Nikon D300s Review

Nikon D300s Review

On August 23, 2007, Nikon introduced a professional (that is how the company positioned it) cropped camera Nikon D300. At that time the camera was the dream of many photographers.

For its excellent performance and reliability, the camera was even called 'little D3' and other flattering epithets. IN Nikon D300 for the first time, among all Nikon cropped cameras, they started using RAW files with 14-bit color depth, appeared a large 3-inch display, automatic correction HA and new focusing system - Multi-CAM 3500DX... Two years later, on June 30, 2009, an updated model was presented - Nikon D300S. Models D300 and the D300S were very similar, so as not to repeat the review Nikon D300I will simply describe their differences:

Nikon D300S increased burst speed without using a battery pack. D300S can shoot at speed 7 fps, D300 could only shoot at 6 fps. Nikon D300s can accelerate and shoot at the fastest possible speed 8 fpsbut only when using JPEG format or 12-bit color depth in RAW format and only using the optional battery pack MB-D10 or network adapter EH-5a / EH-5. To make the camera shoot at a speed of 8 fps, one MB-D10 not enough. You need to use a special holder MS-D10 with 8 AA cells (batteries or rechargeable batteries). The MS-D10 holder is supplied with MB-D10. Also, 8 fps can be achieved using a more capacious battery. EN-EL4 (from cameras Nikon D2h, D2hs, D2x, D2xs) Or EN-EL4a (from cameras Nikon D3s, D3, D3x), but this requires the optional BL-3 cover (which is not included with the MB-D10). In addition, if you buy a battery EN-EL4 or EN-EL4a, you will have to additionally buy and charge Nikon MH-21 / Nikon MH-22 for it. If in MB-D10 use a regular standard battery EN-EL3e, then the burst speed will not change. Battery pack MB-D10 equally suitable for D300, D300S and D700... Personally, I don't like the fact that for these cameras you have to 'dance with a tambourine' to achieve the coveted 8 fps.

Added function 'Virtual horizon'when sighting via Live View. The same function was available for Nikon D3but was not copied to Nikon D300.

Added by movie function... True, the D300S only shoots with the maximum quality up to HD 1280X720 at 24 fps and the maximum video length is only 5 minutes. Also, the modes 640X424 and 320X216 are available at the same frame rate, while the shooting duration is increased to 20 minutes. Unlike predecessor models - Nikon D90 and D5000, the D300S has the ability to shoot movies using contrast focus. The D300S is the first Nikon CZK to have auto focus when shooting video (to focus, select Live View 'Tripod' mode and press the AF-ON button when recording video). Video recording is considered to be one of the main differences between the D300 and D300S. Also in the D300S you can find an audio input for using a stereo microphone, and speaker to output sound when watching a video. And in the menu there was a function for a very simple video editing.

Now you can shoot a video :)

At D300S removed the lock for opening the memory card compartment, which was in the D300. The memory card cover now opens just like on D700. Some buttons have changed. Appeared on the D300s 'LV' button To quickly switch to Live View mode, on the D300, this mode was selected on the control tower. Comfortable added 'Info' button, same as on D700, and with it a new interactive display (can display data on a black or white background, depending on the illumination). And most importantly, the central joystick button was made separate. On the D300, it was sometimes inconvenient to press the center button of the joystick. On the D300s, the center button is just as easy to use as on D700 и D90.

Appeared in a new camera quiet shooting mode 'Q' ('Quiet' - 'Quiet'), which is selected by the wheel on the control tower. In turn, the 'LV' mode disappeared from there, which is now activated by the 'LV' button near the joystick.

D300S now has the ability to use immediately 2 memory cards 2 different types SD (SDHC) and CF. The D300 only worked with one memory card type CF. Of course, various options for recording data on memory cards have been added.

  • It is possible to record pictures first on one card, and when it is filled - on another.
  • You can duplicate material onto two cards at once, which is sometimes an indispensable function for saving images in the event of failure of one of the cards.
  • It is possible to write RAW and JPEG files to different cards separately.
  • You can specify a card on which video files will be recorded.

Only one of the specified working methods is selected.

Added by face detection function on the footage, with the ability to instantly increase this part of the picture.

The function of determining faces. The picture is taken on the official website of Nikon.

