ANNOUNCEMENT: Zenit M and ZENIT Zenitar 1/35 M-MOUNT

26.09.2018/1/35 information on the cooperation of Leica and KMZ was confirmed, and the official announcement of the Zenit M camera with a ZENIT Zenitar XNUMX/XNUMX M-MOUNT lens took place.

Most likely the camera is based on Leica M Type 240. Visually, I found only a few differences:

  1. instead of name 'LEICA M' Now 'Zenit m'
  2. instead of the inscription 'LEICA CAMERA MADE IN GERMANY' Now 'DESIGNED IN KRASNOGORSK RUSSIA'
  3. added at the end KMZ logo
  4. instead LEICA SUMMICRON-M 1: 2/35 ASPH can use Zenitar 1/35 M-Mount
  5. easy redesign of the case (but not a new design)
  6. removed the port for connecting an external EVI

UPDATE: all details on the official website.

Comments: 122, on the topic: ANNOUNCEMENT: Zenit M and ZENIT Zenitar 1/35 M-MOUNT

  • Murzik

The announcement says that the camera will cost 4 - 5K cu. and is sold with the lens. Now imagine a Leica quality 35 lens with a 1 aperture !!! The lens of such aperture by itself pulls at 2000 cu. Based on this, we can logically assume that the lens 2000 + 2000 camera in a black housing = 4000. or 2000 + 3000 in a silver one. So everything is pretty natural and normal. The carcass of a watering can itself will cost you just 6000. And also lenses. And here is the Clone of a watering can full-frame mirrorless camera for 2000. I think it's great!

    • VK

The only problem is that on the basis of the Leica 240 is made, which is already ... 2012, like? And all this happiness for $ 5k? :) In any case, and $ 2k per carcass - I'll get in line, I like the inscription “zenith”.

And the lens is interesting. Our development? Or someone's license ... We are waiting for the release and test it.

  • Onotole

By the way, gentlemen, who believe that the model and the idea as a whole are failures.
Ask at your leisure how things are going with the Irbit Motorcycle Plant (“Ural”), how much they are selling motorcycles now, how much and how modern technologies are used there.

    • VK

The Urals are made for export (few people will buy a motorcycle at the price of a Solaris), this has long been known. The Ural in the USA is roughly like “the same Harley” for us (what do we imagine when we hear Harley? The Marlboro cowboy, or am I that old?). Well, they make the limits cool, I liked the limited series of Urals "star wars" ... But this is an isolated example.

      • anonym

The Urals have nothing to do with Harley.
Google BMW R71 and Zündapp KS 750 motorcycles

        • VK

I'm talking about perception. That for us “harley is the legend of the usa”, so for them “the ural is a big iron Soviet and 'extreme'“

    • Я

The sanctions will soon do their job….

  • Ivan

What I like, so there is no emblem of the red circle of Lake and the inscription of Lake, despite the fact that he is actually Lake. Therefore, it is less likely to be robbed, and the camera stolen

  • Sergei

I confess at first neighing from the characteristics and most importantly prices. Then read carefully. Not so sad for a start. Especially optics.

    • Onotole

I suggest, by the way, to dream about what and how you could remove if you had a hypothetical manual 35 / 1,0 in your hands (for any FF system). Something I am very difficult to determine its application. Well, if it were 85 / 1,0 or 135 / 1,0 or 20 / 1,0, I could have come up with no problem what could be removed with it, which couldn’t be removed with similar lenses with a lower aperture.
      But the 35 / 1,0 manual - well, I don't know ...

      • Arkady Shapoval

        Under the video just right

      • Valentine

The question is what will it be at F 1,0. Under Lake there is, for example, the Chinese 7Artisan F1.1. Budget (25 000 rubles for Lake, you can say super-budget). But considering what a picture is all the same on an open and close to an open aperture, its application, as you rightly write, is not particularly better than less fast lenses. There is a review https://www.thephoblographer.com/2018/03/07/lens-review-7artisans-50mm-f1-1-leica-m-mount-and-used-on-sony-fe/
But at the same time, under different systems there are manual aperture lenses with a fairly high quality picture. With their application, things are better.

