Nikon D300s Review

On August 23, 2007, Nikon introduced a professional (that is how the company positioned it) cropped camera Nikon D300. At that time the camera was the dream of many photographers.

For its excellent performance and reliability, the camera was even called 'little D3' and other flattering epithets. IN Nikon D300 for the first time, among all Nikon cropped cameras, they started using RAW files with 14-bit color depth, appeared a large 3-inch display, automatic correction HA and new focusing system - Multi-CAM 3500DX... Two years later, on June 30, 2009, an updated model was presented - Nikon D300S. Models D300 and the D300S were very similar, so as not to repeat the review Nikon D300I will simply describe their differences:

Nikon D300S increased burst speed without using a battery pack. D300S can shoot at speed 7 fps, D300 could only shoot at 6 fps. Nikon D300s can accelerate and shoot at the fastest possible speed 8 fpsbut only when using JPEG format or 12-bit color depth in RAW format and only using the optional battery pack MB-D10 or network adapter EH-5a / EH-5. To make the camera shoot at a speed of 8 fps, one MB-D10 not enough. You need to use a special holder MS-D10 with 8 AA cells (batteries or rechargeable batteries). The MS-D10 holder is supplied with MB-D10. Also, 8 fps can be achieved using a more capacious battery. EN-EL4 (from cameras Nikon D2h, D2hs, D2x, D2xs) Or EN-EL4a (from cameras Nikon D3s, D3, D3x), but this requires the optional BL-3 cover (which is not included with the MB-D10). In addition, if you buy a battery EN-EL4 or EN-EL4a, you will have to additionally buy and charge Nikon MH-21 / Nikon MH-22 for it. If in MB-D10 use a regular standard battery EN-EL3e, then the burst speed will not change. Battery pack MB-D10 equally suitable for D300, D300S and D700... Personally, I don't like the fact that for these cameras you have to 'dance with a tambourine' to achieve the coveted 8 fps.

Added function 'Virtual horizon'when sighting via Live View. The same function was available for Nikon D3but was not copied to Nikon D300.

Added by movie function... True, the D300S only shoots with the maximum quality up to HD 1280X720 at 24 fps and the maximum video length is only 5 minutes. Also, the modes 640X424 and 320X216 are available at the same frame rate, while the shooting duration is increased to 20 minutes. Unlike predecessor models - Nikon D90 and D5000, the D300S has the ability to shoot movies using contrast focus. The D300S is the first Nikon CZK to have auto focus when shooting video (to focus, select Live View 'Tripod' mode and press the AF-ON button when recording video). Video recording is considered to be one of the main differences between the D300 and D300S. Also in the D300S you can find an audio input for using a stereo microphone, and speaker to output sound when watching a video. And in the menu there was a function for a very simple video editing.

Now you can shoot a video :)

At D300S removed the lock for opening the memory card compartment, which was in the D300. The memory card cover now opens just like on D700. Some buttons have changed. Appeared on the D300s 'LV' button To quickly switch to Live View mode, on the D300, this mode was selected on the control tower. Comfortable added 'Info' button, same as on D700, and with it a new interactive display (can display data on a black or white background, depending on the illumination). And most importantly, the central joystick button was made separate. On the D300, it was sometimes inconvenient to press the center button of the joystick. On the D300s, the center button is just as easy to use as on D700 и D90.

Appeared in a new camera quiet shooting mode 'Q' ('Quiet' - 'Quiet'), which is selected by the wheel on the control tower. In turn, the 'LV' mode disappeared from there, which is now activated by the 'LV' button near the joystick.

D300S now has the ability to use immediately 2 memory cards 2 different types SD (SDHC) and CF. The D300 only worked with one memory card type CF. Of course, various options for recording data on memory cards have been added.

  • It is possible to record pictures first on one card, and when it is filled - on another.
  • You can duplicate material onto two cards at once, which is sometimes an indispensable function for saving images in the event of failure of one of the cards.
  • It is possible to write RAW and JPEG files to different cards separately.
  • You can specify a card on which video files will be recorded.

