EBC Fujinon.Z 1: 4.5 / 75-150 Fuji Photo Film Co. Review Lens-japan

What lenses do not come for review at times. This time I had the opportunity to shoot with a rare EBC Fujinon.Z 1: 4.5 / 75-150 Fuji Photo Film Co. Lens-Japan, a lens made to last. Originally produced for film cameras with M42 thread, and now for all cameras that can be used with an adapter. ;) Has only 2x zoom and a constant maximum aperture of 1: 4.5.

There is a 'DM' version of the lens (with automatic aperture transmission) for use on Fujica-X cameras.

How to use with modern cameras?

Lenses with mounting thread M42 (M42 X 1 / 45.5), such as the lens from this review, are very easy to use on almost any modern digital camera (both SLR and mirrorless), for this it is enough to choose the right adapter (adapter). You do not need to carry out any additional steps to modify the lens.

The cheapest adapters can be found at Aliexpress.com... There are adapters (adapters) with a chip that provide more convenience during shooting, usually chips are used to confirm focus and / or metering exposure, and form the correct EXIF. The chip does not affect the image quality in any way.

For some SLR cameras (for example, with the Nikon F-mount), you need to use adapters with a corrective lens, which allows you to focus correctly at all focusing distances. For any mirrorless cameras, such a lens is not needed, and the adapter is a simple decorated hollow metal tube with an appropriate mount.

Fujinon-Z 4.5 / 75-150 has a special proprietary multi-coating lens'EBC'-' Electron Beam Coating '(Electron Beam Coating), thanks to which it creates a pleasant neutral color reproduction (as far as I can subjectively judge) and good resistance to light sources in the frame. Some Fuji lenses have modified HT-EBC or S-EBC coating. The 'Z' prefix in Fujinon-Z simply means that this is a 'Zoom' lens. There are rumors on the net that the 'EBC' enlightenment was one of the best in the 70s and 80s.

The focusing and zoom rings are rubberized. On the example from this review, the rubber on the zoom ring slips slightly over the metal base of the latter. Fujinon-Z 4.5 / 75-150 has a built-in telescopic metal hood that adheres well to the lens when extended. The diameter of the front filter is 62 mm.

The lens has a fully internal zoom - when you change the focal length, nothing moves. It is also excellent that when focusing and when changing the focal length, the rear lens remains stationary. But when focusing, the entire front of the lens spins and drives forward. The focus ring rotates 170 degrees, and the MDF is 1.8 m. There is a focus distance scale in meters and feet. It was not difficult for me to focus and shoot with this lens.

The aperture control ring is wider than usual. The diaphragm consists of only 6 blades and closes to F / 22. At F / 5.6, the petals form a hole with notches. The lens has a blinking mechanism aperture to work with appropriate cameras. The gallery presents pictures only at F / 4.5, but I can assure you that the lens is also good on covered apertures.

Fujinon-Z 4.5 / 75-150 is quite suitable for use on F / 4.5, the sharpness on the Canon 5D is more than enough. I liked, in some situations, a nice lens design.

Geometric aperture F / 4.5 is 27% less for the classic F / 4 value.

    Arkady thanks for the review.
The lens is slightly soft ... Or it just seems to me ...
But in general, I love the lenses of these focal lengths.
I have an OlympusOM 75-150 1: 4 like in a portrait, even on crop.

And it seems to me that a little yellow ... Or it just seems to me ...

Recently I have been looking at Fuji cameras - a very naturalistic color rendition, and in conjunction with their lenses - the picture is just lovely.

For all who do not give a damn about the Fujinon optics, I inform you.
    1. 'EBC'-enlightenment was one of the best in the 70-80s. And it remains now. It competes with the best from Zeiss. Very scratch resistant.
    2. The mechanics of the Fujinon lenses are capital, with the exception of the cheap X-series, for the photographers of the 80s.
    3. Optician-calculators in Fujinon were one of the best in Japan, as I do not know now.
    4. Materials and painting were the best of all lenses made in Japan, solvents do not take paint. The metal is not overdried.
    5. Top quality glass, no China before and now. Recently, they began to indulge in hybrid aspherics, however, fashion.
    6. Almost all of Fujinon's pro-optics are neutral and have a slight bias towards 'cold', a feature of the brand enlightenment of 'EBC', 'S-EBC' and 'HT-EBC'.
    7. Fujinon optics is the cleanest inside, in my entire life I have not seen a single divorce inside.

That's right, that’s why I once tested and then used their mid-format camera 645, folding, the sharpness and quality of the picture was simply amazing on the film. By the way, that's why Fuji was then trusted by European brands such as Hasselblad and Alpa to manufacture medium format lenses, and the company also produced amazing lenses for large format cameras. With the EBC prefix, all lenses will always show the highest image quality.

I have owned this lens for 5 years. When I bought it, I shot it on a crop, literally a little. I did not like him. Long stood on a shelf. And then I switched to full frame. I blew off 3 years of dust from it, let me think I will click all the lenses that are, in ff. Clicked and stunned! Color management as in modern sigma 50. 1.4. Generally not inferior in color rendering. The background blurs wholly. In short, I will now shoot portraits on him. Super lens !!
