Comments: 99, on the topic: Announcement: Nikon D780

  • Daniel

    Screwdriver left

    • Ololoyev

The flash was removed and the battery pack with a normal grip and the release button are not promised yet.

      • Arkady Shapoval

In terms of flash, it became similar to the Canon 6D series of cameras of about the same class as the Nikon D780. Most likely, for the same reason, the Nikon D850 became without a flash like the Canon 5D series, and the Nikon D500 like the Canon 7D series.

And the battery pack instead of the battery grip migrated from the Z6.

        • Ololoyev

That's right, Arkady. Oh, this is the desire to be “in the stream” and not stand out - we will not see interesting solutions. The same Jared Polin “drove” through Nikon because of their pricing policy - the Z6 is (and will be) cheaper than this new product. At the same time, the D780 assumes an increased use of LiveView due to its superior shooting parameters (shutter speed).
I won’t be surprised if manufacturers roll out a combo solution in the form of JVI / EVI on SLR cameras.

          • Arkady Shapoval

Most likely in the near future, the Nikon / Canon hybrid viewfinder will not be introduced. Rumor has it that Pentax will do this.

          • York

"I wouldn't be surprised if manufacturers roll out a JVI / EVI combo solution on DSLRs." - it's high time, in an amicable way.

It is already fully understood that the JVI and EVI are convenient for different types of shooting, and it would be very logical to combine them.

    • Pokemon

      It's a good news.
Perhaps the battery pack will fit the D750.
The old battery was left-EN-EL15b, the memory card slot also did not change to XQD.
The flash removed this minus ..
And the price got close to the D810.

      • Arkady Shapoval

Most likely will not be suitable. It is, in principle, not designed for a handle, only for a battery pack (only batteries, without additional control).

      • Ivan

a battery pack of 750 will not work. The 780 on the lower sole does not have a connector with contacts. And the photo shows the WT-7A wireless transmitter.

        • Arkady Shapoval

Many cameras also do not have an interface connector for the battery grip, this connector is located in the battery compartment.

          • Ivan

Pokemon talked about the handle of 750, so I replied that it certainly would not work.

            • Arkady Shapoval

Clearly, inside the site I can’t see the chain of comments, sometimes I answer without taking into account this

  • Ali

It is a pity, the AF coverage area through evi is flawed as on the d750. Be sure to stick a spoonful of tar in a barrel of honey. It seems to be a good camera in terms of performance, with an autofocus module flawed in the coverage area.

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Rather, through the JVI

      • Ali

Exactly Arkady, this is a typo.

  • US6IBD

In vain the flash was removed. Loss of control in the TTL mode of an external flash with a spacing on the IFC channel.
There remains only the option with synchronizers YN622 (TX-N).

    • Sergei

Not a problem. I have 5 Sigmas with camera traps. 4 per racks, one per camera. No nafik channels are needed.

  • Dmitriy

Interestingly, they will update the Nikon d610? The camera is already old by modern standards, but that does not mean that it is bad. She must be specially left because This is the cheapest full frame.

    • Arkady Shapoval

So far, it is assumed that the d610 will not be updated due to the release of Z6.

    • Pokemon

The D610 and D810 were discontinued at the end of last year, and the remainder is on sale now.
The cheapest FF camera was the Sony A7 of the first series, which was also discontinued at the end of that year.

  • Arthur

It seems like a good evolution, since d750 itself was waiting for it. But I never saw the point of changing my own. For this price, as for me, it is better to take d850, z6 / z7. Although someone can judge. I waited for one, more coverage with dots in the viewfinder, but didn't get it. And the fact that the flash was removed is a big plus, always enraged in d750

    • Arkady Shapoval

Nikon full-frame cameras do not have a significant increase in coverage with frame focus points, even when switching to D5. Design limitations of the JVI and AF system itself. There are two exits: either the BZK Z6 / Z7 or the crop D500.