Only one of the specified working methods is selected.

Added by face detection function on the footage, with the ability to instantly increase this part of the picture.

The function of determining faces. The picture is taken on the official website of Nikon.

The image quality has improved slightly, but such a dramatic change as when switching from Nikon D3 on Nikon D3s Did not happen. You can see the synthetic comparison here.

You can find information that cameras use a different matrix: IMX021 at D300 and IMX038 D300s (as well as D90 and D5000). But information varies from source to source. Based on the data from the instructions for cameras, we can conclude that the Nikon D300s has the same sensor as the Nikon D300 and differs from the sensors installed in Nikon D90 and Nikon D5000 (easy to determine by the total pixels / subpixels) But all the majority of sources agree that D300s are used IMX038.

The picture in the Live View mode on the Nikon D300 slowed down noticeably (a similar problem also exists Nikon D700) On D300s in Live View, the picture is displayed normally.

Nikon D300S uses HDMI Type 'C', D300 uses Type 'A'.

Added microphone input, as well as different HDMI ports

The menu is a little different, in addition, Nikon D300s can edit the shot material, including RAW files.

It is very strange that the D300S not cured of a serious illness, which was available in the D300. Both cameras become very slow when shooting with 14-bit color depth, while the maximum burst speed is a measly 2.5 fps. For instance, Nikon D3 from the same era, chewed 14-bit RAW at 9 fps without any problems. Yes and D700, which was released between the D300 and D300S, coped with this task without problems at a speed of 8 fps. By the way, a disease with brakes from processing 14-bit RAW files was transmitted Nikon D7100 (cannot accelerate to 7 fps, works at 6 fps) and Nikon D5300 (It cannot accelerate to 5 fps, it works at 4 fps).

Here link to the archive with the originals - 1.07 GB, 44 .NEF photos (RAW) Shot on Nikon ED AF Nikkor 80-200mm 1: 2.8D (MKII),

My experience

For me, the only important innovations in the D300S are: the ability to work with 2 memory cards, a slight improvement in image quality and an adequate central joystick button. It may seem strange, but just one single button makes the D300S much more convenient to use. On the D300 and D200 I was constantly nervous about this stupid button that you press while pushing the entire joystick into the camera body, but as a result, I can’t push it (instead, one of the joystick directions is pressed).

Nikon D300S is still the best crop reportage camera. No offense, but all of these Nikon D7100 и D7200 They are located in the lower class, do not accelerate to 8 frames per second, have a meager buffer, do not have such a robust housing and professional controls like the Nikon D300S.

Attention quote! This text once came to my mail. Spelling and punctuation of the original are preserved.

“Good afternoon, Arkady. I own the BEST Nikon camera ever. And you still haven't reviewed this camera. In general, I think that you only needed to review her and EVERYTHING. The rest of Nikon's cameras aren't even worthy of public attention. There is only ONE best camera, the Nikon D300s the best camera for real alpha males! 7fps, best white balance, 2 CF + SD slots, super ergonomics, shooting video clips 720p, really working ISO3200, 51 AF points scattered from edge to edge of the frame (and not shot down in the center like D700, D600, D610, D7000) 100% viewfinder coverage (versus 97% for the Nikon D700) and by the way it is VERY different for the better from the D300, these are two different cameras, heaven and earth. It is even better than the full-frame Nikon D700 which, by the way, is DISPATCH white balance, OH I put it wrong, Nikon D700 has Yellow Balance instead of White))) In general, finally make a review of the BEST Nikon camera. I wish you creative success. And a good day."

D300S officially discontinued.

'B. at.-shnuyu'. Nikon D300S sells one and a half to two times more expensive than Nikon D300. Personally, I think that when choosing between the D300 and D300S, a photographer should think 10 times whether he should pay extra for video shooting and a few more small improvements.

