In short

Godox Thinklite TT350c - Inexpensive external flash with support for E-TTL II and high speed sync in a small compact case. One of the main functions is built-in radio synchronizerwhich allows the Godox TT350c to control other flashes or to be a remote-controlled remote flash.

Such a small and light flash is very suitable for mirrorless cameras, but on entry-level SLR cameras, which are usually quite light, the TT350c will be a good solution for a comfortable weight balance.

Assembly

Godox Thinklite TT350c came to me on a review completely new with protective films on easily soiled places. Package Includes:

  1. Flash Godox Thinklite TT350c
  2. diffuser cap (diffuser)
  3. detailed instructions for flash in Chinese and English in the form of a small vertical booklet
  4. carrying case for storing and transporting the flash. The wardrobe trunk is closed with Velcro. Simple wardrobe trunk
  5. a mini-stand for flash, which is located in a special compartment coffer. The stand has a bottom standard tripod metal socket
  6. warranty card. Flash warranty - 12 months
  7. desiccant bag
  8. QCPASS Quality Pass
  9. shipping bags and clamps

Externally, the Godox Thinklite TT350c is small and nice looking. In the hands of the flash is also felt very nice, it is made of high quality plastic. Temporal decorative inserts are also plastic, resembling rubber seals on the original flashes.

The flash head does not have a temporal button to lock its position. The flash head rotates horizontally 270 degrees (180 right and 90 left), 90 degrees up and 7 degrees down (total 97 degrees vertical) In the horizontal position, the rotation of the head occurs with poorly expressed clicks. For horizontal rotation there are marks for 150, 120 and 90, 75, 60, 30 degrees. In the vertical position, the rotation of the head occurs with clearly audible clicks; there are marks for 30, 45, 60 and 75 degrees.

The battery cover does not feel secure enough to the touch. The batteries are easy to install, there are two labels with poles '+' and '-' for correct orientation.

Under the battery cover is a Micro-USB port for updating the firmware.

Take out the built-in white card reflector and diffuser very very difficult. The protrusion for which you should pry and pull out the card is very small and uncomfortable. I see this problem with other Godox flashes.

When you change the focal length, the flash emits characteristic noise from electric drive.

To fix the flash, use clamping disc instead of the lever. This reduces the speed and ease of installing / removing the flash on the camera or stand, and can also cause the flash to jam in the hot shoe. Near the disk there is a drawn arrow with the inscription 'LOCK' (tighten). If the disk is jammed, then using this arrow you can easily navigate in which direction the disk should be rotated to remove the flash.

Modes of operation

  • ETTL - automatic operation
  • M - mode with manual power setting
  • Multi - mode

ETTL Mode

The mode is selected with the 'Mode' button.

In this mode, the flash fires automatically using the Canon E-TTL II.

Godox Thinklite TT350c displays the set aperture value and focal length value. The display shows TTL M xmm ZOOM (automatic mode with manual zoom) or TTL AUmm ZOOM (automatic mode with automatic zoom).

  • It is possible to carry out a power adjustment of + -3 EV in 1/3 steps. In the instruction, this function is called FEC (Flash Eexposure Companation)
  • You can use high-speed HSS synchronization (the display shows H with lightning). To activate, press the SYNC button
  • you can enable synchronization on the second curtain, to activate, press the SYNC button twice

M mode

The mode is selected with the 'Mode' button.

In this mode, you can manually select the desired flash output. Power can be set from level 1/1 to level 1/128 for each of which you can perform fine tuning + -0.3 or + -0.7 EV

Also, in this mode, you can enable high-speed synchronization H, as well as second-curtain synchronization (to activate, press the SYNC button).

In this mode, the flash can also work on other cameras that have a central sync contact to trigger the flash. True, high-speed synchronization will not work on cameras of other systems.

Multi mode

The mode is selected with the 'Mode' button.

In this mode, you can set a multiple flash (strobe mode). You can select the power of each individual pulse from the set: 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, 1/128.

For a minimum power of 1/128, you can select a maximum of 20 pulses at a frequency of 90 hertz, or 90 pulses at a frequency of 1-7 hertz with smooth balancing between the frequency and the number of flashes. For a maximum power of 1/4, you can select up to 7 pulses at a frequency of 1 hertz or 2 pulses at a frequency of 2 to 90 hertz. Various combinations are possible depending on the number of pulses and / or frequency.