      • Arthur

So, I wanted to take d500 for the future. I wanted to know, I plan to take it in conjunction with 18-35 1/8 and in the future buy 50-100 1/8. Do you think I will lose image quality after d750? By frames, 60% of filming is reportage, 40% is portraits and staged shots. Didn't work on d850 yet: D

        • Arkady Shapoval

In something you lose, in something not. Personally, I would in no case go from d750 to d500. In many tasks, the picture with the d750 will be better. For many years, covering the frame with focus points does not bother me at all. In any case, you need to look specifically at what and how and with what requirements you plan to shoot.

          • Arthur

That is, it is better not to change the picture quality? Is it possible to save on d850 or on z6 / z7? I just want something new from the camera, in terms of autofocus, especially tracking. As well as normal synchronization with the phone, not that old wmu bottom. At work, I often take pictures off the phone, and I have to suffer

            • Ildar

Isn’t it easier to connect a card reader to the phone via OTG?
It seems that under any connector is already there.
At the D750 itself, until I make a hybrid Nikon viewfinder, I will not go anywhere. Although it pleases the possibility of using the mirrorless features to enlarge the image as in live view when focusing on manual lenses, although this is rarely needed.

        • Jankowsky

Do not under any circumstances switch to D500 and D7500 from full frame !!! If anyone has not seen pictures from these two poor expensive crops, you will wash your face with bloody tears, looking at their images blurred by Sonev's watercolors on ISO 100 with terrible color reproduction, after an absolutely clean, perfect, Nikon's classic picture of cameras D600-700, D3, DF, D800- 810

          • Arkady Shapoval

Oh, I didn't like the color d500 so much that I didn't even review it. Shot 4 shots in different conditions, from studio to super-high ISO. The client did not like one of the shootings (last year there were only 2 “problem” shootings). I have nothing against the d500, a very nice camera, but I feel that I was drawn to the bad color sect of these cameras :(

            • Pokemon

Arkady, on the contrary, must be shared with the people.
              *
And what is the second problematic shooting, if not secret?
              *
Radozhiv really lacks a subjective article about unsuccessful color profiles for cameras, and about the concept of “bad color”, in particular. A good topic for discussion would be.

              • Valery A.

Subjective article about “good / bad color” of cameras? Even an objective article on this topic will cause another controversy, srach and mutual insults of experts.

              • Pokemon

                Well why.
If everything will be with arguments and without fanboyism, then why not.
Enough paired shots, without caustic comments, but only with justification why a particular color profile is less successful than camera X.
The topic is interesting and it is not necessary to slip into bazaar vocabulary.

              • Arkady Shapoval

Paired shots are a hell of a topic

            • Igor Kozyr

              RAW or JPEG?

            • varezhkin

+1 about the bad color of the D500, in general there is something too sophisticated with color, dirt is at a minimum. iso from which not to wash

          • Denis

What do you grind? Expert sofa. You worked with these cameras that you write the sick person’s game

          • Sergey

And d7200 norms or garbage too

        • Miroslav

For video, it's just perfect! And for a number of shootings (subject, food and the speed of continuous shooting is higher than d750 (without 4k). Plus the absence of high-aperture zooms 1.8 ... And the price factor has not been canceled

        • Maksim

I changed 750 to the 500th in the summer, No, no and no, the picture is not at all happy, even in the report after 750, 18-35 I hooked everything on it a couple of times (Now I take off the crop glass at 810.

      • Ali

Arkady, OVI does not affect the size of the autofocus module. It affects the design position of the mirror and the size of the additional mirror transmitting the image and mounted in the main one. The main mirror is placed at an angle with respect to the module, this reduces the area. In addition, in this mirror, an additional one is also mounted. All this needs to be constructively placed, and in addition to be done very reliably constructively. But, in the d500, it was possible to squeeze the Multi-CAM 20K, which is installed in the Nikon D5. So it's possible to squeeze it into other Nikon models. In the 21st century, it’s indecent for manufacturers to shoot transcoding. I do it with pleasure when I shoot for the soul, slowly. But if I shoot sports from nine in the morning until ten in the evening, then this is periodically annoying. There is no time there to refocus. And then there is no desire to crop. I used to shoot in such a way as to get ready-made shots. To shoot through the monitor, and even with glasses I am uncomfortable. Firstly, hands get tired of running with outstretched arms, secondly, all the same, all day all day on LV it’s a pity the matrix. Yes, and throw a glance through the glasses so as not to lose peripheral vision and not to fall on something and not to trip over something tired. In general, this camera is for amateur photography and videographers. The d5 AF module suits me in terms of coverage. But, the camera is expensive, very expensive.