The image quality has improved slightly, but such a dramatic change as when switching from Nikon D3 on Nikon D3s Did not happen. You can see the synthetic comparison here.

You can find information that cameras use a different matrix: IMX021 at D300 and IMX038 D300s (as well as D90 and D5000). But information varies from source to source. Based on the data from the instructions for cameras, we can conclude that the Nikon D300s has the same sensor as the Nikon D300 and differs from the sensors installed in Nikon D90 and Nikon D5000 (easy to determine by the total pixels / subpixels) But all the majority of sources agree that D300s are used IMX038.

The picture in the Live View mode on the Nikon D300 slowed down noticeably (a similar problem also exists Nikon D700) On D300s in Live View, the picture is displayed normally.

Nikon D300S uses HDMI Type 'C', D300 uses Type 'A'.

Added microphone input, as well as different HDMI ports

The menu is a little different, in addition, Nikon D300s can edit the shot material, including RAW files.

It is very strange that the D300S not cured of a serious illness, which was available in the D300. Both cameras become very slow when shooting with 14-bit color depth, while the maximum burst speed is a measly 2.5 fps. For instance, Nikon D3 from the same era, chewed 14-bit RAW at 9 fps without any problems. Yes and D700, which was released between the D300 and D300S, coped with this task without problems at a speed of 8 fps. By the way, a disease with brakes from processing 14-bit RAW files was transmitted Nikon D7100 (cannot accelerate to 7 fps, works at 6 fps) and Nikon D5300 (It cannot accelerate to 5 fps, it works at 4 fps).

My experience

For me, the only important innovations in the D300S are: the ability to work with 2 memory cards, a slight improvement in image quality and an adequate central joystick button. It may seem strange, but just one single button makes the D300S much more convenient to use. On the D300 and D200 I was constantly nervous about this stupid button that you press while pushing the entire joystick into the camera body, but as a result, I can’t push it (instead, one of the joystick directions is pressed).

Nikon D300S is still the best crop reportage camera. No offense, but all of these Nikon D7100 и D7200 They are located in the lower class, do not accelerate to 8 frames per second, have a meager buffer, do not have such a robust housing and professional controls like the Nikon D300S.

Attention quote! This text once came to my mail. Spelling and punctuation of the original are preserved.

“Good afternoon, Arkady. I own the BEST Nikon camera ever. And you still haven't reviewed this camera. In general, I think that you only needed to review her and EVERYTHING. The rest of Nikon's cameras aren't even worthy of public attention. There is only ONE best camera, the Nikon D300s the best camera for real alpha males! 7fps, best white balance, 2 CF + SD slots, super ergonomics, shooting video clips 720p, really working ISO3200, 51 AF points scattered from edge to edge of the frame (and not shot down in the center like D700, D600, D610, D7000) 100% viewfinder coverage (versus 97% for the Nikon D700) and by the way it is VERY different for the better from the D300, these are two different cameras, heaven and earth. It is even better than the full-frame Nikon D700 which, by the way, is DISPATCH white balance, OH I put it wrong, Nikon D700 has Yellow Balance instead of White))) In general, finally make a review of the BEST Nikon camera. I wish you creative success. And a good day."

D300S officially discontinued.

'B. at.-shnuyu'. Nikon D300S sells one and a half to two times more expensive than Nikon D300. Personally, I think that when choosing between the D300 and D300S, a photographer should think 10 times whether he should pay extra for video shooting and a few more small improvements.

thanks, but I don’t understand what the difference is)

  • anonym

Hello Arkady! I wanted to ask about the Nikon D300s in the issue of ISO 3200. Does it have a working or unreasonable noise ?????

    • Arkady Shapoval

He has this limit of the main range, of course, that nothing good will be there.

      • anonym

Thank you very much for the answer Arkady! Then the question remains somewhat open and I would like to hear a competent opinion if we take, for example, D7100 or D700 (crop or full is not important, optics are both full and interesting working ISO 3200) what would you recommend or not, what would you take for yourself where is 100% iso 3200 working ???

      • Igor

Arkady, good day! Maybe not on the topic, but in comments to the D300s. We have appeared on sale D500! The price is comparable to
D810! Body 2500 euros. Probably for a long time I will shoot on the D300s. Probably easier to take 750 ?!

