The Nikon 24-120 / 4G often comes as a whale lens (i.e. the included lens) for some full-format cameras, such as Nikon D750.
Nikon 24-120 / 4G 'is equipped' with a special psychological function - a gold ring near the front lens, which means it can be attributed to the professional lenses of the NIKON NIKKOR line. Although initially the gold ring was placed only on lenses with ED elements in the optical scheme, then marketers began to draw it on all more or less advanced lenses, even if there are no ED elements in their optical scheme (for example Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm 1: 1.4GN) Old lenses with ED elements do not have such a ring. Nikon 24-120 / 4G is made in Thailand. To the touch it is pleasant and weighty, its weight is 710 grams, Nikon 24-120 / 4G uses large filters of professional diameter of 77 mm. The lens has rubber gasket near the mount of the mount for protection against dust and moisture, the lens itself is not dustproof and waterproof.

Diaphragm the lens consists of 9 rounded petalswhich form a fairly even hole. It's nice that Nikon did not stint on nine petals. Aperture closes to F / 22 over the entire range of focal lengths.

In values excerpts this means that you can shoot at shutter speeds 10-12 times longer than what the lens without a stabilizer requires. Most likely, the lens uses a stabilizer identical to that of Nikon 28-300 / 3.5-5.6G.
To turn on / off the stabilizer on the lens there is a button 'VR ON / OFF'. The stabilizer can operate in two modes: 'Normal' and 'Active'.
'Normal' mode designed for most scenes and avoids movement when camera shake. Theoretically, the 'Normal' mode can still track the movement of the camera to create panoramas.
Active Mode most suitable for shooting when the camera can not only shake, but also move in different directions. Most often, it is advised to use this mode when shooting in motion.
The stabilizer itself works well. I was able to take pictures without grease and hard work at 120 mm focal length and 1/30 second.
Nikon 24-120 / 4G focuses quite quietly thanks to 'SWM'-motor (Silent Wbird Motor - quiet wave motor) and refers to the lens'AF-S'type (with built-in motor focusing), and therefore it will automatically focus on any Nikon digital SLR camera.
Auto Focus Speed - high. Focusing time from MDF (minimum focusing distance) to infinity and vice versa is comparable to Nikon N AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm 1: 2.8G ED NanoCrystalCoat SWM IF Aspherical. There is no IPIG scale as well as labels for working in the infrared spectrum. In manual focus mode, the ring rotates 120 degrees, when it reaches the extreme positions it does not rest, but continues to slide, without affecting the focus.
Nikon 24-120 / 4G suffers greatly from the 'Focus Breathing' effect - changing the angle of view while focusing.
On the lens housing you can find focus switch 'M / A - M'. In the 'M / A' position, auto focus works with constant manual focus priority. The 'M / A' mode is very convenient and useful - for manual focusing or focus correction, you do not need to additionally switch the lens to the 'M' mode.

The exception is F / 4 @ 120mm, where the lens could have been sharper. Also, sharpness sags along the edges and corners of the frame. Closing the diaphragm, it is possible to bring sharpness along the edges and corners to normal. Nikon 24-120 / 4G tolerates side and backlight well, with a hood installed it is very difficult to catch a bunny from side light. In the backlight, the number of glare is minimal, perhaps here, however, it exhibits a special nanocrystalline enlightenment of optics. Nikon 24-120 / 4G did not do without chromatic aberration, but everything is within normal limits.
At 24 mm you can see a small distortion the nature of the distortion is homogeneous and it is not particularly difficult to remove using post editing, and modern cameras can automatically correct and distortion и chromatic aberration.
The picture itself from Nikon 24-120 / 4G, as for a 24x zoom, is very, very good. Usually, professional opticians demand some kind of fabulous indicators that go beyond common sense. I will not open America that Nikon 120-4 / XNUMXG will not surprise "terry" users who are used to shooting with super-fixes. At the same time, according to his tasks, he shows a quite suitable result.

Nikon 24-120 / 4G is probably the best all-rounder with over 3X zoom that I have ever used. Of course, it has drawbacks associated with a drop in sharpness at the edges, a high price and a lot of weight, but this is not a prime lens to be 'razor sharp' throughout the frame, and good technology should cost the corresponding money. In general, I was pleased with the Nikon 24-120 / 4G. But still, as the main all-round lens for most tasks, I would prefer a faster Nikon N AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm 1: 2.8G ED SWM IF Aspherical or Nikon ED SWM AF-S Nikkor 28-70mm 1: 2.8D.
