Review (+ video, + examples on rare lenses) of Nikon’s TOP film SLR camera - Nikon F6

According provided by huge Nikon F6 camera thanks to the store www.fotika.com.uawhere you can find a huge number of different used photographic equipment, including similar cameras.

I do not review film cameras, Nikon F6 (from this review) and Nikon AF N8008s are exceptions.

Briefly about Nikon F6

Nikon F6 is the sixth generation of professional film cameras. The first cameras in this series date back to 1959 and are updated approximately every 8 years:

  • Nikon F - 1959
  • Nikon F2 - 1971
  • Nikon F3 - 1980
  • Nikon F4 - 1988
  • Nikon F5 - 1996
  • Nikon F6 - 2004

Nikon F6 is one of the best film SLR cameras from Nikon. Many photographers consider it to be the very best in the entire Nikon film SLR lineup. Of course, the Nikon F6 may be inferior to some other TOP or highly specialized SLR cameras from other manufacturers in details, but overall the Nikon F6 is simply gorgeous.

The Nikon F6 camera was announced on September 16, 2004 and became Nikon's latest film professional SLR camera. I prepared this review at the beginning of 2016, at this time on the official website imaging.nikon.com camera Nikon F6 was still listed as current modern camera. At the same time, among the film cameras that are still being produced (or sold new), Nikon had only two Nikon F6 models (worth $ 2.669) and Nikon FM10 (worth $ 569).

Prior to the announcement of the Nikon F6, Nikon DX series digital crop cameras were already released: Nikon D1, D1h, D1x, D100, D2h, D70 и Nikon E Series Full-Range Digital SLR Cameras: E2, E2S, E2N, E2NS, E3, E3S. The world of digital photography has practically supplanted film from many genres of photography. First of all, reportage photography was increasingly drawn to digital cameras and few expected that Nikon would take and release another reportage film camera.

Along with Nikon F6, an excellent digital camera was also announced. Nikon D2x, which became the first camera with the classic CMOS sensor, setting the tone for the further development of Nikon cameras.

In short, the Nikon F6 is interesting in the following features:

  • Protected enclosure
  • Focusing system with 11 points (9 of which are cruciform)
  • Maximum burst speed - 8 fps
  • CompactFlash memory card support (CF)
  • Large LCD on the back of the camera
  • Advanced metering system exposure with 1005 pixel RGB sensor
  • Support Nikon CLS
  • JVI with 100% field of view coverage
  • Data imprinting about shooting directly on film (on the frame itself, or between frames, or on the zero frame).
  • A lot of nice little things

Unlike Nikon F5 (previous model), the new camera was aimed a little at other users.

Management

When getting acquainted with the camera, there is a clear feeling that in the hands is not Nikon F6, but Nikon D200... The control of these cameras is almost the same. If you delve into the technical characteristics, then we can summarize that the Nikon F6 is a cross between the Nikon D2h / D2x and Nikon F100.

Camera control is easy. For those who shoots a lot of D1-D5 and D200-D810a lines on the camera, there should not be any inconvenience in controlling the Nikon F6. All buttons are in their usual places, setting all the shooting parameters is simple, the menu of the camera is organized at an intuitive level. Unfortunately, the Nikon F6 menu lacks the Russian language.

Nikon F6 is very pleasant and responsive during real shooting. There are 41 items in the menu, with which you can very easily set up the camera for comfortable work, or for the desired scene or shooting style.

Nikon F6

Nikon F6

Build quality

The Nikon F6 has a very high build quality and the Nikon F6 is water and dust resistant. However, in the manual for Nikon F6, I did not find any indication of the level of camera security.

The camera body consists of a cast chassis made of aluminum alloy. The lower and upper parts are made of magnesium alloy. The back (lid of the film compartment) is also made of aluminum alloy. The case has many rubber seals. If you examine, feel and work with Nikon F6, you can quickly come to the conclusion about a very high-quality assembly. Due to the large amount of metal in the case, the camera was not light and weighs as much as 975 grams.

