Note about Canon EOS 450D

Canon EOS DIGITAL 450D was introduced back in January 2008, in some countries it might have a different name: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi or Canon EOS Kiss.

Canon EOS 450D

Canon EOS 450D (I have the inscription Canon EOS Rebel XSi)

Basic about Canon EOS DIGITAL 450D:

  • 9-point focus moduleused in models 20D, 20 Da, 30D, 400D, 500D, 550D, 600D и 100D. Center point is cruciform with a sensor of increased accuracy. Enhanced accuracy sensor works with 'lighter' F / 2.8 lenses, 2.8 lenses
  • JVI on the basis of pentzer mirrorssmall enough in comparison with similar JVI based on pentaprism.
  • 3 inch displayTrue, with a small number of pixels (about 230.000). The Canon 450D was one of the first Canon EOS cameras with a 3-inch display, which greatly affected the usability. Prior to her, only the TOP had such a large display. 1D Mark III, 1DS Mark III и 40D.
  • Auto View Live View. The Canon 450D is the first Canon EOS series with automatic support for Live View. The inclusion of the Live View mode can be programmed on the central button of the joystick using the C.FnIV 11/3 function. Unfortunately, Live View only works in A-DEP modes, M, AV, TV, P... Press the '*' button to auto focus in Live View.
  • as well as 1000D, 40D, 50D, 1D Mark III, 1DS Mark III the Canon 450D has a Live View but can't shoot video.
  • 35-zone SPC metering sensorwhich was used even by Canon 5D Mark II.
  • maximum burst speed 3.5 frames per second. Frame buffer in RAW format is 6 pictures, in JPEL L format is 9 pictures, in RAW + JPEG format  4 shots. When the noise reduction function is turned on at high ISO, the frame buffer capacity is significantly reduced.
  • 12 MP with a maximum size of the created image 2848 X 4272.
  • DIGIC III processorworking with 14-bit color depth. The same paired processor is used TOP 1D Mark III и 1DS Mark III. Prior to 450D, only TOP cameras could use 14-bit 1D Mark III, 1DS Mark III и 40D.
  • ISO can only be selected in the range 100-1600 units in 1 step increments (i.e. ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600), minimum excerpt equals 1/4000 s., excerpt synchronization 1/200 sec. When Highlight Priority is enabled, the ISO range becomes 200 to 1600. The AUTO-ISO function works in the range of 100-800 units with the ability to use an ISO step equal to 1/3 stop (i.e. the function can automatically set additional values of 125, 160, 250, 320, 500, 640 units).

My experience

Canon 450D is the cheapest DSLR camera with support for full Live View, which is very important for working with manual optics. At one time I bought a used Canon 450D for only $ 80.

I really like that in JPEG L format with reduced quality frame buffer becomes very large, and burst shooting even with a slow memory card can last indefinitely (until the memory card is full or until the battery runs out). This property allows you to shoot as many frames as you like using burst shooting using focus bracketing with manual lenses. The battery capacity is enough for 4000 (!) Frames while shooting with a manual lens in JPEG L. I take as many frames on the Canon 450D as I see fit and never (never!) worry about the wear of the shutter, this makes shooting with complete pleasure.

14-bit RAW files weigh up to 25 MB and they can be pulled out quite a lot. The native Canon DPP utility works quite quickly with 12 MP snapshots even on weak computers. Unfortunately, the noise level at ISO above 400 units wants better, however, in general, at ISO 100-200, the quality of the pictures is decent even for our time.

The pixel density of the Canon 450D is about the same as that of Canon 5D Mark IV and is a balanced solution for a cropped camera.

I recommend the Canon 450D to many amateur photographers who are looking for the cheapest and most functional camera, especially if shooting video is not important.

Comments: 114, on the topic: Note on the Canon EOS 450D

  • Andrei

It is a pity that Nikon's 2010-year. there is no such a full-fledged LiveView - the shutter rumbles sho said, which settings in the camera do not set :(

    • Arkady Shapoval

Come on, in 2008 there was a D90, in 2009 - a D5000, in 2010 - a D3100, normal noise, not much louder than the same 450th. At the same time, the piercing whistle from the shutter / mirror for some Canon (as an example - the same 450), on the contrary, is more worrisome.