        • Arkady Shapoval

This is understandable, but even in d5 the coverage is not much larger and does not reach the same d500. It’s very difficult to make an additional mirror the size of the main one, from here, it seems to me, the main problem of coating

          • Ali

Well, the reason that covering the focus points in d5 does not reach the d500 is banal and simple. The module is the same, but the area that you need to cover with it (matrix) is different. Crop is a crop. As for the additional mirror, I completely agree with you here. But about the hybrid system, here I see obvious advantages. Now it’s quite easy to get rid of such a scourge as back and front focus on DSLR. I don’t see any problems, make such a feature programmatically as auto-focusing the focusing system when working through a mirror with a separate sensor. For example, you can make (the manufacturer) such an optics tuning algorithm; focusing from a tripod through LV to the focus point (table for example), remembering the position of the focus, switching to mirror mode and substring in case of mismatch. Further memorization if necessary.

            • Gantmaher

You have exactly described the method already implemented in D5 and 850

              • Ali

The problem is that morons marketers can trim this feature in younger models.

              • VPF

The D7500 is also available, but according to colleagues who tried to use this setting in the D850 and D7500, they admitted that it is not working in fact.

    • Ivan

Arkady is right, the design features of DSLRs do not allow focusing over the entire area of the frame. Ken Rockwell has already given advice on choosing: “if money matters and you're mostly a stills shooter or don't want to carry an external flash for use for critical fill-flash, get today's deeply discounted D750. If you mostly want to shoot video or Live View stills, get the less expensive Z6 which works better for video and Live View and adds a great electronic finder (the finders of the D750 and D780 turn black during Live View). If you want a combination of great video and Live-View capabilities and the superior autofocus of a DSLR for action, get the D780 ”.

    • D100500

Arthur, “Under no circumstances should you switch to the D500”!
You will lose the excellent colors of the full frame (if you shoot right away in jpeg, of course). And you will sob with bloody tears due to sharp crop shots, which do not miss out on your 60% report due to the almost full coverage of the frame with focus points. You’ll forever ruin the photographer’s karma if you pick up this flawed device and expel a full-frame witness sect, the dynamic range of which goes beyond even the most expensive monitor.

  • Vitaly

I started reading the specifications and I see that this is what I want, until I read that the built-in flash is missing. I didn’t believe at first that Nikon followed the Boot's path. The built-in puff is such a blessing, without which I won't even look at this model now.

    • Arkady Shapoval

It's very funny that some built-in flash is absolutely not important, while others, on the contrary, is a very, very important attribute.
For me, the built-in flash is still better than no flash. Recently, he filmed a wedding in the studio at d500. Synchronizers of the studio refused to be friends with the d500 (or camera problems). The external flash was left in a different location. As a result, there was no quick solution to the problem, but it could be very simple - it was enough to raise the built-in flash, set M 1/128 and set fire to the studio blocks. I had to remove 50% without pulsed light, and the other 50% to remove one of the guests and my memory card on Nikon D3300.

      • Ali

That's right. The built-in flash helped me out in the exact same situation. Just did not take off the wedding, and the athlete.

      • Ivan

Arkady, here only Arthur said that the built-in flash infuriates him, which is difficult to understand. It is also difficult to understand his motivation for changing the camera for minor improvements in focusing and the possibility of seamlessly copying “photos” (not photos) to the phone.

        • Arkady Shapoval

In the group Radozhiva on Facebook complain about it too

          • Ololoyev

Arkady, how to say ... Of course, you can buy synchronizers, of course, you can buy another flash, which will be in command mode. But this is again a "one-sided" game - towards oneself.
Of course, the CIS market is specific, but damn it - to remove the small module "hiding behind" the greater hermeticity of the case ... Well, such a decision. And so - they took away and gave nothing in return. It's a shame, listen! ©

      • D100500

Arkady, shift the responsibility for preparing the shooting to the camera, although you could take a small external flash just in case)

        • Arkady Shapoval

I had it, but they left it in another place, not in the car that was driving to the studio. Of course, I am personally responsible for everything. The essence of the story about specific points where the built-in flash can come in handy.