The camera shutter is rated for a minimum of 150.000 shots. The shutter is made of the mysterious 'KEVLAR' material combined with an aluminum alloy. These shutter materials make the shutter curtains very light. Also, in the official press release of the company it was indicated that the shutter has a self-diagnostic function, but what it is and how it helps in real life I could not figure out.

Focus system

The Nikon F6 focusing system is based on the Multi-CAM 2000 focusing module, which was first used in a digital camera Nikon D2h (date of announcement - 22.07.2003). Later the same module was used on D2hs cameras, D2x и D2xs. Multi-CAM 2000 includes 11 focus points, 9 of which are cross-shaped and located in the center of the frame, forming a 3x3 square.

I used two autofocus lenses with the Nikon F6: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1: 1.4G SWM (with built-in focus motor) and Nikon 180mm 1: 2.8 ED AF Nikkor MKIII (without a built-in motor and without transmitting the distance to the subject). With these lenses, the Nikon F6 focused accurately and did not release the subject when moving it.

On the back side, the camera has a four-position lever for choosing the focus method: single-zone AF mode, dynamic AF mode, group dynamic AF mode, dynamic AF mode with the priority of the closest subject.

In the Nikon F6 menu, you can set the priority for working in S and C modes (focus priority, shutter release, and combinations thereof).

It is believed that the Nikon F6 has the best focusing system of all Nikon film cameras.

Nikon F6

Nikon F6

Metering system

The Nikon F6 inherits from the Nikon F5 its “3D Color Matrix Metering System” based on a 1005-pixel RGB sensor. This metering system exposure was used on a huge number of TOP and advanced digital SLR cameras: D1, D1h, D1X, D2h, D2hs, D2x, D2xs, D70, D70s, D200, D3, D3s, D3x, D700, D300, D300s, Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro, Fujifilm FinePix IS Pro. Truly legendary Nikon D3s and D3x use parts from Nikon F5 / F6 film “oldies”.

Measurement exposure works great. There are several settings that allow you to set the change step. exposure, select a measurement method exposure, select zone diameter for center-weighted metering mode exposure.

Key feature of Nikon F6 is accurate metering exposure while working with flashes. Nikon F6 Supports Nikon i-TTL Flash SB-600, SB-800 (apparently, all new flashes with i-TTL), as well as the SU-800 remote flash control unit. Also, Nikon F6 can work with the system Nikon CLS and remotely control external flash units (if only the Nikon F6 is equipped with a flash with the “master” function, since the camera does not have a built-in flash). Also, unlike the Nikon F5, the new camera supports Nikon FP high-speed sync. In normal sync mode, the minimum excerpt synchronization with the flash is 1 / 250s (versus 1 / 300s in the Nikon F5).

To prevent exposure metering flare by JVINikon F6 has a metal the blind of your eyepiece.

Nikon F6

Nikon F6

Work with manual optics

Nikon F6 works wonderfully with manual optics. On the basic version of the Nikon F6, you can install any lens with a Nikon F mount, released after 1977 and shoot for your own pleasure. With this Nikon F6, unlike all other Nikon film camerasallows you to use matrix metering with any lens for metering. Nikon F4 also knew how to do matrix metering, but only with AI manual lenses. AI-S type. Nikon F5 was completely deprived of such an opportunity. To use matrix metering, you need to set the focal length and maximum relative aperture of the manual lens used in the camera menu (Menu-> NON-CPU LENS -> set parameters).

For added convenience, you can set the FN programmable button to the 'LENS DATA' parameter (CSM MENU -> Controls-> FUNC. Button-> Lens Data). After this manipulation, if you press and hold the FN button, rotating the front command dial will change the manual lens stored in memory. Nikon F6 can memorize values for 9 manual lenses. By the way, this was the first time such a function appeared in a digital camera. Nikon D2h.

Unfortunately lenses NON AI (PRE AI) cannot be used on this camera. But there is one very good news, you can upgrade for Nikon F6 and replace the diaphragm rheostat ring with another... The replacement of the rheostat is provided by the design and is done at the official Nikon center. After replacing the diaphragm rheostat will have a rotating mating lever that can be “hidden” during operation with NON AI (PRE AI) lenses. This is the same rotating arm technology used by Nikon in its retro digital camera Nikon DF. I had a review of a non-upgraded Nikon F6 camera, so I could not use an old manual lens on it. Nikon Nikkor-SC Auto 1: 1.4 f = 50mm NON-AI (I hoped that the TOP camera should support all native lenses at once in the basic kit).

