  • Trueash

The photos are cool, you can’t say anything. But I would like to know about the lens itself

    • Aries

a very good projection lens in the field of 100 lines per millimeter has a resolution ... ... this somewhere around 36MP will provide
.. covers the 8x10 optical Tessar diagram ...
.. very contrasting, like all projectors .. the portrait will not work very well .. very good for technical filming (he shot a lot for the design of doctoral doctoral scientific reports), perhaps all

      • Kirill

Aries, what lens are you talking about? If about Industrial I100U, then here the error is not 100 lines per millimeter, but 80! It does not cover 8x10cm, but 6x9cm! What does it mean provides 36mP, you can not compare a pixel with a lineature! DOT AND SQUARE, THESE ARE DIFFERENT THINGS! Yes, they are recounted, but the program or (RIP) processor does it, if we are talking about offset printing, these are very complex things. They can’t be compared like that. Still manual optics was designed for the film, and the film itself is voluminous due to grain. The figure, it is flat, well, since the matrix itself has no volume. That's why manual optics gives more blur than digital. This Saveliev described! As for contrast, all the optics, well, that old one as well as Industar I100U has, although it has multilayer enlightenment, but in practice it works as a single layer. That is, the counter light is poorly held. Or relatively normal, that is, for technical shooting it is better to use other format optics, it is still available. It covers a format of 4x5 inches or more. She has excellent resolution, there are even macro lenses up to format cameras! The whole advantage of Industar I100U is that it makes it possible to work with Tilt-shift. And I used it as an experimental option in order to understand if I should work with format optics and tilt-shift. Or is it better to stay on the standard one and to glue as before (staking).

        • Rodion

In this message there are a lot of controversial things, misconceptions and myths. I will leave without comment the statement about the resolution. However this lens does not have MC. “Covers” and “intended” are also different things, don't be confused. As for the resolution, the triplet works great at F / 11.

          • Kirill

Rodion, the fact of the matter is that there is almost nothing for him, MS is on this lens, since the color of the lenses, it speaks for itself, is such a purple hue. If there was no enlightenment, I assure you it would be a nightmare, I know the old optics before the 1950s. There were white lenses, the counter was not held at all, here Industar I100U holds it, although it is even strange. But about the fact that MS and single-layer enlightenment, then it is difficult to distinguish them on our optics, they also hold counter badly, they also catch hares, well, maybe they lose less light, but I did not check that. Resolution is the same controversial issue, since we write one thing in the passport, but in fact it is completely different, everything still depends on the copy. And why a triplet, isn't it a Tessar, after all, our Industars, usually copied from the German Tessars. But again, there is little information! If you know something, maybe there is a description for it, I didn't find anything worthwhile!

            • Arkady Shapoval

Actually, the color in this case only says that there is at least some kind of enlightenment and not necessarily MS.

              • Kirill

Arkady, but how do you know that MC or single-layer enlightenment. If everything is clear with optics without enlightenment, then it is not clear here, it is good if the manufacturer manufactures the MS symbols on the front of the lens. By the way, I found out an interesting thing about old lenses, I don’t know how much this is true. It turns out there was enlightenment, but it was chemical in the form of a liquid that was simply applied to the lenses. And over time, this optics was covered with a natural film, it looks like a rainbow film, like machine oil in water. At its old CarlZeiss Jena Compur-Rapid 1936 release. I noticed such a film, I thought it was mold. When I read in nete, it turned out to be a film from time to time. The glasses are intact, there are no holes from the fungus, and the fungus itself is not. But the film couldn’t bring it out.

          • Kirill

Rodion, a triplet, they generally love clamped diaphragms, if I am not mistaken, there was a triplet on 166 Lover.

  • Valery

The lens must be compared with similar lenses for photo magnifiers, such as meyer helioplan 4,5 / 105, culminar 4.5 / 105, e-congo 4,5 / 105, meopta belar 4,5 / 105, etc., then you can do conclusions, and it turns out that a good photographer did his job beautifully, respect,

    • Kirill

I agree, but the goal was to use it as a gimbal! Tired of sticking STAKING.

  • Kirill

Understand, it’s very difficult to describe how I shoot from this lens. I cut a lot, if I described the principle of a gimbal camera, then there was not enough space on the site! It is so complicated, there are calculation formulas. But to work on them, it’s certainly sadism!

    • Rodion

In my opinion, this (about the work of the gimbal camera) would be the most interesting to see, but you cut it out. Or they didn't want to write. As a result, there is no information about the lens or the principle of working with it. The only value is good photographs describing the applied shooting techniques. But what does this have to do with Industar?

      • Rodion

I would also like to see on which apertures the photos were taken, for example.