      • Andrei

Normal, but still noise. I understand that the 450D in the LiveView series does silently: the shutter (mechanical) is motionless.

        • Arkady Shapoval

Why is this? Silently, this is when the electronic shutter.

          • Andrei

Apparently, I’m not correctly interpreting your statement that you never (!) Worry about shutter wear when shooting on 450D and shooting a series in LiveView.
The IMHO module does not wear out when, with any functions, it remains stationary. Or how? :(

            • Arkady Shapoval

I'm not worried, since the camera costs $ 80, and in general, you shouldn't worry about the shutter, as many who ask me do. And it is said in the context of the fact that I shoot a lot.

              • Andrei

Clear. I really thought that you dug up an undocumented opportunity in the old Canon: an electronic shutter. :)

              • Arkady Shapoval

I would indicate this explicitly. So you can come up with anything. For example, there is a Video Out port, and in the “TV-standard” menu, so now Anonymous will come running and ask how to shoot video with him, because there are video functions :)

    • Jacks

In LiveViw on this camera, the first shutter curtain does not lower the mirror, I checked it at slow shutter speeds. The battery is very capacious, a fully occupied 16 GB SD card, in RAW + JPEG format, and three charge sticks)))

  • Igor_K

Great review! Tests are just SUPER! A living example of the fact that it is not at all important what you shoot, but something else is important - where your hands grow from! Cheap Chinese glass + “anachronism” for 2000 UAH + Head + Experience = Masterpiece! Bravo, Arkady! An excellent review, a very correct idea is expressed in it, in full accordance with the "Theory of marginal utility", in other words: why buy "D4" if you need a "subject" for an online store every day to thresh hundreds of frames? “D70” copes with this very well. One thing is bad - after a review with such examples, prices for Canon 450D and YONGNUO LENS EF 50mm 1: 1.8 on OLX will rise sharply, and the devices themselves can generally go into the category of "cult" and "legendary"

    • Arkady Shapoval

May they not rise and become cult. All are zombified 24 megapixels on crop and 50 megapixels on full frame (and this is not bad, it just happened).
On d70 and fifty dollars I also have a gallery here.

      • Michael

On the d70, color tones look juicier and livelier than on the eos 450.

        • anonym

          but Canon’s skinton is better

          • KalekseyG

            Well, prove it, show it.

      • Igor_K

Very beautiful, especially the cat’s eyes and the thicket with a twig in the foreground and amid light rays, were impressive!

    • Evgeny_d5000

Why anachronism, nothing fundamentally new has appeared. An anachronism can be called the Canon d30 / d60, the picture is noticeably weaker there. Actually, so much so that they did not come across to Arkady for so many years.

  • anonym

    I wanted to buy.

    • Vlad.UA

And here I am, I wanted to sell. These shots are a bit not entirely honest. Reduced by half. If you give yourself the trouble to see full-sized footage from 450th then your opinion may not remain the same. Nevertheless, it is a perfectly suitable machine.
But ... There are not so many pictures with the "Wow" effect. Although. perhaps I am too strict. Nevertheless, in the review of the pros: price, pixel density ... and that's it.
Yes, there is a life view, but the ceiling set by this camera is a bit low. Noises will spoil your mood. The dynamic range is frankly small: the middle row, the third picture from the bottom - how flat the branches look, for example. but the flowers are normal. Perhaps the fact that I'm writing this after editing a photo and reading a review on Nikon Df (it's like gooseberries after honey ...) makes me a little more skeptical than I should, but facts are facts.
The device is quite suitable for itself. But he does not forgive much. Alas ... And if you treat the restrictions carefully, then with whale optics you will be able to please yourself and everyone, everyone, everyone. ))) IMHO.

      • a guest

Well, the quality is ok in my opinion. With devices up to 60d, I did not notice any difference, I have not tried newer ones, I can only judge by the reviews. Actually, it is acutely felt when switching from 10 bits of matrices to 14 and when switching to crop-ff. And since there have been improvements over the years, this can be noticed, but not outright epic. Here the processing speed has increased, for many years the XX series Canon could not catch up with 40d in serial shooting, for example, and now they have already surpassed at a higher resolution of the matrices. There is also progress in noise with high sensitivity, but all the same, all the crops at 1600 are already pretty noisy. With a limited budget and for commercial filming, 450d will do. In it, only one annoying feature was in Live View - a dark image in M mode, either with a proprietary lens or with manual ones. It was normal in the software. The firmware did not solve anything, so in all versions. Well, there is a chance that my copy was only like that.