What can this mode be used for? I have described here.

Godox Thinklite TT350c

Godox Thinklite TT350c

S1 and S2 modes

These modes can only be enabled while in mode M. They are activated by the 'Slave' button.

With S1 mode Godox Thinklite TT350c can be ignited by the first light pulse from the master flash. This is a very simple and effective light trap mode.

In S2 mode the flash is set on fire for every second pulse of the leading flash, but it is not an analogue of PRE-flash Cancel Mode S2 for Yongnuo flashes. But still, this is a very convenient mode when the master flash master works in the automatic TTL mode. This is very useful when the master flash additionally controls a large number of groups of external flashes, creating many auxiliary command light pulses.

Godox Thinklite TT350c burns perfectly in S2 mode from my Nikon master flash SB-900, which remotely controls three more different flash groups in TTL mode and works in TTL mode itself.

Important: the light trap, which is responsible for receiving command pulses, is located on the front panel of the Godox Thinklite TT350c. In modes S1 and S2, the flash must be placed so that it easily picks up the command pulse of the master flash master or command unit. This is easy to do, as the flash head rotates and you can always point it in the right direction.

Important: the light trap also responds to infrared light, which is used by some command devices.

Important: in modes S1 and S2 on the front panel not blinking flash activity indicator (it is simply not there)

Important: in S1 and S2 modes, the Godox Thinklite TT350c is triggered by command pulses even when it is mounted on the camera. Another ill-conceived little thing.

Godox Thinklite TT350c

Slave flash modes 'S'

To activate the mode, hold down the SYNC button for 2 seconds and rotate the main dial until the icon with the antenna and the letter 'S' (Slave, slave flash) appear.

In slave flash mode, M / Multi / TTL modes can be used. For radio control, 16 channels and 3 groups (A / B / C) are available with a range of up to 30 meters. Groups change when you press the 'Slave (GR / CH)' button, channels change when you hold down the same button and rotate the main dial.

Important: to work in the flash master mode over the air on some cameras, you must use the P / Av / Tv / M modes.

The Godox Thinklite TT350c can also be forced to operate automatically over the air using a transmitter / receiver Godox X1T-C or Godox xpro-c. As well as any Godox flash, which can work as a master flash over the air.

Godox Thinklite TT350c

Godox Thinklite TT350c

Master Flash Modes 'M'

To activate the mode, hold down the SYNC button for 2 seconds and rotate the main dial until the icon with the antenna and the letter 'M' (Master, master flash) appear.

For radio control, 16 channels and 3 groups (A / B / C) are available with a range of up to 30 meters. Groups change when you press the 'Slave (GR / CH)' button, channels change when you hold down the same button and rotate the main dial. For each of the groups of remote flash units, one of three operating modes is set: no flash (the group is inactive), TTL or Multi.

At first, it’s not easy to figure out the setup, but after spending a few minutes behind the flash menu, everything becomes clear.

Sizes of Godox Thinklite TT350c and Godox ThinkLite TT685c

Dimensions of Godox Thinklite TT350c and Godox ThinkLite TT685c

Custom Settings C.Fn

User functions are very few. It’s even strange that they made a separate menu for them. Perhaps the functionality will be expanded in new firmware.

  • St-ON / St-OF - enables or disables the sleep function
  • AF-ON / AF-OF - turns on or off the AF-assist illumination
  • bL-10 / bL-ON / bL-OF - turns on the display backlight for 10 seconds, either the backlight is always on or always off

The number of functions is small, but most likely, additional functionality will be added in subsequent firmware.

Firmware Upgrade

The Godox G1 utility for updating the firmware, as well as new firmware can be downloaded on the official website for this link. Use a standard Micro-USB cable to connect. At the time of this review, Ver. 1.6.

To make it work Godox G1 Utility need to install in Window Vista compatibility mode. Before starting the installation program, the 'Compatibility' parameter should be changed in the program properties. For MacOS users, this should not be a problem. I already described how to do this in the flash review Godox ThinkLite TT685c.

I still failed to update the firmware. The utility requires the firmware file '* .fri', and only the file '* .dfu' is downloaded from the official site.