For successful focusing on the manual lens in the lower left corner there is a green dot, which serves as confirmation of successful focusing. Also, an electronic range finder in the form of two arrows near the green dot helps to focus. The arrows indicate which direction it is best to rotate the focus ring for quick and accurate focusing.

In the camera menu, you can enable or disable the backlight of the active focus point while working with manual optics.

Nikon F6

Nikon F6

CF card support

Like a digital camera, the Nikon F6 records shooting parameters to its internal memory for each shot. You can set different amounts of recording data for shooting. At the time of recording the maximum amount of data, the Nikon F6 can store data for 31 films of 36 frames. In the maximum version, the frame number is recorded, excerpt, aperture, focal length, maximum relative lens aperture, metering method, exposure mode, flash sync mode, exposure compensation amount, flash output compensation amount, flash mode settings, mode multiple exposures, VR mode, shooting date and time, etc.

In fact, Nikon F6 stores in its memory EXIF filmed data. And the best part is that using a special Nikon Data Reader MV-1 reader, data EXIF can be transferred to CF memory card and view it on your computer. The same function is supported by two more cameras: Nikon F5 and Nikon F100.

If you do not even use MV-1, then the shooting parameters of any shot frame can be displayed on the camera display. The output of information about the parameters of the previous frame is sometimes very, very useful.

Nikon F6

Nikon F6

Speed

Nikon F6 without additional accessories can shoot at maximum speed 5.5 frames per second... If you buy an additional Nikon MB-D40 battery pack, then the F6 accelerates to 8 frames per second. Unfortunately, as I wrote in my post 'Confrontation systems Nikon / Canon. Part 2. Performance', it's too bad that Nikon cameras require the purchase of additional accessories to achieve maximum burst speed.

The camera itself is very responsive, with instant response, low shutter lag, and fast blackout. The only annoying thing at times is the freezing of the LCD on the back of the camera when working in the cold.

Nikon F6

Nikon F6

My experience

Me really liked the Nikon F6 camera. After my Nikon AF N8008s this camera seems to be the peak of perfection.

However, I still want to highlight a few points that I would like to improve or refine on the Nikon F6:

  • I do not like that in order to reach 8 fps, you must definitely buy a Nikon MB-40 battery handle. Nikon F5 (previous model) had a built-in battery handle and could immediately shoot at a speed of 8k / s.
  • I don’t like that the camera does not have a shutter button lock. When I carry the camera not in a photo bag, but in my usual bag for the city or in a regular backpack, the camera often turns on automatically, and sometimes the shutter is released. More than once my camera Nikon D700 turned on independently and took hundreds of "black" frames. If for a digital camera an extra frame is not a problem, for a film camera it is a wasted valuable film.
  • don't like rare CR123A batteries. I found such batteries only after visiting the fifth store.
  • the CS (Continuous Silent Slow) mode, which is supposed to provide “quiet” shooting, does a very poor job.
  • rear monochrome display poorly displays information, sometimes you have to look closely at the displayed data. The upper information display is much better.
  • Nikon F6 uses a stupid eight-position selector (joystick) with a very inconvenient central button. The central button is pressed as uncomfortably as in models Nikon D2h, D2hs, D2x, D2xs, D200 и D300.

Examples

Sample photos were taken using lenses Nikon 180mm 1: 2.8 ED AF Nikkor MKIII и Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1: 1.4G SWM... We used Kodac color 200 film. It was digitized in a photo lab, what exactly is unknown.