  • Vadyukhin

Autofocus in live view? Tytskal in "*" ... did not work :( It did not work with the lenses Canon 18-200 and Canon 50-1: 1,8 ...

    • Arkady Shapoval

The C.FnIII 8/2 function must be enabled (as shown).

      • Vadyukhin

        OU! Thanks! It all worked!

  • dragon yes not snape

Here's a “cheap Chinese glass”! Years! Take it!

  • Evgeny_d5000

Thank you, Arkady, for popularizing photography. It will be useful for an uninformed person to find out how much a set can cost to enjoy the picture and what is more interesting to buy an "ancient" DSLR than a new ultrazoom

    • Michael

Although it is ancient, it is good, as it turned out after 9 years. I had one, after it the 70D toad did not allow to buy because the picture quality is not better

  • Charles

You can shoot videos on the 450D yourself, for example, using a laptop with EOS Camera Movie Record installed.

  • Peter

You write-14-bit RAW files weigh up to 25 MB, now I checked them, they weigh up to 15 MB, how can I explain this? And the device is certainly not bad ...

    • Arkady Shapoval

up to 25 mb does not mean that they will weigh exactly 25. If you shoot a motley frame (a bunch of details) at a high ISO, it will be more than 20 mb, I saw 25 mb. Why different size - because compression is used.

      • shmosby

Arkady, do you have the focus on the machine, do you manually or through Photoshop blur it?

        • Arkady Shapoval

I love autofocus, everything else is a matter of the optics and the plot.

  • AL

It should be added that the 450D is a good street camera with a relatively hidden shooting option. For this there is a mode “take several frames in a row” with a delay of several seconds.

Just hang the camera on your belly or hold it in your hand and just point it in the right direction with the diaphragm closed. Amid ambient noise, the shutter sound is not heard.

    • Archie

      Little rascal.

  • karen

Excellent camera, acquired it after the Canon 40D. Attracted by size and weight (almost one and a half times lighter than 40D). With a 40mm \ 2,8 pancake, it’s just perfect for street photography. This photo was taken by Canon 450D with a 40mm lens.

    • anonym

Yes, you still find a pancake with 3.5 and hang it on 10d ... This is where oil paintings will go without looking!

      • Vania

        Your essence

      • Vania

The essence of your claim (or humor?) Is completely incomprehensible.
Pancake 40mm is generally one of the coolest lenses, and with an amateur small body it acquires a very attractive compactness.

        • Oleg

And this kid is able to cover a full frame

        • Anonymous (other)

But what then, if such the coolest lens, the background is so weakly blurred that as much as the door handle begins to callou the eyes? Why is the bokeh weird (tends to bubble)? Why, being neither a high-aperture nor a telephoto lens, does it have such serious aberrations (freezing)?

          • Oleg

No one wrote that he was the coolest. For bokeshki 50 \ 1.8 or 85 \ 1.8 it will be better, but with the kids in the park the most walk

          • Vania

Blurring the background is generally a very specific and unimportant (well, I'm talking for myself, of course) parameter. And the doorknob is an eyesore, excuse me, because of such a composition in the picture, isn't it obvious?
I won't say anything about bokeh - I'm not a fan of it, I am attracted to photography by something completely different, so this is not an argument.
Friging is quite moderate, although there is not much. Why - this is for optical engineers.

You probably interpreted my words “one of the coolest lenses” as a comparison with elks and Zeiss, right? Of course, I meant the price / quality ratio.
            Lens:
            1. very sharp open,
            2. with the correct geometry (the distortion is completely insignificant),
            3. good color,
            4. accurate and reliable focus (sometimes I shoot without looking into the viewfinder, aiming approximately, and the focus fails),
            5. virtually no variation in quality from copy to copy.
            6. And it stands on a flea market 7-8 tyrov.
For me, this is one of the coolest lenses, the arguments above.
By the way, there was an opportunity to compare with 50 1.4 USM, forty turned out to be cooler in almost everything (in 50, perhaps, the color is a little “different”, more interesting, but this is a very weak argument for, and 4 times lighter, but with modern matrices ( up to ISO 3200 easy) this is not very relevant)

            • Anonymous (other)

Yes, that's exactly what he interpreted, but how else to perceive such a statement? And it should have been - "one of the most profitable acquisitions."

