Review VEGA-11U 3/54 (MMZ)

The review shows the VEGA-11U 3/54 lens with the MMZ logo (Minsk Mechanical Plant named after S.I. Vavilov) and serial number 300670.

VEGA-11U 3/54 (MMZ)

VEGA-11U 3/54 is a lens for Soviet narrow-format photographic enlargers. VEGA-11U 3/54 can be easily turned into a macro lens, which, in fact, it is interesting. Unlike many other Industar lenses, VEGA-11U 3/54 uses 12 aperture blades, although the blades are not blackened.

Important: VEGA-11U 3/545 does not have a focusing ring. It is impossible to focus using this lens in the usual sense of the word. The lens is always focused on a certain distance. Due to the fact that the lens is most often used for macro, the focus problem is not so important - it is very convenient to focus by moving the camera to or from the subject. It is very convenient to use VEGA-11U 3/54 s macro rings.

This lens was produced in different factories and has a number of subversions. Optically VEGA-11U 3/54 (MMZ, from this review) turned out to be optically weaker, rather than VEGA-11U 2.8/50 (AOMZ) and VEGA-11U 2,8/50 (LZOS). VEGA-11U 3/54 has an unusual combination of relative aperture and focal length: 1: 3, 54 mm. The lenses of the Vega brand, which were marked 2.8 / 50, also have an exact focal length of 54 mm (just rounded up to the generally accepted multiple of 50 mm).

On camera Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi I used a VEGA-11U 3/54 lens with an adapter M42-Canon EOS и macro rings M42 different thickness.

How to use on modern cameras?

Attention: when installing through a conventional adapter M42-Nikon F, M42-Canon EOS or any 'M42-Your mirror system', a VEGA-11U 3/54 lens will damage the camera mirror, as it has a large protrusion of the rear of the helicoid. The lens can be used in a narrow format (on conventional cropped and full-format modern digital SLR or mirrorless cameras) only with macro rings or macromech.

Attention: the back of the lens is quite thick and does not fit into some macro rings. I have several sets of macro rings, with one of them this lens cannot be used precisely for this reason.

How to use this lens with cameras specific other systems (Sony, Pentax, etc.) - ask in the comments and they will definitely tell you. If you have any questions on compatibility and adapters, ask in the comments (comments do not require any registration at all, any user can add a comment).

A lot of information on working with manual lenses with any modern Nikon cameras will find here, any Canon EOS cameras will find here.

A macro fur is not suitable for focusing? Or does the working distance of the lens not allow?

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Yes, it does.

    • Alexander

It will do, but infinity, in this case, of course, will not.

  • Rodion

For this Vega, the working segment corresponds to 45,5 mm, but because of the rear part, which protrudes strongly (focal segment ~ 32 mm), it is impossible to install the lens on the ZK. "Superfluous" are about 6 mm, and the rear lens rests against the matrix shaft ...

".. comments do not require any, no registration at all, any user can add a comment ..." - this is also why Radozhiv's site is cooler than all others like him!

Actually, where is the review? One advertisement :(

    • Arkady Shapoval

The review is on this page, above the comments. As for me - all information is indicated. For example, if something is not clear or something is not enough, please ask here. This is a simple enough lens to make a 30.000 character overview.

Arkady, hare all crap on the camera to cling to)))

I don't think the old Canon 450D will get anything from Vega. And if the pictures are shopped, there will even be nothing, as an example - This one even hit the Popular section.

The site of Arcadia has such a reference and educational character in manual optics. For example, a man bought the first DSLR, and his grandfather in the chest had an old lens lying around or looked at something at a cheap price, google it, got on the net to Arkady and already have an idea what the lens is and what it is eaten with, and the mirror It will not hurt, as is the case with this Vega. So the point in such reviews certainly is

  • Alexey

You write that this instance turned out to be optically weaker? And what is this expressed in? Fewer lines, optical distortion? I just have a similar lens, the macro is excellent.

  • Vladimir

For a macro with rings or fur, sharper than the long version, maybe my build is of poor quality.

  • SergeyM

    Error or inaccuracy:

"When installed through a conventional adapter ... .. the lens will damage the camera mirror, as it has a large protrusion on the back of the HELICOID."

Since this is a lens without a focusing system, a helicoid cannot be there, is it not?

  • Conrad Michelson

Good day! I'm going to use the lens from the magnifier to shoot 8mm film. Which of the following (Vega11U, I50U, I96U) is sharper? And one more thing: Vega 11U has a M42 thread (as I understand it), and Industarov M39 thread. I have everything done under M39. So, will the lens kit from Vega go into the Industar housing?