Also, Vitaly Raikovsky shared his examples of photographs with Radozhiva; the shots were taken with the camera shown in the review. Vitaly used a lens for shooting Nikon 50mm 1: 1.2 Nikkor (AI-S)

Lens Nikon Nikkor 105mm 1: 1.8

Comments: 211, on the topic: Review (+ video, + examples of rare lenses) of the TOP film SLR camera from Nikon - Nikon F6

  • Dmitriy

I use Kodak Portra film myself. Mostly 400th. It is easily exhibited both as the 50th and 3200th. The colors are perfect! I shot a woman in Palestine. Black hair pulled out of the scarf and the sun dyed it in the perfect color of dark honey. I shot on the D7000 and on the FM3A on Portra. Only the film could convey the real color.
As for the SF, the graininess will seem less. I shoot on the Hasswlblad 203 FE, Pentakon Six and Moscow-2 of 1955 with a 6X9 frame.

  • Dmitriy

And, yes, I give it to a friend to scan on Nikon Kulskan 9000. For myself, I see no reason to buy a scanner - it's expensive.

    • atypical Kiev

put some pictures, pzhl. Or where can I look?

      • Dmitriy

Which ones? What exactly do you want to see?
Part of the photo does not belong to me under a contract with publishers.

        • anonym

Yes, at least something to see from what has been said and die. I hope the colors are not as “wonderful” as those of that strange tulip color with lilac leaves that was posted a little earlier.

          • Dim

In general, tulips with such leaves have long been bred; 0) Everything is OK

          • Alexander

On the figure, the colors were not the same as usual. It all depends on what photographing ;-)
Nikon D7000, 35-70 2.8, the same place where the previous tulip was shot (Keukenhof). The idea of that experiment was precisely in comparing the color rendition of the film and the numbers.

          • Alexander

This is also a figure. I did not use a gray card to adjust the white balance for the number (WB: Auto). Personally, it seems that the film gives a colder color compared to the figure. But this may be a consequence of the development.

          • Alexander

And this is again a film

          • Alexander

            Also film

          • Alexander

Plus, you need to consider the color rendering of the monitor, which is used to view photos. Since what you see on a color-calibrated monitor can be very far from what the user sees on the other side of the network on the TN-Film matrix of the laptop, and even if it is not at right angles to the direction of view.

          • Dmitriy

Got mail? You don’t insert a large photo here, but a small one does not make sense to watch :)

  • Igor

How can I film after a digital SLR? Photos from the film look like photos from a digital soap dish 5-10 years ago and only bokeh gives out that they were shot with high-aperture optics. Film, film cameras and reagents must be left for the museum.

    • fotika

you are a distant person from prof. commerce. for you, the mirror is the most.

      • Igor

Yes, for commerce, the film is just that! I filmed the session, but the film was defective, or it was lit up during development, or I slightly messed up the exposure, which corrects digitally in a couple of seconds ... Film is for enthusiasts, to indulge in and feel like a “cool photographer”.

    • fotika

Here is an example of when the film is of more use. http://blog.tikkoweddings.com/tag/nikon-f6/
removed, gave, took the printed, and a flash drive with scans. and carried it to the client. no photoshop, expensive monitors.

      • anonym

Not everything is as simple as you say. Why doesn't Arkady do this, for example, if this is “more useable.” I mean wedding photography.

        • fotika

and I don’t do it because I’ve already been laden with a bunch of digital trash. in order to film, you need to accurately understand the exp, see the light, have assistants 2-3. not all of us are ready to give $ 2000-5000 for CB. wrong market. look at Buysick's comments on quotes on CB. he shot a 2mm film on Nikon d35h + for a long time.

  • IZELBOR

The camera is interesting, but it is too expensive for the present time. Inexplicably.
I have a simple Olympus film with double built-in zoom. Just my first camera. And it’s enough for me to play with the film. And to pay the horse price tag for the outgoing technology, I don’t know, it’s the lot of the pros or those who have money for hobbies.