By the way, when compared with 35 / 1.8 DX for about the same price, Nikon glass:
              - faster by more than one stop
              - bokeh is not sharp, but rather smooth, creamy.
              - on your crop - this is a classic fifty-kopeck piece, not an incomprehensible 64 mm.
              - heavier and more overall, but at the same time does not cover the full frame (well, almost): (If you sprinkle along the vignette - the same 40 mm and you get about.
              - also complete order with color, geometry, sharpness, focus and workmanship.

              • Vania

Yes, I had to express myself more correctly, well, let it be so, your wording is quite suitable. I have not tried 35, but he has one global flaw, which for me completely negates all its advantages: he will not fit into Canon.
                About your arguments:
                1. Still, a little more expensive, but not the point
                2. About bokeh - no comments, I don't understand anything about it, it doesn't matter to me.
                3. I love my 64 EGFs - the most convenient thing I've tried. EGF 45 are also very good, but 50 somehow did not take root for me - it is inconvenient, although it would seem that it is not far from 45.
                4. Heavier and larger - yes, these are disadvantages, it's obvious here. About sprinkle, it's on ff, you mean? It seems to me that the edges, in some cases, will still be bad.
                5. I will cling to geometry - it is she who is lame in 35. The lines are very curved, which is rather strange for a standard lens. This is critical for me. I couldn't use 24 2.8 stm precisely because of the geometry - the lines at the edges of the frame are very oppressive, and 40 is perfect, well, in my eyes.

You see, we evaluate lenses on the basis of different criteria, for you and I, the different sides of the process and the result are important, and therefore the different ratings are the same. I can understand you, and I can understand why you think 40 is stupid, but I think you can understand me too: for me it is an almost perfect tool for every day, I can’t find another one for even 3-4 times big money.

              • Anonymous (other)

The lines are a little (!) Crooked, but straightened completely at once by the corrector built into the photo, so I don’t even notice.
Crop, of course, with FF, in many cases the vignette is not observed at all, Arkady has a whole article on this subject, with examples. But at infinity - the vignetting is maximum, so I propose to sprinkle it.

I fully admit that 64 mm can be convenient in some cases. But I do not agree with the person above that this is ideal for the street, just like the fact that they should photograph portraits larger than "tall"

              • Anonymous (other)

                *camera

              • Vania

Well, it is still noticeably crooked (in general, I often notice this with Nikons, probably I am mistaken on a whim). This is unacceptable for me: my camera is old, without built-in enhancements, it is important for me that the lens is good with “glass”, and not after processing. I don’t correct the photos on my computer - I’m lazy. Therefore, 35 would not suit me.
Well, for me it's really perfect for a street - proven by experience.
For portraits, yes, an unusable lens: it has too sharp and micro-contrast at 2.8 - you can see all the skin and that's not cool, and then blur on your computer - fi, I'm too lazy for that.

            • Anonymous (other)

Regarding the bokeh - look at this photo, Canon 6D 40 / 2.8, especially the faces and eyes of the people depicted and tell me that you didn't get goosebumps from the sinister eyes. And I love / dislike - this is beside the point.

              • Vania

Well, let's say, I realized what you want to say, but the goosebumps did not creep. Yes, it would not matter to me how exactly the eyes of the people in this photo are blurred, even so, even more creamy. For this photo, this, in my opinion, is immaterial.
I love / dislike only business and can relate, but what else? I love the smooth geometry, sharpness, color and stable focus, you, if I understand correctly, a beautiful picture of the lens, including smoothness in the bokeh, high aperture.
Of course, I was mistaken, because I extrapolated from incomplete data, but the point is that love / dislike affects what tools we choose and how we evaluate the results. What else?

