Review TAIR-3-FS 4,5 / 300 (black)

On Radozhiv I already wrote about the lens Tair-3-Phs 4.5 / 300, which differs from TAIR-3-FS 4,5 / 300 (presented in this review) only in case color, different years of production, and his name is written in Cyrillic.

This review can be considered just an addition to Tair-3-Phs 4.5 / 300 Examples of photos on a full-format camera:

Here link to the archive with the originals - 427 MB, 35 photos in .CR2 format (RAW) from the camera Canon EOS 5D. On a Canon camera, I used lens using interchangeable shank KP-A / N and adapter Nikon Canon.

You can also read the review and watch the video about the newer 'MC' version - MC TAIR-3S 4,5 / 300.

The remains of apples are beautifully photographed

    • Led

Apples, those that are called pears?)
The photos are cool, I’ve washed beautifully, I’ve looked closely for a long time, but I don’t dare. PS I can’t pick up a 250-300mm lens for shooting birds

      • Jury

Yes, pears :) I bought myself one, spent a little time to put it in order, put the adapter in a tripod socket, even tried chasing squirrels :) I had a Sigma 70-300, 300 mm and 5,6 gave a frank soap, this Tair is 4,5 sharper, and 5,6 is very good. The BB takes you into the green - it is easy to fix it in the editor, you quickly get used to focusing - it is convenient to work, sharpness is sufficient, the price is low (10 times cheaper than Sigma 70-300 DG OS HSM). Two results of the "hunt" in the photo :)

        • anonym

at what distance was the shot taken? from your hands or used a tripod?

          • Jury

these are two frames connected in Photoshop, made with hands, aperture of 5,6, a distance of about 4-6 meters.

            • anonym

very sharp shots ... you can cut yourself straight, I have owned a tair not so long ago, until I get into such a trick, especially from my hands. maybe there are some subtleties?

              • Jury

These pictures were taken on Fuji S5Pro, with this camera it is easier to focus, with manual lenses, than with Nikon D3200, for example. There are fewer misses with static objects. And out of 200 pictures of squirrels and birds, about 30-40 turned out to be sharp, successful - even less, if I process the picture in Photoshop, I sharpen it. That's all the subtleties :) This year I realized that it is better not to remove squirrels in March - they are very nimble this month. Most of the pictures were like this :)

        • Victor

amazing! forty such a colorful came out!

by the way now the moon is very close to the earth. With this lens you can take a good picture

    • Denis

Close or far the moon does not matter, the apparent size is almost the same, the difference is scanty.

      • anonym

If you look from Pluto, then yes, the difference is scanty. And I watched yesterday from the Earth) and I will say that it (the Moon) is huge.

        • Denis

          There is only one explanation:
The Moon’s illusion is a visual illusion that when the Moon is low above the horizon, it appears much larger than when it is high in the sky. In fact, the angular size of the Moon practically does not change with its height above the horizon (or rather, it changes slightly the other way around: it is slightly smaller near the horizon than at the zenith, since in this case the distance from the observer to the Moon is greater by the magnitude of the Earth's radius). Currently, there are several theories that explain this error of visual perception for various reasons.
Everything. Any approach / removal of the moon there in its orbit with the naked eye is invisible.

          • anonym

This is a trick of your eyes. We are talking about exactly the position of the Moon when it is “high in the sky.” According to NASA data, when the full Moon passes perigee, the Earth satellite looks 14% larger and 30% brighter than when passing the most distant point - apogee.

    • Arkady Shapoval

300mm, even on a crop, for the Moon - very, very weak, today I also shot this Tair on Nikon D80 - https://radojuva.com.ua/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/moon-fool-d80-tair.jpg

      • Jury

        ok moon turned out

      • Jackie

Here, perhaps, a hellish amount of megapixels would be useful for cropping, although this still will not replace the telescope :)

      • anonym

but can a link where the crop is even better?
        here on the whale http://fotki.yandex.ru/users/andr310/view/1041621

  • Maksim

I shot the moon on the D7000 and 70-210 4-5.6 in the winter from the window, it worked out very well, craters were clearly visible. I live in the suburbs.

  • Andrei

Arkady, many thanks for your work. About a year I have been a regular visitor to your site. It would be very interesting to know not only about technology, but also about you personally (like a biography, or something), about a beautiful model (who is ready to pose for the common good in frost and heat :)) and all who help you in hard work. Ps likes always put

  • Oleg

And I liked the views of Kiev !!! I haven’t been there for a long time !!!

  • Gene jb

Arkady, something you are all about technology, but about technology. Let's give a theory and practice!

    • Arkady Shapoval

In winter there will be a theory when there is nothing to shoot.

  • Andrei

    sharp. I like it.