  • Diman

Honestly ... I would like to look into the eyes of a person who would have saved up and BOUGHT this camera for such a bubble))) I saw the F6 in the PhotoSale store for 130.000 rubles. This is how you need to be crazy to buy it?)) I found and bought an F5 in a NEW condition for 15.000 rubles. Was bought in 2004 and shot 5-6 tapes before me! And as Alexander wrote, if you shoot on film, you need to do everything with high quality! Everything is fresh and the best. I always manifest myself. I am happy to shoot on the F5 and also on the medium format. Of course, she cannot compete with the medium format, but she does a decent job) A couple of examples with F5 + 50 / 1.4g

I don’t know if they will throw stones at me here or not .. but I’ll take off 2 photos in medium format just for comparison, the first one was shot with Pentacon Six + Carl Zeiss Sonnar 180 / 2.8, the Kodak T-Max 100 film appeared Ilford microphen 1 + 1

    • Iskander

      Karasivo. Yes.

    • atypical Kiev

Diman, what they will throw - on the contrary, thank you very much and lay it out more often!
Can you give your medium format to Arcadia for review? Or will you write it yourself?

    • Nikita

This is just a masterpiece !!!

  • Diman

    Pentacon Six + Carl Zeiss Flektogon 50/4, Kodak T-Max 400 film showed Ilford microphen 1 + 1

I read, looked at the film “photo masterpieces” presented here and fell in love with my D7000, Lightroom 5 and CS 6 even more.

    • fotika

To write this kind of comment, you need to back up your answer with a couple of photos.

    • Antor

extra quotes, in fact there are “masterpieces” in quotes, or rather, there is more garbage from cheap digital mirrors d7000

  • Diman

Well, for those who film, believe me, and the number is also not bad with a full frame))

  • Diman

By the way, “Arsenal” no longer produces Kiev-88SM. A year ago I called directly to the plant. They say that the production of this camera has been stopped. And there was nothing left in stock ((All capacities switched to the defense industry!

  • Andrey

black and white photo with daisies shot at 105 mm, the girl is just a copy of Eliza Taylor from the TV series "Hundred"

  • Caelwyn

I don’t see the point in this camera, I don’t see at all. Well, I don’t see at all. So what's the point of buying a film carcass for the money? A carcass in a film photograph does not affect anything other than the convenience of using it. The same Nikon F80, which looks the same as a digital camera, with the same control, will wind the film and open the shutter in exactly the same way as this one, and it will cost a maximum of 1000 UAH. In perfect condition.

    • fotika

why then Mercedes, Honda or BMW. take the jig and ride.
or maybe sausages at 30UAH, why take norms at 90-120.
each has its own wallet size. this device will work flawlessly during the weather. and in the rain. and it has a lot of amenities.
if it does not suit you, does not mean that everyone thinks so.

      • Caelwyn

It was my opinion, I did not say that everyone thinks so. No need to compare the camera with sausages. In the case of a film photograph of a sausage, it is a film and a lens, not a carcass.

You can take the F80, insert the Kodak Portra into it, put on a good lens, show the film normally, scan it on a good scanner and make normal tone and color correction. And you can eat F6 with the same lens, put ColorPlus into it, show in a foul solution in a minilab, scan it on a tablet, and put it that way. The end result will not be in favor of the F6.

        • Lynx

Here it’s how ... you can take the F80, insert the Kodak Portra into it, put on a good lens, show the film normally, scan it on a good scanner and make normal tone and color correction.
But to shoot at the same time an absolute, dull garbage.
And then go to show everyone “the richness of the shades of the unique film”, despite the fact that you can't even look at the frame at all.
IMHO - all the same, the skill and the alloy thereof are more primary than technology, although the importance of the latter is difficult to deny.

    • Arkady Shapoval

It's just that this is a top-end camera, the d40 also shoots, but the d5 is still better, and the money issue is separate.

      • Andrei

Arkady, D40 and D5 have different ISO working ranges, sensors, color rendition in general - everything that is determined by the film. The difference between the carcasses for the film will be only in convenience and (maximum) focusing module.
PS. If you really dig deep into it, cameras with non-replaceable lenses can be compared exactly like cameras, in general. And of course build quality.