        • Arkady Shapoval

D500 - professional crop, D750 - amateur full frame, difficult choice. Personally, I would take the D750 for this money, or a used one. D3s.

          • Igor

Yeah, that means D750! Thank you for your work and response!

          • Denis

Good evening, Arkady. This is my question. I have canon 5d + 50 1.8. I am offered to exchange for d300s with low mileage, for 5d I think it’s already big. Until 5d, I had d90. Is it worth it to change?

            • Jury

Denis, what do you expect from this exchange?

              • Denis

I don’t know, I’m not sure that the nickle will live long. I would like to know how in d300s with noise and picture quality. In the nickle, autofocus and manual installation of ISO are annoying.

            • Jury

The Canon 5D is almost twice as good in noise. Canon's picture is better too. Plus, the D300S is a crop and the 5D is a full frame. In my opinion, such a downgrade makes sense only if you have a lot of good Nikon optics.

  • andreymx

I bought a D300S camera, with low mileage and very inexpensive, 10t.UAH; the previous one - D80 - was 4 years old.
I'm studying. So far I like everything except:
For some reason, it seems to me that the D80's built-in flash was much more pleasant to shoot. It is clear that a built-in flash is given to such a device only just in case. But so far there is no money for external money ...

  • Valery

    Advice please.
    Did not buy.
I got the D5200. I do not like. No screwdriver etc. And just do not like it.
I want to change to D300s or D7000. The photo is not new.
For a photo of a family of goosebumps and flowers. Sometimes landscapes.
Usually they ask: * For what purposes? * - for the house.
Scientific calculation? Better subjectively, according to the principle - this one tastes better.

    • Jury

Each of them is good in its own way. The D300S is a professional, but already outdated camera with all the consequences - a metal body, very convenient professional controls, and so on. D7000 is a more modern and more compact device, but belongs to the advanced amateur. I would not say that this is a big omission - they are also quite convenient to manage, there is an alternative to the D300S banks, in general you will not lose much. I would take the D7000. And even better - D7100 - it has better skin tone.

  • anonym

Thanks for such wonderful and detailed reviews, Arkady!

I have such a dilemma between D7000 and D300s and my head is just spinning ...

I need to upgrade from the D5100 - already the limitation of the flash sync speed suffers from the lack of intra-camera focusing so that I can buy older optics. Plus such trifles as in-camera fine-tuning of focus, a larger buffer ... Yes, and a heavier fotik already wants a weighty one and not a plastic mask. I don't use any automatic modes at all, I'm used to shooting everything manually - I don't even use any priority.

I will buy D300s. If you don't like it, I'll change it to D7000. But I feel like it.

    • Yarkiya

With 5100 it is more logical to upgrade to 7100 or 7200, because this is at least a step to the new, and not a departure to the old.

    • Pastor

d7000 - the same matrix in a slightly better case, as for me, with a single device, the replacement is not God knows what. d300s is a cool professional, but the old matrix spoils the mood a lot. High ISOs are very noisy, and in autofocus the d300s has little advantage over fresh crops such as d7100. So I am also for the d7100 - an excellent device.
But about manually - a matter, of course, purely personal, but still I will insert my thoughts. Firstly, the priorities are inserted into the camera for a reason, but for the convenience and speed of shooting. Secondly, the ability to use the manual does you credit, but the inability to work in priority modes is not particularly useful. I suggest you watch the video of the professional photographers on YouTube - there most of the people shoot exactly in the aperture priority, sometimes shutter speed. Moreover, many even switch to P mode. And this is explained simply - why buy cameras with automation and not trust it? For many years this automation has been improving and at the moment it works perfectly even in very difficult conditions, what is the point of abandoning priority modes, turning a blind eye to the long-term progress in the photo industry? Personally, I prefer to shoot in aperture priority, occasionally shutter speed, and I only use M mode in the studio. Indeed, in priority modes there is exposure compensation, if it seems to you that the exposure is not the same, you can always turn the exposure compensation. Of course, the M mode is suitable for very unhurried shooting, it is also suitable for street, studio, portraits. But in faster genres, it noticeably loses in terms of speed to priority modes. In general, these are just my thoughts and observations, but maybe they will push you to trust the camera more, and direct your creative forces to composition, light and subsequent processing.