  • Bunn

I'm curious ... Half of what I see at flea markets (including ebay) - with the diaphragm inside out, completely equally “stuck” petals. As I read somewhere on a foreign resource - some pathological factory assembly defect was on this model ... I took the same one myself, on the cheap because of the “faulty diaphragm” just. Disassembled, turned the petals, everything works.
Was there really such a problem in production? )

By the way, can you somehow make it “with overrun” of infinity? I tried to shoot the moon too, but it falls slightly short of full sharpness, only at the hole 11-16 more or less, and the landscapes are the same. I try 200 meters - everything is sharp.

    • Jury

Have you tried adjusting the ring around the front lens? It is fixed with three cogs and they can set infinity. Maybe it is tightly twisted.

      • Bunn

The limiter seems to have untwisted as much as possible.
It will be necessary to try on the street with a tripod in a liveview to check. Maybe there is already an overrun.

    • anonym

Most likely there was no marriage of any kind. It's just that modern outbids and “home-grown opticians” stick their hands where they shouldn't !!! some for the purpose of selling at a higher price, others for any purpose, they simply destroy the optics. I had Tair-3, everything is fine with everyone. It's all to blame for the fact that in our country it is generally accepted that all jacks of all trades and untwist and unscrew everything they see! Nobody even knows that it is strictly forbidden to climb into the optical unit! And then the amateur photographers wonder how the lenses have a wide spread in the quality of the pictures! And then tales appear about the poor quality of the optics assembly at that time ... Most of the reasons for the incorrect operation of the lenses are brainless home-grown "masters" climbing into the optics, mechanical damage and improper storage (fungi, mold, corrosion.).

      • Nicholas

I do not agree. At that time, amateur photographers, and not only, had methods of finding a good specimen, the quality really really walked right out of the box.

  • Peter

Arkady hello! Please tell me, do I understand correctly, in order to set the aperture, it is necessary to cock the aperture shutter, then set the value and pull the trigger under the lens, and you can take pictures ?! Lens Tair 3FS
    Thank you and good luck!

    • Max.

Peter, right. Yesterday I was tinkering with this feature myself, interesting! One of the first frames on this glass.

      • Peter

Thanks, but what about the carcass itself? Should I change the aperture value on it in accordance with the lens or set the minimum as on the adapter chip? I tried it this way and that, but it seems to me when the minimum value is in the camera and we change the aperture only on the lens, then the exposure metering is more accurate. I ask you not to kick much, I’m just starting to get into all this ...

  • Jury

The moon today at such tair

  • Pastor

Cool lens. Before the new year I got and managed to enjoy it. Most pleased with such aperture at such a focal. DOF is the thinnest. The sharpness is quite acceptable. The color rendition is so nice, Soviet :) The assembly is just like a tank, Pts are firm and reliable. Sometimes the diaphragm jumps up. I would like to somehow fix the descent, since I’m almost always shooting it in the open. For a closed one, you can use 70-300vr, there is both stab and autofocus, and now I use Tair purely for 4.5. Toad canon / Nikon three hundred is toad strangling, and there are few offers. So for the time being, from telefixes for 200 only this tair and ZM-5SA 500mm. And I must say, the latter pleases less.

    • Bunn

The picture in taira yes, very good.
But the assembly - *** but complete ... I have been using it since last winter, I tried it three times already - the diaphragm blades stupidly fall out of the grooves during operation! Between the fastening screw and the groove of the diaphragm opening ring, in which the screw serves as a limiter - the allowance is not less than three millimeters, and it all dangles freely!
The trigger is exactly the same. The same groove on the other side of the ring, only connected to the “trigger cocking” drive, is shorter than the outer groove on the frame by the same three or four millimeters. If you put it a little to the left, the mechanism will no longer snap into place when cocked. And before that it is necessary to do it with the "poke method". ) Horror. And to use this is already reluctant, and it is a pity to sell. (

      • Pastor

Thank God I haven't had such problems yet. In general, I would gladly get rid of the platoon device, I would simply set the aperture, without jumps. The sound of this living creature also scares ...

        • anonym

In the instructions for Tair - 3 FS, it is written how to reduce noise and shock when the diaphragm is triggered, you just need to hold the diaphragm ring with your finger while it is triggered. Not very convenient (This is not your usual Tair - 3, but Tair - 3 FS (!!!), Adapted for a special task with the use of a camera gun in the kit. After all, you saw your eyes, you bought it! :-) At the very same one. The usual Tair also wanted, but FS - 12 turned up, at a reasonable price in the factory set and with surprises and gifts. I had to take it :-) In general, of course, the actuation of the diaphragm closing does not thunder comfortably, just like the clang of the shutter on the AK - 47 ... I still think how you can use the handle with the shutter release remote control at home. There are different solutions on the internet. I have not yet chosen a specific solution for myself.