          • Dim

For me, the built-in flash is not only necessary, but very necessary. Especially on cameras, where it can be controlled. I have two cameras and two flashes in my backpack. This, of course, you can put one as a command on the camera, and the second as a slave. The question arises - why hit the team in the face, if you can place two on the sides or use one as a counter ... For me, this is not the way of Boot, but the way of greed. In the end, they will punish themselves - they will simply overheat the secondary market.

            • Pokemon

              The secondary is already overheated.
Over the past 2 years, almost all used ff cameras have fallen in price.

  • Vladislav

    Low-pass filter removed in d780?

    • Arkady Shapoval

No, they didn’t. For 24 MP on a full frame it is not rational to remove it

      • Vsevolod

Hello Arkady! Why is it not rational to remove the AA filter for 24MP FF? What is the difference with 24MP cropped matrices ?? in both my cameras are matrixes without an AA filter. 24MP crop and 46MP FF. And very good.

      • Pokemon

Curiously, the Sony A7m3, Nikon Z6 filter is missing (if my memory serves me right).
There is no filter on the 14MP Kodak. Detailing is good, but moire often climbs.

  • Ivan

Good day! I want to go to full frame with the D90. I was considering a D750 for purchase, but the D780 came out. I use only for photos, I do not shoot video. Does it make sense to overpay for the D780? Since I shoot a lot in poor lighting conditions, the difference in ISO (204800 versus 12800) is confusing. How much will these numbers influence the result, or is this another marketing move?

    • BB

The D750 has ISO “HI1” and “HI2”, i.e. equivalent to 51200. In fact, for a matrix 12800 - ceiling. BSI CMOS should be a little better, but, I think - not twice, and even less 4.
Focusing module (on paper) is slightly better, burst speed is slightly higher, mirrorless functions are added. The flash was cut out, the normal bat block was cut out.
It's up to you to decide what is important to you and what is not. For me, a camera without a normal battery pack is a toy that is not suitable for long-term operation. I like the D750 on the whole, but this is the only FF I have used for a long time (not counting the film ones). When holding the D7100 and D750, there is not much difference in sensations.

      • Alba

And what is the difference between the Nikon D750 and D7500, and which is better anyway? I want to update the camera, I stopped at the d7500.

        • Pokemon

Have difficulty finding Google / Yandex?
These two cameras differ in matrix size.
The D750 is a more interesting purchase than the D7500.

    • Pokemon

The hyped ISOs in the d780 are likely to be marketing ones. At d780, the matrix is identical to z6. Boost workers ISO z6 relatively d750 is, but small.
Another point is that the d780 is more expensive than the d750 by about 600 $. The question is how much is justified and besides, the D850 has slightly fallen in price.

      • Pokemon

Many are advised to take immediately z6, if there are no normal lenses for a full frame.

        • Ivan

Existing lenses are suitable for a full frame, and it will be expensive to buy new ones for Z. For Nikon adapters, I put up an incomprehensible price tag, and not all lenses work according to reviews.

    • Arkady Shapoval

It is unlikely that you will go beyond ISO 6400 during the actual filming, therefore you should be extremely skeptical about 204.800. If finances allow, then, of course, 780 is preferable

      • Ivan

780 appeared on sale, the price tag is 160k, I think the choice in the direction of 750 for 62k is obvious :)

        • Pokemon

It turns out 2300 Euro. Expensive and for 170-180k, you can take the gray D850.

  • Artem

What makes me happy with the D780 is that the D750 is getting cheaper. ))) I plan to switch from D7200 to D750.

  • Pokemon

Arkady, did Nikon Ukraine offer you a new product for testing?

    • Arkady Shapoval

They even can’t read the name of the site correctly, not that they offer something :)

  • Basil

Nothing new, nothing outstanding, for the photo there is no point in changing 750 to 780.
If there are such unique people who shoot video on Nikon, then it will probably be interesting to them, and then if it still does not have a visual grid of the field of sharpness, then for the video it is so-so.
As for me, they just released the camera just to release it, because the market requires new products.

