  • Titanic

Is 12-bit raw in real shots inferior to 14-bit?

    • anonym

      Of course not!
      Even cooler!
But 10 bits are even better

      • Outcast

A good opus about family photography is probably only interesting at home.
I liked the approach to ff from olik)))
What is the truth? Do you think after minimizing the line to 4/3 they will release an alternative to the micro?))) With a new line of optics for a full frame developed from 0?
Look at the financial indicators for the last 10 years, share and so on.
I am silent about the cost and applicability of the top ones, for example 35-100 to 2.0. The last copy on one of the sites was on sale for more than 2 years !!! on a note and was sold for 800ue from the exposed one and a half.)))
The office died, as Ostap Ibrahimovich said. Iron also died. You know the diffraction threshold and all that ... I shot on it at one time. But I will say those blasphemy - Elka on 4.0 with fluorite for 630 already at the time of 08 in b & h # fucked him in one gate so much that there were no more questions at all.
Here, as it were, the problem lies elsewhere. The dying office is in agony. Panas, he is a cunning fellow, he cut everything very quickly. Alliance is sailing. Olympus will share the fate of their predecessors who were innumerable. It's a pity….

    • Arkady Shapoval

If you dig a lot, then of course yes. If you do not bother, then, of course, it is difficult to find the difference by eye. But, as in any business, there are pitfalls. Typically, 14-bit matrices are designed with obviously wide dd and color indicators. Indirectly, you can spot the X1D-50C with 16-bits. The presence of 14bit is an indirect confirmation of a better sensor + gives not obvious advantages. For example, if the processors were designed for 14-bit, then on 12-bit, I am sure that they would not already squeeze out 60 frames per second, but all 100, which would be a nice innovation. Also, sooner or later they will have to switch to 14-bit, and then it turns out that they have no operating time with processors for 14 bits in the segment and there will be a certain lag behind competitors.
To summarize, I’m unlikely to see the difference between 12 and 14 bits on the same camera, but development to 14-bit gives an overall improvement in the picture as a whole is useful for the system. Therefore, I would not defend Olympus in terms of using a 12-bit RAW. Nikon and Canon switched to 14 bits in 2007 (D300 / 40D). More than 10 years of development of matrices under 14 bits were not in vain.

    • Dmitriy

On the corresponding monitor, the difference is immediately noticeable to the eye ....

  • Titanic

By the way, Arkady, I would like to hear your opinion about the quality of the picture from this camera.

It seems, according to samples, with an eye on the shooting conditions, at the level of XT-3 / d500.

    • Arkady Shapoval

That's the thing, the camera was announced yesterday, no one among ordinary users held it in their hands. Before the announcement, cameras are handed out to a narrow circle of people for running-in, and also part of them are handed out to ambassadors - those people who popularize the brand, model, raise the general interest in the camera. Usually, ambassadors physically cannot say something bad about her, and, as a result, be objective. Therefore, almost always, during the release of a camera, we see wonderful songs about a super new, super cool, best camera. The same Chris Eyre-Walker who is already washed down watch video about E-M1X shoots on Oliki. This is normal and there is no getting around it. Another thing is to look at the heavy domestic photo tasks, without beautiful landscapes and other things. After about 2 years, the photo community will give an accurate assessment of the quality of the E-M1X, but for now this is another new and wonderful camera

  • anonym

    Krop2 the size of ff.
    Mmdya

    • Titanic

Is it a mystery? Then I know it's a big format.

Large format -> medium format -> small format (ff).

      • Titanic

Those. small format is crop2 in relation to large format, confused%)

In general, raw is quite suitable for samples, and the default jpeg is very puppet / watercolor.

        • Michael

small format is crop2 from SF)

      • anonym

this is a statement of fact ..
camera with crop 2, the size of a full frame ...
        meaning - zero

    • Paul

      Exactly!
And then I just want to add the words of Arkady:
"Marty, it seems like 2019 is outside the window?"

    • Andrei

      Are you normal?
,, Crop2 the size of ff. ,, - generally they sprinkle matrices, not carcasses. And if you don't like the physical size of the carcass, if you please express it humanly, "umach".
This is a reporting camera, albeit cropped (crop in this case is not a hindrance to it) the carcass dimensions are correct for their class.
PS If you are so primitive, keep your mouth shut.

      • anonym

        I - yes,
        you are not.

        • Andrei

          Haha sure
          Anonymous, you're all bold here.
You better shut up, couch expert😂😂😂

  • Sergei

Yes it’s some kind of smoker's crop

  • Sergey70

By functions, this camera is just some kind of madness. It remains only to add a full frame. Just because I want to.

    • Arkady Shapoval

What seemed craziest in this camera?

      • Jury

        $ 3k carcass price

      • Titanic

        Thermometer

      • anonym

And the range iso 200-6400, it is clear that there is a software extension, but damn it, in the yard 2019

      • anonym

the craziest thing I've ever seen is the ALARM !! in a premium film camera from the 90s.

  • Igor

Nda. On the one hand, the camera aims at prof. segment. But 12 bits of RAW and ISO 200-6400 land.

  • Rudakov

I waited 4k 60r for some kind of Olympus log mod but no, go forest videographers from Olympus, mess with Panas

    • Arkady Shapoval

      still, unfortunately, video without 10-bit

  • Vladimir

The 4/3 system is small and light, they said. :)))
When their cameras in weight and dimensions caught up with the Nikon / Canon mirror crop, it was funny. But when this one with the mouse-eye matrix catches up with FF ...

