Comments: 16, on the topic: Announcement: Tamron 70-180mm F / 2.8 Di III VXD Model A056

  • Michael

This is a really interesting lens.

  • Alexander

For an ordinary amateur, who are the majority, there is no interest in such focal lengths ...!

    • Arkady Shapoval

Come on, if we take precisely focal lenses, then under the crop 55-200 (EGF just 80-300) it’s a very popular lens, not to mention 18-135 different systems (EGF just 27-200).
But if on the whole, then this is a pro-lens for its specialized tasks, primarily as a portrait-reporter, but yes, this is rarely necessary for an ordinary amateur photographer.

      • Alexander

So I am about that! For those with work-related photography - yes! But for the amateur - no! I also have a bunch of lenses, but in my amateur - home practice I don't want to change lenses at all and the best option on my D7000 is the Sigma 17-50 ... And, oddly enough, the Tamron 7100-17 behaves better on the D50 than on the D7000 ... I already wanted to sell it, but when I put it on the D7100, the picture completely changed ... The soapy areas sometimes appearing on the D7000 at the edges of the frame disappeared, and each time in different places, the overall image clarity and color rendition became better. But on the D7000 Sigma 17-50 showed itself very well, which cannot be said about the D7100 + Sigma 17-50 bundle ... Now I don't see the difference between Nikon 35 mm and Sigma 17-50 on the D7000 ... 65mm and 18-200mm ... And about 18-140 and 18-105, I generally keep quiet ... 18-140 is an extremely unfortunate and soapy lens!

      • Onotole

Not that I argue, but the set of focal points refers to the Nikon 70-180 Micro, it is just very highly specialized and its specialization is the subject, because it is very parfocal and allows you to quickly change the scale of the shooting (zoom) without the need to refocus. At the same time, autofocus is too slow for reporting.
Maybe this lens does not have a priority in reporting, but a subject (although the macro capabilities are slightly smaller)?

    • alexey_laa

In my opinion, “70-200” lenses are used very often on a full frame.

    • Alexey

A strange remark. I am an amateur and enjoy shooting on 80-200 2.8

      • Alexander

Well, yes, I did not correctly define my idea ... There are also amateurs with different preferences for types of shooting ...

        • Seladir

That's it, that is, not “For an ordinary amateur”, but “For me”. What is out of love is very individual. Although my default lens is the Sigma 17-70 Contemp., Nevertheless I adore Canon's 55-250 STM - very high image quality and a lot of subjects are available: portraits, wild animals, urban subjects with an unusual perspective, and even on the sunset can be viewed in a very different way at the far focal points.

        • Dim

Let's just say that amateurs can also have children who go in for sports or perform at concerts, matinees, and it may well be a beautiful wife ...

    • Joe

As an amateur photographer (I am not professionally engaged in photography) I declare that focal lengths in the range of 70-200mm (especially with aperture 2.8 - I have a similar lens) are in demand both in a set with full-frame cameras and when used with partial-frame cameras. Such a lens is convenient in many cases, when either it is not possible to get close to the subject, or there is a need to show some things in their perspective (which is difficult to obtain using wider-angle optics), or you need to separate the subject from the background ... Generally speaking - There are many scenarios for use, from portraits to landscapes.

      • Alexey

By the way, it is on the crop that such glass is convenient as a reportage - a free teleconverter (1.5x - 1.6x) is very convenient.

      • Roman

Yes, a normal universal short-range telephoto.

    • Roman

What does your personal intimate experience with one or two lenses have to do with the range of focal and other characteristics? There is a typical solution for telezoom: 70-210, 80-200. Budget and small at f / 4, more advanced and large at f / 2.8. Tamron managed to produce something intermediate for the mirrorless - with about the same set of focal lengths, with high aperture, in a relatively compact body that is both in length and in width (for the sake of this, they also sacrificed the stub, as I understand). It should turn out to be a good portrait lens - fast, compact, good for your money, using the advantages of mirrorless cameras. And then you appear peremptorily and habitually begin to talk about yourself, and not about the lens from the announcement.

      • Arkady Shapoval

Modern Sony has a stub on the sensor, because they did not bother with a stub, it would still complicate and increase both weight and cost

        • Roman

Yeah. And a new balance begins to emerge, quite interesting as for me. Some go in the direction of 7.1 due to the stub (including in the long run and intracameral), others in the direction of simply smaller sizes due to the reduction in the range of focal, but aperture aperture.
