Industar-69 2.8 / 28

According provided by lens Industar-69 2.8 / 28 many thanks to Vasily.

Industar-69 2.8 / 28

Industar-69 2.8 / 28

Industar-69 2.8 / 28 is a lens from the Soviet scaled camera of the Chaika brand. There are several variants of the Industar-69, so on the first models of the Chaika cameras there was a fixed version of the lens, and on the Chaika-2, -2М, 3 models it was installed as shown in this review.

The lens has an М39x1 thread, but, unlike other rangefinder lenses, its focal distance is shorter than usual and amounts to 27.5 mm. And it is also designed to work with a frame of 18x24. In modern terms, it is only suitable for crop cameras with an APS-C sensor, and when used on full-frame cameras, it will give the strongest vignetting.

I used Industar-69 2.8 / 28 on a full frame camera Canon EOS 5D with two adapters: М39-М42 and М42-Canon EOS. In such a combination it is possible to shoot only macro (due to the mismatch of the flange focal lengths - for a SLR camera it is almost twice as large) and at the same time without vignetting (due to the short focusing distance). In this operating mode, the focusing ring completely loses its functionality, and focusing is done by moving the camera towards the subject.

Industar-69 2.8 / 28, of course, is best used with modern mirrorless cameras :). I have a rangefinder camera 'Zorkiy-4', but due to the fact that it has a focal distance of 28.8 mm (more than that of Industar-69), I gave up the idea of using it on a rangefinder and 'shooting' at random.

Industar-69 2.8 / 28 when focusing on infinity

Industar-69 2.8 / 28 when focusing on infinity

Industar-69 2.8 / 28 is very light and small, even smaller than crumbs Industar-50-2 3,5 / 50... The lens barrel is completely metal. There is a focusing distance scale in meters on the body. It's funny, but additional signs are drawn on it: 'tree with a house', 'group of people' and 'person', it reminded me of the automatic modes 'night portrait', 'sports', etc. on the main control wheel of modern digital-SLR cameras :). Apparently, these designations allow you to quickly set the desired focusing distance (focus) when shooting such scenes.

The minimum focusing distance is 80 cm. During focusing, the front lens rotates and the trunk of the lens barely noticeably moves forward. Also on the body there is a depth of field scale for aperture values F / 2.8, 4, 5.6 8, 11, 16. The lens can use tiny filters with a diameter of 22.5 mm.

Industar-69 2.8 / 28 when focusing on MDF

Industar-69 2.8 / 28 when focusing on MDF

The aperture control ring is recessed near the front lens and is very uncomfortable because of this. When closing / opening the diaphragm, you constantly rotate, in addition to the aperture ring itself, the focusing ring. And in order to set the desired value of the F-number, it is necessary to turn the lens over towards you with the front lens. No aperture preset ring. The diaphragm ring rotates smoothly without fixing at intermediate values. It's a pity, but the lens has only 5 aperture blades, what kind of 'nuts' are obtained from this, see the sample photos :).

Industar-69 2.8 / 28

Industar-69 2.8 / 28

Personally, it always amuses me to install some simple lens on the camera and try to squeeze something worthwhile from it. In this case, with Industar-69 2.8 / 28 we get the opportunity to use a fast wide-angle macro lens for mere pennies :).

Industar-69 2.8 / 28 and Industar-50-2 3,5 / 50

Industar-69 2.8 / 28 and Industar-50-2 3,5 / 50

Due to the fact that I used the lens for other purposes (on a full-frame SLR camera instead of a half-format scale camera), it is extremely difficult for me to judge the image quality. I can only note that the lens does not tolerate back and side light, filling with halos, rainbows and covering the whole picture with a veil.

I recently bought myself an Industar-69M. Brought home, and he is on the M42. At the same time, it is from a rangefinder (probably, since there is no focus at all on the DSLR). Now I'm sitting and thinking what to do with it :)
PS There is a mirrorless Sony NEX-3, but what about the adapter? ;)

    • BB

Have you carefully read the review? He has a small working length. In the DSLR you will only have macro. If you cannot focus, then reduce the distance to the subject.

Adapter - why? Scotch will save the world!

      • Alexey

I carefully read the review, and I understand about the working segment. I put it on a DSLR because I doubted that it was a rangefinder. I can’t check on Nex yet, Nex is temporarily out of order.

    • Lynx

Adapters M39-M42 and M39-Sonya will completely save you

    • Lynx

Chet lynx nonsense just wrote (((
Most likely this is an ordinary m39, only the m39-m42 ring has already been wound on it. Try to twist it.

      • Alexey

Everything seems to be monolithic, I didn’t notice the ring :)

      • Alexey

No, not a mirror, tried it.
By the way, his name has the letter “M” at the end, but in the review (and in the ad for which I bought it) there is no letter :)

        • Lynx

          Hmm ... then I don't even know

    • Andrei

Lucky ... I can't find this version anywhere.

  • anonym

But how to put it on Nikon 7000?

    • Sergey

      Using adapters M39-M42 and M42-Nikon.