        • Valentine

I forgot to indicate that this is 50 mm, and ours made 35 mm

        • Onotole

Well, to make it more interesting - let's assume that this hypothetical 35/1 has an exemplary ideal working diaphragm.
What, in principle, is usually filmed with 35s, what are they suitable for? Well, first of all, this is street, reportage photography and, perhaps, landscape, since it is a moderate wide angle. Neither for the first, nor for the second, nor for the third, the aperture of 1,0 did not fall - in the landscape, in the general case, a larger depth of field is desirable, the amount of light does not care - there is a tripod, a lake, the forest will not run away; in the reportage and street with such a narrow depth of field (manually controlled!), there is also nothing to do: until you focus very precisely where you need it - the whole moment will take 2 minutes like (in short, “f / 8 and be there”), and a hefty fool, oh unobtrusive shooting can be safely forgotten.
If the portrait is what to fry, then, for obvious reasons, only full-height or even fit the person into the landscape / setting. In the first case, 50 / 1,4 will cope better (including with background blur and geometry), you just need to take 1-2 steps back, and in the second, again, f / 1,0 is undesirable.
Further - with such a diaphragm (provided that it works perfectly) astrophotography will suggest itself. But, in fact, in astrophotography with a lens Already than 20-24mm EGF - there is nothing to do.
Sport? Well, only if they let you shoot right on the playing field, 2-3 meters from the players - it is very short. The interiors are too long.
Architecture - see the paragraph about landscape….

In short - can you have any other considerations? Arkady writes about video filming, I can't comment on it in any way, I really don't know anything about video filming and there is no particular desire to change it.

          • Murzik

I also immediately expressed the opinion that the aperture with such a focal will go for an art video. If you pay attention to the characteristics of precisely movie lenses, then make sure that this aperture is quite common in this category, since there is a need for super-super-crazy DOF in movies, especially in art paintings.

          • Valentine

If F / 1 is working, then you can remove a lot of things. Nobody forbids to cover, but to reveal more ... Plots for 35, where, among other things, there is an open one and a large aperture could be used https://explorecams.com/photos/pair/nikon-d800=af-nikkor-35mm-f-2d

            • Onotole

Which of these frames requires lesser depth of field?

              • Valentine

Onotole, from my point of view, neither F / 1 nor F / 1.2 is almost never required. But this does not mean that they are not needed or they are bought, without understanding something. I think just the opposite is true. Those who buy know how to use them. There was a time when it seemed to me that there was no point in F / 2, since more or less decent sharpness starts from F / 2.8. This was a fallacy. When I picked up the glasses quite sharp on F / 2, I realized that I would shoot them. Likewise, F / 1.4 didn’t seem like much to me. Again, until I held in my hands a glass with a really working F / 1.4. Now I think that F / 1.2 is not needed, but is it definitely not needed or I just don’t understand this?

            • Peter Sh.

And than Samyang 35mm 1.4 does not fit?

              • Valentine

So I do not claim that it does not fit. Let's look at the price, we will understand the comparison. By the way, how do you like this Samyang with F / 1.4 and how often is F / 1.4 useful to you?

              • Peter Sh.

Honestly, I misunderstood your post. Then I read everything and it dawned on me.

About shooting at f / 1.4 aperture. Onotole is right, usually few people will shoot like that. The wide angle makes it difficult to compose - too many details won't get into the depth of field. But this has a definite advantage, you can get something new and unusual. Not set on edge, if I may say so. And this is very important, it seems to me. Even in my extremely narrow specialization, it is always necessary to look for new forms, perspectives and solutions.

              • Peter Sh.

Yes, this Samyang at 1.4 is very working.
In general, in 80% of all shootings I have a regular telezoom of the type 70-200 2.8. The rest is just for general development.

              • Onotole

And in your specialization, Peter, as it seems to me with such a manual lens, has nothing to do, correct, if not.

              • Peter Sh.

Onotole, yes, of course there is nothing to do. There is generally nothing to do with most lenses, unfortunately.

  • Michael

Well, how could such ridiculous mistakes be made during the presentation !? Look at the specifications in Russian. The shooting speed is 3 frames per minute !!! This error, unfortunately, reflects a lot ...

    • Michael

Maybe this is not a mistake?))

      • Valery A.