        • Kirill

The settings are quite simple, the aperture is F11, but diffraction is no more otherwise, I hope no need to explain what it is! Exposure 1/250 sec, to avoid micro smearing. Iso differently when 100, and when 200, but not more, since the Nikon d300s camera is quite noisy. And the rest is work with light, I measure the exposure with a flash meter, although I have already learned by eye. Harder to sharpen.

      • Kirill

And what information interests you, that it is from the average format enlarger and has a large focal distance. This is a plus, because the tilt-shift can be used if it understands what! I wrote that it is better to use more format lenses: The same Zeiss. Moreover, such consoles already exist, I won’t say for sure, but Cambo seems to be here. Moreover, there are adapters for both the camera and lenses. Unique design! Check out the photographer Oleg Weidner. He on YouTube showed how he takes off.

    • Irina

it would be very interesting to read about the gimbal camera, and formulas, and in general you can have more technical part)
super photo, great article, thank you very much! :)

      • Kirill

If I will describe this, then I’ll have to lay out the schemes, so you won’t understand. I will say this, it is necessary to test it on a good cardan camera itself. This will replace a bunch of formulas for you! I don’t understand why this is being studied in theories, photography is practice! You do not need to know what hyperfocal distance is, it is important for you to be able to work with it, but this is me for example!

  • Alexey

Thanks to the author for the article. It would be nice if you laid out the patterns of light in pictures.

  • Boris

Personally, I generally have great respect for the Samodelkins, folk talents - engineers who are not afraid to be booed by someone, often out of envy, that it is not given by nature to be handy and smart. History has proven that it is these people who are the driving force of progress. On a specific topic, I will say: indeed, lenses for medium and especially large format often have a unique pattern that is not comparable in visual effect to any small format. And experiments on their application in modern photography are fully justified. And to create a kind of "cardan" from fur, a lens and a digital SLR, for example, is very interesting. On this path, many problems need to be solved, but the more interesting the process of creation!

    • Kirill

Boris, thanks! I see that you are an understanding photographer, but whoever writes nasty things, you can see for yourself what they don’t know how to do and they didn’t see film photography. I especially don’t like it when the film starts, it's rubbish, but the number! I want to ask such people, but you personally shot the film on it, you yourself showed it, you printed it. And here Boris, this man immediately stops talking and that’s it! Especially who remembers bw and how much of it can be pulled, not only by the developers, but also by the same disguise. And they still condemn manual optics, although they almost never removed it. Yes, the same Vega 12b, in skillful hands creates masterpieces, according to the drawing, something similar to Helios. Generally! format optics, this is a different ethics and aesthetics of shooting, this is a different world.

      • Boris

Kirill! I have been doing photography professionally for forty years now, and “digital” for me is just today's stage in the profession. In the past, we had to exhaust hundreds, if not thousands of rolls of “roll film”, filming with “Kievs”, “Pentacons” ... The smell of solutions of hydrochonone and thiosulfate is still in the brain, and causes a slight euphoria, like the smell of ancient perfume. It is strange to demand from the modern generation of photographers a practical knowledge of the old process, but, of course, they should not gossip about film photography, in this you are absolutely right.

  • Polar 7

Kirill - thanks for the article, however!

  • Roman

    Very good.

Well, actually, the “pattern” on the F11 is not particularly noticeable, especially against a black background, but in the first frames it turned out very interesting. The main advantage of the medium-large format is the large circle of scatter and the ability to work with the gimbal. We should try something like that.

It rarely comes across work associated with any technical difficulties, especially lighting. Therefore, it is worth being thankful even for trying. Can you help? Really, help with the text, does it make sense to express your dissatisfaction in 20 posts in a row?

If someone is interested in the theory of subject photography and lighting (without focusing on macro) - I can recommend the site of Sergey Rodionov 8020photo.com It is rarely updated recently, but there are a lot of different lighting schemes there.

  • Andrei

On the lens itself a few words. I once read about him at Periscope. Somehow I was not impressed at all. But there, the author shot them the usual subjects, not macro. With sharpness is not very, side and back light does not hold.

  • Arkady Shapoval

Record update made. Thank you all grammar-natsi.

  • Alexey

Snails, bitches, nimble - as long as you aim, she will run away

  • Maria

Many thanks to the author for the article.

  • Vyacheslav

    The photos are super! :)

  • German

Thank you Kirill for the photos! And separately, for enthusiasm!

  • Novel

What kind of adapter is needed for nikon

    • B. R. P.

M42 is most likely in the ass. But maybe another m35. And you won’t get by with one adapter either, you need a helicoid or a macromech.

    • Rodion

      Set: M39-M42, M42-Nikon without lens, M42 macro rings or macrohelicoid 17-31/25-55 M42-M42.
