AUTO PROMASTER MC ZOOM lens is Nikon Ai-s - compatible lens. The word AUTO in the lens name indicates that automatic iris control is available with this lens. MC talks about multi-enlightenment.
Judging by information from the Internet, the Promaster brand was engaged in selling Japanese lenses imported into the United States under its own brand. And, in fact, the lens has an inscription saying that it is made in Japan.
According to the pentaxists, this lens is Tokina special 75-150 3.8, a version of this Promaster lens for the pentax system is available. All three lenses, although very similar, nevertheless look different and have differences. For example, the tokina has a thread for 55 mm filters, but on the lens presented in the review, the decorative ring above the front lens is much narrower, and the threaded sleeve is still screwed in, if you measure without it, you get just 55 mm. Why such tricks were needed is unknown. The lenses are still slightly different, although the picture is very similar.
Tokina:
Pentax version:
Structurally, the trombone, focusing and changing the focal length occur in one ring. The focus ring travels approximately 180 degrees. There is also an aperture control ring. Made with high quality, no backlash, uneven movement. Glass, metal, built-in lens hood made of plastic, rubber focus ring. When zooming, the front and rear lenses do not rotate and do not change their position, focusing does not go astray. When focusing, the front lens rotates. The built-in hood is fixed well, there is no feeling of fragility. In order to switch the lens to macro mode, you need to pull up to the click the focus ring at a focal length of 75 mm. The focus ring in macro and normal modes rotates in different directions (closer / further).
The diaphragm has intermediate values, but only standard ones are recognized by the camera, 3,8 is defined as 4. The diaphragm has 8 almost non-rounded, frosted petals.
In the blur zone, draws excellent octagons, starting with aperture of 5,6
With strong side and backlight, the lens loses its contrast, gets colder, the colors fade a little. Built-in hood helps slightly. Hares could not be caught.
Bokeh, in my opinion, is pleasant, rather plastic:
On diaphragms up to 8, spherical aberrations are noticeable, the lens is soft. Chromatic aberrations to 8 weaken, completely disappear to 11. Aberrations are stronger at the long end.
The lens has a good sharpness and resolution at aperture 8. Distortions and vignetting on crop are invisible.
The lens looks good on the camera, it is quite compact:
The lens has a certain airiness of the picture, pleasant natural colors. It seems to me that its purpose is portrait zoom, with quite manageable software.

Thanks to Alexey for the review, I have a similar (in appearance) lens Tamron 80-210bbar3.8-4.0, it is very convenient to take pictures and shoot video ...
Good review
Newer version for Pentax, one to one subject from the review
Good visibility, good lens with a very popular focal length range, precise definition of the area of use. I have a similar MC Vivitar 70-150 \ 3,8 Macro Focusing Zoom (Kiron N22 ...) - a very pleasant lens to use, small, lightweight, with a beautiful pattern. It is interesting that lenses with a similar RF are rarely found on sale, probably their owners are simply not in a hurry to part with them when they are “tasted.” Thanks to the author for the review!
Another example is open.
Sorry, filmed not on the open, but on “4”, on D70. On "open" below. It is characteristic that there is a very tangible difference between “3,8” and “4”, but there is no “soap-soap”.