Godox Thinklite TT350c

Godox Thinklite TT350c

My experience

The Godox Thinklite TT350c is a nice little flash. It will be comfortable to work with on small amateur Canon EOS cameras. The functionality is quite enough for both simple operation in automatic TTL (E TTL II) mode, and in advanced modes with remote control of other flash units.

Godox Thinklite TT350c is primarily intended for amateur use. A small guide number and only two AA batteries will not be able to repeat what large full-fledged external flashes are capable of.

In low light, I often shoot with an external flash attached to the camera, using high ISOs and apertures around f / 2.8. This avoids the use of high power of light pulses, and therefore I would gladly use the Godox Thinklite TT350c, but only if it had a wider range of functions. First of all, I really appreciate the function 'aperture-free auto flash without TTL'that is on my flashes SB-900, SB-910.

Recharge time with my battle batteries Panasonic eneloop AA 1900mAh at full flash power, it was 3-4 seconds. After 30 operations, the overheat mode is activated, which disappears after the flash is turned off and on again.

Godox flashes can be easily found on AliExpress for example, here. The cost usually ranges from 80 to 90 dollars, depending on the configuration. The Chinese like to add different trifles to the kit.

Results

Godox Thinklite TT350c is a small and functional flash that does its job perfectly.

Of the shortcomings, I want to highlight only a trifle:

  1. there is no sound notification about reloading, it causes the most inconvenience in slave mode
  2. a flash disk is used instead of a lever to fix the flash, which slows down and complicates fixing the flash on the camera or stand
  3. unknown outbreak survivability and little information on official service centers
  4. incompatibility with some Canon EOS cameras is possible (the instructions indicate that the flash is exactly compatible only with the specific list of cameras with which it was tested, a link to the instructions on the label)
  5. very poorly implemented software for updating the firmware. Very poor functionality of the program, which is responsible for working with the flash
  6. the absence of a large number of small useful trifles characteristic of the original outbreaks (it makes no sense to list them all). A very meager set of custom functions C.Fn
  7. getting a light-scattering card is difficult and inconvenient (a very uncomfortable ledge to pry off with a fingernail)
  8. only the orange backlight (confuses those who have other Godox flashes that have different display colors in different modes of operation)
  9. overheating function is easy to fool

I know this on fuji x-t20, for mirrorless cameras it's a sage! dorechi recently updated the wireframe. type is more beautiful than pratsyuvati. It’s a great idea to build a nice, ale my amateur consumption over the head. and the price is still the same !!! I repeat… .there is not the most beautiful solution for small mirrorless cameras, at least for the price of old ones, for example, fuji has a lot of cheap sleepers, space prices. recommend!

  • Valentine

Good overview. I looked at this, only under m4 / 3 (precisely because of the size). I was not satisfied with the long recharge time, low power, rather rapid overheating. I know that some people use such a pair or three at once, but I had another task - to have a small camera, a small and functional flash. As a result, I settled on the Nissin i40, which is more powerful, on 4 batteries, recharges quickly, is less susceptible to overheating, lasts longer, in terms of compact size, a lock on the button, but the price of this one from the review is lower. For a DSLR, I would not even look at this one, they lose to normal-size flashes, all the more so they lose to native flashes. For example, there is no point in comparing with Nikon SB700, just two different levels.

  • Alexey de Paris

Thanks to Arkady for the review! Oh and dear, this flash! I recommend looking in the direction of the old models of the original flashes. Easy to find for the same money.

    • Arkady Shapoval

It seems to me that $ 80 is not expensive at all

      • Alexey de Paris

yes 80 good price! In the review already at the very end where the PRICES are indicated 170-200 and it confused me. There is also a link to Ali on another flash for 200 bucks.

        • Arkady Shapoval

          Fixed

  • Michael

Arkady, why do you write that this flash has a low guide number? (in the section “My experience”). It seems that the professional SB-900 is less powerful (34 and 36 for the subject) ...

    • Arkady Shapoval

The Chinese have their own "guide numbers", rather, I had to write that its real output power is not as high as that of large standard external flashes. For example, the same Godox Ving V860IIc, from the previous survey, has “Chinese guide number ”60.