      • Arkady Shapoval

I confirm. I shoot very often in P, A, S modes, each is very, very, very convenient in its own way in their situations and tasks. M - too, very convenient and anyway needed in the same studio. The bike about what you need to shoot with manual settings is just a bike.

        • anonym

Thanks to everyone. To me at 7100 and so on, megapixels will only create inconvenience. I do not need them! I do not sprinkle, but immediately mount the frame as I need. And I print a maximum of A4. Why do I need to roll these megapixels? I'm not afraid of the old. The main functionality and usability. In the D300, I would definitely be tormented without a central button. I bought d300s. I wait, I can’t wait when it comes!

As for priority modes, I tried a couple of times, but it never worked out for me. Will be studying!

        • Michael

Arkady, how and in what situations is P mode convenient for you? Can you share your experience in the form of an article or update an existing one? A, S, M I always understood why and where to use. But in P I was shooting only drinking, actually using the “soap” functionality of the camera. In other situations, the regime seemed stupid, so your opinion on this matter is very interesting.

  • Daria

    Good day, Arkady
there was a need to go to a camera that can satisfy my desires to play with manuals. At the moment, on hand-D3100. Serves faithfully. Portraits, Marco and non-serious reporting beret.
There are two offers on the market - D200 (I like the picture, I don’t like the noise at high ISOs and voracity and I’m afraid of 10 megapixels) and D300 where I like almost everything, but the picture, they say, is not so interesting.
I do not want to consider 7100.
    I ask for advice.

  • Ollsee

Well, they are all handsome, they protect their equipment, well done guys love NIKON, and he loves you for it! All argue, And you think about what to shoot, paint will be. NIKON has thousands of lenses of which hundreds are simply exclusive, starting from the very first! So the question will support your camera with the lens you need? D300s… .Df will support even ancient Ai optics (even in A-mode and with a working exposure meter) among which there is something that has not been produced for twenty years, in the best sense about the plasticity of the picture. But the D7000, etc., slowly divide the picture into 16-24 Mpix, but only with modern optics, manuals only in M mode (alas) if this is the task. That's all the choice is yours. I will share: different lenses have come into my hands and there are unsurpassed, unique and relevant in digital and 12 and 10 and even 7 Mpx. There are no such people now, they are there, yesterday! Choose what you will draw on your matrix. It’s like an artist with a malbert and canvas slowly and beautifully (landscape painters, portraitists), or like a stenographer with one pencil, quickly, but the main thing is to be in time (reportage) or something in between. Good luck to you!

  • anonym

It seems that this review does not say about pussels?

  • Then

but all these Nikon D7100s and D7200s are lower in class, can’t accelerate to 8 frames per second, have a meager buffer, do not have such a robust housing and professional controls as the Nikon D300S.

Isn't the QUALITY of the image determining the class of the camera?
Why do I need speed and control if the photo quality is lower than that of new models.
Such reviews are stupid and misleading.
Survey on enthusiastic ohhah and emotions- And where is the objectivity.
It is better not to write reviews at all - than in an amateurish way.

    • Arkady Shapoval

In fact, the d7200 and d7100 are lower in class than the d300s. Management directly affects the responsiveness, which, in turn, directly affects the speed of making changes to settings to create high-quality images. To put it bluntly, while someone shoots 300 frames on the d20, 7200 frames will be shot on the d7100 / d10. With a general selection of photos, the quality may be beyond d300.

If you follow your criterion that only the quality of the picture determines the class of the camera, then the d3200 will be a class above the d300, because the d3200 camera creates pictures of better quality than the d300 (table proof). Moreover, the paragraph you specified is taken from the section "my experience", where I share my experience specifically :).

  • Eugene

Arkady Hello! I originally had the Nikon D90, which taught me a lot and the picture made me happy, but chased the Nikon d7100 hyperpixels and other buns of this camera, but it left me with a double impression. After the d90 35 1.8G began to turn into soap on the far distances, plus everywhere in the landscapes there is a dirty gray tint, which is very difficult to remove in graphic editors, even for short exposures and iso100, I bought myself a nikon 12-24 4G Japanese shirik in the hope that top-end optics will allow a 24 megapixel matrix (but no miracle happened , the picture pleases but the digital trash hasn’t gone anywhere), but the percentage of marriage is still large, and sometimes the light meter lives its own life in a younger brother (it wasn’t cleaned the oil and dirt matrix twice, although I use it carefully. Another picture of D7100 is flat, there isn’t the volume in the photographs that were on the D90. Paints are not that good either, although the table should be the opposite. I’m renting almost everything in M mode, will it not roll back if I buy a used one? D300 D300S? Or save money on the D610 (there will not be the same flat picture)? I shoot mostly nature, and sometimes people.