I use canon myself, and therefore I heard about this camera only by hearsay. This camera is analogous to the Canon seven. The only drawback of these two cameras is just cropped matrices, but with full-format matrices it will be a completely different story, in the case of Canon it will be 5D mark III, and in the case of Nikon it will probably be D800.

    • Dmitry K

Nope, in the case of Nikon it will be d700 and in the case of Canon I don’t even know .. in the second mark there’s no autofocus compared to the seven, and in the third five-dollar coin there’s no sea that the seven will not reach. In short, they said correctly, these are the dead-end branches of the development of camera building

  • Vladimir

Oh Gods! I bought d300s about 3 years ago, and the reviewer, from joyfulness, just now he =))) Nice damn it! And I was just thinking about buying a d800 ... maybe we also change our minds =)

  • Vladimir

By the way, the quality of the laid out photos leaves much to be desired (chromatic, lack of micro-contrast), I have the same results Sigma 55-200 f4-5.6 (at a price of 4 thousand rubles for which I got it in zero state) too much confirmation to me that bothering with lenses absolutely not worth it. In general, there is a Tamron 28-75 f2.8 macro, which is rather old and soapy, well, as it is now customary to call “softit”. And also Tokina 11-16 2.8? which, as for me, is the most affirmative for the d300s as a landscape shirik, it's a pity I'm not a master of landscape affairs, well, I don't see them and that's it (And finally, the Sigma 30mm f1.4 stands as a staff, there are files with focusing, but this rather because I am a big fan on a completely open hole to catch something moving, like this https://vk.com/photo455406_304340356

Good luck to everyone in your endeavors! And purely on your own, often as you look at the lovers who purchase a top mirror with top glasses, after the cheap segments that were in their use. Their quality improves without a doubt, but the soul disappears from the photos and the photos turn into standard plastic magazine art.

Urrraaaaa! Finally, Arkady responded to MY LETTER and reviewed the Nikon D300s. Thank you Arkady for this review. I see in the comments a lot of like-minded people who, like me, have a “cast-iron” D300s with brutal autofocus) I'm glad that you Arkady also checked out this BEST crop camera, and told everyone “they say no offense guys, but this is any BEST crop and not equate it with plasmasks like D7000 and D7100 and the like. ”I myself had a D7100 and I sold it, because of the ATSTSky autofocus, and NANO buffer, and plastic. Still, whatever one may say, if you are an alpha male, then you should have a CAST IRON and only a CAST IRON camera, with cast iron lenses like Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8D MK3, which I bought by the way 2 months ago thanks to your own reviews of Arkady. And for this, thank you again! And after I bought 80-200 I realized that thanks to cast iron my bayonet did not vomit))) but if I was AMATEUR D7100, I think it would tear off a part of the camera with all the plastics to hell. I myself have now settled on a bunch of Nikon D300s (for photography) + Nikon D5100 (purely for video clips) + Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8D + Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 OS HSM EX + Nikkor 50mm f1.4G + Nikon SB910 (for I sold SB700 because all “professionals” should have SB910) And such a set pleases me so far. Although, of course, there are plans to buy some more full-frame BODY for “kosher BKE”.

  • Serzh

Good afternoon. tell me which camera is better to take D7000 or D300s
    Priority: weddings, nature and portraits

    • Alexander Trekhsotkovich

Of course D300s !!! And if you want problems with autofocus and amateur control via the menu, then of course the D7000 or D7100. PS Selling D300s in perfect condition, gum normal. Mileage 45. A box and all the pieces of paper with books in the kit. My email bouncedflash@hotmail.com I myself had a D7100 and used it for half a year, autofocus is terrible, and you poke a finger in the nose when you change ISO.

      • Alexander Old

Alexander Trekhsotkovich, in the D7100 ISO changes quickly with a wheel under the right hand, easily, without even taking your eyes off the eyepiece. Did not try?