      • Michael

        All clear thanks

  • Sergei

I have owned this flash for 8 months. I use it with Nikon D7200. I bought it for travel. I drove to her from 910, but after a few years, I began to notice that I didn't really need such power and size. Yes, I'm heavy she. I bought 700. An excellent flash, but its weight does not differ from 910, and then I realized that I needed a flash not with 4 batteries, but with 2 ones. I started looking at the 500, but for such a functionality to give such money - the toad strangled, even when a girl friend was selling her bu for 50 bucks. And then I stumbled upon this flash by accident ... bought it. In terms of weight, this is what I wanted, plus there is an autofocus illumination. But, the quality of the plastic is terrible, in 8 months of rare use, it looks worse than 910 in 8 years of active use. In TTL mode, it is constantly overexposed, I made an amendment AJ ON -1. Recently updated the firmware - nothing has changed. And of course it takes a long time to recharge. The flash is exclusively for the undemanding user, just in my case, roll it anywhere on travel. The last time I never even got it ... In general, the quality of plastic in Godox is so-so on other products. Seems to be rough, but scratches worse than gloss

  • Nicholas

Tell me, how much she has a tight or easily rotating head, since there is no position lock there.

    • Arkady Shapoval

      It’s not tight, quite comfortable.

      • Nicholas

To paraphrase a little, does it feel "flimsy", and whether it will rotate by itself, for example, under the weight of the Godox RS18 diffuser

        • anonym

I'm mine with ext. I didn’t try with nozzles, but the head rotates clearly not flimsy. tight enough in any direction, but not too tight. just right.

  • Nadezhda

    Hello,
What is your best recommendation for the nikon d3400: is this flash new or used sb 700?

  • goddess

It did not work to update the flash firmware because you installed the Godox G1 program, but Godox G2 was necessary. It is in the same place as Godox G1, but lower.

  • anonym

recently bought a flash for use with sony nex-6. after the built-in enthusiasm, there is no limit, of course (and why didn’t I buy an external flash before for shooting in a generally insufficiently lit room?)

one problem: with a small lens, the grip is no longer enough. the flash greatly outweighs, the standard "grip" for the right hand is no longer enough. with a larger lens (especially from full frame DSLRs, where the adapter is large) it will be better: in this case, the camera is held mainly by the lens.

Has anyone put an extra handle on the NEX? share your experience. what to take, how much does it improve business?

  • Nicholas

Taki bought it for myself, in addition to my sb900 \ 910 because of the weight, mainly, but for a narrow task, put on it a Godox RS18 diffuser, on the existing yongnuo rf-603N synchronizer, and a "stick" in hand. Because with the sb900 on an outstretched arm and with a meter stick, it is not at all comfortable to work. Well, not the point. The trouble is that she (tt350N) does not want to be set on fire in manual mode from Yongnuo synchronizers. SB900 \ 910 They are set on fire, metz is set on fire, but this "crumb" is NOT. and HZ why. you insert it into the hot shoe of the camera - it works, you insert it into the synchronizer shoe - it does not work. I updated the firmware, nothing has changed. It is clear that this will be corrected with the purchase of the Godox X1T-N Transmitter, but I wanted to be able to work with what was already in stock. Maybe someone knows what's the matter?

    • Arkady Shapoval

Most likely the problem cannot be solved. 603N may not be friends with some flashes, for example, even the native SB-600. There is a problem with programming sleep mode and this is more of a transmitter / receiver problem.

    • BB

There is a "life hack": insert the flash into the synchronizer shoe until it stops, and then push it back a little. Tested with RF-603, RF-603-II, and RF-605n. It is clear that this is a crutch, but it works.

  • Eugene

Can this flash fire itself without a synchronizer remotely? I can’t understand, tell me. She needs a synchronizer, which is better? Thanks.

  • Oleksandr

Arkady, the firmware is installed using the Godox G2 utility. Well, in general, a pretty flash. Only here in my version for Nikon there is no zoom setting taking into account the crop factor, AP-ON / OFF. Firmware version 1.3

  • Anton

The most detailed and understandable review, thanks!

  • Alexey

I have been using this flash for three months on a Panasonic GX9. The flash is peculiar, you need to constantly monitor the result and adjust the power. Either overexposed, then underexposed. In short, “how many beer - so many songs”. In principle, you can work, but I repeat, you need to constantly monitor and adjust.
    Overall score IMHO - 3+

As for the firmware, you need to download the Godox G2 utility. But for Panasonic it makes no sense yet. There is an old firmware V1.2 and no newer.