  • skadi

Anyone with infinity problems - unscrew (but do not completely unscrew) 4 microscrews for a flat screwdriver, remove the focusing ring.
Aim at infinity. Place the ring, tighten 4 screws. The red point of the aperture setting will not hit the scale, but this is not fatal - I made a new point.

the lens itself came across wildly soapy, the rear lens is cloudy.
    One more is necessary :)

    • Boris

I'll try, read it posture. (Below in the comments I put it on nikon 1 v1 - everything is bad. Sharpness is only on aperture 11, 16. There is no infinity).

    • Vladimir

The turbidity of the images is fixable, we unscrew the rear lens, rinse it, put it in its place and voila! the peculiarity of this pancake is its soft pattern.
screwed it to EM-5. such a retro look turned out ...

Experience with I69 is available. I have several stories connected with him, there is even a tragic one, in a sense. Can I give a link? If not, delete.

http://dave-7447.livejournal.com/171970.html - here is a question about it, which has not been resolved

I would like to have experience with the I69m, but I can not find it on sale.

  • Ruslan

Thank you so much for your work. I use this miracle for Nikon 1. There is infinity, you need to turn the locking bolt off, there is a video on YouTube. Sharp and compact, bought with a seagull for 50 UAH.

  • Rodion

If used on the UPC, then it is interesting for its drawing at medium and short distances. You can also use a shirik, but only with F / 8 - on the open edges, alas, not at all)
Optimally - F / 11, then the sharpness is pretty even on APS-C.

At the same time, for macro photography with the central locking device it suits perfectly already from 5.6 - in the center of focus it is full.

  • Boris

Put it on nikon 1 v1 - everything is bad. Sharpness only at aperture 11, 16. There is no infinity.

    • Rodion

Infinity has already written how to catch.
Sharpness is also said - to be on the field, you need to close until 11.
In the center there are already from 2.8-4.

      • Boris

HOORAY! EARNED! THANKS!!!! I unscrewed the bolts, screwed the lenses closer to the matrix, everything works - there is infinity, only you really need to focus on a clear sharpness with a diaphragm and want to vary the light. The main thing is not to grind anything down - I looked at YouTube - 1,4 mm., A lot of trouble.

  • Vladimir

In general, in my opinion, a gorgeous lens for its class and age.
For every day, for daytime shooting, the perfect pocket option.
At aperture 11 it goes into hyperfocal and you can forget about focusing when shooting street art and the like. Its main feature is soft drawing!
And he's not bad indoors either ...
The attached photo was taken indoors f-4; iso-800.

  • Valera

I don’t understand, the seagull is designed to work with a frame of 18x24 and a 28 mm lens is designed for a full format !!!! How can this be !!! For example, I come to a store and say - give me a camera Seagull 2 or 3 with Industar 69. So I should be warned right away that 28 will turn into 42 mm. Why is it written there 28 if the lens itself is NOT designed for 28 in a full frame.

    • Arkady Shapoval

always (always!) the physical focal length of the lens is written, it does not depend on the format used. And EGF (equivalent) is convenient for designating an angle.

      • Valera

So on a full frame it will be 28 mm even with “strong vignetting” and on a crop it will be 42 mm?
On gull 2, 3 will also be (approximately) 42 mm?

        • Arkady Shapoval

yes, at the full frame there will be exactly 28, the crop will be about 42 in the viewing angle (just the crop of the edge will be cut off).

          • Valera

That is, if I buy a seagull with such a 28mm lens, they give me 42mm?))) This is no longer a wide-angle ... After all, the seagull is designed for 18x24 mm film, Was it possible then to insert a full-format film into the seagull?

            • Arkady Shapoval

An ordinary film was inserted there, just the number of frames was 2 times more due to their half their physical size. Today's kit lenses for cropped cameras are labeled 18-55 and no one complains that 18mm is not an ultra-wide angle.

              • Valera

Yes, and I'm not complaining, although until recently I was sure that my kit (Sony E 3.5-5.6 / PZ 16-50 OSS Optical Steady Shot Power Zoom you have a review) was for a cropped camera)))

              • Valery A.

And now be sure - if you put it on FF, the pictures will be with a dark vignette, for a rare amateur.

  • Novichok

I removed the threaded ring from the seagull 2 and screwed the nex 3n carcass to the plastic lid. He squandered the rear nut on the lens and screwed it onto a threaded ring.
I adjusted the lens to infinity and removed one limiter so that the MDF was smaller. Vignetting is practically nonexistent.
Given the cost of the plastic lid and gull 2, the price is just ridiculous.

  • Novichok

    Front view.

  • anonym

Who needs such a review? M39 lenses designed for macro on the DSLR?
Arkady, can regular readers chip in and give you a Sony or Fuji mirrorless mirror to normally test lenses in both portrait and landscape? Ready to help financially. And then somehow frivolously.

  • keen

Why put this lens on a figure. It is intended for film. Give and examples from the film

    • anonym

The film is already dead. Forget it slowly.