        • Alexander Trekhsotkovich

I tried it. But this method is not always convenient. For example, in M mode, you have both wheels busy (one controls the aperture, and the other shutter speed) in this case, you still have to poke a finger in your nose. I will say more. I DO NOT hang any functions on the front and rear disks, that is, my front disk controls the shutter speed, and the rear aperture is all. It’s so easy for me.

  • Vasilii

camera - Nikon's analogue of Semyon. In my opinion, Semyon will be better from the point of view of the picture. Both have very good focus. Of course, this camera is much better than the shameful d7000 and d7100 (one has a problem with autofocus, the other has a 24-megapixel ugliness). But the question is which is better to take d300s or d610. The best crop in the world or not the best full frame. That is the question…

    • anonym

Of the D300s and D610, I personally would have taken the D610 at the moment, since the D300s can no longer be found. The D610 is a good camera, I see only one problem on it (changing your ISO you poke your finger in the nose) otherwise it’s an excellent full frame for all occasions, and the D610 is better than the slop D700 which has problems with the yellow balance), you can click on the wedding with the D610 and you won’t be lost in the studio. Of course, 39 focus points is not so cool for reporting, but considering that the D700 has a 51 focus point that covers the same frame field as the 39 points in the D610, then I consider the D610 to be the best inexpensive Full frame to this day. In general, if you want the best and not expensive FF, then definitely D610, and if you have the best KROP then D300s (which remained the best KROP despite the D7000 and D7100s released, the last one was in my use for about half a year, after which I sold it because autofocus and again moved to D300s)

  • Alexander Old

I am looking to buy Nikon D300s as a second camera. There was a D200, but her daughter took it away. Now the question is of this order; - How much better is the quality of the footage with the D300s? Currently I am shooting Nikon D7100 with what they call “terrible” autofocus. Strange, but in my 500 photos I have NOT a SINGLE miss even on a restless child in the yard. I am very surprised that the D7100 has a “defective” autofocus. In my opinion it has one of the BEST Crop AFs, if not the best. Out of interest, I installed a manual Jupiter 37 on the carcass, manually set the aperture to F8 and tried to focus in a darkened room. WORKS!!!! the center point is true, but focus confirmation works and is quite stable. Now about the D300s regarding the quality of the original picture. I downloaded the folder with RAWs and looked at it. Question to Arkady; - on some photos the intra-chamber noise reduction is turned on ??? Where did the “plasticine” spots on the face of the girl in frame 6104 come from, as well as the guy in 6359, 6441, 6612 ??? If this is the work of a noise driver, can you turn it off and how will the source materials look later? Is the contrast high? Sharpened in camera settings? I am taken with doubts of all kinds. Yes, the D300s camera is made of cast iron, but I want a picture ....! Link https://yadi.sk/d/FTVhQe2pVWpib Here is a folder with RAW files shot by my D7100, there are 2 more files in TIFF format with noise reduction in Photoshop and 3 files shot on D300s. Will the D300s have a better picture?

    • Alexander Trekhsotkovich

Alexander Stary, here you are writing that the D7100 has AF Terrible autofocus and that you shot it at children. The fact is that I also took pictures of children and passing motorcyclists, and there were no problems with this. But since you are protecting the D7100 autofocus so vehemently, you should have tested it under ALL conditions, including in dark conditions (or at least in a photo studio where only pilot light flashes) and here you will refuse to PRAISE D7100 autofocus unless of course you are not a secret agent of the marketing department of D7100) I’ll even say more, I liked the D7100 camera, but since it has 24 megapixels, as a result it is for landscape and studio. And if for the studio, then what she refuses IN HER to focus on the segment and instead julit back and forth? And junk like D300s confidently focuses in the most monstrous conditions of darkness, and even though I turn off the autofocus backlight on ALL my cameras and flashes ONCE AND FOREVER. And the D7100, even with autofocus lighting, CANNOT focus in the studio quickly and accurately.