In addition, Panasonic has the following differences:
    - in automatic mode, the screen does not show the focal length and aperture. The focal length is displayed only in manual mode;
    - autofocus illumination does not work, or rather it does not exist at all;
    - there is an additional setting "4/3 ON / OFF". The instructions (Russian and English) do not say anything about it. In practice, when it is turned on, the focal length is reflected as indicated on the lens of cameras 4/3 (range 12-52 mm), and when turned off, as on full-frame cameras (from 24 to 105 mm).

And the last thing. Instructions in Russian for all types of these flashes and other Godox products can be found on the website https://godox.ru/catalog/seriya-thinklite/vspyshka-nakamernaya-godox-thinklite-tt350o-ttl-dlya-olympus-panasonic/
Many thanks to these kind people!

        'two labels with poles'?

      • BB

'FEC (Flash Exposure Compansation)' = '... Compensation' (occurs twice)

Considering that this is a compact flash, it would not hurt to indicate the size of the flash. Or a photo next to the same SB-900, tk. I saw the same TT-685 only in pictures.
I am considering a purchase in case a flash drive “may or may not be necessary” - in such cases, carrying the SB-900, let alone the YN-968, is not a hunt.

  • Basil

Good afternoon everyone! Acquired TT350N and X1TN. D7100. In normal mode, we can say they work
(except for power control from the synchronizer at 1/250). But HSS (FP) doesn't want to work. More precisely, the indication turns on, but the flash does not work as it should. At 1/400, it still tries to shine, and less - no. Puffs, but at the wrong time.
At 1/4000, changing the Fn.0 parameter to 12, it turned out to catch the light strip in the middle of the frame. How would it be with a normal flash without HSS. M and TTL are the same.
I updated the flash and synchronizer firmware - it did not help. Please tell me what else to twist so that HSS appears.

    • Michael

What kind of camera? Maybe she doesn't have hss

      • Basil

Nikon D7100. She has HSS (FP).

    • Andrei

I had this with the Andoer flash. Up to 1/400 everything is fine, and the shorter is the darkening from the bottom of the frame and the faster the shutter speed, the stronger the darkening. And on the D70S and D50 everything is fine at all exposures. Most likely a flash glitch. If it is possible to exchange, then change.

      • Andrei

        * With Andoer flash and D90 camera.

      • Alexey

the shutters work differently on these older cameras than on others. and x-sync is much higher there, so there is no problem.

      • Basil

Do not quite understand. It was bad on the D90, but on the older standards? There is no way to change - I took it from my hands. When buying, I checked everything except HSS. : ((

        • Andrei

          So.

    • BB

I checked TT350n with D7100, D7200, D750, D80 - everywhere HSS works, but at shutter speeds shorter than 1/800 there is a slight partial blackout on a part of the frame (but not when HSS does not work at all). To clarify: the flash is directly on the camera, HSS works if you turn it on on the flash itself, if you turn it off - the camera sets 1 / 200-1 / 320 (depending on the settings of the device), and does not allow you to set a faster shutter speed.
Also tested with a pair of Yongnuo-622 synchronizers, both TTL and HSS work remotely

I also noticed one glitch: from 18-140, when the zoom is turned to the maximum, the flash switches to manual zoom, sets it to 50mm, you have to switch to 'auto'.

The firmware was the last one at the moment - v1.3 from 2018/08/15. I tried to flash v1.0 - at the end of the firmware, the flash gave an error E9. I flashed back v1.3 (at the office site there is only v1.0 and v1.3)

      • Basil

Apparently my flash is faulty. The firmware is now 1.3. When installed in a shoe, it puffs, but it is not highlighted in the frame at all (i.e., puffs at the wrong time), but through the godox X1TN synchronizer, adjusted in response time, it turns out like this.

        • Andrei

And what about longer shutter speeds, for example, 1/400 or 1/1000?
Because I got this kind of picture at 1/1000 in the shoe.
Then Andoer decided to use it as an additional flash, setting fire to Yong. Only in this combination everything worked fine.

The light strip becomes wider, with shorter ones - narrower. Obviously, the HSS does not work out as expected ... Did you set it on fire from Yangnuo using a light trap? Did HSS work?