    • anonym

Once upon a time there were polished glass plates with an emulsion applied to it. The pictures were amazing. But, alas, the times of such technology have gone into oblivion due to their bulkiness and inconvenience. So the film, it passed a long time ago and that's it ...

  • panchrome

I successfully use industrial-69 to capture / digitize film negatives, slides.
My version of an instant film scanner: UPA head with a frame and frosted glass - a lens from Viliya 2 or 3 "Industar-69" 28 / 2,8 - a back ring with M39 thread from a "rangefinder" Industar-61 "- an adapter ring M39- М42 - adapter М42-ЕОС - Kenon 350D. The photo does not show the LED flashlight: this was the first option. There was not enough light, the exposure was more than a second, then I replaced the flashlight with my own built-in camera flash. To do this, I made a reflector from two mirrors for first graders. The work went more fun.

  • Vladimir

Hello! Is it possible to correct the illumination from the counterlight using a light filter?

    • Arkady Shapoval

You need to use a hood. A light filter can only worsen the situation.

  • Paul

I do not need to sharpen anything on the MFT, the usual adapter with Ali and unscrew one bolt plus set infinity ... put a dot for the diaphragm with paint and go !!!

  • Tatyana

Hello! I accidentally discovered the presence of Industar-69 parents in the house. Please tell me on the Canon 7D mark || do the adapters you specify fit? Need to use just two?

    • B. R. P.

And what, your camera mount is not the same as in other Canon? You can have one M39-Canon.

      • Tatyana

        Thank you very much!

  • Nicholas

As for me for my money, this is not a bad lens. Yes, the sharpness may not be super, but the picture interesting on MDF has a twist in the side worse than the gel and even remains on the f4 aperture (I attach an example photo). The fact that he catches rabbits I even liked it can be used as an artistic device. After reading the foregoing, I will assume that perhaps I came across an extremely successful copy because even 2.8 can be removed. Of the minuses with the usual Sony adapter, there is no infinity (but this is decided by the groove of the back of the lens) and probably not the most convenient aperture ring. By reworking .. both restrictive bolts have been removed. The current that was responsible for infinity restrictions was replaced by a shorter one. As a result, we have mdf about 15-20cm. Well, examples of photos so as not to be unfounded https://vk.com/album125655773_274415879

    • Leonid

I looked at the pictures, and my lens of the 70th year of release shoots in about the same way. There is no need to cut anything on the alteration. The focuser is removed in the infinity position, all three restrictive bolts are unscrewed, the lens block does not move, the focuser returns to infinity in the same position. Now the lens can be used with a working distance of 28,8 and if necessary on the Chaika camera.

  • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

I bought such a pancake for a penny, put it through an adapter from M39 to Nikon 1 J2. It is very easy to get infinity: 3 screws on the focus ring are unscrewed and it is removed from the lens unit. The lens block itself is screwed into the helicoid until it stops, but does not tighten. An adjusting ring with a thickness of 0,7-1 mm is inserted into the groove of the focus ring, with an outer diameter of 36 and an inner 32 mm., Without it, the ring is clamped and the helicoid does not turn, the minimum distance screw on the helicoid is unscrewed, set the focus ring on the lens unit to the position infinity, tighten the 3 locking screws. All! Due to the fact that we drowned the lens block, infinity appears, and the remote limiter allows the lens block to twist further along the thread and the minimum focusing distance is even less than 80 cm indicated on the lens.Another point was made on the aperture ring, the old mark did not match.

    • Leonid

The fact is that one revolution of the helicoid also gives those 1,3 mm, which is missing 28,8-27,5 = 1,3 mm. And this means that the scales must match.

  • Alex

Aftar catorically does not accept the difference between a full-frame system and a full-frame system! Expert from God! 🤣

    • Arkady Shapoval

  • Oleg

On Sonya b / s (3500 c3) can it be used as a regular lens?
I read something, read the topic, but did not understand.

    • Rodion

It is possible, but it is necessary to slightly reconfigure the helicoid in order to compensate for 1 mm of the flange distance.

  • Bald

Good day! Tell me, if I put it on Nikon V1 with 2.7 crop, will it be 28 × 2,7 = 75,6? Do I understand correctly?

    • Victor

So it will be, 28mm, in fact, the far end of the regular 11-27.

    • Specialist

That is, if you set FF 75,6mm on a full frame (FF), then the pictures in the viewing angle will be the same with 28mm on a 2,7 crop. Those. EGF lens for Nikon 1.

  • Oleg

    Hindu in the open.

  • chernomoretc_cn

I put the Industar-69 lens on the Nicon D3100 through an adapter from M39 to M42 and nothing happened. You can shoot from 5-10. I got to remove the focusing ring from the lens unit and screwed it in and out completely. The result is practically the same. Can someone tell me something?

    • Jury

answer at the beginning of this article, 3-4 paragraphs, after the first photo.

    • B. R. P.

The working distance of this Industar is 27,5 mm. Your camera has 46,5. Conclusion: you can fully use it only on the bzk.
