Comments: 18, on the topic: Announcement: Tokina atx-m 85mm F1.8 FE

  • Michael

The same optical design as the Viltrox 85mm and the Viltrox are cheaper.

    • Andrei

and? a lot of lenses with the same optical schemes and different prices.

      • Arkady Shapoval

Actually a little. More often these are old fifty dollars. Most modern lenses have their own schemes. As an example, Sigma art has all its own schemes.
As for Tokina, this does not do her credit that the company has sunk to copying schemes from the Chinese, even if it is their common project. Moreover, lately it has been pouring from empty to empty. Suffice it to recall all sorts of "new" (spoiler: old) 100 / 2.8, 11-16 / 2.8, 16-28 / 2.8, etc.

        • Andrei

Arkady, you prekrano understood what I meant. The lens scheme does not determine its value. Even materials do not determine its value. The cost depends solely on the greed of the manufacturer and the volume of production. You can make a thing out of poop, but if it's piece production, margin and certification will push the price up to candy.

          • Arkady Shapoval

No, you specifically wrote about the schemes there, now you’ve started talking about the cost. About the cost here it was not at all.

            • Andrei

Well then. Michael clearly linked the scheme with the price of the lens, to which I replied that the price does not depend on the scheme.

              • Arkady Shapoval

Well, I didn’t answer Mikhail, but to you. Although yes, I already understood what you mean

          • koba

Sorry, but not exactly! Materials sometimes strongly determine the value of any product, also regarding lenses. If special glasses are used, they are not only expensive, but sometimes require additional processing costs, any kind of marriage also increases costs. But the circulation of the product, as well as the indirect costs of the manufacturer, most of all affect the cost, of course. Therefore, the lenses have a very large difference in cost. It also happens that a manufacturer sells products at very reasonable prices, such as the super-duper Voigtlanger 58 / 1.4 with lead glasses inside, but this is partly for advertising purposes, partly this company produces a huge amount of other equipment (the same Cosina, which produces and Voigtlander, and the real Carl Zeiss. Not to be confused with the so-called fake ZEISS (instead of Carl Zeiss!) For Sony, which is mostly produced by Tanron). Yes, over the past 10 years, after the development and delivery to the market of high-quality optical glass by Chinese companies, their cost has decreased several times, but here the question arose of reducing not the retail cost of lenses, but their cost, that is, obtaining the maximum possible profit, which is the only goal production of any product under capitalism.

  • Trueash

I am frosty ... I read about Tokina, for some reason I think about Fuji, and I ask myself a question: "And what has Sonya got to do with it?" : D

  • Andrei

I am tormented by the question why all the new lenses under RF and FE make it heavy and huge. The good old Canon 85 / 1.8 was of quite acceptable quality, the filter was only 58mm and weighing about 400g. Turning to the BZK, I calculated a certain decrease, if not weight, but got what I got. How long will homosexual rule the world? Sad of all this ((

    • Arkady Shapoval

It seems to me that this situation is due to the fact that modern full-frame mirrorless cameras are going more and more into the professional or semi-pro sphere, where quality is important and weight and so on are not always important. Because everything is so big, heavy and expensive. But, most likely, this is only one of the reasons. Another important thing is that sales in the number of units of equipment are falling, so the cost per unit rises to compensate for the losses.

      • Andrei

And how is professionalism related to dimensions? There is a reasonable ratio of weight, size and distortion. 600g, this is not 400, but two lenses, the difference is already half a pound. I believe that modern technology allows you to make the lens better than the old while maintaining weight.

        • Arkady Shapoval

Everything is quite trivial. Conventionally, for example, you need less vignetting, better detail in the corners of the frame - make large lenses with a margin. Some of them work quite well even on medium format. And besides, there are lightweight lenses, but usually they are inferior to more advanced ones, at least in aperture ratio. And again, if the market is moving towards the pro-segment, then this is exactly what makes the growth in weight and dimensions

          • koba

There is one more thing - companies are given a disadvantage that their high-aperture lenses do not provide maximum optical properties at open apertures. And there is only one way out - either the use of fluorite in ordinary fixes, which is inconceivable, or an increase in the size of the lenses or even the entire lens unit, so that only the central part “works”. Look at the new Milvuses, to what sizes and weights have they come, and the Otus? Here is the new Nikon 58mm, its weight is 2,2 kg, and of course it gives the best quality among analogs at the aperture of 0,95, it also costs 8200 dollars. To be honest, I saw the Otus 55 / 1.4 work and the quality it gives is such that attach it to any camera, the owner will have the feeling that he has changed the camera itself! Not a bad thing for professionals and enthusiasts alike, as you can already get it for $ 2000 or less.

            • Vladimir

Well, they buy aperture lenses to shoot on an open one, practice when the lens is 1,4, but everyone tries to shoot at 2,8 remained in film times. Personally, I'd rather buy a lens with aperture of 1,8, but so that everything was ok there on the open, than 1,4, which you need to cover to get an acceptable picture.

    • Vladimir

Canon 85 / 1.8 in comparison with other 85 / 1.8 (Nikon, Sony) is just poop, there wild ha and generally open can be called conditionally working. It is not surprising, the lens has been produced unchanged since the early 90s. And if earlier he could be forgiven, because Sonya was almost twice as expensive, now the price with Nikon / Sony is equal.
However, I agree with you that the system should have light and compact lenses. Just the optical design in new lenses is usually more complicated, more than any special glasses. Another question is that the canon in the production of lenses for Erok decided to show off and start with super-fast lenses, which weigh (and cost) a lot.

  • Human

No matter how I tried to search on aliexpress, I did not find the Meike 85 mm F1.8 with autofocus on the E mount. They are only manual. Either I'm looking badly, or the error came out

  • Vladimir

What for is it needed if the native Sonin 85 / 1.8 costs the same $ 500 and you can come, feel, buy it in almost any store that sells cameras.