    • Andrei

Take the Z6 and you will be thrilled ... the Z optics are two heads higher than their counterparts under the mirror ...

      • Roman

That is, she herself takes off for you, do not need to invent anything?

        • Dmitriy

What are you going to come up with?

    • Dmitriy

And there is nothing fundamentally new for a long time, everything is in the details. As for me, if the af will be a little better already gut, as well as: lifeview with focus on the eyes, touch screen, shutter speed 1/8000 versus 1/4000 for d750, work and enjoy)))

  • Dmitriy

So far - the best choice for the pros, at least in my case (wedding photography), where you have to shoot in different difficult conditions. I have long wanted a cool lv mode and not a braking miracle like the d750. In general, you must definitely take it. For me, the Z6 is not a competitor, because one card slot is not serious - I cannot deliberately risk that if I have the opportunity to shoot with a camera with a take. I think to take the d780, and then wait for new products, namely the Z5 and there it is already decided)

  • Volodimir

Arkady, if you will look around / test Nikon d780?

  • Createst

Hello. Having nikon d7500 and 85mm 1.8, I want to go to full frame and can't decide who can help me find my way. I choose between the expensive d780, in conjunction with the 85mm, and the more affordable nikon d750, having bought the sigma 35mm 1.4 before it (I really liked this lens). Can anyone advise?

    • Novel

Well, you definitely won't get by with 85 mm in a full frame. You can shoot this way only at 35 mm or only at 50 mm, but 85 mm is too non-universal focal.

  • Lawyer

Which is better to take 780 or z6ii?

    • Ivan

Incorrect question. What do you mean better? For whom is it better? These are essentially two different systems, with different mounts and lenses.

      • Lawyer

        Why is it not correct.
I ask those who are in the subject, on the forum about photographic equipment
That's why I asked that they are different
I just wanted to hear someone's thoughts on this topic.
In any case, I already bought myself a 780

        • Ivan

Which is better, a truck or a sports car? Probably, the first is more suitable for the transportation of goods, and the second is more suitable for racing. This is not to say that one of them is better. Everyone is better for their tasks.
The models you specified cannot be compared for which one is better or worse. They are completely different.

          • Lawyer

Instead of help, all the water is of some kind, I have already chosen ph, thanks, Ivan, they helped)

            • Ivan

No water needed. What kind of help did you need? A story about all Nikon systems? Comparison of the two cameras you mentioned? This will take several pages. For example, if I was asked which is better - D780 or Z6II, then I would answer D850. That is, for me, neither one nor the other is better. If they asked me which camera to get from these two, I would choose the Z6II. And if they offered me a gift in money, then I would not buy any camera at all, but would buy lenses for my old cameras. Everyone has different priorities. Nobody knows why you had such a choice between only these models, why Nikon, maybe you already have a park of optics and accessories. Once again, neither 780 nor 6 is better, they are different.

Frankly speaking, they are not that different. Both are full-frame, both will allow you to get the same picture, both support af-s optics (one through an adapter), and obviously a person does not have z-optics yet. It is clear that the person was interested in nuances, but only the owner of both cameras could tell about them. It's good that there are still people who are able to make decisions on their own :)

At least someone on this resource will take pictures so that you can compare other people's photos with other people's photos, Victor.

Why do I need this?) What kind of default picture in a jeep these two cameras give out, I have already seen, and then it all depends on a particular individual - a fact, time-tested)))
Some people and Canon have enough skills to spoil the picture (despite urban legends), others - and Nikon is good to shoot)))

The question "Which is better to take 780 or z6ii?" common and does not have a single common answer. No one in the world will be able to answer it, because there are no input data, criteria, and so on.
What to shoot, where, how, what kind of optics is there (maybe af / af-d lenses?), What experience is there, for video or for photos, is compactness important or not, JVI or EVI, etc.

For starters, here's what - decide, mirrorless or DSLR. And this will already be 90% of the answer to your question. You need to start with this article. https://radojuva.com/2015/11/ovi-i-evi-ovf-and-evf/