In my opinion, this is a tendency - when Deep Purple comes to visit, then Zenit-under-Lake comes out.

    • Denis

it’s good that they didn’t write 3 shots per minute)))

  • anonym

Everything is clear and in the case of a new craft.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMpnjx6nOa8

    • Basil

Thank you for the link, reviewed 3 times, my laughter was not a chapel)))))
The authors of the video are simply handsome))))

    • Denis

in this version, it turns out that the actor is replaying)
and the original text of a person who didn’t really work anywhere is funnier than any alteration

  • Artem

This is a purely niche product. For very “not for all” therefore, all reasoning and why? It makes no sense. They will release only 500 pieces, instantly go to collectors and that's it.
And to read how the lens 35 1.0 is not needed is ridiculous. Shoot at 50 5.6 who's stopping you. Or 500 11)))

    • Alex

And why immediately at 50 f 5.6. There are 1.8, optimally and for the price. And taking $ 2k for f 1.0 lens is crazy

  • Michael

It's a pity the bayonet was changed - it was necessary to leave the M42)))

  • Igor

I wonder who will buy it? And what did marketers think?

    • Good M

I propose to agree with which thread a German car dealership with a pedigree and charge for example the armored Pullman with the Zaporozhets badge. But what prevents it. Still paint in two colors and the price he will not.
And to make it cheaper than the original and a quick-release nameplate ... but leave it on the steering wheel ... And also the previous generation.
      Song!

  • zengarden

What surprises you so? well, they will release 500 relabeled watering cans with their own lens to be noticed (as already mentioned above); this is not their first experience. They released the Petzval 2,2 / 85 lens (full analogue) at a high price - they sold out like hot cakes. For Europeans, this is exotic.

  • Max

An example of photos from him from photowebexpo - https://photowebexpo.ru/assets/files/PHOTOKINA-2018/ZENIT-M/Leica_M.zip .
On a fully open one - such a thing, but there are no other examples. In the metadata of the files the camera is recorded as LEICA M (Typ 240): D

    • Valentine

Yes, metadata on the Leica M240 camera and Summilux-M 35mm F / 1.4 lens. According to this metadata, software, such as ACR, correctly recognizes the camera and raw files from it, and also allows you to apply distortion correction to the lens. This is bad?

  • Paul

The next step of KMZ will be the release of a Zenith copy of Leica Monochrome, and even without a display.
Will be released 100 pcs. and will be sold immediately at Sotheby's auction at a starting price of € 100.000)))

  • Andrei

Our developers fellows made a great Zenit M camera. It's a pity a little expensive.

    • Michael

      You are from Germany?

  • Sergei

How many rzhaki were there before about the digital zenith. A few years ago, Arkady I remember, even like a duck, launched on April 1. Now here it is, please, digital Zenith, eat. So no, again, everything is wrong! Zenith that a copy of Leica is dear to you, but Lada-Kalina and other jigs you call basins though inexpensively already. Arrange srach again. Neither you nor your country respect. Nobody owes you anything. Do something yourself first. From the lens there are still no examples of photos anywhere and the car is criticized. The best photographic equipment in the Union was produced at the Kiev Arsenal plant and the Krasnogorsk plant in Russia. I still use Helios 200 81-50 on Nikon D2. and on Canon and Pentax I put Helios 77 50-1.8. What about tair-11? And industrial 61ld Kharkov? Better to look for optics yet. If you know how to do something, it will be necessary, will still be released. Hare gundet karoch. Got it

    • Arkady Shapoval

Examples of photographs already exist with this lens, and the funniest thing is that in EXIF shots it’s not even Zenit M, but Leica Camera AG LEICA M (TYP 240)and this is a shame, not an achievement. Therefore, in many ways, criticism is justified.

      • Valentine

A person either did not understand, or prefers his illusions to reality. But, tell me, if in EXIF to replace the camera model, will RAW from it be processed correctly in Lightroom? It seems to me that KMP did not particularly hide that it was a limited Leica with the Zenit logo. Leica makes its own limited edition and custom-made. It's just that this is a luxury segment, as already mentioned, with its own economy. But, of course, there is nothing of ours in her. And for so many years to set a goal to develop a digital camera, and so to do nothing, of course, is strange. No one expects that we ourselves will make matrices, image processing processors, etc. No technology. But to make a fleet of autofocus lenses and build your camera on existing components is by no means a cosmic task.

