Nikon D7200

Nikon D7200 increase.

The Nikon D7200 was officially introduced on March 2, 2015, and the camera is currently discontinued. Nikon D7200 is a logical continuation of the model Nikon D7100, which was introduced two years earlier, on February 1, 2013. In turn, the Nikon D7200 was replaced / supplemented by the Nikon model D7500, which was announced on April 12, 2017.

Three models: Nikon D7000, D7100The D7200 are very similar to each other. All of them belong to the advanced amateur class, which has many functions inherent in professional models, but at the same time will be clear to the ordinary amateur photographer.

The lineup includes the following evolutionary branch: Nikon DX: D70 -> D70s -> D80 -> D90 -> D7000 -> D7100 -> D7200 -> D7500. It is convenient to work with these cameras for almost any photographer, regardless of the level of his skills. This range also includes Nikon FX full-frame cameras: D600 -> D610 -> D750 -> D780.

Over time, the functionality of this line expanded, but did not change dramatically. During market presence Nikon D7000, D7100The D7200 was not a direct replacement for a more advanced professional camera Nikon D300sIn this connection, the D7100 / D7200 models partially took the burden of the professional segment of Nikon DX cameras on themselves. With the advent of replacement for Nikon D300s, represented by Nikon D500, the need for the maximum functionality of the D7000-> D7100-> D7200 series has also disappeared, which is why the newer Nikon model D7500 received partially less functionality than the D7200. But because the Nikon D7200 is still a very attractive solution for many photographers and amateur photographers.

About camera lines / classes

Separation on a ruler is not a simple convention, there are very specific parameters behind it. When choosing a Nikon camera, first of all, I recommend deciding on its class, which will greatly simplify and facilitate the choice. Ruler advanced amateur The camera is very balanced and suits a huge number of amateur and professional photographers.

Pro line of Nikon camera classes

About the line of Nikon camera classes. increase.

I also added this plate to section about all Nikon cameras.

Briefly about Nikon D7200:

  1. Nikon D7200 uses a 24 MP CMOS sensor, the maximum image size is 6000 X 4000 pixels. The ISO range is from 100 to 25.600, you can set two additional ISO HI 1 values, equivalent to 51.200 and ISO HI 2, equivalent to 102.400. Most likely this sensor is used in some other cameras. Approximate data for sensors that use Nikon cameras can be see here. The Nikon D7200 sensor has an excellent dynamic range, the noise level at high ISO is at the level typical for modern APS-C sensors.
  2. Responsible for image processing EXPEED 4 processorwho also works on board cameras Nikon D810810a D750, D5600, D5500, D5300, D3300, D3400, D3500 and even D4s.
  3. Focus module Advanced Multi-CAM 3500DX II, exactly the same as Nikon D7500. With a sensitivity of -3 EV, the camera uses 51 focus points, 15 of which are cruciform. This is an upgraded module, the old version of which was used in the camera D7100. Based on the primary Multi-CAM 3500 sensor, cameras have been manufactured since 2009. For the first time the simplest Multi-CAM 3500 was introduced on cameras Nikon D3 и Nikon D300. The modernization of the module concerns its minimum sensitivity and the number of points that can work with dark lenses at maximum apertures F / 5.6-F / 8.0. All cameras built on any of the modifications of the Multi-CAM 3500 have a very tenacious focus with a wide range of functions and settings.
  4. Maximum burst speed is 6 frames per second in DX mode and 7 frames per second in framing mode 1.3X. The maximum burst speed during operation via Live View is 3.7 frames per second.
  5. The camera supports high speed bus UHS-I for SDHC / SDXC memory cards. D7200 has two slots for memory cards and several settings for their use.
  6. Minimum excerpt synchronization is 1/320 seconds, the minimum excerpt 1/8000 seconds. The camera supports high-speed sync with external flashes.
  7. Metering module exposure on 2.016pixels. Exactly the same as the models D7000, D7100, D5200, D5300, D5500, D5600 и D600, D610, Df.
  8. Video: 1920 X 1080 60p and 50p, but only in crop mode 1.3X... In normal mode, only 1920 X 1080 30p, stereo microphone. H.264 codec, 'MOV' container. Maximum video length is 30 minutes. 3.5 connectors for microphone and 3.5 for headphones. HDMI type C.
  9. Main display 3.2 in by 1.229 million points (640 X 480 X 4). The display is not touch, and not rotary. Exactly the same as D7100.
  10. The Nikon D7200 controls are very similar to previous models. Nikon D7000, D7100. The functionality of the additional monochrome display is greatly reduced. Now there you can see only a few useful values. In previous models, the functionality of the monochrome display was much larger and allowed you to configure and control much more parameters.
  11. Else: Nikon D7200 has a built-in focus motor for working with AF-type lenses. There is also a diaphragm rheostat for working with AI / AI-S-type lenses and lenses without CPU contacts. The built-in flash can remotely control external flash units in automatic modes using Nikon CLS.
  12. Nikon D7200 has Wi-fi and Bluetooth on board
  13. Together with a battery and a memory card and a bayonet cap, the camera weighs 770 grams.

