is little that is interesting. Plus, almost all of them are already re-released with built-in motors.

  • Dmitriy

Owners of z5, tell me if the matrix stabilizer with M42 optics or another works through an adapter without electronic contacts?

    • Vlad

Yes, everything works fine. You just need to correctly indicate the FR in the "lens data without cpu"

  • juris

    Hi!
Such is the question, and not only for z5 but also for others with a stub ... HOW to clean the stabilized matrix? ... Is it fixed when it is turned off? when cleaning with a mop, the stub mechanism will not be damaged ???

  • Sergei

Hello. I have only one question for the owners of z5: shooting people (skin tone). For my non-professional tasks, I took the canon m50 as an additional camera for every day, which is not a pity. I really liked the canon colors after the nikon d800 and 5100 (5100 will be better of these two in terms of colors). I would like to go to the BZK. But I would not like to change the entire system .. There are a lot of optics, flashes, battery, etc ....

    • Dmitry Kostin

      Sergey,
my advice is to get the EOS R or Rp or R6.
One of my friends changed the D700 to… EOS M6 Mark II.
He had an old 700 and he was given this camera as a gift for his anniversary.
As a result, 700ka is now on the shelf with 28-105, 80-200 (!) And other manuals.
The EOS M6 Mk2 cannot shoot in any way. Canon's color profile does not need comments, especially if you show equals in the proprietary Canon DPP.

    • Victor

Nikon is somewhat incapable of a trick in the profile, a user with straight arms should rely on him, profiles from the same guys (by the way, they are on the aforementioned eight hundred), then the human color is no worse than the canon (which also messes up sometimes)

      • Victor

It should be noted that the canon is now completely different from what it was in the days of 1ds / 5d classic, and also requires the use of straight hands to obtain color. What is obtained by default for various users of rp / m6 can be seen in the profile threads of the forums - the results are very diverse, so to speak =)

  • Vladislav

Bought Nikon Z5 and FTZ adapter hoping to use AF-S Nikkor 24-120 1: 4G lenses and the like. It turned out that only in shooting mode S I can change the shutter speed using the wheel. In other modes A, M, P I cannot change the settings: aperture (in A), shutter speed (in M), etc. Maybe I'm wrong about something in the settings? Thanks for the answer!

    • Denis

Friends, tell me, I bought a z5, it may seem or not, but I see a lot of noise in the shadows even at low ISO, or I'm doing something wrong. Moved from d800. Someone noticed something like this

  • Nastya

Hello. I am choosing a new camera, I can’t decide between d750 b z5. Tell me please, I do not quite understand whether autofocus will work with the z5 if you put the sigma 24-70? just on some sites they write that with the smomo

  • Nastya

On some sites they write that there are no problems with sigma, on others that autofocus does not work
