Bengal fire on New Year's Eve 2020. We had 4 packs of lights, we burned them both one piece at a time, and whole armfuls. Filmed on the street, in this particular picture, a sparkler is pressed against the snow on a tree so that it is less mobile and easier to photograph. From about 300+ Bengal fire shots, I selected the best 10, and 2 of them were slightly processed. Filmed on a Jupiter-8 rangefinder lens and a Nikon D40 camera. This crumb is always easy to take with you and do not mind freezing or breaking. I was inspired to use Jupiter-8 by photographer Alexander Gvozd (look here for a selection of him on the site), and only thanks to his work, I once again decided to shoot a little on him. This lens makes for a nice out-of-focus area, and its rangefinder nature makes it easy to shoot macro (and only macro). Sparks from sparklers have an interesting shape. To get small tracers from them, I did a shutter speed in the range of 1 / 100-1 / 320 seconds. With this exposure, the flying sparks make a tracer-light broach, which adds a little dynamics and looks quite lively in the photo. The same photo was used by me as a poster for New Year's greetings on social networks. Of course, this comment is an example and does not participate in the competition.

Photos from a trip to the Northern Urals (Main Ural Range) Snow-white sculptures untouched by the snow dunes and the amazing morning of that day, I will remember for a long time. After skiing for 6 km, we got tired and started to lie down in the Mansi hut. Located in the valley of the Ural Mountains. The weather pleased us not only with the beautiful colors of dawn, but also on a clear night under a starry sky. So evening shooting was replaced by night and after a little sleep, morning)

On the eve of the new year 2020, I finally decided to shoot at blue hour. This idea has long been haunted. I had to shoot in rather difficult conditions. The air temperature was around 0 degrees with wind and snow, sometimes turning into rain. Snow in Siberia this year is notable and it was simply necessary to capture this beauty. Shot with Nikon D5300, Nikkor 50mm 1.8G lens. I really like the picture from this lens. The aperture was covered at 2.2, ISO 250, and since the shutter speed was 1/40, the snow turned into needles, but this did not spoil the atmosphere at all and gave the photo, in my opinion, some fabulousness. An ordinary headlamp was used as a backlight.

    • SashOK

Handsomely! Also likes to shoot in the blue hours.

      • Elena Belkova

        Thank you.

Shooting parameters - 16 mm, ISO 100, f 6.3, shutter speed 0,8 sec. Color grading in Lightroom and slightly in Topaz Studio - here I used the standard Urban preset

The photo was taken last year. This was my first winter love story. On acquaintances, they found me as a photographer, agreed on a photoset. We walked for only an hour and a half, since during this time my old man kenon 550d sat in the cold. This photo is the last from the photoset, and the only one that I remember. Kenon 550d + Kenon 50mm 1.8.

Winter 2019. After two months of waiting for snow and cold, this miracle did happen. My friend and I are creepy walkers on the ice. And now, the weather finally gave us a chance to get out on a welcome walk again. The Kiev Sea (Kiev Reservoir) was chosen as the place of deployment. The ultimate goal of the trip was an abandoned lighthouse, located in the middle of an artificial bay, and the embankment from which led to a special descent for ships (so that they could overcome the dam). And then the day came X. We dressed all the warmest that was in our closets, took liters of tea in thermoses, pulled two pairs of gloves on our hands, and still this was not enough, and we froze still at the approaches to the place of deployment. But there was nowhere to retreat, one and two canon 550d were charged on a frosty journey, so we set off. Halfway to the lighthouse, the first thermos was empty. The ice under our feet was not as strong as it seemed from the shore (though it had been a cold of -15 a week already). We already looked like two blocks of ice, but continued on our way. Having reached the lighthouse, we spent all the remnants of strength, desire and internal warmth. All we wanted was a large fireplace and a barrel with mulled wine. Slowly raising our carcasses after resting on the not so cold snow, we found this picosel on the outskirts of the lighthouse. Judging by the face of its owner and our faces, this picosel was the only creature who liked this frost. I took out my camera with icy fingers, took a couple of photos of this face, and I didn’t take the camera anymore that day. We climbed into the lighthouse, looked at the view from the panoramic windows, and left to bask under the roof of the nearest cafe. Unforgettable emotions, this year we will repeat the trip (as soon as the water freezes, of course). Canon 550d + ef 50mm 1.8 ii. Photo reception for this photo is called “icy fingers”

Yes, this year is such a winter that if only the photos for this year were evaluated, then everyone would fly by. And there was nothing to evaluate.

      • Arkady Shapoval

Once again, winter photography is not only about the presence of snow in the frame.

This photo was taken in December 2019, in the Taganay NP, in the Valley of Fairy Tales. I really liked these remnant stones on one of the small peaks. Constant low clouds and snowstorms obscured the surrounding landscape and these green boulders showed up in full. It was the laconicism that attracted me and I tried to convey it. The weather did not spoil and, perhaps, this is the best shot I took on that trip. I want to say that you should not be afraid of the “non-flying” weather for shooting - you can always find something interesting and try to convey it!
Shot on an old wide-angle zoom, Tokina 20-35mm. Focal length 20mm, f7, ISO 400. Gluing of two frames (almost lacked the width of the angle).

It was last winter. I was offered a walk. Naturally, taking a camera with me (canon 550d + ef 50 1.8) I went for a walk in the center .. From the very beginning it was boring, but later I remembered the camera and decided to get it. After half an hour, the shooting was already in full swing :) Being an amateur in this area I decided to build myself a pro, I start placing my girlfriend under the light, adjusting my looks, choosing the background, decor, etc. When it started to get dark and froze a bit, we decided to drink some mulled wine to defuse the situation and keep warm. However, who knew that it would begin to snow. On this we decided to stop shooting and go home, but still the beautiful photos on the instagram that popped up in my head did not give me rest. There is a camera, there is a model, there is a lamp environment, it is a sin not to seize the opportunity! I decided to play around with the camera settings a bit and having a little rest, it was decided to take a few more frames. Yes Yes. This is one of them. Although it was quite cold that day (as far as I remember), but still the desire to create beauty prevailed. And here is the result! Then there was a long and painful treatment, for even though I set up the camera and set the aperture to 1.8 well, as far as the lens allowed, because it was already late evening, and a shutter speed of 1/160 to catch the falling snow. However, still then I had to finalize the photo in the lightroom and here is the result. After I sent the processed photo to my friend, it was very nice when someone admired your work for the first time :) After that, another half a year this photo hung on this friend's avatar and the other day she contacted me again and said that I would like to repeat the shooting. Never give up and do what you like!