Buffer

Pretty weak spot Nikon D7100 was small frame buffer. In the D7200 model, it increased approximately 2 times.

With all additional features disabled, the D7200 buffer is:

  • 12 RAW 14-bit lossless compression
  • 15 RAW 14-bit conventional compression
  • 16 RAW 12-bit lossless compression
  • 19 RAW 12-bit conventional compression
  • 15 RAW 14-bit lossless compression, 1.3X crop mode
  • 11 RAW + JPEG 14-bit lossless compression, JPEG quality priority
  • 16 RAW + JPEG 12-bit conventional compression, JPEG size priority
  • 30 JPEG L FINE Quality Priority
  • 53 JPEG L NORM Quality Priority
  • 76 JPEG L BASIC quality priority

The inclusion of all additional functions that improve image quality leads to a decrease in buffer capacity by only 1-2 frames.

With fast memory card SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB / s 32 GB during burst shooting in 'RAW 14-bit / lossless compression' mode, the brakes start after 19 frames.

My experience

Nikon D7200 is a very good camera. Its only problem, I would highlight the fact that it has not gone very far from the D7100. I don't see much point in upgrading from D7100 to D7200.

The question is which is better at the moment: D7200 or new D7500also remains open. But overall, I highly recommend looking at the newer model. It’s a pity that D7500 selected some useful functions, such as a diaphragm rheostat, a slot for a second memory card, the ability to use a vertical grip / battery pack, etc.

I consider this line of cameras to be the most successful and very functional. DX Models: D7100, D7200, D7500 and FX: D610, D750, D780 from this line are good balanced solutions.

It's important: a lot of comments about the Nikon D7200 camera can be found on Radozhiv on the page of his announcement.

Comments: 171, on the topic: Overview of Nikon D7200

  • mell

I bought 7200 from the start (i.e. 6 years) as my first camera.
I switched to it from canon 450-550. There was such a wow effect.
Then I shot at 810 / e, there was no such wow effect. Yes, the camera is better but not critical.
Then I worked with mark II, III - with the second I compared them head-on (I alternated cameras for a year), Nikon was better in everything (just for me).
to 7200 I bought a canon m50 (for video - 2 years ago) - this is the main drawback of not only 7200 but also Nikonov. In terms of photos, the 7200 is a sharp and gripping camera with excellent color reproduction. Cameras have just reached the limit - that it makes no sense to update for the sake of a picture, friends shoot on the d700, mark II - any content, everything suits. And given the presence of NFC and Wi-Fi in Nikon ... I did not have enough access to the flash. Life View is very nerdy. The fact that the screen is not a turntable even infuriated me more than the lack of a clear video.
Now I bought a second Canon RP camera, already like that. I wanted to. But if where to shoot I take 7200 and sigma 17-50. If I had bought a 5200, I would probably consider the 5200 a good camera (although it will obviously lose in grip)

The camera for myself has long been replaced by a telephone. Here everyone swears - they don't like the matrix, colors, exposure. Some kind of perverts) I filmed a bunch of content for different companies on various equipment - and for me the difference between a smartphone and a camera. what the camera is more convenient. That's all.

    • Dima

Niokon and good color reproduction? )

  • Eugene

People, we need advice. Will there be an increase in photo quality when moving from 3400 to 7100 (7200)? It is the question of the quality of the photo at the output, all other things being equal. You don't want to change the camera just for the sake of fast synchronization.