    • Andrei

      I absolutely support Caelwyn.
After Arkady's article about the "budget DSLR" I was looking for a cheaper carcass in order to try it out on personal experience. First I bought a Voigtländer Vito CD rangefinder: it was difficult to shoot, but quite real. Some of the frames were ejected due to blur or focus miss. Therefore, I decided to buy a Nikon F70 for reasons - one of the last on the market for the amateur segment + there is already a 1.8 / 50D + you could get on the local market (price 20 euros + bag + lens-plug). I do not regret it at all, I have already snapped the film 20-25. The focus is always caught, the glass motor is very fast, there are A-M-P-S modes, it is exposed with a bang.
Why do you need a fancy camera if you only need a hole from a camera for film photography? So the analogy with sausages is not at all appropriate here, uvn fotika. Here the analogy with a phone is closer - if you need it for calls, then you don't need a sapphire crystal and a fingerprint scanner on it. The younger model will cope with almost all routine tasks, and the quality will be determined only by your film.

    • max

The meaning was in the era of film cameras, now there is no sense in any film camera. Look at these film shots and ... well, there is nothing interesting in them. Generally. “Warm lamp” film is perceived solely as soap, unnatural color and scan artifacts. Overlay this on a digital frame - there will be 100% "film"

  • Caelwyn

Here, I will add a film photo from myself to my piggy bank - Nikon FM + Nikon 50mm f1.8D + some kind of technical film at UAH 15 per meter, manual development in the homeland.

  • anonym

there is no frame that film can handle better than digital. for example the same Nikon D810 - 14,76 stops at ISO 64.

    and film (from Wikipedia):

Black and white negative films from 2,5 to 9 steps.
Black-and-white slide (reversible) films from 1,5 to 5 steps.
Black and white photo paper: 0,7 (contrast) - 1,7 (soft)
Color negative films from 4 to 5 steps.
Color slide (reversible) films from 2 to 4 steps.
Special high-contrast films - less than 2 exposure levels.
Special low-contrast films - more than 11 exposure levels.

and graininess, noise, etc. can be obtained by filters!

    • Caelwyn

It is a little wrong, for slide film, for example, with a very narrow input DD, the output DD, on the contrary, is very wide. If you look at the slide in the light, then there will be much more semitones and volume than a figure, which, at the same time, is completely killed when scanning.

For a narrow format, the figure, in addition, provides a more even and clean picture, due to the lack of granularity, and completely accurate color reproduction. Therefore, filming a 135 format film makes sense only where the number can’t cope, for example, infrared shooting.

However, if you take a medium or large format, then the film is absolutely beyond competition, at least now. In terms of detail and plasticity, the picture shot in a good medium format still surpasses the figure.

      • varezhkin

just the same in the case of the film about a completely accurate transmission, we are not talking at all.

  • anonym

Caelwyn, please give specific examples of the practical use of the praised film.

    • Arkady Shapoval

I can name a specific example, I even wanted to make a note about it. Some films are shot on 70 mm film (double frames of 35), as a result we get something like a video frame with a medium format (details on pedivics). The film gives a very high detail, then it is digitized up to 8k (really cool resolution) or shown immediately. One of the most recent films made in this way is Samsara. Visual enjoyment has no boundaries, I watched it in bdremux 1920 * 1080, a 40 GB file, the impression of a film movie is very unusual.

I advise you to look at least the trailer:

      • anonym

Arkady, everything is great, but this, like appendicitis, seems to exist and is even needed, but it is quite possible to live without it, in short - a rudiment.

        • Caelwyn

Most modern films are filmed, the same last episode of star wars, for example, filmed on Kodak Vision3. The reason is that the film provides a richer transmission of halftones, and the color rendition is then corrected during processing. In addition, such a source allows, in the future, to digitize it with a much higher quality than now, as technology develops. And the source file shot at a number in 1080p, so in 1080p for life it will remain.

        • Arkady Shapoval

I would not call it appendicitis, the potential of the film for a serious video is very high. You can’t even imagine how many modern films were shot on film. + as someone noticed, the film can be digitized as you like, squeeze a bunch of data from it. And this has already been done more than once, the same star wars first (fourth episode) are digitized and processed so that it looks in full hd with an open mouth. The dilemma is that cinema is degrading due to the viewer, who may not appreciate the highest achievements of technical and artistic means against the background of general 3D-transformer-schizophrenia.

That is, the potential of the film is in the cinema? But is there really no practical application in photography?