      • Alexander Old

Alexander Trekhsotkovich, there are times when the users of the camera speak very badly about him. And the reason is a plot like “… I live in the wilderness, there is no money for the bus, and the plug at the charger has fallen off and a kick-ass…. we can't take a picture !!! Rubbish !!! Nikon threw up! ” I do not need to “fiercely” defend the D7100 - those who know how to work with it have long appreciated all its qualities. We can assume that you have come across a device with a marriage, but here the problems are only yours. At the moment I have no opportunity to compare D300s and D7100 in the same conditions, with the same lens, but as soon as…. I will unsubscribe about this. On my D7100 through an adapter I use lenses Kaleinar 3B, Jupiter 36B, 70-200, 17-50 ... and it is heavier, - nothing is broken, a durable case. There is little light in the studio ???? Do you have incandescent modeling light on flashes in your studio? There are no miracles. What is the reason for your failures with the D7100 - you are looking for it. I don't even know what to advise; - maybe… but didn’t try to remove the lens cap ??? As for the picture, the D300s is inferior to the D7100 in ALL parameters. Plus, only the buffer, "rate of fire" and ... all perhaps. No! Still heavy, "cast iron" like that. Sell your pet! With mileage ... How can you live without it - will you? Finger in the nose all the time?

        • Alexander Trekhsotkovich

Okay Alexander. Let's not litter Arkady's page. But I understand your train of thought. I also realized that you are an extremely arrogant person (something like “I AM THE BEST PHOTOGRAPHER IN THE WORLD”) I don’t pretend to be such a title, but I would not write here UNJUSTIFIED either. Having bought a D7100 for myself before I had to shoot in the studio, I was fascinated by the D7100 and advised my brother to buy the same D7100. And everything was fine until, due to my work, I had to shoot in the studio for 3 months. And then I rated the BEST autofocus in YOUR words (and on two D7100 cameras at once, and two cameras cannot be defective) You can prove with foam at the mouth that AMATEUR D7100 is better than PROF D300s. But I will stick to my opinion. And no matter how they write on Nikon's website that the D7100 has autofocus similar to the D300s, I won't believe it. I had 2 of these cameras at the same time and I know which one is better. And according to your manner of conversation, I realized that you are probably very young and ambitious and think of yourself as a photography guru, and everyone else in your opinion is just newbies in this business (as you wrote "village") But although I am not a guru, I am ONLY engaged in photography already 3 years (and I earn her a living for my family) and worked with Nikon D300s, D7000, D7100, D90, D700, D5100, D3100 and I know what is what and what is better and what is worse. All of the listed carcasses were bought by me NEW in the store, after which DON'T LIKE were sold as used. As a result, I left for myself the D300s and D5100 (under the video) Note that I did not even leave myself the D700, praised by many, which has a hellish “Yellow Balance”, 1 slot for memory cards, a monstrous Life View, and 51 autofocus points in the coverage area are similar 39 points on D610.

        • Alexander Trekhsotkovich

You just reminded me of one girl I know of a nail photographer, that is, she mainly deals with nails, and photography is her additional occupation, so she is so arrogant that she believes that her photos are commensurate with the price of her equipment and EVERYTHING. She recently switched from D5100 to D700 and somehow when I met I noticed that she was shooting in P mode and after all that she also asked me “how do you blur the background in the photo ???” and she also said that she recently had a master class and at the end she was told to shoot in P mode, which she does to this day. So she recently put up for sale her D700 (full frame) camera with a Nikkor 35mm f1.8G DX lens, and wrote that she would not sell separately. This is how there are such gurus. And her manner of speaking is similar to yours. She also says that all other photographers are collective farmers) and that they do not understand anything about art.

          • Alexander Old

Alexander Trekhsotkovich! I really have an interest in the D300s. In the near future I plan to purchase. To me in the mail zaaa@yandex.ru write your opinion. Let's discuss. I received my first camera as a gift in 1968; - it was Sharp-4. Honestly, I didn't want to offend you. Write, I'll wait.