    • Ivan

Unlikely. It is much more effective to improve the quality of photos by using lenses and improving shooting skills.

    • Trueash

Will not. The 3400 is three years newer, has a slightly wider DD (13,9 versus 13,7) and color depth (24,8 versus 24,2), although a slightly lower "noise" limit at high ISO (1192 versus 1256).
      (A source: https://cameradecision.com/compare/Nikon-D3400-vs-Nikon-D7100)
But in real life it makes little or no difference. As Ivan rightly noted, the quality of the picture depends much more on the skill of the photographer, light and optics.
Well, again, for specific conditions some property may outweigh: for example, 5 fps is not enough for you and you desperately need 6. Or without an upper display - well, nothing! Or it's hard to carry one and a half kilos around your neck ...

      • Eugene

Actually, I want to change the camera because of the fast synchronization with the flash. Now I'm thinking whether the quality will not drop if I take 7100. In Diixomark 7100 knocks out fewer parrots than 3400. Although the difference is literally a few percent.

        • Victor

Trust less with the dhomark parrot, focus more on your eyes.

        • Trueash

Will not fall. Moreover, if you shoot with a flash. And dxomark is the same “reliable” resource as Tony Northrup: D

        • Ivan

You contradict yourself. In their first message, they wrote the exact opposite, that they do not want to change the camera for the sake of fast synchronization.
What do you want to get from this option? Do you shoot so many in these conditions?

          • Eugene

I've been here for two weeks already, thinking and searching. I’ve already told myself so much, mama don’t cry. But for the sake of synchronization, I will change the camera. If at first I was tormented by the question of how much it would get better, now “won't it get worse?”. I want to experiment.

          • Andrei

There he already scares that in a couple of years he will want the D500, so prepare new tips for choosing.

            • Ivan

In a couple of years, everything will change ten times.

              • Eugene

                Well, of course)

            • Eugene

So it seems to be uncontested on the crop)))) Bye….

              • Victor

                What does uncontested mean?

Other crops are not removed or what already? :-D

              • Eugene

                “What does uncontested mean?

Do not they remove other crops already? :-D "I mean this is a top crop. And if we change 7100, then only 500).

      • Eugene

Then the last question. 7100 costs $ 350. 7200 costs 550 dollars. Is 7200 worth the overpayment? The cameras are in a similar state.

        • Eugene

          * identical condition)

        • Victor

          Do not be.

At 7200, they put the parrots in the dhomark a bit (in fact, there is practically no difference), and added buffers. The buffer in the 7100 is frankly weak, but with fast flash drives it is possible to shoot sports completely.

          • Eugene

Thanks. I think in a couple of years I will change to D500 (if it goes down to $ 600 on the secondary). Actually, now I have spent so much money on "hobbies" that I have no time for frills.

        • Trueash

The 7100 has one obvious drawback, the so-called. "Banding": noticeable streaks in the shadows that appear when you try to stretch them 2-2,5 stops. It occurs infrequently, just an extra hassle. I noticed that I try to slightly overexpose the picture - even if a couple of percent of the highlights are knocked out, hell with them, but the shadows will be fine

          • Eugene

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind. I think this is not absurd for me.

      • Valery

You about what? There are different classes of cameras, not seeming to be about 7200.

    • Sergey

      Good afternoon!
I had d5300 and d7200 on my hands. They seem to say they have the same matrix and processor, but this is all nonsense.
At first, I thought that it seemed to me that the d5300 was somehow not so sharp, because I already had the d7200 for a long time and I got used to its handwriting. One day I got fed up with it and went to experiment on the balcony and found out that the d5300 is really not that sharp on the same lenses. And then I found out that whale 18-140 is also still that soap. 18-200 is much better and sharper in this regard, although I think it is quite soapy.
Further. Once I sat on the couch, tried to bring the d5300 to mind according to the settings and periodically took pictures of various objects at home. Here I click on the brand of the TV hanging on the wall. Between the wall and the TV, cm 7. I zoom in - the focus is on the wall. I click 10 more times, trying to somehow move the focus point to focus on the brand. Not! Can not. I take the d7200, put on the same glass, click on the brand - the focus is definitely on the brand. I think it's lucky. Once again I click on the brand - focus on the point. I click on the wall - the wall is in focus. That's the difference.
About the convenience of controlling the carcass as a whole is another joke. I took it on the d7200, when viewing the photo I pressed OK and it immediately showed 100% scale and you can immediately see the focus / out of focus. This cannot be done on the d5300, there is NO such setting. It was the last straw. I was fed up with d3xxx and d5xxx up to my throat. I had older models before the d5300, it's still worse there.
      Draw conclusions

      • B. R. P.

