Radozhiv already has a review of a newer version of this lens - Samyang 8mm 1: 3.5 UMC FISH-EYE CS II Aspherical NI. In this review, I will indicate only the main differences between the versions.

For Nikon SLR cameras, there are three similar models (their names are indicated according to the inscriptions on the case of the corresponding lens):

  1. Samyang 8mm 1: 3.5 Fish-EYE CS Aspherical NI
  2. Samyang AE 8mm 1: 3.5 Fish-EYE CS Aspherical NI, version from the review (differs from the previous version only in the presence of a chip with CPU contacts)
  3. Samyang 8mm 1: 3.5 UMC FISH-EYE CS II Aspherical ni

Differences between versions of Samyang AE 8mm 1: 3.5 Fish-EYE CS (from this review) and Samyang 8mm 1: 3.5 UMC FISH-EYE CS II (updated version):

  • The CS version is older than the CS II. The CS version was launched in 2009, CS II in 2012.
  • The CS II version has improved clarity. The abbreviation 'UMC' (Ultra Multi Coating) has been added to the name - an ultra-multi-coated lens. The box from the CS version has the inscription 'Multi-Coated', which indicates a simpler enlightenment than UMC.
  • The CS version uses a built-in non-removable hood. The CS II hood is removable, which allows the CS II to be used on full-frame cameras as a circular Fish-Eye lens.
  • CS II version has a different layout of the focus distance scale, while the focus ring of both versions rotates at the same angle.
  • The CS II version got a slightly different case design.
  • The CS II version does not have the 'AE' lettering on its body. At the same time, the CS II still has a microprocessor.
  • It is stated that the CS II version has been modified optically. Perhaps there are other minor differences.

Versions CS II and CS can be easily distinguished by the color of the decorative ring (yellow for the old version and red for the new). The optical design of both lenses is the same, however, they say that the second version is optically much better than the first. I did not feel any particular difference, most likely, these lenses were constantly being modified and refined during the production of new copies at the factory.

Note! These lenses are sold under various names such as Pro-Optic, Rokinon, Bower, etc. In the manual for the Samyang AE 8mm 1: 3.5 Fish-EYE CS Aspherical NI lens, it is named '8mm F3.5 FiSH-EYE CS (AE)', most likely in order to have the same instructions for lenses with different names.

Will there be a Pentax review too?

  • StudioRAK

      Cool!

And the review, as always, and the level of the lens. Thanks.

Why are the ceilings under the sky painted in all markets ……

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Such a trend.

      • anonym

        Why such a trend ..? :)

        • Oleg

          Because it ends in U.

        • Lynx

Because there’s not enough imagination for another

  • B2B

Most fisheye lenses cheat, and push objects closer together at the edges of the image. I find this makes the edges fairly useless, since everything gets so squashed.

  • Ek

This defect is easily corrected in lightroom

  • ULADZIMIR

I agree, but I think it's a bad practice: take a shoot with a fish-eye lens then reduce their aberrations. In my humble opinion, fish-eye made for this unique aberations.

Given how they mow (the scales are knocked down), then it does not cost that much. Krivoruky Koreans and then messed up. Optically, it is canceled, but as assembled, tear off your hands.

For a couple of lunch breaks, this sore is cured. Even without scrap and some kind of mother :)

Colleagues! I'm looking for a 8mm boo offered by opteka 6.5mm CS, do not tell me which samyang - the first version or the second. It seems like the first one, but the hood is removable.

  • Novel

Thanks for the review. On occasion, I acquired the CS version, an almost-unused lens for 120 euros, so far I am satisfied. For a long time I was looking for a decent decent fish for a reasonable price.

On Nikon d300s, the aperture value is shown as a delta between maximum and minimum. Is that how it should be? Or somewhere ...

    • Michael

Somewhere. Clamp the diaphragm to a minimum, then there will be control from the camera.

  • Sergei

This does not work on this lens. It turns out that it can only be used in manual mode

    • Jury

in some cameras, you can select from the menu - control the aperture from the camera or the ring on the lens. Look closely at the settings in the camera.

    • Michael

There seems to be a ledge under the rheostat. So there should be an automatic mode. Arkady wrote in the review that it works ... HZ could be wrong

  • Victor S.

I doubt something - if the lens captures 180 degrees, then the lens hood doesn't get into the frame.

    • Michael

This is a diagonal fisheye, not a circular one, so all the rules

  • Nicholas

hello Arkady, so did you see the difference between the first and second versions, which one or didn’t you see at all? It’s just that you asked if you can take the 2 versions and it’s a bit more expensive or almost the new first version and cheaper !?

    • Bingo

Hello! Which one did you end up buying? I also don’t understand if there is a real difference other than the price ...

  • Victor

Good day to all! Tell me what kind of beast kowa 8 mm f 1.2 C-mount! And he will be on nikon d 7000.

    • Michael

Do not get up, because C-mount. Short working distance and small spot covering the frame

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Cinema, will not

  • Firear

I wonder if anyone has an opt-in for shooting Nikon D90 with this eye? Share your impressions. Pzhlsta ...
