  • Dmitry S

Nikon's good crop optics is always announced with the top camera models. So it was with d200, d300, d500. Nikon will never do what Fuji did at one time. There is still hope for third-party optical manufacturers.

    • Dmitry S

Arkady has a summary article on all of the native DX lenses of mirror Nikon. There are results / conclusions. Read and think carefully about whether to contact their mirrorless crop system. After all, at least 15 years have passed since there is a mirror crop system. How many high-end fast-fixes were released? At the same time cheaper (and it is justified) their full-frame counterparts? Is there a portrait DX-fix with 55-58 mm FR? How many can afford to buy 16-80 / 2,8-4,0 or 17-55 / 2,8? Why is Kenon 17-55 / 2,8 worth almost 2 times cheaper and also has a stub? Does Nikon disclose communication protocols between the camera and the lens? So that the amateur photographer would normally focus with third-party lenses, Sigma Art, for example?

      • Victor

You should be honored, so no BZK crop should be taken at all. Except Fuji :)

        • Dmitry S

If you take the BZK exactly Nikon, then immediately FF. Then everything will fall into place.

      • Aydar

I have Sigma art 85 mm and 30 mm on the D500 camera, with insufficient light they focus very poorly and are suitable only for leisurely shooting. In the afternoon, everything is different, but 85 does a refocus for a long time in motion. Maybe I'm just used to 17-55mm 2.8, after it everything is slow. But it’s very strange that 30 mm during video shooting is faster and more smoothly refocused, but 17-55 “starts to breathe”. In general, Sigma is very pleased.

  • Air force

I’ll go to Avito, look for 5200 cheaper

  • Uncle Tolya

I like this ph on it the Nikon inscription on the flash is written with a slight bend, the color palette on the photos will be noticeably better

  • Arkady Shapoval

Nikon still positions the Z50 as the one in the lineup with the d7500.

    • Nicholas

Nikon didn’t find a niche “proDX” for the d500 :)

    • Igor

and where then z70, z30-it is clear, this is instead of the d3x00 series. I don’t know, I read other information-z50 from the d5x00 series.

    • Wladimir

      - the D7500 has a screwdriver - it's more like the D5500 at an overpriced price ...

      • Andrei

How to say. 11 frames per second, focusing from -4 ev, iso 51000, which means that 6400 will be quite decent, 12 picture control presets, 200+ focus sensors, almost full frame coverage in VI ... In general, not bad. The price is like 5500 new at the start .. so it's quite a replacement.

      • Michael

There are no screwdrivers here a priori and will not be. So it's not an indicator at all

      • Stas

I think there is no point in comparing it with three-digit ones. UPC - there is an UPC, there are more options than in the D5 ***, and it is compared with the D7500 in terms of the matrix, but it is not the same, it contains additional phase sensors. The absence of an additional informative screen is due to the thickness of the z50. And yet this camera gives a better picture than the D500 and D7500.

        • Pokemon

"And yet this camera gives a better picture than the D500 and D7500."
          How did you rate it?

  • Max

Another camera, late for 6 years.

    • Stas

But it came out much nicer than the notorious dormouse, both in design and in convenience, and even in such trifles as screen quality, ergonomics, grip. It is evident that a thing was done on the mistakes of others.

      • Pokemon

“It can be seen that a thing was done on the mistakes of others.
Only now nobody needs it, because normal lenses under the Zu50 have not been delivered so far.
Probably the expectation that they will use FF.
And yes, the "notorious Sony" a6300-a6400-a6500-a6600 came out in due time and turned out to be more popular, including for 4K recording.

  • Dmitriy

If the price drops slightly (to the prices of the 5 *** series), then in fact an advanced amateur will get high-speed synchronization, weather protection of the case, u1 and U2 modes on the drum, several programmable buttons on the case. The important thing is not how the company positions the camera, but at what price it will sell. D5200 at the start, also cost $ 1000.

  • Basil

Using a crutch, you will get a good digital face for Sigma 18-35 🤣

  • Ilya

I use z Nikon since D3000 and can be said to be a hostage only because the optics park has gathered. Well, I am gradually ripening to the fact that I probably need to switch to competitors. Although you look, you see that, for example, Canon has better stabilization and focus on the video and a rotary display is everywhere (important for me), but buying a camera + a more or less normal lens is equal to buying one camera even higher from Nikon - this is how you get such a swing, now I probably would not choose Nikon as the first camera - only top-end and expensive Nikon rules. They need their entire segment D3XXX, D5XXX and further revise and redo. Well, Nikon Z50 is a good crop camera at a price higher than the Body D610))) it's tough.