            • Arkady Shapoval

In the West, for serious fashion magazines, shooting is done in a medium format. In the West, this is welcomed, as is the lack of additional Photoshop processing. But this is a completely different genre and very different money for an ordinary amateur photographer with Nikon d3100 or Kenon 1100d. Medium format film or slides really have the volume that is often talked about in photo forums. Also, medium format optics have their amazing volume and transmission of perspective. Unfortunately, in our countries this level is reachable only by units. Many ignoramuses never held in their hands anything more serious than the d7000 and did not remove any fashion, otherwise the general level of awareness of our photographers was much higher.

              • Oleg

This is not a bad lecture on film photography and medium format. Who cares

              • Oleg

                Sorry http://www.mywed.ru/forum/49223/

          • Sergei

So films are filmed only because of the fact that in cinemas to show (like this https://vimeo.com/151746651), digital projectors can not yet provide the proper brightness and resolution. And an unlicensed copy is hard to make from film.

      • varezhkin

Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" was also shot at 75 mm, there was a special. agreement with Kodak for deliveries. If kulskans were distributed with the film, I would not even think ...

        • Sergei

At 70 mm, not at 75. This is a new standard.

          • varezhkin

            yes, 70 mm, one copy

      • Lynx

        Chu .. Samsara!
Only the "disgusting eight", only Tarantino, only hardcore!

It's funny to hear negative comments about film from the “photographer”.
It is clear that a whole generation has already grown up familiar only with digital, but 35mm film photography is the basis of modern photography. Regarding the advantages ranging from the absence of all the bugs of the numbers and the possibility of quiet printing with a very high magnification (the picture is formed by chaotically arranged grains and not pixels, and when printing from the negative they will be on “squares” and the picture, ending with the advantages in the long term, the capabilities of scanners only grow.
It is also worth noting that 35 mm is only a medium-sized crop, which in turn is a bf crop. And as a consequence, speaking about the film, one should not forget about the large and medium format, where the figure is absolutely not a competitor ...
As for cinema, experts in this industry say that the figure is a compromise solution to reduce the cost of the process. It does not provide full photographic latitude, it suffers from detail and more.
If interested, I will find an article and throw it off.

Body armor, tennis rackets, etc. are made from the “mysterious” Kevlar material.

  • Andrei

If you are interested in the battle of tape against numbers: the whole point of the issue is explained in the doc. film Side by side or "Side by side" (refer to movie search = http://www.kinopoisk.ru/film/602678/)
Everything is told very well and competently by the most brilliant directors. And here, fighting for some kind of superiority is like starting an argument about who has the "cooler bokeh".

    • anonym

Andrey, the film is very entertaining. But I never heard / saw any intelligible objective arguments about the superiority of the film. Something vaguely mumbled about a broader DD without a single practical example, not forgetting to mention the rapidly developing digital technologies. And the main argument in favor of the film was a kind of "lost magic of the film industry" ...

  • ))

Film last century. Not only can you still not buy it everywhere, but what is sold costs a lot of money (compared to the cost_ return) and of such quality that you will get lost. Plus development. it is not known in which rotten reagents her khachiks show, and with what fat fingers they touch her after Samsa or other crap. As for DD, guys, calm down. Not a single industrial scanner ever transmits even 80% of the entire light and color shade from a film, even if their almost perfect ratio is recorded on it. Consider losses when scanning and digitizing. To re-shoot the film with carcasses of the type 800ki or 5 dsr-pahahahaha do the monkey work further, Sisyphus labor. Manifesting yourself is not profitable. In addition to the cost of film, a considerable cost of reagents and equipment, which is also not everywhere today even in capitals, can not be bought. I don’t understand the spitting foam of those who love to masturbate in the bathroom with tweezers and not when I don’t understand them, proving that your figure is utterly unclean. Medium format, they are filming from poverty. escaped from the mud, to the medium format, but they never scrape a good digital face, because it stands as a private house in a thread in a village near St. Petersburg. . So they spit proving that the film in the SF is forever. Yes pah, I saw working with this sf from the film - the same effect can be achieved if you clean the matrix with sandpaper-0. commerce WITH FILM ??? I look, every 10 years I see such merchants with their junk on orders, because they mess up, and then they leave for 9 years and pay the penalty to the customer, having corrupted the order. In general, you have a desire to make fun of yourself-forward. For people with a head, the film ceased to exist after the first serious order, successfully shot with a number, and then you continue to fight and spit, it’s ridiculous to read.