            • Andrei

“The light stripe becomes wider, with shorter ones - narrower.” - the same garbage.
“Did you set it on fire from Yangnuo with a light trap? Did the HSS work? ”- yes. Yes.

              • BB

Maybe I misunderstood something, but TT350 does not have TTL and HSS for light trap? There are only S1 and S2 like

        • BB

Above, below and in the center there are dark stripes (clearly visible on the wall), at some shutter speeds it is more noticeable, at some less, but uneven lighting is present (at 1/200 the lighting is fairly uniform).
Also, as the shutter speed is shortened, the exposure also drops (as I understand it, there is not enough flash power).
Today I tried the flash a little in real conditions: a small hall, about 12 * 12m, light walls, a low white ceiling. With Iso 1000-1600 and f / 3.5-f / 5.6, the flash is enough even for working “at the ceiling”, but unlike “large” on-camera flashes, it is not enough for the second, and even more so for the third “puff” of burst shooting.

          • Basil

There the reflector itself is so-so - it shines unevenly even at normal shutter speeds.
I tried as Andrey advised above - I set fire to a light trap in HSS from 580. More or less worked, but there are also dark stripes and for some reason a vignette below. Although the lens was 50mm and the flash was 28mm. It turns out that in some cases it can still be used. The only bad thing is that when working through my synchronizer, HSS does not work.

I looked in the orders from aliexpress for the cost of my flash, then I paid 37 dollars. Due to the incorrect operation of the flash, I returned 50 /% of the money. Considering that I took it as an additional one, it suited me.
Try to somehow negotiate with the seller or return it, or somehow overestimate the flash. Also try to pant with a different camera - maybe, like mine, the result will be different.

            • BB

And can you tell us more about “set fire to a light trap in HSS from 580”? Which mode should the TT350N be turned on?

              • Basil

                580EX2 - M, HSS
                TT350N - M, H, S1

          • Basil

I tried to use it on children's DR. The room is approximately 7 * 7. I usually don't use it, but I tried it - TTL works out adequately.
With a flash to the ceiling, it is enough for 1 frame and then a pause for eternity. Like the good old film days.
As a result, I took pictures from the canon580ex2 - in the M mode. It works on the d7100 norms both on the camera and after 622 sync.

When working as a counter in the S1 mode 1/64 TT350 works out the 5fps series.
For home pampering will go. For real life in reportage mode - no.

The answer is more likely not an answer to you, but a review of the outbreak.

        • BB

Maybe on the synchronizer itself you need to enable HSS?

          • Basil

With HSS turned off on the synchronizer, the camera will not let you set the shutter speed shorter than 1/250

As they wrote in the comments, the flash has an interesting light trap mode S1 and S2: when the HSS option is enabled, the minimum power becomes 1/16, and the flash works with a light trap in HSS, up to 1/8000. Tested on TT350N with D7200.
That is, the algorithm is as follows: we put a flash with HSS support on the camera, turn on the “M” mode on the flash, on the TT350 the “M” mode, S1 and HSS, set the required power. Godox will fire on a flash from the camera's flash.
Or on the camera the flash is in TTL mode, and on the TT350 it is in “M”, S2 and HSS modes.
Tested with Nikon SB-900 and Yongnuo YN-968N-II as presenters.
At the same time, Godox TT350N cannot work in the Nikon CLS system :(

By the way, I didn’t know that in the “M” mode the HSS works on the above flashes.

Can you tell me if the cap for the Cannon 420 flash will fit?
On AliExpress, regular caps cost about 70r. And for this godox TT350 there is a cap of 300 rubles + delivery 70-100 rubles. Can someone tell me as cheaply as possible?
Or there are similar flashes in the size of the head ...

  • Yan

    I got myself one for Fuji x-s10 + Godox TT600 + X2t = beauty :)

  • Igor

The flash is very critical to power supplies. If other flashes from 4 finger batteries charge quickly, then in this one ... or there are electrolytic capacitors that swing slowly.

Greetings. Maybe someone knows, with rear-curtain sync in TTL mode, the flash works at minimum power. yongnuo yn 622n-tx and yn 622n are available. When the flash mode is M, everything is ok. But every time you don’t want to change the power on the flash itself. And when you change on the pilot, nothing changes in sync mode. on the second curtain. When there are no questions on the first question TTL mode