          • anonym

Alexander Trehsotkovich if you decided to promote yourself in this way, then you obviously did not succeed. Not only have they exposed themselves to ridicule with expressions like "alfasamets", but in addition to your "I" "ME" "ME" gave links to your sorry porn site. If you still take money for what you do with portraits, then it seems that people in Petropavlovsk do not know at all what photography and portrait retouching are.
In short, be modest, or else sit on the antediluvian crop, and ambition as from Hassel.

  • Alexander Old

Try to open RAW files in ViewNX2, not in “peepers”; - the quality will be significantly lost.

  • Elena

Dear Alexandra, I propose to conduct conversations in the style of Arkady: short, to the point and politely. Whether you, active users of advanced technology, do not know that d90, d700, d300s, d7000, d71000, d610, d800e, d810 are ALL GOOD in their own way! You write about different tasks (all the more, without taking into account lenses). The answer to your dispute is so obvious that no one even wants to waste time refuting or arguing your arguments. There are already a great many sites, blogs and portals that have multi-level forum levels where extensive discussions can be launched. This resource is different in that Arkady from the very beginning gave advice clearly, clearly and to the point. I propose not to discourage people from reading comments, but also to write only on the topic of the thread, briefly, reasonably and politely.

  • Alexey

I’m just polite and on topic. Who thinks about global warming, huh?

  • Alexey

In the overwhelming majority, the categorical statements, by which the lovers of the ego and the observation of the truth from an advantageous (ego) angle have already hammered the noosphere, by a knowledgeable and intelligent person (usually silent) are smashed to smithereens. Truth has many angles. Not everyone is capable of going through all of them and in general laziness, it is much easier to push the lower lip further forward. Let's learn more, not teach! Sometimes it's just funny. Doesn't apply to Arkady :). Here it would be appropriate to insert a fragment in the style of Chekhov, “A letter to a learned neighbor” :))))

  • Raised

Arkady here advises not to spend a lot of time choosing a carcass, I, of course, now understand this - my D7000 sn 6475743 was recently stolen. :( anyway I sit and choose. I look in the direction of the D300s. But, most likely here I am looking for a justification so as not to buy it. Now my option: fix 50 + carcass for delivery (most likely D5200 or D90). any budget travel zoom f / 2.8

    • Lynx

don’t take ninety .. then it’s better to really take either used 300s, or 5100/5200 if focusing and the presence of a screwdriver are not a priority. but significantly easier.

      • Raised

        thanks Lynx.
used 300s have never met in Samara. I took the D70s. more precisely, he got me into the load for the SB-800 flash. In general, a good apparatus. I shot the wedding, everyone is happy. Leave it for infrared shooting.

        • Lynx

In Samara on Avito now lies three hundred and zero for 28 thousand in Samara. By the way, in Samara there is a very tasty private photographic equipment store near the Leningrad. including with old optics, there are now 135 / 2,8 thousand for 4 lies.

  • Vadim

    not impressed.
Nikon d2x, I liked it more, especially in the back.)))
I’ll take it as a camera for the soul, I’ll put a manual lens type 85 1.4 or 105 2.0 with a defocus))

    • Lynx

Finding an inexpensive and unkilled d2x is extremely difficult in Russia. Besides winning in ergonomics, he loses in focus

  • Vitalij

Good day. I am a fixing photographer. Mayu Nikon d 5100. A few photo sessions and fun in the depths of life)) Now I want a mother for a few pennies. So please robiti - get lost on a new one, and go to D300s. Thinking about the D7000, but in terms of the quality of the pictures (through the processor and sensor), the stinks are 100% the same with the same adjustments.

  • Yana

Is it possible to find an unkill Nikon D300s now? I am inclined to believe that the amateur Nikon D7000 is better, also used, but you can find this camera with low mileage.

