Quantaray 28-90mm / 3.5-5.6 is almost all made of plastic but with a metal bayonet mount. The retractable body frame (trunk) consists of one section. When changing the focal length, the hood does not move with the movable frame of the case. During focusing, the lens hood rotates with the focus ring. The hood can be installed in the opposite direction for transportation.
When changing the focal length, the rear lens moves in the middle of the lens body like a pump - it draws in and pushes out air. This behavior of the rear lens is called 'vacuum cleaner effect', which can increase the amount of dust that accumulates in the camera.

Focusing
Auto Focus Speed - high. Focusing speed slightly depends on the focal length. The maximum speed is available at 28 mm and decreases slightly with increasing focal length.
During focusing, the front lens and the frame for filters spin and drive forward. When changing the focal length, the front lens does not rotate.
The focus ring is wide and comfortable enough. The focus ring rotates only 30 degrees (the smallest move I've met). Most likely, a high focusing speed is associated with a small stroke of the focus ring. The ring travel is smooth, but has huge backlash.
The minimum focusing distance is 47 cm.
When used on a camera Nikon D90 (with unpretentious Multi-CAM 1000 focusing system) Quantaray 28-90mm / 3.5-5.6 behaves strangely, back focus was noticed at some focal lengths. In terms of accuracy and focus tenacity, the Quantaray 28-90mm / 3.5-5.6 combined with Nikon D90 turned out to be a bit problematic.

- The direction of rotation of the focus ring does not match the original Nikon AF Nikkor 28-80mm 1: 3.5-5.6D (MKII).
- The lens has a manual aperture ring. Quantaray 28-90mm / 3.5-5.6 is a super cheap solution for simple tasks. But it's still much better to look for original similar lenses. Nikon AF Nikkor 28-80mm 1: 3.3-5.6G (MKIII) и Nikon AF Nikkor 28-80mm 1: 3.5-5.6D (MKII) or Nikon 28-100mm 1: 3.5-5.6G AF Nikkor.

The Quantaray 28-90mm / 3.5-5.6 is an old man with fast focusing, 9-blade diaphragm and a hood that masks external changes in the lens size during focusing and / or zooming. Focus ring travel is very small. By itself, it is a lightweight, pleasant to handle and undemanding lens. Optically weak.