    • Dmitriy

      Hello.
      I sell Nikon D90 (5000 shutter clicks) and Nikon D300S (30000)
I understand that this does not apply to the review, but still ...
Why not offer great devices to the person who is really looking for this ?!

      • Edward

Dmitry, have you already sold it? How far do you live from Yekaterinburg? If not sold, write to me on soap: 3axap1973@gmail.com (all letters are Latin, the rest are numbers).
If one of the readers of this article sells the D90 and D300s from Yekaterinburg or nearby, I will also be glad to receive your letter with offers.

    • Alexander

I bought a sports Porsche. The engine was delivered good, proven over the years; - from the old "constipation". So Porsche is complete shit! “Constipation” on this engine ran a little faster…. On the other hand, the D7100 and 7200 let you know that the 35 1.8G is a pretty mediocre lens. Those who have studied the instructions and learned how to use the camera settings get such a high image quality that is simply not available for D90, D300s. The beauty of the D300s lies in the convenience of reporting. I caught a “mischief-maker” coming down the plane in the viewfinder, pressed the trigger and didn't let go until the memory card was full ... That's who exactly needs it. then the D300s are out of competition. True, after such rapid-fire bursts, the shutter will have to be changed in a week, but these are trifles.

  • Victor

Happy New Year everyone! Maybe someone came across such a problem: on the d300s (bought a rather shabby one for $ 200 a week ago), all the buttons on the left (ISO, white balance, quality) do not work. The owner claims that this is corrected in the menu, but it seems to me that he is just lying. I went through the entire menu 10 times - there is no such thing there. And yesterday I was horrified when I learned that the mileage was 300300 according to the program. What would you advise - to return it or should it be taken to the service (the purchase price is small)?

  • Victor

Denis, thanks for the answer! As the saying goes: “there are no free cakes”. Apparently, I will try to return.

  • Vladimir

    Help, tell me!
Out of 51 points, only one is visible. No tracking. I went through any settings for autofocus. But not all.
How to track an object? How to activate all the points in the viewfinder?

    • Michael

It is necessary to choose the tracking focus mode and 3d tracking mode, then the focus point will change when the object moves in the frame, if you had that in mind.

  • Strannik

Hello! Need advice from specialists. Previously, in principle, as I used to use the D80, I shoot mostly birds, and at -17-20s the 80th shutter brutally let me down and I slammed a lot of interesting shots. The question is between D90, D300s, D2x, although I tend to 300s

    • Ali

On the D90, the plastic breathes from heavy zooms. So much so that it is already scary that it will now fall apart. More than once, with a slight fall, the bayonet was broken out by friends. I have D300S and never let down at minus 35. While friends hid their cameras under their jackets, she dangled around my neck all day. The lenses failed - it was, the camera - no.

      • Strannik

Thank you took 300s, -17 works like AK47! no hints of jamming.

        • Ali

Congratulations! will work as well as AK47. Autofocus is very tenacious. Its only drawback (although this is not a drawback, but a technical given of this level of the camera and the time when it was produced), she does not like high ISOs. 400 iso is already making noise. But in my opinion, this is a technical given and not a drawback. Happy staff!

  • asndreymx

Tell me, how often do I need to clean the matrix from dust?

    • Michael

Depending on how much dust will get there. Once a year I get somewhere

      • andreymx

A friend installed cleaning every time you turn it on. But he constantly shuffles the lenses.

        • Michael

I also have it and I change the lenses. The question is not entirely clear. Do you want to evaluate the effectiveness of the cleaning system?

          • andreymx

I want to understand which is better. How often should I clean and what does it depend on?

            • Jury

if there is dirt on the matrix and it is visible in the images (you shoot with closed apertures) and it is already difficult to remove it in the editors, you need to clean the matrix. If you shoot with open apertures and the photo does not show dust on the matrix (even if it is there), you may not need to clean it. This is my amateur approach, and some of the pros may clean before every shoot.