    • Lynx

Well, you figure it out - the film is not ice, or you just do not have enough money for it? ))

    • Denis

      all latent filmophiles are filmophobia

    Nostalgia. Nostalgia and Nostalgia again!

  • DSLR Messiah

Pha haha. Children. Well, can you really not see that fotika Arkady and Lynx are in a commercial conspiracy? According to the comments, it is clear that they are all three praising the Nikon F6 in order to quickly sell it to some “smart” person. Wake up! Even the Nikon D700 will outperform this F6 in all respects. Not to mention gorilla cameras like the Nikon D800 which have film in all respects up to medium format and beyond. The tape died. And a camera like the F6 is excellent proof of that. Take a look at the pictures of Arkady. Pour in coffee, open the first frame, look at it, look at the scratches, hair, dust, savor, pure photography ... then take your Nikon D40 out of the closet, remove the lens, raise the mirror, put your hair in there, you know where, such short, curly , you can add dandruff to taste, rub the matrix lightly with zero emery paper, and voila !!! Your Nikon D40 turns into an expensive Nikon F6 film! Go ahead, list it on Ebay for $ 1500 or shoot it yourself, and enjoy the film picture

    • fotika

The whole world is big commerce and marketing. Your foam reminds me of talking about electric cars and people who drive a ford f150 or a cadillac escalade.
For taste and color ... salt yourself. And judging by your writing "Use children" you yourself would have to finish attending kindergarten. Everyone chooses what and how to shoot. And if we talk about the d800 which I have been working with for about 2 years, and I sold it and I have no regrets. There are many reasons for this (a clumsy af out of the box, a battery that was blown in a month, an incomprehensible Nikon skin color, a button accordion with a screen tint)
It was successfully replaced by fuj x-pro1, which for me was better in all respects for me at that time.

    • SashOK

Well, following your logic, ALL cameras that are tested and described here by Arkady are exclusively for selling them to some kind of “smart” person. And in general, the whole of Radozhiva is an advertising platform for vparivaniya digital cameras (and then there were also film players) - to idiots ... Well, the logic is just school.
Khosh buy, nekosh - take a photo on your beloved Samsugn Geleksi and put heaps of sad g..n in the cantactic.
Personally, I was interested to read about this super camera, but of course I wouldn’t buy it for that kind of money. But I’m shooting it with pleasure. On the Nikon F55, it is much simpler but also 10 times cheaper.
Why do all the digital streamers point sarcastically at the unsuccessful shots-examples of Arkady, including you "DSLR Messiah", but as if you don't see examples of Vitaly Raikovsky, where are the excellent shots?

  • Daemond

Take notes: mastering the film ... 20 years later, filmed with NIKON F3 Nikon Lens 28mm f: 2,8, Fuji 200 film. I gave it to the lab for development, scanned it there, but only in JPEG ... The weather was rainy, so everything is rather gloomy ... I want to scan it again myself, will there be a difference ...

    • SashOK

The weather has nothing to do with it. The important thing is how to MANIFEST and on what to SCAN the film.
I will say this: if they scan with a photo machine, the one that is printed from film, in 80% of cases the result will be fooled and sloppy. I went through it myself.
If scanned on a GOOD film scanner, such as Epson V7000 (it seems) - it will be fine, after finishing it in Photoshop - great. Well, if you scan on any Nikon Coolscan realty - the result will be generally superb! You don't even need to finish anything ... But this is an expensive pleasure, of course.

    • Anri

The weather is good for everything. Whatever it is, without saying it, just trim the juices color - it is necessary to know in sleepy weather, gold in the year. І scanner, і development here it is necessary to do it

      • BB

The weather goes without saying. But you can't get normal photos from a fofly scanner
