According provided by Lens MS RUBINAR 5,6 / 500 MACRO Many thanks to Pavel Gorokhovsky. I had this lens for a month, unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to release a review faster. Thanks to Paul for his patience and trust.
In short
MC RUBINAR 5,6 / 500 MACRO is a classic mirrored lens. It attracts with not the worst relative aperture for this class of 1: 5.6 and good macro shooting capability (maximum magnification ratio is 1: 4). The image quality is not impressive, but remains at a bearable level for amateur photography.

MC RUBINAR 5,6 / 500 MACRO - large and weighty.
The focus ring on the copy from my review has a noticeable backlash. The ring is very wide with a large wide rubberized insert. The focus ring rotates 345 degrees. During focusing, the front of the body rim extends approximately 1.5 cm forward. During focusing, the front of the body rim rotates. MC RUBINAR 5,6 / 500 MACRO uses huge filters with a diameter of 105 mm (see their view).
The lens comes with a large metal screw hood (with a red stripe, like lenses Canon l) With a lens hood, the lens looks irresistible. The front cover without latches, just snugly against the lens, has a special sealing fabric on the inner surface.
MC RUBINAR 5,6 / 500 MACRO has a tripod ring and a tripod foot. The tripod ring can freely rotate around the lens, in certain positions (a total of 8 pieces) a characteristic click is heard. The ring is fixed with a special clamping screw. The ring is fixed, easy to operate.
Sample photos and image quality
In general, the image quality of the MS RUBINAR 5,6 / 500 MACRO is similar to inexpensive mirror lenses. MC RUBINAR 5,6 / 500 MACRO does not suffer from distortion and chromatic aberrations, but the resolution is rather weak. Nevertheless, with the MS RUBINAR 5,6 / 500 MACRO is quite suitable for amateur photography. A characteristic feature of these lenses is the bokeh in the form of rings (bagels). If you try to pick up the background, then the rings in the bokeh are almost invisible.
Sample photos from a digital SLR camera Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi, adapter M42-Canon EOS и macro ring M42 23 mm thick. Photos shown without processing. It is best to take pictures without grease when shooting with hands at shutter speeds shorter than 1/500 s.

How to use with modern cameras?
Lenses with mounting thread M42 (M42 X 1 / 45.5), such as the lens from this review, are very easy to use on almost any modern digital camera (both SLR and mirrorless), for this it is enough to choose the right adapter (adapter). You do not need to carry out any additional steps to modify the lens.
The cheapest adapters can be found aliexpress.com... There are adapters (adapters) with a chip that provide more convenience during shooting, usually chips are used to confirm focus and / or metering exposure, and form the correct EXIF. The chip does not affect the image quality in any way.
For some SLR cameras (for example, Nikon F) it is necessary to use adapters with a corrective lens, which allows correct focusing at all focusing distances. For any mirrorless camera, such a lens is not needed, and the adapter is a simple decorated hollow metal tube with an appropriate mount.
For SLR cameras
- Canon: For cameras Canon EOS with bayonet mount EF / EF-S need an M42-Canon EOS adapter, such an adapter with a chip can be found herewithout chip here.

If you have any questions on compatibility and adapters - ask in the comments (comments do not require any registration at all).
Important: Please note that this lens cannot be mounted on SLR cameras without using an optional macro ring M42, MC RUBINAR 5,6 / 500 MACRO rests against the protrusion of the built-in flash (for cameras without a built-in flash - into the so-called 'nose' with the brand inscription). When using the macro ring (it is also an extension ring), focusing at infinity will be maintained, since the focusing ring has a small infinity flight. I used a 23mm macro tube with a DSLR to create the view. Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi and adapter M42-Canon EOS. Cheapest metal extension rings available here.

Uterus Boska!
Myan turbuyu, and not evil swearing ?!
Class, I was waiting for an overview of this glass!
The brightness of the image, the sprout is different, the contrast is in contrast, not in Radiansky analogs. Tobto the current Russian product is good for SRSRivska.Pichalka.
Well, let's start with the fact that the products are far from today, but made in 94, judging by the serial. At that time, in general, everything was done somehow. And the old MTO-500 was more interesting in design ... well, it was one step darker, which explains a lot
Translation: “The image quality, in particular the resolution and contrast, is worse than that of the Soviet counterparts. That is, modern Russian products are worse than Soviet ones. Sadness. "
Answer: 1994 in which this “Rubinar” was produced is 23 years ago, and this is far from being “modern products”. In addition, this period is called the “collapse of the USSR”.
High-aperture lenses (and for a focal length of 500 mm - this is a fast lens), neither in those years, nor even now, did not stand out in contrast. They stood out for their luminosity.
He has not a lot of analogues of the same size, and better than nowhere else in the world, perhaps, nothing is for sale. (Oh, this USSR and the Russian Federation)
So really - sadness.
Arkady, please tell me which lens, in your opinion, has the best picture quality: Rubinar 5.6 / 500 or https://radojuva.com/2016/03/samyang-mc-mirror-lens-500mm/ ?
The rubyar is definitely better
A shot with an airplane: I know that on more modern Nikons such as D810 | D750, the IR filter is removed from the matrix, which makes the picture brighter (with less sun shroud) ... It's interesting, but if you find a good “polar” on it, you will be able to achieve similar effect?
Probably, after all, it was not the IR that was removed, but the Anti-aliasing filter (LPF).
The Chinese, by the way, make polar people for him!
Polarians, in the sense, with a 105 × 1 thread - under the "Rubinar 5,6 / 500".
A matrix with a normal resolution of 15-20 megapixels is quite enough for him, and here the low-pass filter will not affect.
When shooting against the light, and in general, the hood helps with the veil. And the lenses (and / or UV protection filter) must be clean, and preferably not scratched. But lenses all give a "veil" against the light, and especially such.
It is necessary to remove the veil in the editor. Sharp. The HF is stronger. In general, this should be done with “EVIL” in any case, but only with “straight hands”. It takes a little experience here. It's not hard to make her invisible at all.
Or just shoot contrasting pictures in sunny weather - there will be no veil either.
A kind of small telescope. Central shielding is a bit big. If you take it into account, then the real aperture is approximately F / 6.6
Yes, a telescope. Yes, CE is too big. The real aperture ratio, as the author correctly indicated in the table, is T / 8 +.
The relative aperture f / 5,6 is used to calculate the depth of field, f / 8 for exposure.
These worlds have interesting bokeh bagels, the middle is reflected.
The old ones are reflected, the “modern” ones have a black cork in front.
Another pipe. I didn’t even know that such buckets still exist, they all thought for a long time in scrap. Burning!
The war did not beat all patients.
EVIL is specific, its bagels are not to everyone's taste. Human portraits did not like at all precisely because of the background, but the bird's (especially the crow on the pillar) is very nice. But, in any case, this piece of iron can only be indulged a couple of times in good weather.
Cool!
A beautiful drawing, has the right to life
Good article. Nothing superfluous, all the most important points were touched upon, and at the same time, the author did not tear apart other people's materials, although it is clear that he is acquainted with them;)
PS It seems Alexander Adashkevich drew a diagram of the lens.
The gallery of photographs taken with the lens from the review also pleased.
Minolta 500/8 MD contrast at times and will be sharper, and bagels are not very intrusive. I won’t say anything about autofocus, I haven’t tried
...
And there is a lens with "bubbles" but not 500mm but for example 35-50mm?
Happens with “bubbles”. Domiplan, Primoplan, Trioplan.
The lens is used in work when it is necessary to photograph the elements of freight cars without going out on the track. Compact, lightweight, gives an image with very good detail. Used in tandem with Canon 5D.
