Comments: 21, on the topic: Announcement: Nikon Nikkor Z DX 16-50 1: 3.5-6.3 VR

  • Maksim

In the kit, it will be half the price. The mass pleases, but the shift towards a wide angle is a negative point for me. Where it would be better to do 20-60 3.5-5.6
I would like to believe that 6.3 is associated only with a small diameter, and not a small increase in multiplicity. In theory, Z DX should be better than AF-P 18-55. This is a very interesting point, which can push on the Z50. I like to shoot at 35 DX, but AF-P in the center loses a little. For Z DX they generally want three times as much, he must be better.

    • Arkady Shapoval

In general, a wide-angle shift is more beneficial for more users. Nobody will feel the difference between 50-55, but the wider the better. Sonu and others went there for whales under EGF 24mm.

    • Cruel Kronos

The onset of mobile phone cameras requires this. The standard angle of the mobile phone is now about 24mm (35 equivalent). It's strange to give a ton of money and not get what your mobile phone can do. Therefore, it is necessary to comply.

      • Victor

16mm wide-angle happened long before the "mobile phone camera" came.

It is enough to recall 16-85 from Nikan, 15-85 from Canon, similar lenses from Sony, Pentax, Tokins, etc., etc.

It's just that 16mm is quite useful for shooting with SHU, when there is "nowhere to go", but 60 instead of 50 is rather stupid, well, if it is the body, together with a wide angle, that is needed, for this case in the future they will release a superzoom something like 18-140 (not I remember exactly)

        • Arkady Shapoval

16-85 is 15-85 another class of optics, these are not whale lenses for initial cameras, but more expensive and more advanced optics, therefore it is not entirely appropriate to mention it here.
But it’s precisely cheap, small and compact whales, such as the Sony 16-50, that can be set as an example for this 16-50 DX

          • Victor

It's about the fact that the manufacturers of mirror crop lenses have long taken up 24mm ether, long before the manufacturers of mobile phone cameras began to practice this.

We still didn’t remember Sony and Pentax.

    • Alexey

It is really better than the AF-S / AF-P versions, I would say it is inferior only to the 16-80 2.8-4E in terms of aperture, in terms of sharpness and color it is at least not worse.

  • Maksim

If the AF-P is closed at 35mm to 5.6, then in the center of the frame it turns out to be close to the 35mm DX fix, I tried it many times with two fixes and with two cameras. I also carefully compared it with VRII - the new one falls less strongly towards the corners, which is clearly visible. In addition, the new microcontrast is better, but the difference has no practical significance - it can only be seen in a pixel-by-pixel comparison. The difference is 55 mm larger. AF-P is generally very pleasing, you just need to cover it by at least 2/3 of a stop. In the lens, I am primarily interested in the resolution over the entire field, and the aperture is needed for conditions when sharpness is still impossible to achieve.

  • Victor

On the preview there are test full-size images, in my opinion everything is very good there, as for "plastic whale" glass.

  • Artem

We did a big button accordion to make 6,3 at the long end. Nikon is a little tutu)))) Even darker, even harder)))))

    • Alexey_S

I do not agree. Yes, and the Z-mount here came in handy. It, at least in theory, allows you to make widths (and not only) of smaller sizes.

The glass turned out to be very compact, and obviously this was clearly the main goal, and not to fill the aperture.
In my opinion, Nikon just got a balanced crop announcement (small camera and compact lens). IMHO, I just don’t understand Canon’s approach: to release amateur and slightly controversial UPC cameras with luxury (expensive, image, heavy) lenses.
I think the story here is the same as with Nikon's Noct: you need to show the "power" of the new mount, and it doesn't matter if they buy a lot of such lenses now or not.

      • Arkady Shapoval

Canon produces professional lenses, which are a logical continuation of mirror L-lenses, such as 50 1.2, 85 1.2, these are the lenses that pros work and get a stable result. Nikon got lenses with 1.8, which do not continue the professional line of SLR 1.4, as well as this 58 / 0,95 which is not a practical tool.

        • Roman

This is all like convulsive attempts to find niches in a collapsing market. On the one hand, do not keep up with trends, on the other hand, do not go into direct competition. And it turns out sad and incomprehensible.

      • Roman

What was the point of releasing 50 / 1.0 almost immediately after the announcement of the EF mount? And a number of lenses that have just recently left the stage, but are still in use. Thirty years almost glass. And so, Canon’s new lenses will still be in use, if not thirty, even ten years later.

  • Anatoly SNEZHAN, Gomel

It has long been time for all the remaining technical monsters of the world, including video, film and photo producers, to merge and so together, in the community, SURVIVAL.
Let me give you a child's example. Already today, for example, Sonya, Canon, Nikon, they can still strain themselves and give out two or three miracle cameras with a set of masterpiece optics by the end of 2022, but ... but these marvelous creations will be thrown into disarray, bankrupt, and ENDURE the creators because they will not find demand, they will not find a mass buyer - the new technology developed and put on the conveyor will not be affordable even for professional photographers of the capital's glossy magazines.
Tell me, good people, which one of you needs at home or at work (who works with cameras and optics) two or three hundred only digital cameras and a dozen lenses for them? But for every photographer in the world, including amateur photographers in China and India, annually produced all the photographic equipment for hundreds of thousands of dollars. I do not believe that even 30% of new products are on sale!
Cameras, as well as lenses, must be produced in the right quantity - and most importantly, they should be the best in their class and affordable. Don't overproduce crap! Do it slower but better. And this was done (not for a year or two, but for tens of years!) I agree, even if it costs an order of magnitude more.

    • B. R. P.

For a long time you were gone, Anatoly)

  • Alexey

Hello, tell me there is a thread for the hood? And most importantly, can the lens be in a permanently unfolded state? Or does it fold when the camera falls asleep? I noticed that on hikes it is wildly uncomfortable when you need to make a beautiful frame quickly, wait for the lens to come out (Sony 16-50)

    • Michael

There is no thread for a hood) There are hoods that are screwed into the thread for a light filter.

  • Alex

But tell me where to get such data as lines per mm or pixels per mm for modern lenses?
And then everyone says here is a sharp lens, look at the photo, but how can you physically evaluate it?

    • Arkady Shapoval

in general - nowhere, look at MTF charts, look at RAW / JPEG source frames, rent and evaluate yourself. Perhaps your criteria will differ from the criteria for evaluating others and your camera will have a different AA filter that eats up half the sharpness of the lens.

    • Viktre

Ideally, take a specific copy of the lens that you are going to buy and evaluate it according to your own criteria.

The number of lines / mm in the final photo will still not appear in the form of a watermark))