  • Artem

Olympus went crazy :) They created some kind of reporting monster. The goal is clear, bite off a bit of the photo story market. So to speak, a model for professional reporters. It was necessary to call the E-M1XL :)

    • Igor

Rather, it is a model for those who imagine themselves to be a reporter. So purely indulge.

    • A.N. Onim

Next year the Olympics, let's see how many photographers will shoot for this double-crop. Wang, that zero point figs.

  • Vitaliy U

Yes ... Olik got excited about the case ... What's the point of cutting off some of the buyers with the dimensions of a “brick”? Wasn't it easier to add a bat.block as an accessory? I don’t want to talk about the “trim” 4/3 in such a body))) Storms them: either retro design, or zakos under Nikon / Canon professional cameras)))

  • Paul

I love Olympus very much, but I don’t understand who this new model is aimed at.

I have OM-D E-M1 I. The cap is quite comfortable, but I did not use it - it greatly increases the size. The first brand, in comparison with the second, lacks only a duplicate slot for memory cards. Objectively, this is the only limitation that prevents the camera from being the main tool in critical filming. And there is also focus stacking inside the camera, and in general, everything is more or less the same.

Total: the first brand can be bought for a new one for less than 1K, the second - for less than 2K, and this model is offered for 3K. What is the point?

  • Alex fg.

ISO 200-6400, ahaha, my d5100 was able to do this a hundred years ago

    • Titanic

D5100 takes off starting with iso 100. And the upper bar is really 6400 (although there are some non-usable iso 200 there). And he is far from a reporting apparatus, although with a very high-quality picture.

      • Titanic

        Typo “non-usable iso 200” -> “non-usable software HI iso”.

6400, by the way, in my shooting experience and the tests of this Oly for cameras are comparable (in raw). But oly clicks them much faster, and speed, from the point of view of all physicists, never benefits quality.

  • lech

It's rather weak for the pros, a little expensive for the kettle. Well-fed PR people are unlikely to save the situation. We'll see ...

  • Outcast

In fact, as noted earlier. The agony of Olympus. Very sorry. Everything that has been done since the release of OEMs worked to reduce market share. Konika at one time just left without pulling af. Having lost in the field 4/3, having given Panas a palm tree with vidyuhi on ji ash, they buried themselves in their photographs cut at times. This is a one way ticket. Ambassadors are good, the end user is completely different. Persistently continuing in this direction, they will dissolve in the market, are already dissolving. Well, to each his own.

  • Novel

Well, the native stabilization somehow compensates for the ISO6400. Moreover, such a small matrix does not allow it to be raised significantly.

Strange camera. But it is quite possible that someone will need it.

  • anonym

It is interesting to look at his shots at ISO 6400, and then ask with whom will he compete then?

    • anonym

      As with Kenon 1100d

  • Dodik

It’s convenient to throw like frisbee. Especially with pancake, aerodynamics at the level. I predict popularity on the beaches

  • anonym

crop 2,0 and 20,0 megapixels ... I can imagine what the diffraction limitation of the aperture will be :-)))))) somewhere in the region of 4 or 5,6 ...

  • lech

The camera is positioned as a reporting one. Dust and moisture protected and shockproof, plus, as noted in the review, very, very rapid. To watch pictures on a computer, a large matrix is not needed. Maybe someone will buy, given the rate of fire.

  • anonym

Well, they smoked something on Olympus :)

    • lech

They don’t smoke there. According to rumors, they eat some algae, then stick out.

  • scif

4/3 Live MOS sensor with physical dimensions of 17.4 mm X 13.0 mm and crop factor Kf = 2.0 ????????????????? why such a stripped-down matrix in such a huge case. at least a crop of 1,5 or 1,3 would shorten

    • Novel

Probably because the entire set of lenses is designed for such a sensor? But the shutter and mirror themselves also occupy some space, as does the motherboard with processors and memory, plus batteries. I looked at the reviews, this case is clearly smaller than the Canon units or my 5D2-7D2 with battery packs. Not twice, but less.

Something is too much negative, as if you are being forced to buy it. Well, there is a system with a rather long history, there is an optics park for it. Well, the Olympians decided to make a reportage, well, ok. Whoever needs it will buy it, whoever doesn’t need it will take something smaller.

    • US6IBD

Probably the rest is electronics on radio tubes.

    • US6IBD

Probably the rest is electronics on radio tubes.

  • scif

complete bullshit. crop 2, not even 1,5 or 1,3 ... not a single information screen (I have two of them on nikon D5) there are few buttons and a clumsy arrangement. and 12 bit rav in 2019….

  • zengarden

As far as I understand, this is a highly specialized reporting camera.
There is no need to compare it according to the criteria of "matrix size", "picture quality", etc.
I think it’s quite even for its tasks. Well, of course, only real tests will show.

  • Andrei Other

Already appeared on sale in Russia. 200 rub.
The owners of the first fights are crushed, they then thought that the size of the matrix is everything.

    • B. R. P.

Crushed into a cake, smartphone owners are rejoicing.

  • Dmitriy

Finally, the trend of small boxes with large lenses has changed. Fans of 4/3, I think, will buy as a more professional tool and in order not to keep 2 systems for different purposes. Separately, it is worth noting the all-weather performance of the camera, optics and flashes with triggers. And the price for everyone at the start is high.