        • Arkady Shapoval

Yes. The same Yongnuo and lenses make even cameras. For 4 years they could.

          • BB

            What kind of cameras?
            I somehow missed this moment.

    • anonym

and what’s the factory itself developed here, they gave LEICA 500 money for state officials who are fatter. Stupid PR.

      • Charles

It is believed that everything is intended to promote the Zenitar 35mm f / 1.0 lens.

        • Arkady Shapoval

You will need to look at the prices, because you can buy the second version Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f / 0.95 for 700 dollars.

          • anonym

            Again behind the entire planet

    • Artem

Before you are 2 devices, one canon or nikon for the best price, and another copy of Leica 10 years ago, and it costs 10 times more. But "made" in Russia!

Well, of course, the patriot will choose domestic)

  • anonym

This "monster", apparently, was developed by the same "sharashka" as Zenit-Arena, judging by the price. This toy is very suitable for the mistresses of the oligarchs - "daddy" will give !!!

  • Sergo_007

Judging by the inscription “DESIGNED IN KRASNOGORSK RUSSIA” they will be proud of what they have successfully stolen for another 100 years :)

  • Uncle Liao

The Krasnogorsk plant now itself does not know what it is producing and why. Since when has Zenith been a rangefinder? What to expect in the future? A Zorky SLR? Ours need to learn again to be themselves, and not try to clumsily imitate Western marketing, then at least they will not despise their own. And to hell with him, even that they repainted Lake. The same Lake was selling budget Panasonic with its own logo, and nothing. Lada is a copy of Fiat, but at that time the car was excellent, and no one complained that it was poorly copied. And FEDs were the first with the same Leikas.

  • Uncle Liao

I saw their new Petzval lens at the lomography stand in Hong Kong. The lens itself is made very cool, well-kept retro style, gives the impression of a real thing from that era. Shoots, most likely, also excellent. But the inscriptions ... the Petzval inscription, engraved in italics, flaunts in the upper center, which quite fits into the general style, but closer to the bayonet there is some absurdity in the usual printed font - Krasnogorsk Made in Russia Zenit, or something like that. At that time, I did not know about this lens, and at first I even thought that it was the Chinese who decided to imitate what Zenit had made. Oddly enough, the same Chinese behave much more adequately when presenting their products. I'm, of course, about the official manufacturers, and not about Nokla and Abibasy :)

  • Anonymous2

Lens Club already has a photo with Zenitar 0.95 / 50-E

  • Uncle Liao

Why is the RUSSIAN holding called “Shvabe” aroused no less questions? Is it in honor of whom, or in honor of what? No, okay, there is “Rostec”, but why did the name change exactly to this? And, it would seem, what does the Germans have to do with it?
On the whole, one gets the impression that this pseudo-Zenith is a photographic Aurus. Cool, but expensive, and only for the elite. And if Aurus was intended primarily for Solntselikiy, then the new Zenith is a toy for Dimon so that he and his Leica would not shine anywhere.

    • Alexey

In honor of Fedor (Theodor) Schwabe, naturally a German who came to Russia, opened a store in 1837, and later the first workshop in Moscow for the sale and production of optical devices, which had grown in 1912 in a joint-stock company with a registered capital of 1 million rubles. No other German footprint found. The German company Dr. Wilmar Schwabe works in the pharmaceutical field. According to official figures, 100% of the Schwab holding is owned by Rostec, the director is A. Patrikeev, who was the director of KMZ until 2016.

  • Onotole

And by the way, this Zenitar 35 / 1,0 can be put on the F-mount?

  • Denis

Finally! If anyone saw a portrait of one of the general directors of KMZ Goev, he will understand this exclamation. Took up for them. Tidy up. Che good disappear something. A good factory after all. And yes, it's cool that there is no red circle of Leica. Although, maybe this Lake grabs a straw. But the straw is delicious. In general, with such capacities as KMZ (and in the USSR as a whole), at one time the market should be sold to Nikons and Canons.

  • Arkady Shapoval

Go on sale, only 460.000 per whale.

    • Michael