              • Anonymous (other)

About love / dislike - this is me in relation to bokeh, I explain:
One way or another, the photographer, if he does not take landscapes on a soap box, will have to deal with images in focus and out of focus. And sometimes, as in my example, an out-of-focus image can behave in a somewhat strange and even frightening way, unpleasant and unusual to the eye. That is, you can not like / appreciate / understand the blurry background in a photo in a special way, but still it’s better to try to avoid such effects, in my opinion.
Of course, this does not mean that you urgently need to sell / throw away such a lens, you just need to make a note for yourself that he can’t cope with such situations. And either put another one in this case or change the composition of the picture so that it does not catch the eye.
It's the same with that handle at the top. Well, this lens is simply not capable of blurring the background, for example, 105 / 1.4 due to its design, and therefore you need to either change the composition so that this handle does not interfere later, or, if you need just such a frame, take a lens that can handle it, which will wash this pen into smoke simply.

              • Vania

Yes, absolutely right, I agree with your every word!
I will add that the sphere of the photographer's activity and his style are very influential: for someone, something will be a strong minus, but something will not be strong, for another - on the contrary.
And by the way, I doubt that 105 / 1.4 could wash this pen into smoke, for three very strong reasons:
                1. I do not presume to judge, but I will assume that 105 / 1.4 is significantly more expensive than 40 / 2.8, and, therefore, it is more difficult for an ordinary amateur to get into a photo bag than 40 / 2.8, which means it will be much more difficult to reach the door handle 105 / 1.4 than 40 / 2.8.
                2. I can assume that this room would not have enough space for 105 / 1.4 to build the same frame.
                3. Even so, then, besides the pen in the smoke, the tip of the nose and ears with earrings would get into the mess, which, for my taste, is simply disgusting for the portrait and characterizes the photographer as a layman.

Yes, of course, it could have been not 105 / 1.4, but 50 / 1.4, but ... there would have been a huge bunch of HA and freezing, and, again, perhaps the 3rd point would also have worked.
So: xs, another composition to achieve beauty here would be essential, just at times, easier than replacing the lens.

              • Karen

Firstly, it was not a portrait session, just took a camera with a 40mm pancake and took a picture. Secondly, 100-105mm for a room a little more than 20m is a lot, even with 85mm it is not so simple. I wrote about the camera, which is mainly used everyday with a 40mm pancake. Here are a couple of pictures taken with a 450D 40mm lens. And for portraits I use 85mm 1,8

Acquires and gives. Gives and gets. Still, I would have fed ... Go to school and do not make people laugh.

        • Karen

For me, a 40mm pancake is my most used lens, before that it was 35mm, 1: 2, but it's sharp only from 2,4 - 2,8 and at the same time not as sharp as 40mm by 2,8, extra 5mm focal large role do not play. Here is another photo taken 40mm in a car, about one meter away

Background blur, bokeh. They got it ... They will drag the bride to the devil in the middle of nowhere, and then arrange the blur. Why lead if you can blur everywhere. Pick the right background for fun. And I use blur if I need to hide something. So that's it.

    • Boris

Blurring the background is not masking its flaws. Also, the translation into b / w is not a fight against bad light and color. Only bad photographers think that the background should be blurred to hide the trash heap behind. The normal photographer understands that this is a creative trick and knows when to achieve strong blur and when blur is not required. If you, in principle, do not tolerate a blurred background, then, forgive me, you simply do not understand the essence and methods of photography.

      • anonym

Yes you? No blurry background - no essence of the photo? How can you live without bokeshka?

      • anonym

Yes you? No blur - no essence in photography? How can you live without bokeshka?

        • Boris

I did not write that blur is the essence of photography. Blurring is one of the methods that help uncover this genre. And the task of this method is by no means a disguise of garbage cans from behind. Blurring plans allow you to clearly focus on the subject. Think about it.

          • Michael

This is just ONE OF many emphasis techniques with a fairly narrow scope. And the lack of a blurry background in the frame is absolutely no reason for criticism.

    Hi all!
I bought this camera, I want to pick up a lens for it.
I like a thing like macro and I would like to take a picture of nature.
But everything is not boom-boom, but there is a desire to learn for a hobby.
If it doesn’t complicate, tell me what lenses can be bought for it to suit my needs (maybe old models, used). Since there is no money for expensive ones.
I understand that I want a lot without investments, but for starters, maybe something can come up with?
Also tell me what you can read to understand more photos.
Thank you in advance for your answers!

    • Alik

take fmks with an FD mount and an adapter to it.

      • Rodion

Yeah, cool advice. Take such a lens, do not have infinity with it, or suffer with a lens.

        • Michael

It’s quite normal. Comrade macro is going to engage. See him infinity?

