Nikon D7200 is a very good camera. Its only problem, I would highlight the fact that it has not gone very far from the D7100. I don't see much point in upgrading from D7100 to D7200.
The question is which is better at the moment: D7200 or new D7500also remains open. But overall, I highly recommend looking at the newer model. It’s a pity that D7500 selected some useful functions, such as a diaphragm rheostat, a slot for a second memory card, the ability to use a vertical grip / battery pack, etc.
I consider this line of cameras to be the most successful and very functional. DX Models: D7100, D7200, D7500 and FX: D610, D750, D780 from this line are good balanced solutions.

Thanks for reviewing my favorite camera! Just choosing between it and the D7500. When I compared it live, the choice became more obvious - definitely D7200. Even if there is no rotary touch screen, the camera is very solidly assembled, inspiring confidence and reliability. I shot everything, shot with different lenses - only positive emotions, even at high ISO. It has thought out every button, every menu item, every function. It has amazing ergonomics. The battery is very tenacious, the viewfinder is bright, it is very smart, 2 slots for flash drives (it helped out more than once), the built-in flash also sometimes saves, lenses with a screwdriver work clearly + manual without chips can be adjusted directly through the menu. More than once I needed his fast continuous shooting, I even shot a video and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. In short, the camera is super, I have been using it for three years and am extremely happy with it. I will not change for anything. If anyone is going to take - take it, you will not regret it!
I forgot to mention fast and very accurate autofocus, even in poor lighting conditions. Misses, if they happen, are more my fault.

For example, this camera has a clear advantage over the D7500 in the optional IR receiver on the back for the remote control. And another important point, none of the Nikon cameras is as close in terms of the dynamic range to the D850 camera as this one (14,6 and 14,8]:

When I bought the d7200 for a long time, I did a series of shooting two times for the test. I took almost 100 frames in a row and did not notice the brakes. Now the truth I can’t check, sold already.
In JPEG with a quick card, the brakes do not start. But in the RAW format, they cannot but start theoretically.
An average RAW file ('.NEF') with 14-bit depth and lossless compression weighs about 30MB. 6 fps x 30 MB we get 180 MB of data in one second. And the maximum bandwidth of the UHS-I bus is only 104 MB / s. Because of this, chances are you didn't shoot in RAW.

The D7200 has radically changed, improved color rendition - this is the first thing that catches your eye from the examples of photos. 7100 and 7200 are different color cameras. The picture looks like D810. The D7100 had just terrifying ubiquitous brilliant green and dirty grainy noise in the shadows even at ISO 100. And the matrix drawing itself is very rough and hard.

I now have the Nikon d5200 on hand as a lightweight camera for every day, and the matrix there is the same as the Nikon d7100, only with an anti-moir filter.
There are greens in the shadows at ISO 100, but it manifests itself with a strong underexposure of stops 4, it is corrected by one slider in ACR Calibration-Shadows-Tint by removing the shadows to a purple hue. That is, all these perennial complaints about greens on Nikon can be fixed in 1 second.
This matrix has a more acute problem - banding when underexposed by 4 stops, so it cannot be fixed, this is probably the biggest disadvantage.
But about the grainy noise - a lie, the matrix by modern standards is quite good in this regard.
The problem with Nikon crops is the almost complete lack of crop lenses that would resolve the APS-C sensor. When using FF optics on Crop, we get, for example, a larger number of CAs, which by the way is possible and explains the dirty color in a person above.
Banding is present, I agree, but with such a strong underexposure, usually little remains of the picture. I have been using the D7100 since 2015, the problem of banding has touched only a couple of times, but there still the frames were 'killed' - the flash did not work.
For me, the D7100 has one notable drawback - a small buffer.

A useful difference between the D7200 and the D7100 is the ability to implement a Focus Trap. As far as I remember in the Autofocus settings section, there is some difference from the D7100 and D600 / 610. The D7100 and D600 / 610 always have the priority of descent.

Which one, or which of the Nikon DX cameras of the last 8-10 years did you like, did you like in terms of color reproduction (without connection with the functionality and high quality). I don’t know why, but often looking at the photos from the old Pentaxes, Olympuses, Sonya still mirrored, not to mention some ghouls, I am convinced that the color there is more pleasant, deeper. Although on paper they are many times inferior to modern cameras. Of particular interest are the d7100-7200-7500 and d500. It seems that you said somehow that the d500 color didn’t fit you well.
To really like it - there are none. Everyone is trying to average, to fit the correct curves. And correct does not mean beautiful. A stable color in d4, d5, quite pleasant in d850, is quite suitable in d810, even in this d7200.
Subjectively, in samples from Canon 1DX and Panasonic, we like new (full-frame) ones. In this case, the camera requirements are minimal.
