My experience
In general, Sony a6500 - good camera / camcorder with great potential. In general, I am delighted with modern technology. The sediment was left only by the focusing system and some lags in control.
'4D Focus' technology used by Sony a6300, showed itself very well with a whale lens E PZ 16–50 mm F3.5-5.6 OSS. The same technology is used in the Sony a6500 camera, but when used with lenses Sony FE 3.5-6.3 / 24-240 OSS (SEL24240) и Sony FE 1.8 / 50 (SEL50F18F) no miracle happened. The focusing speed is limited by the capabilities of the motors and the logic of the lenses, in general, there is no need to talk about high speed. All these 'Lightning fast focusing speed'are just the dreams of marketers. Worst of all, focus tenacity is on par with ancient DSLRs.
Usually, everything is simple with SLR cameras - the vast majority of DSLR cameras, except for some renegades like Canon D30/D60, the center point of phase focusing is cross-shaped. In difficult shooting conditions, such a point is a kind of panacea - turned it on and got an accurate and fast focus. With Sony a6500 this 'trick' does not work. In any focus mode and with any focus areas / points, getting the camera to focus on what I want is not always possible.
Sony a6500 often clings to the background (behind the background), ignoring the subject. In the general case, work as the central focus point on some Nikon D40 it’s much more convenient and comfortable for me because of more confident tenacity of focus and unambiguous focusing on the object that the camera was aimed at. Why 11 fps and a buffer for 300 frames if everything is out of focus? Why 425 phase focusing points if Nikon D40 with three points grabs the focus much more tenaciously? Perhaps I got some negative experience with the camera and these lenses, many other reviews praise the focus of the Sony a6500.
Still, there are positive aspects of focusing - its accuracy.

With a sharp change in light exposure adaptation takes up to 2 seconds.
During a sharp movement in the EVI, a blur appears due to the rolling shater.
Blackout time during shutter release is minimal. I could not turn off the display of the filmed material immediately after the shutter was released, therefore, during continuous shooting, after each release of the shutter, the captured image is displayed for a fraction of a second, which leads to the fact that it is impossible to sight the filmed scene further. The menu is tricky, and even a headache can start from it. At the same time, I have long been familiar with the Sony camera menu.

I would recommend Olympus e-m1 or younger (see models that can stack in the camera) with native glass. If in reality there are about 5000 positions, then once set a constant light, select the Settings in the manual, set the bb on a white sheet - and you can drive a stream directly onto the jpeg card with an awesome depth of field. On native glasses, the olik is able to move the focus with electronic shutters and glue frames, and he does it better than Photoshop (but worse than specialized software). As a result, you will get a bunch of jpeg files with a normal grip in a reasonable time, for the directory it is.
PS: but the option with any camera (even a soap box) and normal light is still the most budgetary, and the catalog often does not need quality, 600 pixels on the long side will be enough. As far as I remember, the d90 knows how to drive pictures by cable directly to Lightroom, an excellent bunch would be to immediately control the result.

I'm not a big expert in the video. With this device I shot a video presentation for one model. Filmed with a tripod and hand-held on a long focal length. As a result, they took a 240 mm video taken off the hands, the stub worked with a bang, the sound was written both to the lavalier microphone and to an external device. The button for starting video recording is located in an inconvenient place, it is extremely inconvenient to press it. You can visualize while shooting a video through EVI - it is very convenient.
The camera squeezes a good bitrate, in general, Sony is valued for its video capabilities.
4K video can only be written to a UHS-I U3 memory card. On my UHS-I UI I refused to write 4K 25/24 / 30p 100M and Full HD 100P 100M refused, only 4K 24/25 / 30p 60M / Full HD 100P 60M maximum.

I’ve been using the camera for six months. Besides her there is Nikon full-frame. I took it for amateur video shooting, while I wanted to use the existing Nikon lenses in autofocus mode. The first impression of autofocus was unpleasant, especially with adapters and in poor lighting. Now I’ve adapted a little. There is a feeling that the continuous autofocus mode works more reliably and is more predictable in the results, possibly because more sensors are involved, a more complicated (smarter) algorithm, the picture itself and the contrast are taken into account. So far, it has not been possible categorically only to take a picture of an object moving rapidly towards the camera. Focus always got a little backward, although it's probably crooked hands. I really liked the combination of the camera with Leica m lenses. I want to note that a camera with a techart adapter and Summicron can easily fit into a jacket pocket, it turns out to be a very nice combination for use on trips and on a walk :)
What adapter do you use for autofocus with Nikon optics? Techart + “nikon-to-leica”?
On non-autofocus and screwdriver - yes, I roughly twist the focus with my left hand, the adapter makes fine adjustments on the floor by pressing. But all this works better in continuous autofocus mode with a wide coverage of the focusing spot, the narrower the spot, the worse it works.
There is a direct adapter on autofocus, it is better because it can also control the diaphragm and transfers data to the camera.