  • Alik

The camera is suitable, but there are two but.
    1) do not use a regular zoom lens, it is better to take a carcass + fix.
    2) edit pictures, white balance. Traditionally, the canon is blue.
if the little things, it annoys the lack of a rotary screen., the inability to understand how many frames were made when buying a bu, as well as the lack of bluetooth (allows you to use a smartphone as a remote control)

    • Alik

I'll add more. I do not know about other cameras, probably the same. but there is a big difference in background blur in aperture mode and shutter lag. in the first version, it is blurred by circles, in the second, it acquires a watercolor look, and it is not possible to combine the two modes (in "M"), since the exposure meter begins to darken, which cannot be adjusted in any way))

      • BB

You should read the theory before writing ...

    • Hyc

      > Traditionally canon synivit.

It depends on the glass. With some Soviet on ABB yellow currents in the way. Depends on enlightenment.

  • Michael

Thank you for the review, but in my room with a flash the color is lilac and cannot be dealt with in one editor. Tell me please. Regards, Mikhail.

  • Eugene

It is better then to take 1100D for this money, the pixel is the same, the matrix is more modern - there is less noise

    • Victor

Who told you that the matrix in 1100 is more modern?

  • Dmitriy

Good day. Does metering with manual work in it?

    • Michael

Yes, it works in all canons

  • Yura

    Arkadiyu, but say that:
Knowing the Nikon d40, I’m staring at the 'self-timer', I need to adjust the skin shutter release. (ymovirno, virobniki mali for such a setting is the reason).
Tell me, but in the Canon 450d, is it also such non-engagement, but still, do you take the shutter release settings off? (For example, knowing seriya іz a self-timer, i, even if required, zminіv)?

    • Michael

As far as I remember, no. The timer works until you turn off the handles. It's strange that D40 is not so ...

The list of cameras that can be controlled remotely from a computer:
    Canon EOS:
    40D, 50D, 60D, 70D, 100D, 200D;
    450D, 500D, 550D, 600D, 650D, 700D, 750D;
    1000D, 1100D, 1200D, 1300D, 2000D, 4000D.

  • Nikita

    Hello!
Thanks for your review. I own such a machine, I rummaged through all the topics, I can not find the answer to my question. Photos are wildly dark. -3 / -2 on the metering with the maximum aperture open (I have it 3.5) and shutter speed 1/60. If you raise the ISO to a maximum of 1600, it seems like you can live, exp at -1, but the noise simply destroys the photo. An ordinary, not very lit room - a chandelier and a floor lamp. At the same time, on the street on a bright day or if you put the light on, the camera takes off well.
The next question is - if you take a picture under these conditions, do you need to take a 650D or buy a fast lens on the 450D and use flashes?

    • Michael

Use a flash (or high-aperture lens). Also, this camera was supplied with a lens with a stabilizer - accordingly, you can increase the shutter speed (by 1/15 18-55 seemed to shoot well). Buying a camera won't solve the problem

    • Roman

Well, or take a softbox and put mercury lamps in it. Studio photography requires a lot of light.

    • BB

There is no magic, increase the exposure: more light / wider aperture / slower shutter speed (+ tripod if the subject is stationary).
Buying a camera with, say, working ISO 6400 will "brighten" the picture by only 4 times (compared to ISO 1600), but will not solve your problem

  • Michael

Good afternoon. Dear Arkady, I had a canon of 450 d, changed to a canon of 6 d. The same problem is the hair in the models, often not natural, redder than they should be. See and YOU have the same model and the same optics, but the hair is different with a redhead from the left. The question is how to deal with this. And which Kenon models work correctly with color, Regards Michael

    • Dmitry (e_dimas)

      Welcome.
The color of the models, or their hair, is not affected by the camera, but by the light source, and surfaces reflecting light (green grass, yellow leaves, blue sky, etc.) also affect. If you shoot in RAW, the converter affects the color, DPP transfers the color most correctly.
And yet, Canon digital SLR cameras, regardless of model and year of manufacture, give an almost identical picture in color.

  • Sergos

you mention focus bracketing on the 450d — can you get more details?

    • Michael

There is no focus bracketing there. Only exposure and bb

      • Igor

Author's words .. "This property allows you to shoot as many frames as you want using continuous shooting using focus bracketing with manual lenses." So you still have it? Or where is the serial shooting here then?

        • Arkady Shapoval

After all, bracketing can be done manually, this is what we are talking about here. Moreover, it is indicated that with manual lenses, which the camera cannot control in terms of focus :)

          • Igor

Indeed, as the manual can automatically change focus) Miracle apparently wanted) I apologize and agree. Today I took the package from 450d, went through the settings, well, there is no focus bracketing) I went to drown .. changed my mind, and went here to leave a comment) The camera as a whole is decent and interesting, it’s more convenient in the hand than 1000d and 1100d, the pictures delight the amateur eye. Arkady, thanks for the experience, excellent presentation of information and feedback. Success, goodness and health!

            • Michael

The camera is really good, for many years she shot

            • Igor

I'll add one more difference from 1000d. The 450's center focus point is really more accurate with bright lenses at aperture of 2 - 2,5. This is very noticeable! The autofocus YN 35 f2 focuses more confidently, the percentage of blur has almost disappeared. And the manual Helios 44 - 2 with the focus confirmation ring (without adjustment) became accurate. Confirmation of focus (which, I must admit, I scored on 1000d, since I walked in all directions of the world and tuned in on the screen) worked as it should on this miracle! So the author's words about the center point are 100% correct.

    • Michael

it's just a reception, all handles

  • Sergei

Hello. Tell me, is it worth taking 450D today? And if the mileage is about 30 thousand frames?

    • B. R. P.

Depends on what kind of shooting.

      • Sergei

Amateur. Landscape, portrait, flowers. I would like a little better detail than in the phone

        • Michael

Under the landscape it may not be very, although it depends more on the lens. So the device is good, like in general everything released last 10 years) The detail will be higher than that of the phone (but here again, looking to compare)

    • Alik

the camera is good. take boo will run for a long time. the only thing that I would advise to dig for a 90mm lens. standard zoom is completely useless

  • Alik

good cameras, I took it now in 2020 and the mileage is approaching 80000 clicks. as all canons have a slight tendency to blue in the pictures, but easily gets better. I took a mirror specifically to shoot painting. this is a very specific direction and probably cameras with a price of 100.000 can cope with it with a bang, but I had something that would be like if I adapt and from this camera you can also get an acceptable quality)))

    • Alexey

there is no tendency to blue in working kenon cameras. Nikon has such a feature. and even then, if you shoot in JPEG

  • Matthew

I have a question for Arkady, I understand that both cameras are already very old, but still, which is better to take Canon 350D or Canon450D? I am an amateur, I shoot only for myself. Shooting plots, approximately as in the above photos. Which one will give the best picture?

    • Novel

450D, of course. There, RAVK has 14 bits, it will be better to stretch. Plus the screen is much better, plus there are more focusing points and the focusing itself is better.

      • Matthew

        Thanks for the good advice!

    • Victor

Considering that the question is being asked in 2021, you can take two at once, for delivery from a bunch of onions and compare yourself. How do you like the option?

      • Matthew

I don't need 2, one for the eyes is enough for me. As for the fact that this is happening in 2021, I have no extra money, they were in 1997, but then for some reason you did not advise me anything))) I am an old pepper working for a penny and I can not afford everything)) And the camera you just need to familiarize yourself well and train for inexpensive. All good!

        • Victor

So these two cameras can be taken for 4000r. Both.

        • twm

          > to get acquainted well and to practice
Matvey, keep in mind an important point: the complete zoom lenses of both the 350d and the 450d are (very) mediocre. In my opinion, the worst in comparison with competitors from Nikon, Pentax and even Sony.

If you don’t have any decent EF / EF-S “glass” on hand, taking such old carcasses will quickly lose enthusiasm. And so, in terms of ergonomics (usability), I like the 350th better. But - the 450th wins over him in terms of technical equipment. And you can extract more information from the RAW files of the latter, Roman has already said about this.

Canon 50d is head and shoulders above both. Meet for sane money (~ $ 60) - feel free to buy.

    • twm

      > Shooting plots, approximately as in the above photos
If you like a portrait (+ flowers) - immediately save up for the Yongnuo specified by Arkady (or the original Canon EF 50mm f / 1.8). Canon's supplied zoom lenses are only suitable for wide-angle landscapes.