        • anonym

And I don't see any problems with the diaphragm. From the word - ALL! Everything works well, without any complaints. Maybe "crazy hands" kissed the insides of the lens. I noticed a long time ago that our people have an inadequate attitude towards optics! Highly ! In it, almost no one understands anything, but everyone climbs to twist and disassemble them! That's horrible ! Without knowing the basics of optical theory, home-grown "craftsmen" should not be allowed to approach optics for a cannon shot! After all, no one climbs into plasma TVs with a drill and does not twist anything there, everyone is waiting for a master. But nobody is afraid to climb into lenses! All - "experts" ... And then: "Even my lens is bad, probably the then" did not know how to do "and" the spread of quality "of the copies is large! “Yeah, shchaz! No need to climb inside the optics. This is how you take a zero lens that no one looked into, so they all work great in most cases! And as opened, so necessarily ditched. Do not climb into the lenses without knowledge. (Read at least one book on optics and repair. Well, or watch a short video, HOW the lenses are assembled CORRECTLY in factories and factories in the world! how parallelism is observed and the distances between optical circuits, how lenses, diaphragms and so on are assembled and blackened.) Do not climb into good lenses. If only the specimen is already a corpse and you can try to somehow fix it, or only in the helicoid, clean the old grease and apply the CORRECT GREASE, then current. But this is a case of despair. Do not climb into normal lenses. And then optically he will delight you.

          • Pastor

I agree that it is definitely not worth disassembling the lens unnecessarily, especially if you don't understand optical engineering. It's another matter if crazy hands want to know what is what - let them sort it out as much as they want. Only then it is a shame to see such lenses on sale. Well, since I got into the lens with an inept hand, well, use it further yourself or sell it for analysis. Why sell them at a normal price is a mystery.
I myself never go into optics, to saw and redo something is not for me.

            • anonym

Now there are a lot of lenses ditched by inept. Enjoy YouTube with the same would-be masters of iiii ... .. And that's it! Everything is lost. Optics killed and sold. (And a comment for everyone to see that the lens is bad, because even he, the miracle master could not do anything. And then instead of just buying the lens, you have to play the lottery and a lucky break, hoping not to run into a copy in which such inept.

            • anonym

I didn’t specifically tell you about disassembling the lenses, but in general, to everyone who does not think about the consequences.

          • Pastor

Speak everything correctly, I completely agree with you. If you do not know how - do not go.

  • Igor

I was going to write for a long time ... I gravitate towards telephoto cameras, but I could not imagine what 300 mm is on the crop. On the occasion, and acquired the entire sniper. The lens is creative and who doesn’t want a hassle just don’t take it so as not to write how terrible it is. You have to get used to it and look for what they can take off. Yes, it is to seek, not to shoot from the hip. And I'll tell you the fee for free 300mm !!! I will reduce and throw off a couple of pictures. All photos are without processing. In some places, and that's all.

  • Igor

    Sakura in Riga!

  • Igor

You can, of course, shoot with another lens, but I haven't taken it off 300s for half a year! I'm thinking about the 300AF-S. Aperture 4.0 is certainly gorgeous (this one has 4.5), but 5.6 is also enough to blur the background…. All the same 300mm !!!!!!!!

  • Igor

Maybe someone will ask what you can see in the distance ... You can see a lot !!!

  • Victor

judging by the photo, the lens is excellent! the flu is excellent, the colors are natural I don’t know how different from the real ones, but they look natural! great reviews thank you so much to the creator of the blog!

  • anonym

In 1998, while working in the editorial office of one of the provincial newspapers, he received an EOC 50 film camera and a Zapop 70-300 / 4-5,6 zoom. My joy knew no bounds, at last I had a Japanese (!!!) camera and lens in my hands. The baptism of fire took place on the set of Joseph Kobzon's concert, I quickly developed color films, and they looked great visually, but when I printed a photo of 30 by 40 size, my disappointment was indescribable - the vaunted Japanese lens turned out to be an order of magnitude worse in sharpness than the Soviet Tair-3 or Jupiter-37, which I didn’t put into a penny before! The only thing they won was in the purity of color and contrast. Here's a story.

    • Onotole

Afiget! And what is the moral?

  • Rodion

It’s just that Japanese optics could not stand such a spectacle as Kobzon’s concert

  • Serega D7000

Hello. Tell me, I have a Nikon D7000, I want to buy the first telephoto from second-hand, within 10k there are different Nikonov's 70-300, and not long ago Tair 3 appeared on sale in good condition, is it worth it to mess with it or is it too complicated? Photo quality? In price they are the same. I shoot only for my own pleasure)) thanks

    • Arkady Shapoval

      Do not be.

  • Vadik

Guys, is this an early model ??? It's not even funny. And what about Tair 3 with number 000462? Still cylindrical? Lenses - Ideally, the case is in excellent condition. With a native front cover. AND - ??? What is it ??? True connoisseurs of rarities - salivating ran.

  • Alexander

On the mic already 600mm are obtained)
Shot olympus om-d e-m1. The matrix stub did not turn off, but the shutter speed is already quite short when shooting the moon. Taken from the balcony in Minsk 22.07.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX
