Overview of the Yongnuo RF-603C II Radio Synchronizer

According provided by radio synchronizer Yongnuo RF-603C II huge thanks to Albert Murashevsky.

Yongnuo RF-603CII

Yongnuo RF-603 II - modernization of a well-known Chinese radio synchronizer Yongnuo RF-603. The model is available for both Canon cameras (designated RF-603C II, such as in this review), and for Nikon cameras (indicated by RF-603N II).

Yongnuo RF-603CII

Yongnuo RF-603CII

The main differences between the Yongnuo RF-603 II and the previous model are the locking nut, which locks the synchronizer at the installation site. The power button has moved to the side and now has three positions: OFF (off), TX (transmitter mode), TRX (receiver mode). Also, a pleasant innovation was that for a test operation, the transmitter does not need to be installed on the camera’s hot shoe.

Yongnuo RF-603CII

Yongnuo RF-603CII

Yongnuo RF-603 II can be used on any camera with a standard hot shoe. I worked with the Yongnuo RF-603C II on cameras: Canon 5D, Canon 350D, Nikon D80 и Nikon D700. When working with the first three, I set fire to the Nikon flash without any problems SB-900 with shutter speeds not shorter than 1/200 s. On the Nikon D700 can be shot at 1/250 s, 1/320 already appears black bars on the image. The previous model, Yongnuo RF-603N, which I visited in the review, did not allow shooting on Nikon D700 с shutter speed 1/250 sec., Therefore, the new model, in terms of shutter speeds, is slightly better.

We can say that the Yongnuo RF-603C II got rid of the main shortcomings of the previous version, only the channel switching was left in an inconvenient place - under the batteries.

  • serge

Will the fast sync mode work?

  • Alexander

    No quick sync

  • Eugene

    1. It is not clear about compatibility with the previous model.
    2. It is not clear what levers there are.
    3. Will the flash installed in the synchronizer shoe that is installed on the camera work in TTL, or, as before, only in M mode?

    • Arkady Shapoval

      1. There is no previous model at hand, I can’t check.
      2. All levers are described in the overview of the previous model. Behind the batteries are the channel switches.
      3. I don’t have a TTL flash for Canon, I can’t check it.

      • Eugene

I saw for sure a new lever - OFF / TX / TRX, that's interesting.

        • Eugene

Sorry, I saw a description of the lever.
Then there are actually two differences:
          1. It works without installing on the camera by pressing a button.
          2. There was a latch in the shoe.
Well, as a bonus - the inclusion lever has become more convenient ...
          Not much :(

    • Victor

on off. The site says that they do not support TTL in any way: https://yongnuo.co.ua/rf-603-ii-canon.html
      Below in a yellow frame.

    • Carl Zeiss

Compatible with previous models. With subsequent ones, it is also compatible. In P-TTL mode, puff installed in this synchronizer shoe on the camera will not work. In "M" mode will be.

  • M.A.G.

Eugene, let me try to answer some of your questions:
    1. Full compatibility with the previous model.
    2. Arkady completely answered you.
    3. As soon as I did not try in TTL through mode I did not find.

Now I will ask a question:
Friends, please tell me, this is such a problem: when the flash is in the shoe of the camera, the white balance works fine in TTL mode, but it is worth putting the flash in the synchronizer and working through the synchronizers, the white balance goes into blue. It’s clear that these are not TTL synchronizers and the flash output is set in manual mode, but I can’t understand what happens with the white balance, everything turns blue right away?
    Thank you.

    • Eugene

Just when working with this synchronizer, the camera measures the BB without taking into account the flash (simply because the camera does not know what the flash will be). So the correct BB is only manual. I have so.

    • Vladislav

M.A.G., you have both versions - I mean full compatibility of the old and new versions of synchronizers?

And that is, the first version, I want to take a second couple more ...

      • M.A.G.

Vladislav, yes I have both versions, they work with each other without problems, are fully compatible, you can safely take it.

        • Vladislav

Thank you very much, I will order :-)

          • Alexander

It is better to pay attention to the Pixel King Pro model, it is much more functional.

            • Vladislav

              And much more expensive.

I would say - even a different order of prices.

And, actually, what functionality can / should a simple synchronizer without TTL have?