            • Michael

What's better than what? You don't have to clean it at all. And there is nothing terrible in cleaning. Depends mainly on the frequency of changing lenses and whether they have a "vacuum cleaner effect". If the lens is one and the air does not drive, then you will hardly have to clean the matrix. Some cameras also have poor dust protection (for example 5D), the D300 has no such problems.

              • andreymx

                One lens, but vacuum cleaner - 18 * 200VR2
For a year, I have never changed (a year ago I bought a used carcass in good condition)
The lens works well, and the camera is now too - I go to the mountains 3-4 times a year

              • Michael

Well, you can navigate your carcass. A lot over the year or not. If there is a dust shake, then the results will be approximately the same.

            • Ali

The matrix should be cleaned only when you see spots in the pictures. You can check this: remove any light coating. Then in the editor set the "exposure" slider to minus and all dirty points will be immediately visible. I do not recommend cleaning yourself without experience in this matter. Make it worse. For three years of operation of the d300s, the matrix has never been cleaned. Since the periodic checks did not reveal any dirty spots. There were a few subtle points. Although I regularly changed lenses back and forth. Then I bought a second camera d600. With that one I drank grief. Due to a mirror defect, the entire matrix was constantly in terrible oil stains. If you have no complaints about the quality of the picture and there are no dirty dots in the photos, then you shouldn't go to the matrix. This is absolutely certain!

In my opinion, when you press the shutter button, the mirror first rises, then the shutter curtains are triggered to open and then in reverse order. How can a mirror sprinkle oil on the matrix if it (the matrix) is still closed by the curtains at the moment the mirror is raised? The shutter can be somehow suspected of matrix contamination; - but the direction of travel of the shutter slats is vertical and very unlikely. And what do you call a mirror “defect”? Didn't you come up with anything by chance? I have a D600 with over 15000 mileage and there is no oil on the matrix and never has been.

I took D300s with 35000k mileage - tested it in cold weather - super, so far happy! :)
I'll erase it on comments and dates - it seems like “recently” I bought a brand new D80, but right now I “updated” to an old D300s. :) looked at the new glasses ... woke up and seriously thought about changing jobs :)

Well, you are an adult, you must understand that this is a mistake. Of course not a mirror but a shutter. It was "changed" for me under warranty, it did not help. Then we changed the whole camera to a later model, where this problem was solved. Most likely your camera was of a later release, where this problem was resolved. I bought from the first batch. By the way, in the service I paid the masters $ 100 so that they would do everything for me as quickly as possible. Everything was formalized and two weeks later I was with a new camera, which was given to me in the service. If you are interested, then I can search and throw off photos of RAV, where everything is visible. I can even find correspondence with the official representative of Nikon. By the way, they advised me to do this. Change the shutter under warranty, if it does not help, then get a technical opinion from the service and change this camera to a new one.

Who will tell? What is the eyecup on the D300s? Which camera is it suitable for?

  • Alex

“The Nikon D300s can accelerate and shoot at the maximum possible speed of 8 fps, but only when using JPEG or 12-bit RAW and only using the optional MB-D10 battery pack or the EH-5a / EH- AC adapter. five. To make the camera shoot at 5 fps, the MB-D8 alone is not enough …… ”
Are there really such perverts that they will be so bothered by the extra frame per second? Rave!

    • Pastor

There are a lot of them, judging by the ads on the network. Butblock is a useful thing for reporters in principle, and given that the d300 has been a topcrop for many years in a row, a lot of photographers bought it for the sake of reporting, where an extra shot in a series can be decisive. Shooting a quick report on d7000 and 7d, the difference is felt. And more moments are caught, even if there is a difference of 2 frames per second.