    • Igor_K

It is quite possible to find an unkilled D300S, I recently bought myself a "average kill" (75000 mileage) for 380 USD. for a small hand. Having shot on the D7000s, I came to the conclusion that there are practically no equals among cropped cameras in terms of ease of control and functionality, but the picture is not so simple. I ask you not to "throw sneakers at me", but personally I like the picture of D200 in the portrait more (at low ISO). The tonal transitions are softer, the skin is smoother, the matrix resolution is quite enough, so I personally changed my mind about selling my 300-ku, despite its gluttony, lack of fine adjustment of autofocus, a weak screen and other, by modern standards, shortcomings. Moreover, given the low prices on the market for used cameras, the D200, D200 and D200s models are the best purchases! (IMHO) I would like to hear the opinion of the respected author of this site and other participants on this issue.

But what to hear here - like d200 - shoot at d200.

    HELP ME!
I purchased D300s with low mileage (only 16500 for today's $ 350 US), but the device does not want to update its firmware (the old firmware was installed at the time of manufacture).
He sees the update file on Maps (tried both), but if you agree to the update, the OK button is not activated :)
Maybe someone has met this or What am I doing wrong So am I?

Congratulations to the Author and the blog participants on the New Year 2015!
I wish you happiness, love and health, success in everything!
And the most important thing -
    Peace to all!

And what version of firmware do you want to install? And what features does it update?

      • Azat_of_Ufa

        Firmware version A 1.02 B 1.02 dated May 20, 2013

And it is important that the device does not want to be updated, and not the essence of updating functions :-)

I don’t understand, it says here:
“… The D300S now has the ability to shoot video using contrast focus. The D300S is the first Nikon DSLR to have automatic focusing at all when shooting a video (to focus, select the Live View 'Tripod' mode and press the AF-ON button when recording a video) ”
and the review of Nikon D90 says:
"Videos without autofocus have two more cameras: Nikon D5000, Nikon D300s."

      Fixed

By the way, as for the Nikon D300, I’ll say one thing that is pleasant for the reporters: this camera has a very decent in-camera JPEG! Much better than the D90 and D7000 and lower modern models.
Compression algorithms are very careful, so the picture of intra-camera JPEG very correctly conveys colors, tones, contrast, sharpness. This is an important point for those photojournalists who, for several reasons, are unable to use more advanced models and shoot without fail in RAW.

Hello Arkady, thank you very much sincerely for your reviews. I recently got to know the camera as such :)), and on your site I found a lot for myself, I emphasize a lot of useful information. THANK!!!

  • Stas

We shoot with a friend, my GH3 and Leica 25 / 1.4 in poor lighting do better than its D300s with 35 / 1.4, and here you are about the focus :)

    Hello, Arkady.
There is a question. Tell me, please, which model is better to switch to after the D3100, on the D7000 or D300s? The number of megapixels does not matter to me.
For me, the main thing is the built-in focusing motor for AF lenses, the normal operation of Soviet optics, quick access to the main settings (metering mode, ISO, etc.)
For finance, I can only afford these models so far.
Thank you in advance for your reply.

    • Lynx

      It all depends on why?

      • Alexander

For further development in photo business. Yes, and with manual optics on the D3100 is not particularly convenient to shoot.

        • Lynx

this is, alas, too broad a definition. In this scenario, in general, any more sophisticated / new / expensive carcass will do.

          • Alexander

            Well, this is understandable =)
I can just purchase only one of these models.

            • Lynx

by no means, there are still at least half a dozen options, from the situation.

              • Alexander

I have only considered options from Nikon so far. Prices are attractive to AF lenses without a focus motor.

  • Dmitry K

from myself I will say that the 7000 makes less noise and the dynamic range is better for it. And the 300s have better autofocus and more convenient access to all parameters of the shopping mall, this is a type of professional carcass, but the noise is worse than 3100. I shot with cameras myself for several years. In short. if it is necessary to make it more convenient - then 300s, if the picture is better - 7000.

    • Alexander

      Thank you =)