  • Sergei

To be honest, I don’t understand why Nikon made a crop for a new bayonet mount. In fact, if they inserted a matrix from at least D600 and even D700 into this camera, also without a stub, even without weather protection, the camera would not be much more expensive, but people would have more reasons to buy it. Nikon would not have to develop another meaningless line of optics and focus on FF.
On the one hand, the camera is purely amateurish, on the other hand, it has a second control dial, which hints at its suitability for enthusiasts, two function keys next to the mount should also be useful.
Those. if there were adequate lenses at the start, it would be possible to completely reject the purchase of the D7200 / D7500 for example. But lenses know what the prospects are, too.

After all, the crop has obvious problems with large noise at high iso and greater flu, relative to FF, of course. This is solved by newfangled matrices, stabilizer and high-aperture optics.
Given the situation with lenses on Nikon's mirror crop, here we have the same, if not worse. If the aperture reasonably sufficient for the FF can be considered aperture 1.4 for fixes, then a crop aperture of 1.2 or higher and a corresponding recalculation of focal lengths are needed.
In general, a camera came out that does not solve any problems and creates new ones. Again, people are forced to cling fifty dollars from the older system and put up with non-standard angles. This is not just a big problem, it’s just an old rake, and why do it again? I do not like to bring Fuji as a positive example, but the glasses they made were specially made for the crop with a more or less adequate aperture.
Nikon’s new crop, even with a 14-bit color and a better noise situation, doesn’t look very profitable even compared to Olympus / Panasonic with crop factor 2, where there are all the necessary glasses despite the price.
And the most annoying is that the company has all the resources and technologies to make the best crop system. I think the new crop is waiting to take into account the Nikon 1 system.

    • Arkady Shapoval

Released just in case. Canon / Sony / Fuji / Leica has an APS-C mirrorless, so Nikon should have it.

      • Sergei

Today I found out that there will be another Z30 and Z70 in the near future. One must think that the older camera will have a stabilizer on the matrix and all the gadgets of an advanced camera. But all this is good only if there are glasses, but there are no interesting glasses.
Just dragging it on with lenses, Nikon can worsen its position in the crop market. And I would like them to be fine.

    • Vitaly N

But does everyone need small depth of field and the ability to shoot at dusk? Moreover, new matrices are increasingly leveling the difference. Is the huge aperture just so vital? Portraits in one eye or landscapes with small DOF? What does everyone directly pray for FF? Someone needs just such a camera, with a smaller size and weight. And Nikon created a rake for himself, without releasing lenses under the crop. However, under the new bayonet mount, it has already been released and, if it is not stupid again, will do it again.

      • Sergei

For a common man in the street, FF is not needed. Those who do not need "small depth of field and the ability to shoot at dusk" can safely buy a high-quality soap dish with an inch, 4/3 or 1.5 crop matrix and be very satisfied.
As for me, DOF in 1 eye is too much, but everything is tasteful. Just for example, I want to shoot an astrophoto, the milky way there, nebulae, everything. It requires high ISO without much noise. On my Olympus, I can only shoot tracks (and there is a special mode for this and not only), but I can’t remove the milky way in all its glory, it turns out a gray picture dirty in color, half of the stars will be wiped off.
That's why I want FF. I would also use the FF BZK camera because I have many manual lenses that will only open on the FF, with focal lengths of 60, 75, 90 and 130 mm with aperture 2. With manual lenses on the BZK it is much more convenient to shoot than on the ZK.
These are all amateur tasks, so, for the soul, as they say.
While focusing on the Nikon Z6. But if the Z50 had some kind of not the latest matrix, but FF, without whistle-blowers, I would prefer such a camera. Although I would not call the stabilizer completely whistle-blowing, on Olympus I fully felt its capabilities, including and with manual glasses.
Before Olympus, I had a Nikon D7000 and then I just wanted my native aperture widths, portraits such as 10, 16, 58-75mm. 58 of course appeared but it stands like a cast-iron bridge compared to 50 1.4. Olympus top glass is also very expensive, but 45 1.2 they are cheaper than 58 1.4 From Nikon. In general, the choice of a system today is very complicated, there are so many subtleties, I don’t feel like returning to the old mirror systems, but the new ones are also not too attractive due to the poverty of the optics parks. I have not decided where to go next, and whether I need to go at all, so long as I monitor what comes out.