              • Alexander

In the room then you can do without a radio synchronizer at all, but on the street on a sunny day this is essentially useless, then why is it needed? :)
If so, then normal. I took King Pro (for Nikon) and am very pleased with it.

              • Vladislav

“In a room without a radio synchronizer at all” but what do you suggest then - to beat with a built-in puff? - what for?

Yes, and at any concerts-matinees (and other public events), studio recordings will be triggered by every soap dish, and they somehow absolutely don’t care about TTL ...

        • Victor

Compatibility with previous generations of synchronizers will allow RF-603 II to use them as an addition without updating the system completely - that is, the second version can be used in conjunction with the first.

  • Slam

Hello. Tell me, will the Live View mode work when shooting with a flash? Convenient for manual lenses would be

    • Lynx

      Will

  • Alexey

I noticed with these synchronizers the unpleasant feature of not lighting canon 60d studio flashes with liveview. I have to try it on the on-camera (YN565EX), there is no time yet .... Maybe this is the case for me alone, but with a normal descent everything works fine.

  • Vladimir

Hello! Tell me the high-voltage flash it really supports (up to 300V)

    • Vladimir

And in response, silence…. thank you anyway :)

      • borisych

short pulse discharge (direct current) for igniting gas discharge lamps installed in flashes is from 250-500 volts !!

        • Vladimir

I understand this and have long known. A question of a different nature. Is it possible to trigger high-voltage flashes with this synchronizer? By the way, it has such a connector. I have an SF-8A light synchronizer, it supports all flashes from 3-300V, but its possibilities are limited, by distance and a number of factors.

          • Vladimir

Didn't wait for an answer! I figured it out myself! High voltage flashes work great with this device, even the old Soviet type "Luch-70"

            • Ildar

              Vladimir, hello!
How is your synchronizer doing after working with high-voltage flashes? How long did you work?

  • Maksim

Can these synchronizers be mounted on a tripod?

  • Alexander

Hello, please tell me, I have Nikon SB 700 and SB 400 flashes. Will the SB 700 flash be able to control the SB 400 flash with a receiver (http://strobist.ua/radiosinkhronizatory/radiosinkhronizator-phottix-aster-pt-v4-priemnik.html or http://strobist.ua/radiosinkhronizatory/priemnik-yongnuo-rf-603.html) Or maybe other devices are needed for this?

  • Vadim

Hello, tell me, I have synchronizers, sync cable, canon 700D, the remote shutter release of the camera stopped working, what could be the problem?

    • Arkady Shapoval

Perhaps it’s just that the contacts have gone somewhere, this often happens with cables.

    • Vladimir

The same problems. It happened to me when (as I believe) the synchronizer was connected to the camera when the camera was turned on. Apparently the synchronizer plug has jumped some kind of circuit in the camera. This is my conclusion. The conclusion is not comforting but to everyone's note.

  • Iskander

I have an old Soviet flash on these synchronizers, and not the Nikone D 7000 sits SB 910, they work simultaneously, it's cool ...

  • Jury

Does aging support outbreaks? "Electronics l5-01"

    • BB

If the voltage on the old flash on the synchrocontact is low, then it will work, but if the voltage on the syncrocontact is high, then there is a high probability that the synchronizer will burn out.

      • Jury

Naril info. ”Triggers can safely work with flashes with voltage on sync contacts up to 300V” Will it work under this condition?

        • BB

          If true, then you can.

I did not find such information, in the instructions (to 603 of the first version) not a word about the voltage on sikhrokontakte.

In general, I reworked old flashes for low voltage - it's safer, there is a diagram for 3-5 parts.

          • Jury

Another question. Will the Nikon flash work on the Kenon version of the synchronizer?

            • BB

Yes, they work for me (and vice versa, too, they should) - there are Nissin-Di866_ (for_Nikon) and Nikon_SB-900, both work in the 'Canon' (C-version) receiver.

      • Victor

No, don't burn - Yongnuo RF-603 and PT-04 http://infoto.com.ua/studio-equipment/radiotrigger/radiotrigger-pt-04 work well with high voltage flashes

  • Vladimir

I do not understand the text. Is it possible to synchronize the flash power remotely in M mode at least ??? Or just set fire to the flash?