What conclusions do you propose to draw? That the 5300 is just an amateur camera, and the 7200 is an advanced one? This is already known to everyone.

        • Sergey

Conclusions about the “moo-oink” 3400 is better, and 5500 is even better. It's all nonsense. In Mitsubishi, or rather in Nikon, there are also marketers and sit thinking “but the matrices are the same” - no! Even if they are the same, they are configured differently. If you want to move on, you should switch to d7xxx without question. Or on ff

  • Erast

Please tell me which stabilizer to choose for N! CON D7200

  • Igor

Does anyone have any experience with the D7200 in conjunction with sigma art 18-35?
I really love this lens, but my D7000 constantly “makes me nervous” with focusing (especially if not on the center point). Very frequent chaotic misses ...
I changed the lens under warranty, but it did not help. I carried the carcass to the service, but they shrug their shoulders and say that it works fine on the D90, but nothing helps here and this is the problem of the Multi-CAM 4800DX module.
Therefore, I want to change it to D7200, in fact, because of a different focusing module.
Thank you in advance for your answers!

    • Sergey

      Good afternoon!
I've been using since 2017. Favorite lens, no focus questions

  • Roma

Hello, I have d7000 and 18-140, is it worth switching to this Nikon? Will there be a noticeable increase in detail, sharpness and dd? And is it much better than d7000 at high ISO (1600-3200)?

    • Rodion

I think it’s better to get hold of fast and high-quality optics than to change the carcass. Or change to FF then something.

      • Roma

Yes, there is an idea to buy 35mm 1.8g, I don’t want to switch to ff yet, so the question is about carcasses, is the d7200 really much better than the d7000 at high ISO, in detail and dd?

        • Rodion Eshmakov

To be honest, 35 / 1.8 is very amateur glass in the picture. It is better to look in the direction of Sigma lenses that are close in parameters. Or even the Samyang 35 1.4 manual.
I can’t call myself an expert on your question, but logically, the 24 megapixel sensor in the d7200 is a kind of reasonable resolution limit for APS-C cameras. I understand that there, as in the d7100, there is no low-pass filter. This makes it possible, when using high-quality optics (!) to obtain visually much sharper pictures in comparison with your same d7000. In terms of noise / dd, there will hardly be any colossal difference.
Also, do not forget that 24 megapixels will require more computing power when processing ravines, and also increase the risk of micro-lubrication, increase the requirements for optics.

  • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

And why is there no review on the D7500?

    • B. R. P.

No one gave for review - that's not.

      • Arkady Shapoval

I shot on the d500 and d7500, but I didn’t do a review, I don’t like the color from them and I don’t want to do a review, even a short one

        • Jury

but there are no “carrots” like on the D 700

          • Dima

the carrot is probably in the old nikons, in the newer green men)

        • Dima

This is a turn) Everything is so bad that there is no desire to do a review) Although it would be interesting to read about this sprinkled brick d500.

What is the working ISO in his ravchik? How many stops are worse than d610/d750?

  • Julia

Photos by Alexei Makeev are simply incomparable. Talented photographer.

  • Fedor

What amazing photos from Alexander! The couple sat on a mushroom and seemed to be having a conversation! Lovely :))))

    • Fedor

I apologize, from Alexey of course

  • Dmitro

Having purchased the D7200 together with Nikon 35 1.8 DX, and further away, the Sigma Art 35 1.4 DG add-on brought the brightness of the photos to a whole new level, with fantastic sharpness and separate production. The fringing is clear, the colors are beautiful, the curvature is not visible and the background blurs wonderfully.
I assumed that it would be more beautiful, but without thinking, what would the table...
