Tokina AF Aspherical 28-105 1: 3.5-4.5 (JAPAN C / EF)

This Tokina AF Aspherical 28-105 1: 3.5-4.5 lens is quite rare, and I found very little information before writing a review on it. There were no photographs at all. So I bought it blindly.

Focus type - internal. The front lens does not move forward or backward when focusing. The focus ring, when choosing auto focus, cannot be twisted, it is locked, and autofocus turns it. The ring spins manually only when the manual mode is on. It is possible to focus manually on this lens, but it is similar to focusing on the Canon Kit 18-55. The ring is plastic, and its stroke is very short. When rotating it, you don't get pleasure, as when working with manual optics. The autofocus itself is tenacious, it focuses even on moving objects quickly. The focus motor sound is quite noisy.

ATTENTION! On versions for Nikon and Sony, the lens does not have a built-in focus motor. Autofocus will only be on cameras with a built-in focus motor. The built-in focus motor is only available on the Canon version.

As the focal length increases, the rear lens moves forward, which can lead to dust accumulation in the camera. The lens behaves completely like a native, everything works: sound confirmation of focus, changing the aperture through the menu and automatic metering exposure.

Tokina AF Aspherical 28-105 1: 3.5-4.5 is made of metal, and weighs 512 grams. In the hands it is felt integrally. The lens is only suitable for full-frame cameras. Focal length in terms of crop: 44.8-168. The wide angle is completely lost.

The lens does not tolerate backlight. Perhaps the situation will be corrected by a hood to protect against side light or a light filter with protection against ultraviolet rays and multi-coating on both sides. Fortunately, the size of the seating thread is not large - 62 mm, and such a filter will not be very expensive.

In the darkness, the lens refuses to focus. The reason is small aperture - this is a minus of Tokina AF Aspherical 28-105 1: 3.5-4.5, however, as well as all budget non-fast zooms.

On an open aperture, sharpness is poor, but when you close the aperture, the situation does not change dramatically. Sharpness appears, but not in full.

Tokina AF Aspherical 28-105 1: 3.5-4.5 draws softly and the word sharpness is not about this lens. The lens is a little about something else. He paints beautifully and the 28 mm bokeh is amazing. A kind of drawing will definitely appeal to lovers of not boring glasses. Tokina AF Aspherical 28-105 1: 3.5-4.5 with character, and requires straight arms.

The assembly is Japanese, there are no backlashes, and the trunk does not fold under its weight when moving the camera with the lens up. Lens prices in the region of 2-5 thousand.

The alternative at this price point is the Canon 22-55 f / 4-5.6. A lens that has also come down to us from the era of film cameras, but completely plastic and devoid of tele-range. On the contrary, the Tokina 28-105 is made of metal and the metal mount is respectable.

Conclusions

For such a small budget, buying a lens with autofocus for a full frame is not so easy. He fully justifies his money. You can take pictures of friends, relatives, events. For commercial photography, I would not recommend it, it does not reach modern lenses, but for promotion, it will go for a modest fee.

It's a very sad picture. Or photos don't reveal the good sides of the lens ...

    • Carl Zeiss

Take off better, we will appreciate.
In fact, on the contrary, I am grateful to him for giving real pictures from this glass. Because it can be beautifully filmed. And then choose and place the best pictures here. But then the future owners of this glass, inspired by all this to purchase it, would have many unpleasant questions under the review. And who needs it? But no one! Therefore, let it be better to be realistic shots under the review of each of the lenses than “beautifully shot”. Moreover, for the latter, Flickr has been contributing for a long time.

The construct is directly the same as Nikkor 28-105. But Nikkor was cut, but I liked the bokekha on the token more)

    • Aries

constructive copy of HOYA MF 28-105 release 1978 ………… ..

  • Good M

    2-5 thousand what? Forints?)

    • Carl Zeiss

Was Google banned? There, all current prices are recognized in two or three clicks.

      • Guest

But Google brought me here ...

        • Knyazev Andrey

Because they cannot be found with fire during the day. Sooooo rare zoom

  • EVGEN

I don’t know what kind of alternative for canon, but for Nikon it’s better to take good 28-70 (5tr), 28-85 (5tr), 28-105 (6-8tr) for modest money :)

    • Dmitriy

So for Canon there are good 24-85 / 3.5-4.5 and 28-105 / 3.5-4.5. And also very inexpensive.

  • Max

My phone shoots somewhere in the same quality

  • Aries

In the darkness, the lens refuses to focus. - I have an initial aperture on the d200 d3 d80 of the 35-300 token at the long end 6,3 and everything works fine a / f .. this apparently depends on the design of the devices and not the optics ..

  • Alexey de Paris

Thanks for the review! and upload more photos. I am sure that this lens will take a portrait well. He has a suitable picture and a set of focal ones. The alternative to Kenon for this Tokina is the native Canon USM 28-105 mm f3,5-4,5 (the captain does not slumber).

    • Andrey Knyazev

Thank you, I haven’t shot portraits yet, I think it’ll really work out fine) And I took my copy for 2000 rubles. Canon USM 28-105 mm f3,5-4,5, costs 4-5 times more expensive. Saw even for 13000 sold ideally. And so on average 10 rubles are asked for him. As if where 000 and where 10))

      • Alexey de Paris

Yes, you're right. Kenon is usually more expensive. But on the secondary prices are very different. I bought in a fully working but shabby condition for about 2500 rubles. But autofocus on USM is almost the same as on L-kah. But Tokina is also good from what she saw. I like to shoot on a rare lens. Sometimes very entertaining models come across.

  • Artem

There was a dissonance, on a full frame and deshovy lens. 28 for the wagon is still a little narrow.

  • Novel

Nikonovsky 28-100; sharper, cheaper, faster and not afraid of backlight (just plastic).

    • kutuluhu

I'm wildly sorry, but the article is about a lens for kenon. What does Nikon have to do with it?

      • Michael

Well, he was not only made for the Boot

      • Novel

I had the same for Nikon and 28-100. And on kenon 28-105 3.5-4.5 it is much better, but the truth is a little more expensive.