  • Kuzma

    Good day.
Synchronizers 603 ii does not set fire to the all-in-one. Connection through to JACK 3,5mm JACK 2,5mm.
How the test works, but silence on the descent from the camera.
With the same settings, cameras 602 set the candy bar on fire. And 603 with on-camera flash work.
    what could be the problem?

    • BB

I understand that you include a sync cable in the jack-2,5 jack of the synchronizer?
If I am not mistaken, this slot is intended only for remote shutter release of the device.
To connect the flash, you need to use the PC-sinc socket located on the back of the synchronizer.

  • anonym

With this connection, the flash fires when I press the button, both from the receiver and from the one that is on the camera.
I don’t have a PC-sinc cable. And are there any other verification options before I find it (I didn’t find it on sale, ordering for a long time) And really, is it in it?

    • BB

When you plug something into the 2,5 socket, the syncronizer 'thinks' it is a camera. When you press the button on the sync-re (including on the remote one) - the sync-r makes the shutter 'release' (closes the contacts). But when you take a photo, another signal comes in and the synchronizer closes the PC-sinc jack.

There is probably no easy way to check without a PC-sinc cable. Well, as an option - in some way try to connect the 'hot shoe' of the synchronizer to the monoblock.

And also check the synchronizer itself, it must be in 'trx' mode (not 'tx')

  • Kuzma

You were right! I bought a wire. Everything is working!
By the way, I found Raylab - for only 60 rubles. And it was available in FOTO.RU :)

  • Vladimir

    Good afternoon.
I had a problem with these devices: from the button, the flash installed on the second transceiver is ignited, but the Nikon D5100 does not want to from the shutter of the device. I tried all the channels and switch positions. A flash dressed on the device works without problems.

  • anonym

Hello, tell me, will this synchronizer work with a Pentax ME Super film?

    • BB

      Yes, in 'Tx' mode

  • Nikita

I bought an rf-603 ii nikon, but I have a Canon camera. How to make the transmitter work?

    • BB

Answer to the line above: turn on the 'Tx' mode on the transmitter

  • anonym

Good day! Will this synchronizer be combined with a Canon 6D camera ???

    • Arkady Shapoval

Should. But on 6d I did not check.

  • Alexander

Is it possible to remotely control using any transmitter with multiple flash units with installed 603C ii? If so, which transmitter to use?

  • Alexey

    Arkady, good day
    Help please advice
I have a Nikon D700 and two SB 910 and YN560-II flash units. Moreover, YN works only as an external one on the stand (shoe defect), I can't use it on the camera. For a long time I have synchronized them using light traps. Indoors or outdoors in cloudy weather - no complaints. In the sun - sometimes they don't see the built-in flash pulses. I have been thinking about radio synchronization for a long time, but after your article I made the final decision.
But, the question is, how can I synchronize flashes taking into account a defect on YN. Is it possible through a cable? And which synchronizers are suitable? I did not find anything sensible on the forums. I would like to know your opinion as a professional in this matter

    • Michael

If yn has an input for a sync cable, then you can buy a cable with a shoe on one side and a tulip on the other - this will solve your problem, but there will be no TTL

    • BB

Or SB-910 from the radio synchronizer, and YN560-II in the light trap from SB-910 (if the flashes are close to each other)

  • Alexander

I have the Yongnuo RF-603 II Radio Synchronizer and the Yongnuo 560 III Flash, they already have built-in receivers, but the flash does not flash on the radio signal, neither in the test mode, nor from the camera, the signal lights are green and red. I tried different combinations of both groups and channels.

    • BB

I currently have RF-603, RF-603_II, RF-605, YN-560_TX_PRO, 560Li, (and I'm waiting for a couple more 560IV). When tuned to the same channel, everything will work.
In the 'Fn' flash settings there is a setting to work with RF602 or RF603, if set to 602, then it does not work with 603 (checked).

    • BB

... Well, on the flash you need to turn on the "Rx" mode

  • Irina

Hello. Please tell me. And on cameras Panasonic will set fire through a hot shoe? In particular on Panasonic gx-7. On Ali, sellers generally all answer in a different way. One answered yes, and 5 people said that only Canon and Nikon. But if she sets fire through the central contact of the shoe, then does she care?

  • Denis

Hello. Has anyone tried to make friends rf603 with yn622tx?