        • Vitaly N

Indeed, Nikon lacks something like 58 mm, but the crop and, accordingly, cheaper. They would have made the protocols open, third-party manufacturers would probably have helped, since the dog is in the manger. They don’t do it themselves, nor do they allow others to do normal. Now with the focus of the problem, then with something else.
There is a soap box, even with a diaphragm 1.4 at the wide end. But this is not at all compared to a DSLR. Starting with ergonomics, ending with efficiency.

          • Sergei

Exactly. And about the soap dishes. When I just tried the mikra to taste, I took a Panasonic GF5 with a whale, all together it cost 10 kilo rubles from the store, the camera will tell you so-so frankly, but that's not the point. Then the colleague had a Panasonic LX soap box something there, Japanese with an inch or even smaller matrix with built-in zoom with high aperture at the wide end. So we compared these two cameras with him and it was the same with whale lenses. I think today you can also find a good soap dish with a large matrix, not more expensive or not much more expensive than the system one. Also with shooting in raw and pasm modes. For travel photos, just what you need is for me, well, for unpretentious lovers. By the way, at that Panasonic gf5 I remember the good color rendering of human faces. Olympus would put in second place, Nikona in third. Although later I caught up that in the developer you can pull on the Nikon ravs the color profile from other cameras, from Canon, the same Olympus and dance from that already. There is an opinion on the Internet that Olympus has very good color separation due to more dense color filters in front of the matrix. But this question requires a more serious study, which I did not find.

      • copenhagen72

The ability to shoot at dusk also means indoor filming. Without this, the camera is somehow defective. For example, Sony A7M3 + 2.8 lens (170 thousand in total) gives excellent photos of the night city, you can admire. ISO 6400 is generally working, 12800 tolerable - hence the normal exposure for handheld shooting. An amateur whale camera for 45 thousand produces in such conditions only noisy soap, ISO 6400 does not pull, consider, it can not take pictures at all.

  • valid

The camera came. Impressions Pts positive nimble and light. There are glass sigma 17-50 2.8, tokina 11-20 2.8 and fix nikkor DX 35 1.8. Everything is very suitable for a photo. Known sigma chips left the screen does not go blank in standby mode. But the camera has a separate viewfinder and screen setting. So if the screen is always off. That viewfinder goes off normally. Everything is fine with the photo. I tested ok for two days. With the video, the news is bad. These lenses are slow and old. They make a terrible noise. Almost rumble. And the focus on the eyes does not work. Only with new Z lenses so I put 35 on a shelf and bought a nikkor z 35 1.8S which still became 800 euros. HDMI 8 bit is just like in the d7500 there is no crop in 4k. Picking is.

  • valid

So if someone thinks to shoot the video with autofocus, as I thought with Park F optics, then alas. Need z lenses. And for the photo, everything works fine with the adapter, there is no discomfort at all. Personally, I needed a lightweight camera with autofocus for shooting on the stabilizer. So I thought nikkor DX 35 yes sigma there is also a stub. But alas, I had to take a new lens. For a photo to me as an amateur everything is super. For video crop camera and full-frame lenses to it. Well, I don’t even know what to say.

    • Aydar

Now, it seems, the camera should not be or / or everyone is already expecting video and photos from the camera. At the start of sales, he took the D500, with the video it was so-so, but after a year z6 came out at the same price, it felt like they threw it) released the D500 and D850 SLRs with all the available technologies, which they expected to gradually introduce for 10 years, but Sony pushed Nikon not to detain under the counter of technology. Now, if I knew, I would probably wait and buy a z6, but the D500 is generally satisfied. I would not be surprised if the Nikon Z firmware has the option of creating a lag when working with F lenses and forcing people to buy lenses.

      • valid

Z lenses are really cool .. it's not fiction plastic and rubber. They are completely metal. At least the one that I have is 35 1.8S very cool. Really premium executed. Nikon thinks doing it right. It's just that it will be difficult for third-party Pts manufacturers to compete with the z series. Unless of course someone starts to produce Z lenses.

  • valid

Add USB charging no. Akum, although small, but charges 2.5 hours ..

    • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

She has USB charging and works fine. This is an obvious plus. The camera itself is quite interesting and convenient, even unexpectedly for the BZK. What pleased me was that it’s a very working ISO up to 12800. I took a kit with two 16-50 and 50-250 lenses and an FTZ adapter, no complaints, the Z whale lenses are very good, the D18 kit 140-7200 also works well. Intra-chamber JPEG is quite tolerable. Considering the price of $ 1247 for the entire kit on Adorama with a 64Gb card, filters, a bag and an enema for purging, the price is quite reasonable, as it seems to me for an APS-C camera. EVF has its advantages, the same picking is visible much better, plus there is the possibility to increase the space with the focus point and more accurately focus on sharpness. Of course, I prefer the optical viewfinder, but in some situations EVF is more convenient. Definitely, the camera is worth considering as a replacement for the DX DSLR, for example, the same D7200, in which the frame shifts noticeably when the mirror pops (unlike the D90, say), however, its weight with the lens is not very small , and the lenses themselves are unexpectedly large and heavy.

      • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

What I don't like about all UPCs is that their matrix is always open when changing lenses. There is no problem to collect dust and this is sad. We have SONY NEX-5N, NEX-6, now NIKON Z50 has appeared, everywhere it is the same - the matrix is open, unlike DSLRs, where it is closed by a shutter. In the conditions of our dust in Tashkent, this is a rather big problem, we constantly have to blow through the matrices, but it does not always help, cotton swabs help out ... Bad ...

        • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

I also note that there are no DX optics for the Z50, only two whale lenses 16-50 and 50-250, the rest are all FX, so the price is very inadequate. But the FTZ adapter allows you to use F-mount DX lenses, which greatly expands the capabilities of the system. Let go of quarantine, take off all that is)

    • Stas

There is YUSB charging, you need a proprietary cable.

  • valid

Another such moment. I have a blackmagic video assist recorder. So the resulting footage for HDMI from the Nikon Z50 camera in 10-bit metadata 4.2.2. Although this is generally not announced anywhere. And there is no switching like in the cameras z6, z7. Apparently, the manufacturer did not fool and put the same module as in the older cameras, but removed the switch, etc. This is such an interesting camera.

    • Tim

As the owner of the Z50, but not yet the owner of an external recorder, I want to clarify: there actually come out 4: 2: 2 and 10 bits, or it may be an option that they are only indicated in the metadata? It's just that, besides your comment, I could not find any information on the Internet on the topic of what this camera gives to the recorder

  • valid

And this screen is on the internal SD. It was written in 4K with a decrease to the recorder Since the recorder writes a maximum of 1080p60 and he writes without reducing it to 30 frames

Hello. I am terribly sorry for my amateurishness, but can you attach Helios-type lenses to this camera?

    • Arkady Shapoval

Yes, you can install any lenses on it. Tell us the specific model of Helios and you will be prompted for the required adapter.

  • Oleksandr

    Now I am faced with a choice, what to take? D610 or Z50 + FTZ? glass 35g, 50g, 17-50 2.8
Hybrid focusing is very attractive, focus on the eyes - just a bold argument towards the z50 for shooting portraits. I'm just tired of focusing on 1 point and re-framing, and in post-processing, from questions to myself about what kind of blunders there are on the open ..

    • Oleksandr

I bought it and I'm not happy! Through the adapter all lenses are exactly in the eye! The mirror lies, even in the hands of the brother reluctance!

  • Andrei

I read the comments about the camera. There are many experts here. I bought myself this fart)). The quality of the photos exceeded all my expectations!! And the video quality is not far behind. Z-Log is. I'm not afraid of dark lenses, or rather, I don't like primes because of their contrast. I'm used to working on television. And the whale 16-55 did not become a problem for me at all. Knowing the nuances of such lenses, you already build scenes for it. To each his own. I have long understood that there are two camps of photographers - 1 fixies and 2 for those who do not care. It so happened that I don’t do portraiture, it’s more of a subject, and there, as a rule, the aperture is clamped strongly and there is no washout in 1.2 or 1.8. IMHO. All the fixes that I had (35mm, 85mm) were sold due to uselessness. Left only 50mm D for the FF carcass. And my favorite lens is 24-85, it is with me always and everywhere, but here's the problem ... now I use the Z50 more often ... I thought about looking towards the z6 or z7, but so far I have not found good arguments for buying. The cameras that I used: z50, D5300, B7200, D750, D610 (personal) and temporarily came across kenons and sony. As a result, the D610 and Z50 remained. As for me, these are the coolest photos obtained.

  • Eugen

Nikon, as always, does not make optics available. Well, it just doesn’t fit in my head to take a lens for $ 1000. when the carcass itself is well $ 900.
And then suddenly there are 50-16 and 50-50 native lenses on the z250, it would seem that what else is needed.
Viltrox, it was they who mastered and made available: Viltrox Nikon Z-Mount 56mm 1.4, and how wide Viltrox AF 13mm F1.4 Nikon Z. Prices are 13000 and 17000 UAH. Cheap but angry. And one can only dream of quality. So I don't even bother about the adapter for this ztf camera.