Buenos dias Photo connoisseurs! Yes, there are I am an ordinary amateur, one might say a beginner (three years since I got sick). I shoot purely for myself. Just really like it. I have long wanted to do it, but somehow it didn't work out. And it’s not cheap. Well, okay, this is all nonsense - to the main point. At the moment I have - nikon D5300 (I started with it), nikon D7200 and canon 6D. Well, there are more or less objectors to them. I like to shoot both on the D7200 and on the 6D, although one crop and the other are full and in addition different systems, but otherwise, who am I telling? In short, closer to the "body". After reading about D300s on this site (and on others), I began to look for this miracle (this is a disease and my wife says that I am sick). In general, two weeks ago I became the owner (you will not believe it, but it is) NEW - yes, yes, new D300s. True, for such a price, one could have bought the D500. But that's still to come (if there are such reviews about the D500).
Yes, everything that is written about him (D300s) is true. This is not a camera - this is a machine gun, and the BB is just a fairy tale. And with the battery pack, it's just a bomb. And let many say that this is the last century, that this is a crop (but I already said, I have FF), etc., but D300s is a legend and I have it !!!!!!! And how he sits in his hand! In general, I'm happy as an elephant. In the summer (what I am writing, we have summer all year round, (yes, I live in Spain, Alicante)) we will go to San Sebastian in the north of Spain to the Atlantic, that's where I'll check it out. That's where it is. And many thanks to Arkady! (And D300s are true for alpha males).

      I don’t see a single advantage over the D300s over the D500

  • Alex

The D500 is good, no questions asked, 153 points is something, and otherwise it is at a height of 10 frames at 14 bits. RAW. But let him drive a little, and then we'll see, read. Although, to be honest, by and large, I already laid my eyes on him too. (It’s probably a disease when I bought 6D that I told myself, well, that’s all! It didn’t work). Now if Arkady tested it (D500)?

    • anonym

Better take a full frame. The same D750 or better D810. And if you like to report - D4. The D500 has only one significant advantage over full frame - weight and cost in conjunction with a long telephoto lens.

      • Alex

Maybe you are right. But, firstly: it is necessary to change lenses, I have everything DX. Secondly, I probably haven’t “grown up” to FF (shooting on 6D in combination 24-70 and on D7200 16-80, I don’t see much difference. In short, I’m still a “kettle”). And thirdly, these are costs. (I buy in secret from my wife). And D4 is still in the price. The only place for the 6D was to take the 750D. There was no one to tell. Well, okay God let it be. You'd better tell me about this. I want to take myself 70-200. Tamron, sigma or all the same nikon ??? Tamron and sigma, I found 800-850 euros here, nikon 1800-1900. Reviews read a lot of darkness. Praised by all three. Is there any point in overpaying?

  • Alex

I would also like to add. I didn't talk about any advantages of the D300s over the D500. I can only say that finding a new D300s is difficult and expensive. And five hundred - "I don't want to take it."

  • Andrei

I have 300S already for 4 years, with it, as they say, Crimea and Rym) A very worthy thing, of the minuses I’ll note a mosaic on high ISOs, and sometimes I don’t like the image. I don’t understand what it depends on, once I reset all the settings and again into battle and the picture is good again. Of course, she has a lot of pluses and speed, tenacity af it is certainly something with something, she never missed. There were D40, D60, D90, D300, D3100 all of them are not suitable for tenacity, by the way, I used the same lenses and it is possible to compare more or less honestly. But nevertheless, probably for me this camera has its control and ergonomics, nothing is so pleasant in the hand than the 300S. And about the handling, so when shooting nightly on other models, I somehow arranged a night walk in Yaroslavl until you find the right setting already and forget what I wanted to take a picture of. So I think the control at hand on the panel with quick settings in such a thing as a photo is sooooooo necessary thing, because the main thing is to quickly make a high-quality frame in a short period of time, and not dig into the settings. Of course, I want something newer, but the financial question leaves much to be desired or to change work. I understand that the new matrix and so on, the old woman of course loses to her since she is 9 years old! But much can be forgiven for its ergonomics and speed. Yes, and I do not print posters, but for my own needs, my wife, for example, has enough D40, and photos despite his belonging to the dinosaurs by modern standards, he is sooo good. So, of course, each of the photographers should choose to buy, but the 300S is a very decent camera for an affordable price.

Will there be a review on the d500?

  • R'RёS,R ° F "RёR№

    I have a Nikon D7100
What are the criteria for judging which camera is better or worse? You can compare by price, by rate of fire, by the strength of the hull, etc. But it seems to me that you still need to compare the image quality. What are we rushing about with firing rate? Well, think less per frame. Or cast housing and so on. What do we hammer nails in the hull?
