SIGMA ZOOM 28-105mm D 1: 2.8-4 Aspherical

SIGMA ZOOM 28-105mm D 1: 2.8-4 Aspherical is a versatile lens for full frame cameras. This review presents a model for Nikon cameras, but the lens was also produced for Sigma, Minolta, Pentax and Canon mounts. In 2005, the lens was upgraded to a 'DG' model - SIGMA ZOOM 28-105mm 1: 2.8-4DG. The prefix that appears in the name of the lensDG'means that the lens has been redesigned specifically for use on DSLR cameras, while the review version was originally intended for film cameras. The new version can be quickly distinguished from the old by the signature Sigma velvet finish and the lack of 'Aspherical' lettering. Also, there is informationthat manual focus lens versions were released for Nikon AI, Pentax K, but, unfortunately, I could not find any photos of such a modification on the network.

SIGMA ZOOM 28-105mm D 1: 2.8-4 Aspherical with hood

SIGMA ZOOM 28-105mm D 1: 2.8-4 Aspherical - well made. The zoom ring is rubberized, but the focus ring is plastic.

Focusing speed, when used on Nikon cameras, is high (even very high!). It's nice that the focus is internal type.

During auto focus, the focus ring rotates and cannot be touched. The stroke of the ring is approximately 75 degrees. Most likely, with a small step of the focus ring, a high speed of auto focus is achieved. During manual focus, the focus ring may creak unpleasantly :(.

During zooming, the rear lens moves inside the lens, the lens trunk extends, but its sections do not rotate. The specimen, which I visited for the review, does not change the focal length spontaneously, under its own weight.

There is a focus distance scale in meters and feet. The minimum distance is only 50 cm. The number of marks on the focus scale is very scarce, and therefore this scale is more likely to give an understanding of which direction to rotate the focus ring;). On the scale of focal lengths, marks are indicated for 28, 35, 50, 70, 105 mm. IPIG scale no.

There is a mark on the case for quick installation of a small plastic bayonet hood. The hood can be installed back and forth, for transportation, while access to the focus ring is lost if a short focal length is set.

Diaphragm consists of eight petals. On covered diaphragms, you can see nuts in the bokeh.

Exact list Nikon DSLR cameras without a built-in focus motor, on which this lens will not focus automatically:

Only auto focus and sound confirmation of focus will not work with these cameras, all other important functions, such as automatic exposure metering and automatic iris control, will work well.

You will find a lot of useful information on the types of cameras and lenses Nikon here.

There is no focus mode switch on the lens itself; to put the lens in manual focus mode, you must put the camera in manual focus mode using the switch located near the camera mount.

The lens has a manual aperture ring. To be able to control the value aperture from camera or for automatic installation aperture on modern central control valves, you need to turn the control ring to F / 22 and fix it with a special lever, which is located to the right of the marks aperture. If this is not done, then on a number of cameras, the display will display an error - 'fEE' (ring is not installed aperture) Some cameras having diaphragm rheostatallow you to control the aperture using the ring aperturebut only in metering modes exposure 'M' and 'A'. You can read more about this issue in the section on Non-G Lenses. Ring aperture rotates with clicks, the values F / 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22 are plotted on it. It is impossible to establish an intermediate value between pairs of numbers using the aperture ring. Intermediate values can only be set using the camera menu.

SIGMA ZOOM 28-105mm D 1: 2.8-4 Aspherical

SIGMA ZOOM 28-105mm D 1: 2.8-4 Aspherical has a very convenient range of focal lengths and a good maximum aperture... In general, the lens resembles its older brother - Sigma Zoom 24-135mmD 1: 2.8-4.5.

In terms of image quality, the lens from this review was not particularly pleased. First of all, SIGMA 28-105 / 2.8-4 suffers from noticeable distortion over the entire range of focal lengths, a small green / yellow hue, poor work in backlight and poor sharpness on open apertures. Rumor has it that image quality (primarily resolution) is highly dependent on a particular instance.

At 105 mm and F / 4, the background washes well with enough, as for a zoom lens, nice design.

If I needed a similar lens, I would rather pay attention to my relatives Nikon AF Nikkor 24-85mm 1: 2.8-4 D IF Aspherical Macro (1: 2) or Nikon AF Nikkor 28-105mm 1: 3.5-4.5D.

Results

For its money, the SIGMA ZOOM 28-105mm D 1: 2.8-4 Aspherical is quite good for replacing the native high-aperture lenses. But aside from the price reference, the SIGMA 28-105 / 2.8-4 is a pretty mediocre lens.

If anyone is interested, I can send originals with RAW. Only mine for Canon.

Yes, leave a link to the originals here in the comments

      • Judging by Arkady's photo, most of the photos are pre-ALEXANDER

Hello Arkady. Well, judging by the photo of this SIGMA ZOOM 28-105mm D 1: 2.8-4 Aspherical lens featuring sharpness in many photos !!!

    • Alexander

Hello! Can you send the originals of the photo Sigma AF 28-105mm f / 2.8-4 aspherical IF?

  • Maksim

In this sigma, the picture is similar to Vega 12B. Tell me, for the D7100 it will work as a regular one, I rarely use a wide angle. Thank you

  • Lev

Hello! "SIGMA ZOOM 28-105mm D 1: 2.8-4 Aspherical is a versatile lens for full-frame cameras." Will I be able to use this lens with a small or half format camera instead of a full format camera? Thanks.

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Fixed

  • ALEXANDER

Why are these photos so bad in sharpness ???

    • Victor

Agree, it would be strange if, on the clamped to f / 11, in addition to the large-pixel d700, and even in a reduced size to 1600 on the long side, one could consider some kind of soap)))

    • Arkady Shapoval

at a closed aperture up to f16 and d700 with a large pixel, any lens will be "sharp"

  • ALEXANDER

Show in this photo "soap" ???

    • Victor

What do you want to see at such a diaphragm and even at such a size?

  • Denis

What didn't make you happy? The sharpness in the pictures is excellent. My eye doesn't lie.

    • Land

Soapy edges are visible on the 12th photo. Right now, Avito has one for 2500 rubles per pentax. I’m thinking of replacing the whale, because for me the soapy edges are not a hindrance, and the rest of the listed shortcomings are not catastrophic for my goals

        Do you have Pentax ff?
